Historical Uproar: Guinea Demands Retroactive AFCON Title After CAF’s Senegal Ruling The Guinea Football Federation has formally requested that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) review the outcome of the 1976 Africa Cup of Nations, arguing that Morocco should be stripped of their title due to a brief walkout during their decisive match against Guinea. This unprecedented demand comes in the wake of CAF’s controversial decision to overturn the 2025 AFCON final result, stripping Senegal of their victory and awarding the trophy to hosts Morocco, following a Senegalese walkout. Guinea contends that similar disciplinary standards should be applied retrospectively to historical matches. In the crucial 1976 round-robin fixture, Guinea held a 1-0 lead against Morocco, who needed a draw to secure the championship. Moroccan players briefly walked off the pitch in protest over a refereeing decision before returning to finish the game, which ultimately ended 1-1. This result saw Morocco top the group and claim the title, with Guinea finishing second. The Guinean federation stated, “Give us back our 1976 AFCON trophy,” asserting that retroactive sanctions should apply when teams abandon play. They argue that the incident should be reassessed using the principles applied in the recent 2025 ruling. However, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that sports legal analysts have pointed out that current CAF regulations, such as Article 84, were not in effect in 1976 and are rarely applied retroactively. CAF has yet to respond to Guinea’s appeal, which observers believe could significantly test the organisation’s willingness to revisit historical decisions and potentially open a Pandora’s box for past football controversies. kunle4toyeyaho:Funny how you said 'i’m not speaking for him' and then proceed to write a release on his behalf. So which one is it? You say we’re quoting him out of context, but the message was crystal clear: deliver steady electricity or don’t expect votes. Now suddenly it’s 'unless I explain why I couldn’t' and 'strategic moves are in progress.” Did he become president just to make strategic moves, Nigerians want results not strategic moves. Every government create committees, approves funds, and announces projects, that’s the easy part. The real question is: are Nigerians actually seeing constant electricity today? Because at the end of the day, no amount of grammar, 'GENCO payments,' or 'substation plans' will power people’s homes, light will. So again, simple question, Do Nigerians have stable electricity now? If no, then the promise hasn’t been fulfilled. |
wellmax:We dey talk another, you dey yarn dust is that the subject matter of this thread |
Nobody is happy under the APC led regime. Even those who claim to be ‘standing on the mandate’ aren’t happy either |
Every Nigerian voter should know: if Bola Ahmed Tinubu or the APC hands you money, rice, or gifts on election day, remember where it comes from, the same source that caused the hardships, rising insecurity, and failures of the past four years. And don’t be fooled: another four years won’t be any different. infact, it will be far worst. He hasn’t done anything now, and he won’t do anything later especially since he doesn’t even have a reelection to worry about |
Kudos to Hakimi, that’s the honorable thing to do. Shame on CAF. You don’t win trophies behind the scenes; you win them on the field. |
Fearurcreeator:You don’t just say ‘go do your research’ and call it an argument. If you make a claim, you back it up with facts. You said Goodluck Jonathan can’t lace Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s shoes and is ‘too small’ in leadership, fine. Now prove it with actual evidence. |
Fearurcreeator:On what metrics Can we have the numbers |
This should be Nigerians’ campaign anthem. As the election approaches, every voter should play this and ask: Did Bola Ahmed Tinubu deliver constant electricity? If the answer is no, then no vote for him. After all, he said it himself, "if he fails to provide constant electricity, Nigerians shouldn’t vote for him when he comes back seeking a second term.”

Fearurcreeator:If 'since Jonathan didn’t resign' is now the benchmark for leadership, that’s a pretty low bar to defend, bro! The real question was never whether Jonathan resigned or not, it’s about consistency and accountability. Bola Ahmed Tinubu once said the buck stops at the president's table and urged Goodluck Jonathan to step down over insecurity. That standard didn’t come with an expiry date. Now that he’s in charge and the country is facing an even worse insecurity crisis, it’s only fair to ask him to live by the same principle he preached. Leadership isn’t about shifting goalposts, it’s about standing by your words when it’s inconvenient. So no, this isn’t about Jonathan anymore. It’s about Tinubu taking his own advice, or telling us that it all politics like fuel subsidy and admitting it was never sincere to begin with. |
I think there should be a law barring elected officials from seeking another office before completing their constitutionally allowed terms, especially governors. Finish your full term, go home, and in the next election cycle, if your people still find you worthy, they can elect you into a different office. You were governor of an entire state for nearly eight years, you represented everyone. Now you want to go to the Senate to represent just a fraction of that same state? And maybe you’ll say you want to attract development to your senatorial zone from the federal government, the same development you couldn’t attract when you had the power of a governor. |
I think na the other way around she no send Tinubu. |
aseyi24:As part of the “Renewed Hope” agenda, Lagos had already increased BRT fares long before fuel prices started rising. Clearly, they knew the US–Israel–Iran war would affect oil prices. Very proactive. https://www.nairaland.com/8623991/brt-fare-hike-lagos-govt |
This is supposed to be a huge gain to Nigeria and its citizens but because of bad government, it will become a nightmare |

The thugs stormed the venue in Alesa, Eleme, Rivers, dispersed supporters, and destroyed canopies, loudspeakers, chairs, and other equipment. Suspected political thugs disrupted the maiden meeting of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Young Women Forum on Friday in the Eleme Local Government Area (LGA) of Rivers. The thugs stormed the venue in Alesa, Eleme, Rivers, dispersed supporters, and destroyed canopies, loudspeakers, chairs, and other equipment. The thugs disrupted the meeting, claiming the organisers had not obtained prior approval and that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not authorised political activities. The national coordinator of the ADC Young Women’s Forum, Atosemi Oma-Uwame, condemned the incident, describing the disruption as an attempt to suppress democratic engagement and opposition parties ahead of the elections. “We gathered here today to inaugurate the ADC Young Women Forum in Eleme LGA. Thugs led by a ward councilor (name withheld) disrupted our meeting. “The councillor claimed that we did not obtain approval from his office, but we did not come here for a campaign, but rather for a gathering of ADC young women in my Eleme constituency. “They said that if I want to host an event in the community, I should not use the name ADC or mention my political party,” she said. Ms Oma-Uwame said she had earlier been warned against hosting the event under her party’s platform in the area. “The disruption of our meeting is an attempt to stifle democracy and prevent political engagement,” she said. Ms Oma-Uwame stated that the group was not a feminist movement but rather aimed to promote gender balance within her party. “Young women should not shy away from politics. We do not need to beg men to grant us our rights. “We encourage young women who wish to participate in politics or contest for positions to obtain party forms and contest,” Ms Oma-Uwame said. https://gazettengr.com/thugs-disrupt-adc-womens-rally-in-rivers/ |
DomPerignon, minister of Peter Obi affairs |
A fierce war of words erupted on social media between former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK), and veteran journalist and former Presidential candidate, Dele Momodu, over alleged insults and political grievances.https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.vanguardngr.com/2026/03/who-looks-more-like-a-pig-fani-kayode-and-dele-momodu-again-clash/amp/ |
dalass:Are you now justifying the disaster Adelabu turned out to be as Minister of Power? |
What will Adelabu campaign with Nigeria's worst minister of power |
You told Goodluck Jonathan the buck stops with him and urged him to resign over insecurity. Now that you’re in charge, perhaps it’s time you take your own advice
|
This is commendable Abia state is truly God's own state |
Sangoamadioha1:My brother, the fellow ‘Richtaiwo’ you’re engaging and others like him, don’t seem to have the capacity for logical argument. They’re not here to explain why Bola Ahmed Tinubu should succeed; they’re here to offer increasingly unreasonable justifications for why he has failed, woefully and spectacularly. Ask why fuel prices are high in Nigeria, and they’ll say it’s also high in Canada. Ask why insecurity is worsening, and they’ll tell you it’s a global problem. Remind them that Bola Ahmed Tinubu once told Goodluck Jonathan to resign over insecurity, and ask why he is yet to take that same advice, they will tell you to go and force him to resign, or better still, to ‘secure yourself, don't wait for Tinubu.’ But before all these deflections, they’ll first try to pigeonhole you, assigning you an ethnic label or tagging you a supporter of Peter Obi because, to them, every argument must come from a tribe, not from reason. |
This is obviously the worst regime in human history |
Truly, just as Dele Momodu said, Femi Fani-Kayode is a perpetual agent of perfidy, lacking credibility. |
Timmi:African Democratic Congress (ADC) has never been in power at the federal level since its formation in 2005, so asking ‘when they were in power’ is already fiction. Now to your point: if a party that has never governed is somehow responsible for today’s hunger, inflation, and insecurity, then what exactly is the job of the current government? You are asking for manifesto, you will get the manifesto if you so chose to, but what is the manifesto of the current APC Led regime? Blaming ADC for Nigeria’s present condition is like blaming passengers for a plane crash while the pilots are still in the cockpit. Nigerians aren’t asking for miracles, just accountability from those actually holding power, not recycled excuses about people who never had it. |
So Tinubu went to the UK, and all we got was an agreement to receive offenders and failed asylum seekers, while the UK gains everything and Nigeria loses? |
