Can someone help me translate the first 30 seconds of this song? His Owere dialect is very thick.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecYkNtHm-yQ&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3DecYkNtHm-yQ

What I think he said:
Onye ya na nwanne ya na n'uyo gbakwanuma ari nma ka onye no n'ama. Eji eshi uyo mara nma fuma gbo ari nma ke nde ezhi atugbola mu ujo. Something I couldn't decipher. Amaa onye wu nwanne gi ga so bema."

This is what I think it means:
When you're at home with your brother, act as you would act if you were outside in the presence of others. Because when I come out of a calm household, the trouble I see in others scares me. No one knows who is a brother (something about crying).

Antivirus92: can't u just see that it is a difference in dialect. Just difference of " d" and "z". Or do u want to magnify it as usual?

Who asked your input in this? I kpuru isi? Or could you not see that I did not realize that because I did not know what 'izo eze azo' meant?

Biko, dowe onu gi ndo. Ekuu gi nwa.

Eze Promoe:
It occurs in every language including English.
E.g 'show' means to lead or guide and a concert or airing of a Tv/radio programme.
Same with Igbo,
Izo - to save
Izo - to contest/battle for something.
This is where the suffixes matter.
Now you use
Izo (puta) - to save
Izo (ala/eze/ihe) azo - To battle for land/kingship/a thing unspecified (respectively)

Thank you for explaining the meaning. The reason I asked is because it doesn't exist in our lexicon in my part of ali Igbo.

In my dialect:

Ido (pusa) - to save.
Ido (ali/eze/ihe) - to dispute over something.

How many meanings does the term 'izo azo' have in northern dialects? I've heard it used in so many ways.

Ex:

Izo eze azo - to be crowned king?
Izo nmadu azo - to save someone.

Culture / Re: Can An African American Get An Igbo Title? by odumchi: 6:48pm On Sep 28, 2013
In The cultures of the Igbo, titles exist in many dimensions and are not [traditionally] awarded on the basis of wealth but of merit. This being said, you have yet to specify the type of title which you are talking about. Depending on where you are in Igboland, there are yam titles, Ozo titles, and other merit-based title-taking institutions. Although it is theoretically possible for you to [traditionally] acquire a title from a community, it would be very difficult since you are indeed an outsider [to that community]. By outsider I don't mean the fact that you're an African American; I mean outsider in the sense that you are not an indigene of that particular community, since most [traditional] titles are awarded to 'umuafo' (citizens) and in extremely rare cases (which I will soon elaborate); foreigners.

An Ozo title is awarded to individuals who exhibit exemplary character and are well-esteemed by all members of society. Traditionally, these titles are taken very seriously and are not given out lightly. For an individual to be awarded an Ozo title, his history and that of his family would have to be scrutinized extensively in order to make sure that he is indeed fit for the title. That being said, it would be impossible for you to acquire an Ozo title.

Another type of title that exists is Ichie. Like Ozo, the Ichie title is only awarded to men of pristine character who are advanced in age. Being made an Ichie would make you responsible for certain social functions in a community which you, as a foreign-based African American, cannot fulfill.

That being said, the answer is "no". You, in your current form, can't get a real traditional Igbo title. The only way you could get a traditional title would be if you relocated to a community lived there for an extensive period of time, adopted their culture and practices, and participated actively in their communal affairs.

However, the world of today is gradually spoiling. Most of these people that answer "Chief" and "Lolo" simply go and buy a chieftaincy title (the idea of chieftaincy titles were introduced by the British) so that people can call them "Chief" or "Chief Mrs.". If that's what you want, sure. But it's not a legitimate traditional Igbo title.

I listened to the song "Kimi Rini Uya" by the Ika musician, Philo the Iron Lady, and she referred to "suffering" as "ita afufu". Why is that completely different from what you're saying, Agbotaen?

What's there to answer in your questions? All I saw was an emotions-laden post not worthy of a response - and if I had responded, it would have led to a shouting match.

Anyway, it's better to leave you in your denial than argue against it. And I'd rather debate Igbo culture with Ezeagu than you, to be honest. At least Ezeagu tries as much as possible to post without unnecessary emotions.

The point is that you can't debate what you don't know; you can only hope to learn from those who know. Therefore you can't debate Igbo culture with me [or with Ezeagu].

alj harem: Btw it does not mean the culture you borrowed from is better than yours. Fulanis are not better than Yoruba, nupe and Hausa but we learnt a lot from them and vise versa

Alj Harem, like I said earlier, I don't have time to come and discuss things that don't merit discussion. Neither you nor Shymexx possess any authority to speak authoritatively on anything regarding Igbo people and their culture, tradition and social habits.

Imagine Odumchi claiming that the red and white wooly hat isn't European lol.

Still don't know when Igboland started having winter season.

So you couldn't respond to my simple questions but now have the effrontery to reappear piggybacking on Alj Harem? Lol. You clearly haven't been here [on Nairaland] long enough to know that Alj Harem is among those characters who are not to be taken seriously.

The fact that this guy thinks beans (which originated in Africa and Asia) never existed in Igboland prior to the advent of Europeans kills me even more. I won't even bother.

This is clearly a case of one blind man leading another.
