bigpicture001: Because of the high cost of energy, I barred her from overly use of electric hot plate, also gas finishes so fast.. all these are draining the family maintainance resources..
So I deviced a means to bring down the cost of energy by purchasing gokpo charcoal stove.. it's a new kinda charcoal stove that doesn't fume, it's clean energy and also burns faster..
Just that u need to infuse charcoal enough and cook straight hours so u can exchaust the charcoal, lest it won't stop burning inside..
Believe me, it doesn't darken pot nor fume..
By she has refused to use it, claiming I am taking her to olden days and causing lots of stress..
Okay I suggested she start to part pay the cost of cooking energy if sh must stick with her choice.. but sh has not filled gas since then nor part pay the huge NEPA bill that comes monthly..
Abeg wetin I go do for this case

Ihaveleftnaija: Lessons I Learned as a Nigerian in the Diaspora that i wish for Nigeria or wish we could improve in .
As a Nigerian living in the diaspora, I have had the opportunity to experience life outside the country. After leaving Nigeria, I lived in South Africa for ten years and in Canada for two years. These experiences shaped my understanding of governance, citizenship, and responsibility in ways I never fully grasped while at home.
In both countries, one thing stood out clearly: the government takes care of the basic needs of its citizens. There are welfare payments for the unemployed, financial support for children, and proper care for the elderly and people living with disabilities. Education is free or heavily subsidised for the poor, and loans are easily accessible for the middle class. These systems are not perfect, but they work.
However, what truly keeps these systems alive is not just the government—it is the people.
In South Africa, for example, some politicians are just as corrupt as those in Nigeria. The difference is that citizens do not give them breathing space. The moment information about corruption or misconduct comes out, the public reacts immediately and aggressively. Protests, media pressure, court actions, and public outrage follow without delay.
People do not care whether the politician is black or white, Zulu or Sotho, or from their own community. Once you mess with the system they pay taxes for, you are on your own. Citizens defend institutions, not individuals or tribes. Any leader who tampers with public trust is effectively playing Russian roulette with their political career—and sometimes their personal safety.
This culture of active citizenship keeps leaders in check. It makes the elite afraid to “do anyhow,” because they know the people are watching and will respond.
What I wish we could learn in Nigeria is unity and active citizenship. We must understand that governance is not the government’s job alone. Taxes are not punishment; they are part of development and good governance—if citizens demand accountability and ensure those taxes are used properly.
Until Nigerians begin to see themselves as stakeholders rather than spectators, and until we defend systems instead of individuals, real change will remain a distant dream.
Nairalanda1 WizardOfNG Izombie Helinues Seunmsg Racoon Offpoint1 Rossik You've said it all, but Unity is an alien language in Nigeria. |

Deicide: Why do Nigerians find it hard to pay people their money? As I am speaking like this there was a program we did 2 weeks ago up till now they still neva pay us. And this is not the first time something like this is happening. To think it is happening even in an international level is a shame to us as a people. A very big company in Lagos is owing huge amount of money for over 3 months now, an urgent job that almost nobody was willing to do for them. You know a job that was supposed to take minimum of 2 weeks and they want it delivered in 3 days, it was extremely important to them. Almost everyone they contacted was turning down because it's almost impossible to deliver in 3 days. I came to their rescue, got tons of extra hands and machines, pay 3x the cost of hiring extras and had operation running 24/7 nonstop. Didn't go home nor sleep more than a hour each day for the 3 days. After all that, they're yet to pay me till date... Not that they don't have the money. |
