The problem many people have with thinking outside the box in this context is the amount of sharks and crocodile ready to separate you from your money, which is why you see a lot of people focus more on capital preservation than even the interest. For many people, the interest is just an add-on, they are more interested in the fact that at the end of the tenor when they need their money, they know when to find it. Outside that particular box, the uncertainties are too many to mention. ukay2: Very Apt.
That is what is really playing now.
So much liquidity in the system. ...FGN is borrowing at a very low rate now to service the high rates they alrady borrowed. Also the FGN is selling crude at high price of over $60 per barrel
This low NTB rates may continue till close to 2023 election except crude oil prices crashes below 30 dollars per barrel.
Also the yield on FGB bonds is fast depreciating, making investors to look for any available low risk portfolios. The PFAs are chasing with their idle trillions of naira to any available low risk investment we little investors may consider as better yield.
Stock market may be alternative, but when newbies may entere into stock market; not knowing how to dine with men in blacks, may get their capital funds burnt out
So is really a hard time, but in all of these things, we shall overcome.
It's a good time to think outside the box. .. |

Explain what you mean. Is it that you have ecobank shares and you are yet to collect your dividends or you have an account with Ecobank and want dividends of your shares from other companies paid into that account. Credobee: I took time to get someone to forward mandate forms from four different registrars....... After filling the forms and attaching passports to them........ Sorry man, my small experience is that some people (fellow Nigerians) do not believe you have a right to what you have and do everything in their power to get a share, the same way they see government money (national cake) is the same we believe that we can get a slice of your money beyond salaries. The boldness is even frightening. One guy who has been owing me for a business where 100% of the money was money was mine while he only had to oversee the process had the nerve last quarter of last year to be suggesting I come and invest another 2m is a new venture so that from there he will get the money to pay me back. Of course I did not bulge even though he sounded convincing. Assuming I did bulge and I invested and got bitten the second time, my self esteem would have been badly hit, not even the money sef. Nigerian banks are the only entity that has successfully reduced the rate if stealing from them, even though you still hear of bankers committing crimes, it would have been worse as a daily occurrence since the money enters everyday considering the kind of people we are. OgogoroFreak: Do you think the money we invest was plucked from a tree? Majority of us already have businesses and so occupied already. If we can still make guaranteed money with our excess money, without being involved, why should a reasonable person reject that? Haven't you heard of multiple streams of income?
I have closed down two branches of my business(porthercourt and Benin). Despite my very strict principles, these guys still device smarter ways of stealing from me. Truck driver transporting goods to those states claimed he was robbed goods worth 60M nowhere to be found! Thanks to the Police who got the idiot to confess. We were able to recover some. The manager of the Benin branch was also involved. Enough is enough |

I have read this story before. It also reminds me of another novel I read way back where some guys used bank money in their possession to create artificial scarcity for a particular stock only to dump all of them on bulls at the last minute. They then returned the bank money and shared the profit. Suddenly many investment houses and ideas with mouth watering are showing up, many of which will lead to deep regrets in a few months from now. ibechris: *Monkey Business*
A lot of monkeys lived near a village.
One day a merchant came to the village to buy the monkeys.
He announced that he would buy the monkeys for £100 each.
The villagers thought he was mad.
They thought how can somebody buy stray monkeys for £100 each?
Still, some people caught a few monkeys and gave them to the merchant and he gave them £100 for each monkey.
This news spread like wildfire and more people caught more monkeys to sell to the merchant.
After a few days, the merchant announced that he would buy monkeys for £200 each.
Even the lazy villagers now ran around to catch the remaining monkeys and sold them for £200 each.
Then the merchant announced that he will buy monkeys for £500 each.
The villagers started to lose sleep! They caught six or seven monkeys, which was all that was left, and got £500 for each one.
The villagers were waiting anxiously for the next announcement.
Then the merchant said he was going home for a week and when he returned he would buy monkeys for £1,000 each.
He asked his employee to take care of the monkeys he bought.
The merchant went home and the villagers were very sad as there were no more monkeys left for them to sell at £1,000 each.
Then the employee told them he will secretly sell them monkeys for £700 each.
This news spread like wildfire. Since the merchant will buy monkeys for £1,000 each, there is a £300 profit for each monkey.
The next day the villagers made a queue near the monkey cage.
The employee sold all the monkeys for £700 each. The rich bought monkeys in big lots. The poor borrowed money from money lenders and also bought monkeys.
The villagers took care of the monkeys and waited for the merchant to return.
But nobody came.
They ran to the employee.
But he had already left too.
The villagers then realised that they had bought the useless stray monkeys for £700 each and were unable to sell them.

Which storm? I struggle to follow your logic here. Will government not find it easier to pay this lower rate compared to the 15% previous rates? That people are still over subscribing suggest that people have not yet found a reliable alternative. Also, I don't think bond will still be as high as 12%, government have seen that they can get low interest loans, they will pursue it to the end. I expect bonds to play around 8 to 9% for now, could be wrong though. TotoNaRubber: People are still over subscribing, look at the 91 days bills with over subscription of 10 times even at last stop rate of 3 percent.
I read today the Naija govt plans to raise N510 billion and issue a bond this January on a 5 year period at 12 percent, I believe that will be a better offer compared to these TBills 6 percent. On the contrary, a huge storm is coming, one way or the other the govt. may find it difficult with repayments, the Naija govt. spending is out of control, the economic solution for the ministers instigated by the former UK based Finance minster is to "Borrow borrow and borrow", by the time subscription reduces drastically for certain investment then the previous investors who are supposed to be paid with money from new investors need to start worrying about their money, it will then be a legal MMM.
Once an investment stops attracting new investors, then there is need to worry but for now there seem to be lots of investors chasing Tbills even at the low rates, let us keep our eyes open. |
