Sports / Re: Ronaldo's 'only Ambition Is To Finish His Career With More Ballon D'or- Ferre by Ofunwa111: 11:11pm On Nov 28, 2021
Insidenaija:
Cristiano Ronaldo's greatest ambition is to retire having won the Ballon d'Or more times than his long-time rival Lionel Messi, according to the chief of the award Pascal Ferre, who hands out the trophy every year.

Ronaldo is a five-time Ballon d'Or winner and has been nominated the most with a record 17 times but remains one behind Messi, who has won six times.

The Argentine is tipped to be the frontrunner for this year's award, which would take his tally to seven, but Ferre revealed Ronaldo is desperate to top his arch-rival, Messi.

'Ronaldo has only one ambition and that is to retire with more Ballon d'Or than Messi and I know because he told me,' Ferre said, via Marca.

Ahead of the ceremony next Monday, this year's winner was reportedly leaked earlier this week with Messi scooping up the coveted accolade once again, via talkSPORT.

Karim Benzema, who was found guilty in his sex-tape blackmail case this week, has reportedly come in second, while Robert Lewandowski finished third.

Messi won the award at the last ceremony in 2019, while Ronaldo has not secured the prize since 2016. The PSG forward was preceded by Luka Modric, who, according to Ferre, 'cried like a child' when he called to tell the Croatian he had won.

The French journalist believes revealing the winner at the gala is part of the magic of the award which is why their identity must be kept secret until the deal day.

'We are very careful. The winner of the Ballon d'Or is a big secret. I don't think there is a comparable situation in sport,' he said.

Ronaldo was in the running this year, making the 11-man shortlist, but is not considered a favourite after his poor performance last year.

Sports / Re: It’s Abuse!’ – Michael Owen Slams Manchester United’s Use Of Cristiano Ronaldo by Ofunwa111: 11:01pm On Nov 28, 2021
Icandream:
Manchester United ’s use of Cristiano Ronaldo borders on
‘abuse’, according to Michael Owen.
The 36-year-old was left on the bench for United’s 1-1 draw
against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday and he
stormed down the tunnel without visiting the away end after
the full-time whistle.
Ronaldo was given less than half an hour against the Blues
and he cut a lonely figure when he did come on, with Michael
Carrick selecting three defensive midfielders against Thomas
Tuchel’s side.
The former Real Madrid man has bagged ten goals in 15
appearances for the Red Devils since returning to Old Trafford
and he’s saved the side on a number of occasions, most
notably with goals against Villarreal and Atalanta.
But Owen believes that Ronaldo is often left to run the side’s
attack and says the lack of support he gets is ‘abusive’.

Asked whether he’d like to play in United’s team, Owen told
Premier League Productions: ‘No you can’t! We were at Old
Trafford for the City game the other day and all of a sudden
it’s just exactly the same they leave Cristiano Ronaldo up
front on his own. That’s almost abuse!
‘Having someone that good in your team and then playing
everyone defensively and saying ‘That’s alright we’ll just hope
he nicks a goal’ he’ll end up being average.
‘If you leave him and all these good players or just two of
them playing and everyone else defending they’ll start putting
in bad performances because they’ve got nobody to pass to,
they’ve got no options, they’re chipping the ball form 50 yards
away. They need other players to come up and help them.
‘It’s almost abusing the good players they’ve got and that’s
the last thing you’ve got to do. If anything, expose the rubbish!
Find ways of getting world class players in your team, get
Pogba, get Fernandes, get Ronaldo, get them as best as you
can.
‘If you let a few goals in because Bailly’s not great or Wan-
Bissaka or whoever it may be then fine you can replace them
but at the minute because they’re nervous and scared they
just bulk up with sitting midfielders and more defenders and
abuse the great players up front leaving half of them on the
bench and one or two to play, they’ve got no chance!

Ralf Rangnick is expected to be named interim manager this
week, although Michael Carrick could remain in charge for
Thursday’s clash against Arsenal.
The German has agreed to take charge for the remainder of
the season before taking on a consultancy role for a further
two years.
United’s squad have been informed that Rangnick will be
taking interim charge.

He couldn't have said it any better. If nothing is done about this on time, Man Utd will be playing 6-3-1. Defenders can't do their job well these days .... Smh .

Maseev:
Former Chelsea manager, Frank Lampard, has changed his stance in the Lionel Messi vs Cristiano Ronaldo debate.

Lampard also picked Messi ahead of Ronaldo. However, he is now tilting towards the Manchester United forward, because of his big game performances.

Speaking to Gary Neville on The Overlap, the former England midfielder stated that the Portugal captain has the edge because of his semi-final and final performances.

According to him, Ronaldo has proved his game-winning ability since his return to England.

Sports / Re: Scholes: Pogba Will Need To Be Babysat in United's Midfield Until He Is 35 by Ofunwa111: 7:20am On Nov 03, 2021
obembet:
Paul Scholes has criticised Paul Pogba for being 'away with the fairies' during Manchester United's 2-2 draw with Atalanta on Tuesday evening.

The French international struggled to perform during Manchester United's fixture in Italy and was ultimately hooked off for Nemanja Matic in the second half.

Reflecting on Pogba's performance, Scholes said the Manchester United midfielder would need to be babysat 'until he is 35' as he has the tendency to do 'stupid stuff' on the pitch.

Speaking after the game, Scholes said: 'Pogba needs somebody on him all the time. Somebody there that he totally respects, he needs experienced people behind him.

'How old he? 28? He's a really experienced player. But he's one of them that will get to 35 and be exactly the same.

'He'll still be doing the stupid stuff where he's stud rolling the ball, holding people off showing how strong and skilful he is.

'The biggest thing with Paul is his concentration. He goes away with the fairies at times.

'You think of the Juventus team he played in, where he was brilliant and was why we signed him.

'The experience around him - [Andrea] Pirlo, [Giorgi] Chiellini, [Leonardo] Bonucci, [Gianluigi] Buffon, an aggressive manager. He will need that treatment until he's 35.'

Rio Ferdinand added his thoughts on Pogba, claiming the midfielder had failed to live up to expectations in a Manchester United shirt.

He said that the French man does not look as stimulated for the Red Devils as he does for his country.

Ferdinand said: 'Paul [Pogba] would agree that he hasn’t delivered to the level he would expect of himself in a Manchester United shirt.

'He is not getting the international jolt he gets with France. Maybe he needs that fear of not playing if he isn't performing.'

Ferdinand went on to agree with Scholes by saying Pogba needs to be pushed by his team-mates. He also said that he felt the responsibility should fall onto the shoulders of Cristiano Ronaldo.

Ferdinand told Scholes: 'I can't think of anyone else other than Cristiano that would get a hold of Paul and going "I'll be on to you half time."

'Maybe it's a generational thing, maybe it's different now. In our changing room these conversations would be going on.'

Scholes and Ferdinand's comments came not only after he was hooked off against Atalanta but after he was shown a red card against Liverpool.

The Frenchman was sent off in the 60th minute of the game after he lunged into a two-footed tackle on Naby Keita with his side 5-0 down at Old Trafford.

Pogba was initially booked but, after a VAR check, Taylor sent him off on the hour mark.

Sportsmail previously revealed that Pogba had apologised to his team-mates for his red card at Old Trafford, though did not say anything to Solskjaer after the loss.

Speaking of the red card at the time, Scholes told Premier League Productions: 'Paul Pogba coming on to the pitch at half-time to try and help the team and maybe get a little respectability about it, tries to stand on the ball, tries to show how strong he is in the middle of the pitch… gives the goal away.

'Then later on gets sent off with a ridiculous tackle. Now you're 5-0 down with 10 men. You'd have to think, if Ole's still a manager there, will we see Pogba again in a United shirt?

'He's caused mayhem over the last couple of years. Everyone knows what a talent he is, everybody trusts him, every manager trusts him, tried to give him his head and let him be the player he's been.

'But with all the commotion, not signing his contract, almost holding the club to ransom, and then he comes on and does something like that.

'It's not Ole's fault, don't get me wrong, but that's part of it which almost summed the United performance up today.

'Look, he probably will play [again] won't he? But I don't think they will be missing anything if he doesn't.

'He's had numerous chances, he keeps saying he lacks consistency, but that is just [a lack of] discipline and disrespect for your manager and your team-mates, what he's done today.'

He deserves to be called out. He's not a thinking coach. Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw, Sancho, playing badly. (Bruno, CR7) fatigue on this two was very obvious,, yet they were still on the pitch, while Telles, Bailey, Martial, Van Der beek, who could have done better, sat on the bench. Those on the bench might not be better than those on the pitch, but then again, they have got some qualities which could have helped out. .... Ole out , never rated him though .

EPL: Why I returned to Manchester United – Cristiano Ronaldo breaks silence

Cristiano Ronaldo has spoken for first time on his return to Manchester United as the club confirms his transfer.

Ronaldo said he returned to Old Trafford because Manchester United have always had a special place in his heart.

Early on Tuesday morning, Juventus confirmed that the Portugal international was moving to the former Premier League champions with United having agreed to pay €15million (£12.8m) plus €8m (£6.8m) in add-ons, payable over the course of the next five years.

Manchester United have also confirmed the re-signing of the 36-year-old after 12 years away.

Ronaldo said he is thrilled to be back at the club where he established himself as one of football’s greatest players.

“Manchester United is a club that have always had a special place in my heart, and I have been overwhelmed by all the messages I have received since the announcement on Friday,’ said Ronaldo in an Instagram post.

“I cannot wait to play at Old Trafford in front of a full stadium and see all the fans again.

“I’m looking forward to joining up with the team after the international games, and I hope we have a very successful season ahead.”

Last time I checked, the current top five leagues in Europe according to latest UEFA coefficient are EPL, Bundesliga, La Liga, Serie A and the Portuguese league. So much for the French league.

Messi and Ronaldo are two amazing phenomena that should not be compared, but rather appreciated and enjoyed.

That at 36,he still chose a difficult league like the EPL (instead of running to the MLS) says it all. Respect!

This signing is a double-edged sword for OGS. He cannot have any tenable excuse for another season without any trophy. His sack letter is on the table, waiting to be signed.

Insidenaija:
Former Juventus president, Giovanni Cobolli Gigli, has said the club made a mistake by signing Cristiano Ronaldo, Newspremises reports.

Gigli also claimed Ronaldo is hindering the club’s efforts to win back the Serie A title and wants him sold before the summer transfer window closes.

Ronaldo joined Juve from Real Madrid in a €100million transfer before the 2018/2019 campaign.

The 36-year-old is now into the final year of his contract.

But Gigli, who was Juve’s president between 2006 and 2009, told SerieANews: “I’ve always been honest: signing Ronaldo was a mistake. It’s impossible to recoup the investment and it will remain that way.

“He’s a great player, but I have to be honest – the sooner he leaves, the better for him and for Juventus.

“I hope that [Juve head coach] Massimiliano Allegri knows how to continue using him like he did against Udinese. That is, with intelligence and when the game is in progress.

“Ronaldo hampers Juventus’ attack. Without him, they can do excellent things in collective terms.”

Leaving it simply as Igbo will make everyone keep guessing. To have narrowed it down to a particular tribe would have been disappointing and Reno knows it.

Even if I know such a tribe, I wouldn't say because Edo see everyone in Delta and by extension south south as brothers and sisters. You should have first insisted that Reno mentioned the tribe before you and your co travellers start claiming that Reno was referring to the Ikas and Ndokwas.

And we have been asking him since he made that post to mention the name of this minority 200,000 people and he has kept quiet. He said they speak a mixed language that has Igbo, Edo and Portuguese words. Mention their name and location na, so we can go there and study them, but no, he cannot.

I wonder how such a mixed language would exist in this our Delta and be spoken by 200,000 people and no one knows about it, except one Nigerian living in America.

I believe by now you should already know this twister and fake Bini boy, who expects everyone in Nigeria to come from Bini. He and Reno should mention the people who speak the language, scholars will go check them out and study them, if it is true, we can then know he is speaking facts.
