Benny6944: Shut down jare.. you have no points here. where's it in football is balondor recognized as the most prestigious individual honor?
How did modric win it in 2018 over Ronaldo? How did messi win it in 2010 over sneijder? what did modric do in 2018, Sneijder didn't do x10 in 2010? Even won treble, became the best in UCL, best in Italy, finished runer up in the world.. greatest football robbery of all time.
How did messi win it ahead of VVD in 2019? can you compare his season to canavaro who won it in 2006? maybe if all this robberies existed back then, canavaro, kaka and co wouldn't have won it.
how did messi win it ahead of Lewandoski in 2021?
So shameful. you can now see how useless and inconsistent the award have become so far.
One thing is certain here, Ronaldo will always be the greatest in big stage take it or leave it.
He dominates in world cup ahead of messi, dominates in international level, dominate in all records you can think of in the best European tournament UCL.. both trophies, assists and goals. so shut down and hibernate in shame. you think its all about being carried by some calibre of players lol.. he has every squad in PSG, let him do the same over there. always searching for a comfort zone. leaving clubs to thrive in another is not meant for everyone. that's the challenge RONALDO is talking about.
2010 Balon d'Or belonged to Iniesta or Snedijer . The world knew it, even the organisers knew it.
Just incase you don't know, he was referring to Rooney and Jamie, Hence the response, Two Jealous... Jamie has always talked trash about Ronaldo as a footballer and a pundit, as for the cattle Rooney, he comes outta no where and starts yaning bullshit. Imagine him praising Maguire's season and finding fault in CR7's... Madness .
paulolee: see who de talk...engage me in any aguement asif d engagement go credit my Aza.. d stats are there, numbers dont lie.....pep av eclipse all managers in EPL except fergie.. if pep is doing such wonders in united or chelsea, una go say e is the best coach ever.. tuchel n klop winning d ucl ahead of him changes nothing bcox pep is better tactically,...hos trophies dnt lie
. Let me indulge you ... Did I say Pep was/is not a good coach ? Did I say Pep was/is not among the greatest coach in football ? If you have been following the Pep- Mourinho( and other great coaches ) discussions, argument , and stance on the greatest coach ever, you will know that Pep's greatness has been attributed to Messi, Xavi and Iniesta , even though I don't agree totally to it, there seems to be some little truth to it... His main rival Mourinho, won it with two different clubs; and the second time he won it , he made sure he beat Guardiola during the tournament to lift the cup. Know this today, it's the tiny edge Mourinho has over Guardiola. Same Pep went to Bayern just immediately after they won the UCL and for 3 good seasons , he didn't lift the UCL,; winning the bundesliga did not "count" cos it is Bayern's birthright. Now in England, with so much money spent , you think because he has won the league thrice, he can now boldly say he's the greatest or be seen as the greatest ? Do you know if Zidane goes to another club and wins the league and UCL with that club, wether you like it or not , he will be seen as greater coach than Pep ? Or better still, go and ask Pep to sincerely tell you the truth , how important it is for him to win the UCL..
P.s. The owners of City want that UCL badly, if you think it's a lie, ask their cousins in Paris.
paulolee: nope, he knows nothing....teams like man.u de find coach dt would play beautiful football after spending cash n even win a spoon in all this wasted years... pep have won EPL n domestic titles dt united are wishing to win, the UCL don't worry him dt much n besides, united for happy if DM get such a coach even without winning d EPL...
I keep telling you , when it comes to football, you don't know anything, and I can't engage you in any argument because it is worthless ...
Dailymemoirs4: Does Rooney have an axe to Grind with Ronaldo?
By Soibi Versatile
Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has hit out at Manchester United his former club for the resigning of Cristiano Ronaldo. Ronaldo joined his former club after 12 years away from home. The former Real Madrid star left United in 2009 for a world record fee of £80m and went on to become the all time scorer of Real Madrid putting 450 balls in the net during his 9 years spell at Santiago Bernabue before departing for Juventus in a £99m deal winning 5 trophies with the bionconneri before his sensational return to Old Trafford.
Cristiano Ronaldo who was poised to join rivals Manchester City to play under Pep Guardiola pulled out of the deal to make his return after a phone call from Sir Alex Ferguson. United signed Ronaldo again for £13m enjoying a windfall in the sale of his jersey with the club couping back the amount spent on him in a space of two weeks. Ronaldo shone in his re-debut by scoring twice against the magpies in September 2021. However with a drop in the teams total performance critics had come out of their shell to lay blame on Ronaldo for the club’s decline. Gary Neville and some ex players have been critical of the man who holds the record for most goals scored in football history.
Wayne Rooney, 36 a former teammate to Ronaldo has been the latest to bad-mouth the Portuguese having said in November that some players were throwing their arms in the air and complaining during matches. Rooney like other legends have thrown a plethora of allegations against Ronaldo which in truth are fictitious and dubious probably triggered by jealousy or bitterness.
Despite being 37 years of age Ronaldo since his return has been Manchester United’s top scorer in both the Premier league and the Champions league. Ronaldo has 6 goals in 7 games in Europe and was responsible for Manchester United finishing top of their group in the Champions league despite shambolic displays in several Champions league games.
In the league Ronaldo has been Manchester United’s top scorer with 12 goals. In fact he ranks 3rd in the goal rankings in English Top flight this season with the least number of games to his name. However that has not saved him from being victimized by former players who themselves were finished and totally ineffective at his age.
Of all the Premier league strikers Ronaldo has the most goals against the Top 6 teams at 7, two more than serial golden boot winner Harry Kane and 3 more than top scorer Mohammed Salah.
Ronaldo has also been credited with the most match winning goals in Europe’s top 5 leagues this season. For Manchester United Ronaldo has been named Premier League player of the month once. Champions league player of the week twice. Manchester United player of the month thrice and has won the Manchester United goal of the month thrice this season. In fact Manchester United have not won a match in which the Portuguese did not start or feature.
No Manchester United player has more personal achievements than him this season yet Wayne Rooney has laid the blame on Ronaldo’s feet and asked the club to replace him if they want to move forward. Ronaldo has been accused of the club’s league position at 7th with reference to last season where they finished 2nd. But the club’s failure to win trophies four years before Ronaldo arrived a second time has not been talked about in relation to Ronaldo’s trophy haul since departing.
Manchester United last won the Champions league in 2008 with Ronaldo winning the Golden boot award that year. In Ronaldo’s absence from Manchester United the Portuguese has won four more Champions league titles 22 more trophies in relation to Manchester United 12 and four more Best Player of the Year awards. In Ronaldo’s last 3 years before rejoining United Ronaldo had won 5 club trophies including two league titles with Juventus and the Nations league with PORTUGAL. In fact Cristiano Ronaldo won the Golden Boot of last year’s edition of the European Championship and also won the Golden boot in Seriea A and best player in Seria A. In contrast when was the last time a Manchester United player won the best player of top scorer of any competition?
Prior to Ronaldo’s return to Manchester United he had never lost a game as captain in a club side match spanning 59 matches but in his return to Old Trafford lost 1-0 to Wolves in January. In the Champions league Cristiano Ronaldo had never been knocked out by a Diego Simeone team. But Manchester United were kicked out of the Champions league this year by a Diego Simeone team. If anyone should blame each other for being a bad luck it is Ronaldo who should blame this current Manchester United not the other way round. The likes of Neville who apparently was dumb until his friend Ole got sacked or has a veil over his face that prevents him from seeing the school boy defending from LukeShaw and Harry Macguire
Most of the criticism of Ronaldo has been his defensive abilities not his scoring side and that is ridiculous considering he plays as a striker. Ronaldo in contrast to other younger players in Manchester United does more defensive work but the pundits and talkatives like Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney would be blind to see or too daft to reason. Rooney perhaps has failed to realise that the Manchester United defense has been horrible this season and Harry Macguire has also been booed by the fans during International duty because of his horrible defensive blunders. But the likes of Rooney and Gary Neville probably have been too busy or blinded by English bias to see. Unlike in the case of Messi where the Argentinian is 97th on the goals log in League 1. Cristiano is up there with the best players like Mohammed Salah and Harry Kane and Diogo Jota.
Rooney’s Feud with Ronaldo
Rooney had been involved in a world cup chaos with Cristiano Ronaldo during the quarter finals game between England and Portugal after he got sent off for a horrible tackle. Rooney blamed his sending off on Ronaldo and it almost caused the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United in 2006 had it not been for the intervention of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Rooney’s fall in the world Cup led to Ronaldo’s rise with the Portuguese winning the PFA Player of the year both Young and Main the following season. Ronaldo became Manchester United’s top scorer, penalty taker and the golden boy of the team from 2006-2009. After Ronaldo had won the Balon Dor in 2008 Wayne Rooney was asked if he thought Ronaldo was the best player in the world he clearly said Ronaldo was not the best to him. Sir Alex Ferguson in his autobiography had snubbed Wayne Rooney when mentioning the world class players he managed but mentioned Cristiano Ronaldo as the most gifted he ever managed.
It is Wayne Rooney’s way to express jealousy over players doing better than him. In 2013 he wanted to leave the club because of Robin Van Persie had become the main man of the team, was earning same wage as him (£250k) and was getting praises for leading the team to their 20th Premier League title.
Had it not been for the retirement of Sir Alex Ferguson Rooney was going to sign for Chelsea a rival team. In 2010 Rooney had held Manchester United by the balls after he had one year left on his contract by demanding a wage rise from £100k to £250k or he was going to sign for their noisy neighbors Manchester City. Rooney also accused his team mates of being average despite playing three European finals between 2008 and 2011 but now complains of players throwing tantrums when not given good passes when in a position to score. In his latest book the Derby County Manager had blasted Ronaldo for being annoying and currently not as good as his was but still annoying.
Ronaldo was everything Rooney would have wanted to be aside that he was not as talented as the Portuguese or professional as he was, with numerous controversial cases attributed to his name during the course of his career. At 29 Rooney was a finished player who could barely raise his leg to walk or run normally on the pitch but still demanded a £300k deal and signed with a clause that no player should earn more than him.
Rooney exemplifies selfishness and envy in football. He exemplifies unprofessionalism with his numerous drink driving charges and improper conduct charges during the course of his career but obviously cannot sleep well at night because someone who is older than him kept himself fit and is still scoring goals at 37 and being praised by the fans. Rooney represents the scandalous nature of a professional footballer if not anything and cannot be a role model for many unlike Ronaldo whom he constantly throws shades at with thousands of fellow players calling Ronaldo their idol and mimicking his goals celebration. If anyone cannot criticise Ronaldo it is Rooney and whatever bitterness that blindfolds his thoughts and reasoning in the midst of an overwhelming contradiction to his claims further emphasizes he has not moved on from the reality that he was simply overshadowed by the greatest goals scorer in football history.
It is Ronaldo’s decision to continue or stay in football, he has earned the right to decide that, he has earned the right to longevity after an extraordinary professional conduct and self care and the likes of Gary Neville and Wayne Rooney who at 29 and 32 respectively were already finished cannot decide his fate neither can their awful managerial records marred by relegation battles define his future.
Ronaldo has a contract with Manchester United and not any Ex -player or pundit whether Gary Neville or Wayne Rooney are in a moral position to decide for Manchester United what they do with their star man. Ronaldo has just qualified his nation for a historic 5th World Cup and holds the record for most world cup qualifiers goals by a European player. At 37 most of Ronaldo’s mates are taking coaching courses but the Portuguese has said he will play well into his 40’s it will take many more years for the likes of Wayne Rooney and Gary Neville to bleed over his longevity in football.

Rooney , if you like hate and talk rubbish from now till the world ends, Manchester United fans worldwide will always pick CR7 over you.... . Lately he's been talking trash up and down, come do am if e easy. Yeye dey smell .
obembet: CRISTIANO RONALDO has one last shot at World Cup glory and football immortality after Portugal saw off North Macedonia to book their place in Qatar.
The World Cup remains the only competition Ronaldo has played in yet failed to win.
Ronaldo assist bruno Fernandes for a first-half opener And Fernades bagged his brace with 25 minutes remaining to become the hero and upstage the five-time Ballon d’Or winner on the night. At 37, this winter’s showpiece will be Ronaldo’s fifth, and surely last, World Cup.
Igboid: Some Igbos opine that maybe supporting Amaechi will bring Ikwerre back to the Igbo fold. But this is a very flawed perception. One of key reasons Ikwerre rejected Igbo tag post civil war is their conviction that they are better off without the Igbo tag. In other words, they felt they are stronger in Nigeria when they stand alone. And to some extent, considering how Igbo political fortunes suffered post civil war, their gamble have somewhat paid off. If we allow one of them become president by cunningly claiming he is one of us when we know he isn't, we would only have strengthened Ikwerre resolve that they are better without us. I mean why should they become Igbo when they can emotionally manipulate politically blind Igbos into allowing them reap the benefits of being Igbo while still retaining their non Igbo and even Igbophobic stand? Infact Igbo detractors would happily support Amaechi and Ikwerre people to hijack Igbo presidency because they too know deep inside that Ikwerres are Igbophobic and are by no means Igbo. We would indeed be the real losers in such arrangement and the joke would be on us. Supporting an Ikwerre president in Amaechi will not bring them closer to the Igbo, it will only feed their vain ego and overbloated sense of importance. We would have scored own goal when we do so.
Finally, if as an Igbo you find Amaechi a worthy presidential candidate, please do support him by all means, but never do so because you think he and Ikwerre are Igbos, because they are not. Always be clear that Amaechi and Ikwerre are non Igbos, and that Amaechi presidency will be as good as Tinubu, Atiku or GEJ presidency as far as Ndiigbo are concerned. Please do note that there are some proud Igbo groups in SS, but Ikwerre is not one of them. Any Ikwerre person that think otherwise should take his petition to his Eze back home who can then take him to Ogbakor Ikwerre to clear him. This Ikwerre deception has gone on for too long and must now stop.
RedboneSmith: They've started saying Oba gha to kpere in Ogba, too? Changing the title of the ruler from Eze Ogba to Oba wasn't enough, I see.
Lol. Even other "Igboid" kingdoms that are far more Benin-like in their political structure than Ogba haven't gone quite as far yet. The complex is strong in these ones.
You know I have a very tight and good friend from Omoku, everything about him reeks Igbo down to his name. He still questions his folks and few elders to explain how they came about this talk of them not being Igbo came about.
KreativSquare: After Athletico Madrid dump Manchester united of the champions league in the round of 16.
During an interview, Athletico Madrid's coach Deigo Simeone claims "Ronaldo is just an average player without service and today's game proved that again. We ended his season in mid-March".
VULCAN: You have to learn to read a bit more slowly so you can comprehend.
It was Ronaldo who called himself and Tom Brady GOATS.
If you know Tom Brady he would never puff himself up like that.
That guy is very humble.
Well, my bad, but he didn't dispute nor refute the claims of him being the GOAT of American Football. The video of both of em talking is even on his Instagram with the goat emoji tagged on it, atleast that's an affirmation from his own side (team). As for CR7 using the term to describe himself, it's also accepted, considering what he has accomplished in the game.
Tom Brady calls CR7 my fellow GOAT and people think it's only because of his performance against Tottenham and not because of his consistency for the past 20 years?
paulolee: wat about the rival of their fave? is he banned from winning the award n catching up with Leo??
Is it not you again ? I have told you before, you are not worth arguing or discussing football with at all... You know I also saw on one thread, where you said Messi spearheaded the Remontada, I laughed my ass out, cos everyone in the world knows that was the Neymar and Iniesta's show. . So guy, rest !
Boss469: The organisers of the Ballon d’Or Award, France Football, have announced that the 2022 edition of the award ceremony will take place in October.
This is a break from the November/December period they usually hold the ceremony.
They also announced a shift from the January to December calendar, a period during which the performance of footballers is viewed to determine nominees.
According to them, the award will now be issued on the basis of the performance of players during the classic football season, which is from August to July.
“No more January to December,” they tweeted.
“The #ballondor will now be awarded on the basis of a classic football season: August to July! No worries, the Qatar World Cup will count for the 2023 award. Less global but… much more demanding.”
They also announced a change to the process of selecting Ballon d’Or jury members.
The process of selection for the #ballondor jury members is changing. Ballon d’Or Jury > journalists from country part of the FIFA top 100 ranking. Women’s Ballon d’Or Jury > journalists from country part of the FIFA top 50 ranking,” the tweet read.
Paris St-Germain and Argentina international player, Lionel Messi, won the 2021 Men’s edition of the award while Alexia Putellas of Barcelona won the Women’s edition.
PSG and Italian international goalkeeper, Gianluigi Donnarumma, won the Yashin Trophy in 2021.
obembet: Cristiano Ronaldo was left raging after Bruno Fernandes did not pass to him as Manchester United looked to break the deadlock early on in their 0-0 draw against Watford.
It was a frustrating afternoon for Ronaldo as the Red Devils dropped points for the third time in five Premier League games.
The 37-year-old had a goal ruled out for offside, hit the post and struck team-mate Anthony Elanga with a goal-bound shot.
However one opportunity he did not get was in the 12th minute, as compatriot Fernandes ignored the chance to pass to him.
Fernandes was through on goal with only Ben Foster to beat and if he had squared it to his right then Ronaldo would have had an open goal to finish in to.
Yet the midfielder decided to go for goal himself and saw his effort saved by Foster, who became the oldest visiting goalkeeper to keep a clean sheet against Manchester United at Old Trafford in the Premier League.
It was one of eight shots that Fernandes had throughout the afternoon as his wasteful finishing summed up United's troubles. Ralf Rangnick's side are still fourth in the table, but are only two points ahead of Arsenal who have played three fewer games.
'Our job as coaches is to help the team to create enough chances,' Rangnick said after the draw. 'If we'd only had two or three against Watford, we could ask ourselves why.
'But the number of chances we had, they have to be enough to win the game. We need to be sharper in front of goal. If you miss that many, it's difficult to win.'
This is not the first time a scene like this is happening. Do I blame the players ? No. I blame the coaches and the board, who see all of these and not correct them. When it continues to happen, the result is that you end up being away from the top 4. They should continue.
Ghostwon6511: I want to correct some of the ethnic rhetoric which are being spewed right here by the Igbo bkkay (southeast) and the yoruba yournemesis (southwest):
1) all clames of migration from Ife are mythical and false: indeed, ife was a small village until 1912 when the British started urbanising it, the palace of the ooni of Ife who used to be called Oni of ifa in the early colonial era was built around the 1930's-1940's ... The Oni of IFA was referred to by the British as a spiritual leader and not as a king...Everything you hear about Ife these days are just myth created by politicians.
2) it is actually not possible to date bronze with carbon14, so the dating on that Igbo bronze is a fraud.
3) Anioma are not Igbo, they are Anioma, Igbo as a tribe was created by the British by uniting many small neighbouring tribes in order to make it easier and less costly to rule them. The first precolonial maps of West Africa show Anioma as being part of Benin kingdom.
4) there is no way to know where people migrated from unless the migration is recent (migration written about by eyewitnesses), so any "researcher" making claims of migration from here and there is doing a guess work at best.
5) Delta-state has nothing to do with the southeast, in the precolonial era, Delta state was a sub-territory of Benin Kingdom, then when Benin Kingdom lost a war to Britain, it was devided into several provinces by the British, much of Delta state was part of the warri-province, the rest of it was part of Benin-province, then later on the political game in colonial Nigeria put Benin-province and Warri-province in western Nigeria in which the British had groomed their subservient people (yoruba) to take over political leadership. Huge parts of western Benin had been flooded with freed slaves right from 1824 (if I remember the dates correctly) and the flooding continued well into the colonial era, those slaves were subservient and grateful to their white masters and their white masters propped them up for political leadership, their name was yoruba which was borrowed from the kingdom of oyo.
OJEEMAH: Truth is not when it is twisted to suits your narrative.
I don't take the contributions and corrections of people with double standard serious especially when it comes to understanding life.
And the last time i checked, my fave had more golden boots, awards and trophies.
i ask again, how many times have you questioned your fellow Penaldians for derailing Messi threads with Ronaldo related issues?
or what you said is best suited for Messi fans alone??
It's not about my narrative, it's about what is clear for both parties. I don't reply everyone because alot seem to be very dull. Even when you made an error, I didn't chide you for it , I only asked that you reconfirm. Go and check your history again, Messi had more international penalties 18-16 . So you mentioning more golden boot, awards(questionable ones included ), trophies is what I don't understand ?
OJEEMAH: How you decide to interpret my post is your damn business and I am unapologetic and owe you no explanation.
Meanwhile, how many times have you questioned your fellow Penaldians for derailing Messi related thread with Ronaldo this and that, Mr Mind reader?
If you haven't, isn't that hypocrisy??
Yes it is my business to interperete it the way I like which is the truth , But my contribution and corrections helps you and your likes understand life better which I know you are learning from. This is not the first time we are having a "friendly" exchange. Penaldians ? Well it would have held water If your fave was not even taking any at all .. last time I checked, he holds the highest on international level.
OJEEMAH: Oshe mind reader.......... but i can't remember explaining my intent to you.
Ally?
Quit the assumption bro
It's no assumption, it's fact . Topic says 37 records of CR7 to honour him on his birthday, but insecurity made you write 24 of your fave. Did you counter any from the 37 ? No ! Feb 5 and June 24th are they the same thing ? No ! So what was your reason for posting yours , if not to undermine what Jokerman wrote . Are you expecting me to explain what ally means or who your ally is on this particular thread ?
