That's why we should embrace innovative ways of managing our wastes. Convert waste plastics to paving blocks. Use waste biomass as biofuels. Turn lignocellulose wastes to biosorbent and ethanol. |

Eva101:Nope. Truth is you can decide to learn immensely while on NPower scheme or choose to play truancy. If you are truant, you lose a lot in terms of experience - thinking you are enjoying 30K. When you report at you PPA regulary you will tap from the wealth of experience of your bosses. Subject yourself to be mentored and corrected. NPower will also load series of trainings online. Create chance and go through the videos. Learn and develop yourself. Do not look at the money but the exposure. |

Who keeps on pushing these NPower misinformation to front page? Nairaland has really evolved to be so unprofessional. All the write-ups here on NPower are based on guess work making these applicants more confused. During our batch, we came to nairaland and got direction but now it's scrap you read on NPower. You guys should continue your bad work. 6 Likes |

Business / Converting Plastic Wastes To Paving Stone by Oduok(m): 9:46am On Aug 30, 2021 |
Plastic pollution is the accumulation of plastic objects and particles (e.g.sachet, bags and microbeads) in the Earth's environment that adversely affects wildlife, wildlife habitat, and humans. Plastics include: LDPE – for wrapping, sachet, bags HDPE – for gallons PET – water bottles Among others Plastic wastes are: Non-biodegradable Clog gutters Mistaken by aquatic organisms as food Habitat for pathogenic microbes Existing Solution Dumping at landfills Incineration Recycling in shoes, bags, and stones. Plastic Based Paving Stones Process: Materials: sharp sand and plastic wastes Sand is sieved to obtain uniform size of 2mm. Plastic waste is melted and sand poured in. The sand and plastic waste are properly mixed The mixture is poured into and allowed to set Merit: Option for ultimate plastic sequestration. Relatively simple process. Energy requirement is not exorbitant. Demerit: Compressive strength of the stone are lower than conventional paving stones. Risk of slipping while walking. Electricity sources may not be readily available to local residents who desire to employ this method. Innovation Using biomass based alternative as a source of material and energy: Palm kernel shell as a promising option to increase strength and grip. Sawdust, palm kernel shell, palm fruit fibre in a properly designed combustor will serve as cost effective energy source. We should educate everyone around us that plastic waste solution is readily available and join to discourage plastic pollution. https://odfidtechnicalworld..com/2021/08/plastic-wastes-to-paving-stone.html

Being in university shouldn't be a licence to misbehave in class. But then a university teacher should know how to control his class with an approach different from primitive secondary school method. Problem is most of our lecturers are trained on the content of their subject but not on how to educate on those subjects. 6 Likes |

There is an entry point for any career in a functional society. No I don't have verifiably published papers yet and not having them shouldn't be seen as a disability but a process. I have just finished my course work and exams. Now on my research which you know will statutory lead me to publish at least two papers. It's a process. Thank you so much for your response. Congratulations to Batch C Beneficiaries. I would advise that you don't spend the N30,000 on food. Use it to fund your passion. Invest on yourself and develop skill. Don't say the money is nothing - you know how difficult it is to get N30,000 monthly in this country. Be among those that come out of poverty when the roll shall be called. 13 Likes 1 Share |

Politics / Boiling Questions Surrounding The Petroleum Industry Act by Oduok(m): 12:50pm On Aug 23, 2021 |
I am currently studying the new Act to find out cogent areas that were expected to be solved by the new law. 1. Who owns the petroleum resources in Niger Delta - the people or the government. I am still scooping for the replacement to Section 1 of the Petroleum Act 1969. 2. What will be the status of NNPC - in theory and practice. Would it be a version of pre-1977 NNPC Act? 3. What will be the new fiscal regime? What makes up accessible profit. Tax regime etc. 4. Who regulates the sector? Has DPR gotten her autonomy? Has NNPC been fully commercialized? What has happened to the dream of have a type of API (American Petroleum Institute) in Nigeria - Has the law succeeded to give us NPI (Nigerian Petroleum Inspectorate)? 5. Has PTI (Petroleum Training Institute) been captured in the act? Is PTI Act repealed? Where is our position in OPEC? What happen to local content? What is the journey of nationalization and indigenization of multinationals. Please if you have an answer to any of these questions, feel free to comment |

Myketuale: 1. There is nothing that has not been published before. 2. No one can formulate a topic for you. First ask yourself, of everything i've been taught in biochemistry, which field do I intend to specialize in? What problem are you observing in the society that can be solved with the knowledge of biochemistry and your specialization. From here coin a topic around such problem. Go online and type your proposed topic. Read 20 journals on the related works. Check what they did, what they achieved, and what they didn't or could not do. Modify your topic to capture their limitations. 12 Likes 1 Share |
Politics / Why I Do Not Seem To Be Excited About The New Petroleum Industry Law by Oduok(m): 1:08pm On Aug 21, 2021 |
Recall that the President signed the Petroleum Industry Bill into law on the August 16, 2021. I schooled at the Petroleum Training Institute. You know what that mean? We were trained on the engineering, economics, and politics of the petroleum industry. I had the opportunity to interact with the owners and the controllers of the petroleum resources in the different states of the federation. We daily talked about the hopes and the despairs of being from an oil community. The Ogoni struggle, Ken Saro Wiwa, gas flaring, were our everyday gist back then. So I got so interested in the oil enterprise at a very young age. Also, as at the time the Petroleum Industry Bill was drafted I owned my personal hard copy which I read line by line, page by page. I was by then an intern at the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and part of my experience was to understand all existing laws in the Nigerian petroleum industry as well as international charter and conventions. I owned a hard copy of the Petroleum Act 1969 which I studied between lines. The petroleum industry bill, to us that saw the original version, was to be the best thing to happen to the Nigerian oil sector, the host community and the nation at large. It was to be a legal framework that harmonizes all extant laws hitherto operating the sector into one document. Hopes were high. We wished the bill was passed into law the next second. I seriously wonder if it that bill that is now passed into law and it look like nothing happened. Maybe Nigerians, like myself, from Niger-Delta have experienced things that were highly anticipated but turned out to be a mere ritual. To me this law might be like one of those things that just happen for happening sake without any or much impact on the masses. I would point a few examples: 1. Where is the impact of the 13percent oil derivation on the oil producing states: I remembered how as PTI students then we wished the struggle for 13% came speedily. Kudos to Victor Attah, James Ibori, and Peter Odili, that fought for the actualization of that. But where is the impact on the masses? My state still rank up in unemployment. 2. Where is the impact of Niger Delta Ministry: The only thing all of us know is the Minister of Niger Delta who by now must have greatly increase his net worth but we don’t seem to be aware of any ministry as such. We thought, if we could just have a separate ministry to oversee the affairs of the oil rich region then that would mean heaven on earth. 3. Where is the impact of stopping gas flaring: It might interest you to know that the cooking gas (LPG) that is now sold at an exorbitant price is waste gas of the oil sector. We dreamt that if it could only be harnessed we would cook free 24 hours with LPG and enjoy electricity free from Natural gas plant. Gas flaring has ceased, the waste gas is now converted to LPG, LNG, and CNG, but can we afford it as Nigerians. Can we access it? These and many more do make me skeptical about this new law and I ask, why can’t Nigerians benefit from Nigeria? By Idongesit F. Oduok Visit: www.odfidtechnicalworld..com for interesting updates

Mentioning your course and career prospect would have gone a long way in getting you specific advice. For now I would say make sure you are computer literate - know how to type very well, work with spreadsheet, prepare powerpoint presentation, and send mails. Locate a professional body in your discipline and register as a graduate member - start attending meetings, learn and contribute. If you can, get a job - full-tme, part-time, volunteer role do. Just getting professional certification is no more lucrative. We have too much papers - degrees and certifications - already. 2 Likes |
