TooNoisy:Murtala Mohammed and Gowon were also never presidents. They were heads of state. What mattered was that they had federal executive powers. They appointed ministers and approve budgets. Zik was not an executive president. The real power was with Tafawa Balewa. It was Balewa that appointed all the government ministers with portfolios, and it was Balewa that appended his signature to national budgets. Aguiyi Ironsi was the only Igbo man to ever exercise executive power in Nigeria. It lasted for just six months. So basically, Igbos have only had the executive power for just six months out of 61 years |
orisa37:Possibly Ojo Maduekwe. Don't quote me though |
IgweOfNnewi:But Obiano does not control agberos in Anambra, nor does he have any concessions granted the companies that he controls, nor is his son the babaloja of any market in Anambra, nor does Obiano control the house of assembly members of Anambra. Anambra people will definitely not stand for that. I am as much a stake holder in Soludo's governance as Obiano's son. Peter Obi helped Obiano into governorship, but you can never describe Peter Obi as Obiano's godfather. When Peter left APGA, Obiano did not sheepishly follow him. Anambra governors are their own men. |
aribisala0:I have kicked your ass with pure logic and you are trying to throw up a smokescreen before you disappear. Tell your friend to give us the link to the credible article that quotes any UN agency that stipulates that Yoruba is endangered, possibly with the year this UN agency assertion was made. |
LegendHero:You and confusionist ways are like 5 & 6 The list of endangered Nigerian languages that you dragged out, are they from 2006? Read the article on this page and see that they are talking specifically about late 2006, and I am sure that you are aware of this 2006 time slice, after all you tried to disparage any article, as unacceptable. This clearly tells me you are aware of the time in question https://www.researchgate.net/publication/330854897_UNESCO_Prediction_of_the_Igbo_Language_Death_Facts_and_Fables Also, as you also claimed that Yoruba was also listed in a credible article, as endangered. Please show us that article, which presumably quotes a UN agency, that states that Yoruba is also endangered. We are all eyes. And by the way, if you are still interested in reading where UNESCO stated that Igbo language is endangered, please search and find UNESCO publication(s) on endangered Nigerian languages in 2006 |
LegendHer0:Then how come what you know does not tally with a UN agency finding, that clearly stipulates that Igbo language is endangered? How come the same report did not state that Yoruba language is also endangered? When you want to come up with points, come up with back-able points. Don't just do the same thing that NBS headed by your brother is doing. Pulling out figures from his ass. |
aribisala0:Now compare this my own experience with the fact that some years ago, a UN agency placed the Igbo language on their list of endangered languages. What this means is that my personal experience tallies with the UN agency's findings. If Igbo speakers in the US are just 94,000, out of a possible 500,000 to 1 million Igbos in the US, then it still tallies with the UN agency's findings. I am sure if you search, you may find the UN agency that found this out. I can't be bothered to go looking for it. So basically, your attempts at rubbishing my statements, have obviously met a brick wall in the face of superior logic |
aribisala0:I know about 6 Yorubas in the UK, all of them from different families, who have never been to Nigeria, yet they speak perfect Yoruba, and they don't know each other. Mind you, both parents of each of these people, are Yorubas. I know about 3 Igbos brought up in Onitsha, who only speak English, because of their parent's foolishness. Their parents are surprisingly from Imo. This is just a very minute sample, yet very revealing. |
Since Abba Kyari went underground, Buhari, Monguno and the rest no longer have access to properly tailored trousers. Why? |
If it is ASO ROCK, then that must be Buhari ![]() |
Kenekingisback:Umueri is definitely not an ancient kingdom. But Umuleri was an ancient settlement. They changed their name to Umueri a few years ago |
forgiveness:He became a free man before he founded Opobo ,years after his freedom |
BKayy:Just to shed a little more light. 1. Onuku has been explained 2. Onoja nwa Oboli (Onoja the son of Oboli). According to UMU NRI tales, Onoja was the last son of Eri who migrated to Idah. Oboli was Eri's second wife. As the last son, obviously his elder brothers which included Nri-Menri, Agulu and the others observed him in n his formative years when he acted silly, like lastborns do. The expression ONOJA NWA OBOLI, also became a way of saying that someone is silly or demented. Any UMU NRI man above the age of 70 is conversant with that expression. But it is phasing out in preference for the more widely used ONUKU. But at some point, the Igalas started twisting this tale to the extent that they came up with a more militaristic view of ONOJA As I wrote earlier on, Oboli was Eri's second wife, and Nneamaku was Eri's first wife Igboid Bkayy |
Ibani migrant elders also tried to take over Jaja's throne, but the Jaja's chased them away via the supreme court. We have seen all these shenanegans before. The only difference now, is that Igbos are gradually getting to be aware of these evil machinations. Thanks to Dakuku Peterside that reminded Igbos a few years ago, to keep an eye on Opobo, as it is Igbo territory |
peleson1:You can kid yourself as much as you like. Ngwa people also were half of the Igbo people that first settled in Ubani. The Jajas own Opobo And you can tell us what NWAOTAM means in Ijaw. The ultimate proof is the DNA proof. All these concocted history by Alagoa, sponsored by shady Ijaw groups won't cut it. Eventually when the Anambra cultural juggernauts get involved, you will be left with nothing. Eventually, Umu Nri people will want to know whether Ngwa and Ndoki and Amaigbo people subscribe to the four Nri market days. That will help to establish whether they belong with the Igbos or the Ijaws. But first of all, go and convince the Ndokis to stop seeking to be a part of ENOA state, which is proposed to encompass some Igbo groups in the Niger Delta. Even Amaigbo people will get involved at some point, and they will drag in their fellow Igbos that number in their tens of millions. You have no chance whatsoever, especially as books written by ancient neutral observers have already made it clear that Bonny was first settled by Igbos. Finally, what does IBANI mean in Ijaw? Feel free to ask us what UBANI means in Igbo |
scholes0:You are slightly wrong with your first paragraph. I was based in the UK. Yorubas are renowned for teaching their kids Yoruba. Igbos are known for not bothering. Their are hundreds of thousands of Yorubas that have never been to o Nigeria, yet they speak Yoruba. It is not even a competition. That is a plus for the Yorubas, but here is you all are, trying to belittle this Yoruba achievement. For every Igbo child that is being taught Igbo in the US, there are probably about 4 or 5 Yoruba youths learning Yoruba. If you all remember, there was a UN agency study that once placed Igbo language on the endangered language list some years ago. Yoruba was never placed on that same list, obviously because Yoruba parents were passing on the language to the younger generation. The only reason Igbo speakers in the US are even up to 90,000+, according to this US report, is because Igbos have a huge population, otherwise realistically speaking, the Igbo figure is even worse than the Edoid figure ratio-wise. |
LegendHero:I don't remember arguing with you on this topic. I'm even surprised Igbo speaking families are that much. Most ethnic Igbos don't bother teaching their kids Igbo, and that is why the EPIC channel on AfRICA Magic is the most widely viewed channel, on DSTV. Now even though I don't have this data, but I expect the AM Yoruba channel on DSTV to be more widely viewed than the AM Igbo channel, b cause Igbos are much more likely to be watching AM Epic, which is 95% dominated by Igbo culture and settings. |
Another DSS classic. Buhari and his Fulani terrorists are just stupid, thinking they can fool anyone with yet another DSS-created group. |
ChrisKels, first of all I thought it was Igboid that created this topic. Now the point I intend to make is that Enugwu-Ezike people claim Nri ancestry. In fact I am aware some of their elders and leaders still go to Enugwu-ukwu (the Umunri first born lineage) from where they originated, to renew their bonds with Umunri. With this in mind, I am not surprised they take the kolanut first, before indigenes of Idah |
From Buhari to Hope Uzodinma to Andy Ubah to Ganduje, to many of the APC officials, it is the same tale of dodgy certificates from the supreme court and from the guys down the street. I am happy Anambra will never allow such phonies into governance |
APC which happens to be IPOB's party lost, so I understand if you write that IPOB lost ![]() APGA the Fulani terrorist party won. I hope you are happy now |
Anambra no be Nigeria. You must have an authenticated academic record before you can be considered. APGA provides a level playing field and it is meritocratic. Thank God for that party |
starbuck:Then read the comments, and stop commenting ![]() |
Guestlander:APC already controls two Igbo states. Also PDP controls two Igbo states. If PDP and APC won't give Igbos the presidential slot, we don't care. We were told that once Umahi switched to APC, Igbos will be given the presidential slot of APC. If that fails to happen, it also means APC won't give Igbos the presidential slot if Anambra were to vote in APC. Anambra people have no reason voting in APC. Let APC show honour by promising Igbos the presidential slot, otherwise Anambrarians owe APC nothing. |
CryptoClub2018:That dot, was the hole made by the bullet that killed Nigeria ![]() |
CryptoClub2018:You are obviously not happy because Tinubu has once again, been trampled on, in the ongoing Anambra gubernatorial election. Tinubu will not win in any SE and SS state. He cannot expect to be forgiven for undermining a southern president. |
That has always been Buhari's strategy. Bribing people to vote for a terrorist murderous party. Anambra no be Lagos, Edo or Imo |
Ayomide811:Meanwhile, Kano Igbos have more than 500,000 votes Always factor that |
Thmaartentrends:And that was how Obasanjo went about his. Someone that was brought out of jail, pardoned, and sponsored with funds, just so the Yorubas will have a bite of the presidency. To be honest, I prefer a separate Igbo nation than being in a nation with people whose hearts and conscience are as ugly as they look. |
YoungLionken:The OP did not log out. The snake only had to get into www.nairaland.com and send the message the OP had already drafted ![]() |
The snake doesn't look dead How are we sure the snake hasn't killed the OP, and then used the OP's login to send this message to nairalanders |
BKayy:If everybody on earth is biblically descended from Adam, then it is conceivable that some communities are descended from one ancestor. But it is impossible to enumerate ones ancestors all the way to your original town ancestor, because our forefathers kept no written records. I can supposedly enumerate my ancestors up to my town's ancestor, but I know there must be huge holes in them. At best, I only have about 30% of those names. The civilization I hail from predates the 8th century according to archaeological records, so I should have around 60 direct ancestors. But at the moment, I will be able to name about 20 of them |
