The crises did not start the day the russians responded, do you remember the South Ossertians sent their women and children away almost a week before the russian response. everyone was preparing for the battle, you don't expect the russians not to prepare when they see trouble brewing, ofcourse the russians will have the georgian troop movement in their sight all the time.

During the last crises, south ossertian refugees fled to russia, while georgian refugees fled into georgia. that should tell you where each party want to belong. People should be free to belong where they choose
