The operating manual of any centrifugal pump often starts with a general statement, “Your centrifugal pump will give you completely trouble free and satisfactory service only on the condition that it is installed and operated with due care and is properly maintained.” Despite all the care in operation and maintenance, engineers often face the statement “the pump has failed i.e. it can no longer be kept in service”. Inability to deliver the desired flow and head is just one of the most common conditions for taking a pump out of service. There are other many conditions in which a pump, despite suffering no loss in flow or head, is considered to have failed and has to be pulled out of service as soon as possible. These include seal related problems (leakages, loss of flushing, cooling, quenching systems, etc), pump and motor bearings related problems (loss of lubrication, cooling, contamination of oil, abnormal noise, etc), leakages from pump casing, very high noise and vibration levels, or driver (motor or turbine) related problems. The list of pump failure conditions mentioned above is neither exhaustive nor are the conditions mutually exclusive. Often the root causes of failure are the same but the symptoms are different. A little care when first symptoms of a problem appear can save the pumps from permanent failures. Thus the most important task in such situations is to find out whether the pump has failed mechanically or if there is some process deficiency, or both. Many times when the pumps are sent to the workshop, the maintenance people do not find anything wrong on disassembling it. Thus the decision to pull a pump out of service for maintenance / repair should be made after a detailed analysis of the symptoms and root causes of the pump failure. Also, in case of any mechanical failure or physical damage of pump internals, the operating engineer should be able to relate the failure to the process unit’s operating problems. Any operating engineer, who typically has a chemical engineering background and who desires to protect his pumps from frequent failures must develop not only a good understanding of the process but also thorough knowledge of the mechanics of the pump. Effective troubleshooting requires an ability to observe changes in performance over time, and in the event of a failure, the capacity to thoroughly investigate the cause of the failure and take measures to prevent the problem from re-occurring. In this age of packaging, school owners do not stress themselves much before they buy the heart of parents. Tall buildings, exotic school buses, nice uniforms, and highly fluent phonetic teachers are enough to set up an international school. Don't let the school and the kid deceive you with fluency of words. If your kid has reached Junior Secondary 3 (JS3) sit him or her down and find out the following: 1. Can you use all the microsoft office tools to work? Can you program? Can you handle graphics and internet without apprenticeship? 2. Can you solve quadratic equation, simultanous equation, plot graphs, handle geometries? 3. Can you do metal work, wood work, fix electronics, sketch house plan, estimate quantity of tiles needed for a square area of work, understand polymer/soap/cosmetic production? 4. Can you manage a business and keep all the accounting books? Can you calculate discount, premium, tax, depreciation? 5. Do you know the content of a First Aid Box? Can you perform First Aid for bleeding, drowned, fractured, and poisoned patient? Nigeria has the best academic curriculum in the world but the problem is the will to implement it. Everyone is shouting non-performance of politicians, including teachers who only give our kids pseudo-education. Nigerians complained in the the 19th century that western education only increased the number of people that spoke and wrote while depleting those that were available to till the ground. This made Nigeria to evolve her curriculum toward technical. Outstanding Nigerian Doctors abroad are building and programming medical equipment - this is made possible through technology background at secondary school level. Mass Communication, fine art, nursing, physician, accounting, business management, hospitality and a wide range of other graduates are expected to use tools effectively. Let us not create educated people that can speak grammar only. Odfid Technical Center is in the process of bridging the gap between theory and practical in technical capacity of Nigerians. This document is to guide applicants on the various DPR service permits, particularly in choosing the appropriate areas of services under the General, Major and Specialized categories. A company may apply for and obtain permits in more than one category provided it is registered by Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and has the appropriate legal status as well as the competencies/capabilities/equipment to carry out the jobs. https://odfidtechnicalworld..com/2020/08/you-can-register-as-oil-company-with-as.html |
I have just finished reading your previous article. I want to strongly condemn your action of writing that. It was so inappropriate. To me it had been better if you did not enrol on PG at all than for this you have put yourself into. Look for another career path and pursue and forget academics - if you had ever nursed an interest. Next time find out what character+learning mean in academic society. |
Wow! This is a beautiful piece of information. Thank you so much. But then, those of us that our friends started calling us Profs when we were doing our OND programme, which category do we belong. Are we Honourary Profs? |
I am beginning to believe that granting southern Nigerians a separate country will be to the disadvantage of southerners. The southerners are terrible to her people. Most times we wish Britain had not hand Nigeria to Nigerians. It might be worse when Southern Seccession is granted to southerners. |
The answer is 34. I entered the room and met 34 people. I killed 30people. It wasn't mentioned that the 30people I killed were those people in the room. So there are still 34people in the room. |
Whereas many volunteers feel it is the federal government that should absorb volunteers into federal ministries and parastals, I am of the opinion that State governments should show that commitment towards NPower volunteers. President Buhari created NPower to equip youths with the tools for employment. These volunteers were deployed to state government agencies. As an Engineering graduate, my State Technical Schools Board deployed me to a Technical College where I taught General Metal Work and Chemistry. For these two years I have been equipped with the capacity of being a Technical Instructor in Technical Colleges. This was made possible by the NPower PREPARE training package of how to plan and teach, as well as mentoring by the permanent teachers. The experience was awesome as it gave me the opportunity to lay a solid foundation for those high school kids with interest in Engineering. Within these two years the school management where I served testified of the gap NPower volunteers fill in the school. They get disturbed everyday knowing that our stay was temporary. With this foregoing, I believe it should be the place of the state governments to permanent volunteers' appointment. Federal government has done her part by recruiting, posting, training, and paying volunteers to gain employable skills to serve in the education, health, and agro sector of various state governments. State governments on her part should show commitment too towards Batch A and B volunteers. |
300 level and he is already making a turbine |
In my own opinion, I feel the picture signifies that, "you only acquire knowledge if you look for it the same way a drowned man is looking for air." - An ancient Philosopher. |
These question is theoretical. I do not think it is thinkable in practice. Even the OP being a man would not attempt to marry without a source of income. The question should have been if a woman should accept to marry a man without a source of income? |
Humans won't cease to amaze me. You will be in relationship. Enjoy all the intimacy and warmth. Later you come with problem to share with the public. |
If we convert the energy we use in struggling for positions to being productive contributors in our different organizations, then we would definitely be more productive. Power tussle is what you see everywhere - professional associations, religious groups, voluntary organizations, faculty board and trade unions. |
I think it is not a matter of Covid-19 but tradition. Since as Africans we honour religion and tradition, then their tradition should be respected. This may not respond to logic and reason. |
mcqwerty:Done that. Thanks so much. I've juust done that with online Excel tutorials on school records, and nursing records. |
ugwumichael:It was free |
stanliwise:Wow! This challenge is striking. How do I go about that? I only use softwares in my engineering endeavours. Softwares like HYSYS, MATLAB, EXCEL etc. I was not trained on building softwares. I would so much love to. |
Our Esteemed Data Analysts/Scientists. Please tell me what software I can learn to enable me manage academic records like register, report card, broadsheet etc - starting with primary and secondary school records. I just completed a course on Data Science/Analytics Intro with IBM and want to see how I can start to manage small data before thinking of big data, machine learning and artificial intelligence. Thank you in advance. |
I may not know if OP mearnt "studying the courses" or just "having certificates in the courses". Often times we just bag certificates in certain wonderful courses without actually studying these courses practically thereby reducing the value and utility of the courses. |
Politics can be so suffocating. You are imagining any possible way of making it in this county only to come online to see politicians applauding one another for things non-existing while the status quo prevail. |
How many of us have taken time to study the packages that NPower has been posting on our dashboard in order to enhance our skill for this 21st century. Packages like coding, data science, internet of things, apps development etc. |
Millerules:I wrote mine yestaday.. Supply chain, no feedback yet. |
OP there is limit to the advise we can give you here because we do not know a lot of background information about parties involved. Could it be that your sister also lives in the village and perhaps with a lesser source of income compare to what his suitor has or no source of income at all? There is no straight answer here. It is all a matter of choice and taste. If your sister and her suitor are from village setting then they may not have any issue. Marriages in typical villages in Nigeria are carried out without sources of income, and marrying into a family house is not strange at all. What should matter now is where both parties see themselves in the nearest future and what they are determined to do to actualize it. |
I have always told you guys not to take government statistics seriously because they may be doctored. Instead take personal responsibility of your safety in times like this. But then, Aniekeme Uwah was wrong organizationally for taking any action without instruction from his boss. Basic principle of management - flow of information. |
Scholars in the country would be shouting, "no lab". So how did you now managed to earn your First degree, Masters, and Ph.D. Are you reporting yourselves that you have not been embarking on research before getting degrees? Nigerian scholars need to take the point OP raised as a challenge. Let's be more committed to realtime research within the availability of what we have. Cheating has been killing us and it's manifesting. Stop forging research results just to move on. Covid-19 is an eye opener. BTW, OP what has your own field contributed this period of pandemic? |
FIRE ACCIDENT OR ARSON? Do we have forensic investigation unit in Nigerian Police Force? This is the time for them to swing into action. The fire incidence in our top government offices should be investigated as a matter of urgency. First, it was Ministry of Finance, then CAC, now attempt on CBN. This trend doesn't look like mere safety incidents. It has some signature of arson, terrorism, or some malicious sabotage. An independent investigation by third party can also be carried out incase these are wilful attempt by government to cover up loopholes. The report should be published to add to our body of knowledge. |
The outbreak of Covid-19 has turned most Nigerians to pharmacists and chemists - producing "hand sanitizer". This development has posed a serious risk to our society as these producers see it as an opportunity to make money the usual "Nigerian way". What does WHO mean by alcohol? Alcohol (alkanol) is a big family that comprises of many members. The average Nigerian experimenting with production of hand sanitizer will be exposed to at least four types of alcohols. Are all these effective for the purpose? These alcohols are: 1. Ethanol ( going by our local names ogogoro, akaikai, ufofup): This is the most effective of all the alcohols that WHO recommend in antisepsis (sanitizing). Strangely, no one is using this because they do not want their product to look as if it is local. They do not want people to know their formulation. They want their sanitizer to appear foreign hence they avoid using ethanol which is far most effective. 2. Isopropanol (IPA): The next alcohol that is equivalent with ethanol in antisepsis (sanitizing) is IPA. Many producers at this time want a product that is formulated with IPA so as to make it look foreign and superior to those with local raw material. The challenge they however have is cost. A litre of IPA which was 1200naira three weeks ago now cost 1800naira. So this cost factor makes sanitizer makers to desire an alternate raw material, but not locally sourced. 3. Methanol: This is what a lot of sanitizer makers now use to cut cost. A litre of Methanol is only 800naira now. It appears almost same way as IPA but is not in the list of alcohols for antisepsis. 4. Glycerol: This is a tertiary class of alcohol which is in strict sense not a requirement for sanitizers but can be optionally used to serve as moisturizer. This will make the product to have nice feel. All these Methanol based sanitizers people are parading about with is doing more harm than good. This is because someone who will naturally not shake hands will comfortably do that because he/she has sanitizer to use thereafter. Please handwash with soap in running tap is still the best bet. Employ social distancing. Use sanitizer from only trusted producers. |
The status of Coronavirus currently stands at 209,839 confirmed cases with 8,779 confirmed death globally (WHO). Coronaviruses (CoV) are a large family of viruses that cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS-CoV) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV). Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is a new strain that was discovered in 2019 and has not been previously identified in humans. Coronaviruses are zoonotic, meaning they are transmitted between animals and people. Detailed investigations found that SARS-CoV was transmitted from civet cats to humans and MERS-CoV from dromedary camels to humans. Several known coronaviruses are circulating in animals that have not yet infected humans. Common signs of infection include respiratory symptoms, fever, cough, shortness of breath and breathing difficulties. In more severe cases, infection can cause pneumonia, severe acute respiratory syndrome, kidney failure and even death. Standard recommendations to prevent infection spread include regular hand washing, covering mouth and nose when coughing and sneezing, thoroughly cooking meat and eggs. Avoid close contact with anyone showing symptoms of respiratory illness such as coughing and sneezing. Up until now, the most advertised protection against contracting the disease is the use of hand sanitizer. This write-up is to let you know that not until you have hand-sanitizer that you are protected. In case you cannot see or afford to buy hand sanitizer at the pharmacist shop, the following ways are methods that can keep you protected: 1. Hand washing with soap or detergent: This is an age long method of protection against micro-organisms. Any soap can do even to the the least expensive soda soap. Wash your hands at regular intervals. 2. Alcohol: Call it ogogoro or akaikai is more effective than the commercial hand sanitizers. So, if you have access to this product you can use it to clean your hand where water and soap are not readily available. Why Isopropanol is substituted for ethanol in the formulation of antiseptics is purely based on religious bias by christian/moslem fundamentalists who demonize this product. But ethanol sure remain a gold standard in antisepsis. 3. Izal (Phenolic): since Covid-19 is not airborne, it settles on surfaces like floors, tables etc mopping your floors with phenolic based Izal would go a long you in keeping you protected. These and others are ways you can keep your protected during this trying time that the world is going through. You can always count on us at Odfid Tehnical Center for your environmental safety products and many more. You can get Isopropanol based hand sanitizer, chlorine based bleach, Phenol based Germicide (Izal), Liquid detergent, Bar soap, and many more at high quality and affordable prices. https://odfidtechnicalworld..com/2020/03/it-is-not-until-you-have-hand-sanitizer.html

Mails will start dropping today by Gods grace |
If our education system was good, undergraduates and graduates would not be frying akara. Instead they would showcase a solution from the knowledge they have acquired in school and grow from there. I don't know who to blame - is it that our lecturers don't understand enough to teach, or our students don't have the capacity to learn, or our environment is not favourable for intellectual solutions? |
I have carefully read through all the pages of this thread. I must say I have learnt a lot. Thanks OP for opening this thread. The OP can use the information on this thread without meeting any consultant if he knows how to arrange the information and filter the 2percent worthless opinions off. Thanks to everyone that have contributed to this thread. I did my internship at Retail Outlet and Marketing (ROM) unit of DPR and thereafter have consulted for over 200 companies that needed to build and licence petrol stations and gas plants in Akwa Ibom and Cross River State. I can confirm that I have seen expert advice on this thread. In addition to all the advice, OP needs to set aside 2million naira for paper work and other items like site suitablity inspection, authority to construct, licence to operate, pressure and leak detection test, police report, fire service report, EIA, 2KM stretch map, building plan, survey plan, tax clearance etc. You don't need a consultant if you can synthesis all the information provided here on this thread. All the best. |
