Your broadcasting is not to boast but to prove that freewill giving works. So tell us, how much did you give ? grin
You have totally lost the concept of what freewill giving is about...

So it's about what I expect in return from God that should be my reason for giving?

Smh

Ladies and gentlemen of nairaland, there you have it! One of the charlatans who have commercialized the gospel. For them, freewill giving/tithing/firstfruit is about how much you can get back from God in return...

How much did you give to the church last year? Please don't mention that dirty N100 note o grin
And what is my reward for publicly broadcasting how much I gave to the church or to the needy?

If you really read this part of the Bible, then you should know it's not even Christlike to ask this manner of question;

Matthew 6 v 2-4;

2 Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.

3 But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:

4 That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

As a Taylor, I will pay tithe of groundnut and cassava because that is what the church will use to fuel its bus. grin

Please ignore their stupidity.
To address your ignorance, the maintenance of the Temple in the Old Testament was through a monetary levy imposed by God on Israelite males aged 20 and above. It was never through tithes (which was foodstuff eaten by the tithers, levites, widows and strangers)

Exodus 30 v 13-16
13 This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.

14 Every one that passeth among them that are numbered, from twenty years old and above, shall give an offering unto the Lord.

15 The rich shall not give more, and the poor shall not give less than half a shekel, when they give an offering unto the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.

16 And thou shalt take the atonement money of the children of Israel, and shalt appoint it for the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; that it may be a memorial unto the children of Israel before the Lord, to make an atonement for your souls.

Despite reading this, I wonder how someone would conclude that tithes were used to finance the maintenance of the temple. Talk less of financing the church...even where there is no scriptural evidence to prove this!

It is a big shame you are confusing irrelevant scriptural facts for valid argument. In Mathew 23:23 Jesus only reordered that list containing tithe by putting the other items above tithe but didn't remove tithe at any point. Tithe idea can from God to Israelites in the old testament and Jesus only stressed the importance of other thing the pharisees where putting tithe ahead of.
And Matthew 23 v 23 mentioned tithe was a tenth of monetary income?

By the way, those other instructions were also a part of the Law. If the Law is abolished, why aren't you obeying those other instructions?
Christianity EtcRe: "Tithing"- The Accurate Teaching The Bible Gives. by OkaiCorne(m):
CodeTemplar:
You that can quote scripture why not tell us how the church was run.
As for the early church, everyone's needs were met through freewill giving. Examples of these were shown in;

Acts 4 v 32-37;
32 And the multitude of them that believed were of one heart and of one soul: neither said any of them that ought of the things which he possessed was his own; but they had all things common.

33 And with great power gave the apostles witness of the resurrection of the Lord Jesus: and great grace was upon them all.

34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,

35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

36 And Joses, who by the apostles was surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being interpreted, The son of consolation,) a Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,

37 Having land, sold it, and brought the money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

When Paul was also admonishing the Corinthian church on how to give in order to meet the needs of other churches;

2 Corinthians 9 v 7;

Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver

In the Old Testament, this was where God precisely asked for money to finance the needs of the Temple; This was not tithe, but a fixed amount levied on all male Israelites from age 20 and above

This clearly shows you how money was raised to maintain the Temple. And this requirement was specifically for the men of Israel.

Read your Bible, the condition on which you can sell your tithe for money and buy it back is...

"If the place of worship is too far for thee"

Or would you prefer I quote it for you?

if according to OP the law has been abolished, then will be bad if I disobeyed any of the laws like stealing, killing, and severing strange gods?

If Jesus in Mathew 23:23 didnt did em it fit to explicitly or openly abolish it then it isn't abolished. Tithe is very much alive.

If we because because pastors are living well then it means they are using our tithe carelessly and that warrants the stopping of tithe, then we might as well stop other things like charity because not everybody you do charity for uses it for productive thing's.
If according to you, the Law is not abolished. What is the basis for holding onto tithing and discarding these other parts of the Law?

Don't you know that money, agricultural produce, shields, swords, horses etc were part of what the people of old always take to war? The money was used to pay soldiers their wages and buy more supplies, while the agricultural produce served as food.
And Abraham's once in a lifetime tithe should be the reason Christians should part with a tenth of their monthly income?

U people always quote scriptures to suit ur explanation...u know how to use the death and resurrection of Jesus as a reference of what is to be abolished..please tell me why Jesus could forgive sins even though he had not paid the ultimate price on the cross?
Don't assume what Jesus didn't say...I don't care if u pay ur tithe or not...but what Jesus said clearly in Matt 23:23 to the Pharisees is that u can't leave other important thing and start shouting tithe..... he never said giving tithe wasn't important....or stop it
If Jesus didn't care about how much we gave..e won't rate the widow's higher than the giving of other rich men that gave out of abundance....we just keep overflogging this tithe issue...people will come and say it's crop they give in those days as tithe..
The era when most people farm is gone..some people now make casket...will the person carry casket to church as a way of giving...
But in that era, there was money...and God never asked for money as tithe. Where did God change the rules from crops and livestock to money?

Even those quoting Matthew 23 v 23 can see that Jesus spoke on tithing of agro-produce...mint, anise and cummin.

Later on, we could see that Judas betrayed Jesus for some pieces of silver.

The law stands, but as long as you can love God and your neighbor, you will be able to fulfill it.

Even after I explained Galatians 3:10 to you, you are still holding on to it.
1) If you insist that the Law stands. Please show us where exactly in the Mosaic Law God demanded money as tithes and firstfruits.

2) If you insist that the Law stands, and you break just one of it, you are under a curse as Galatians 3 v 10 clearly states.

Mind you, we are talking about over 600 Mosaic Laws here

And where was it mandated for Christians to part with 10% of their income as a sign of their love for God?

Where did Jesus or the Apostles command Christians to give tithes and firstfruits?

Did Matthew 25 v 31-46 or 2 Corinthians 9v7 mention anything on tithes and firstfruits?

You don't read the Bible or you sound like someone that has never read it before.

1. Adam and Eve tithed. The tree of the knowledge of good and evil was their tithe which they weren't to touch because it belong to God. The moment they failed in obeying that commandment, they became fallen and lost out. Through our the Bible, there has always been a concept of one thing that belongs to God which man must not touch. Read Joshua chapter 6 and 7 to see how God told them not to touch the treasure of the first city they conquered. Achan disobeyed and was stoned to death.

2. Must the Bible mention everything? Even the first fruit Abel gave, you haven't believed it, yet you want the Bible to write about how Adam and Eve went to the toilet.

3. Go and read the OP

4. They are the same thing just different names.

5. It is a must do or else you will be robbing God as he said in Malachi.

6. Believers are those who have faith in God. They existed in the old and new testament. If Paul could reference Abel in Hebrew 11:4 then it means he was totally in support of first fruit. Nowhere did the apostles says the old testament has been thrown away. All scriptures are inspired of God and profitable for doctrine. This includes the old testament.

2 Timothy 3:16
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Abel was a faithful believer. Abraham was the father of faith. We Christians today ought to do what our brothers in the faith did.
What?! The tree of knowledge of good and evil was Adam and Eve's tithe?

Just when I thought I've seen it all, another dubious theory comes up!

How does one tree out of the numerous trees in the garden represent tithe (one-tenth)?

Stop dodging logical questions.
What is logical about disobeying God's laid down instructions on tithing?

Does Matthew 23 v 23 talk about monetary tithing? Yes or No

Are you implying there was nothing like money when Jesus was talking in Matthew 23 v 23?

Wasn't it Judas that later betrayed Jesus for some pieces of silver?

Again I ask, was Matthew 23 v 23 talking about monetary tithes?

He encouraged it in Mathew 23 : 23.
I consider that an implicit demand.

its poor the way think, but I won't be hard on you
there weren't priests during time right.. fine, and the law introduced them as mediators between him and his people.. and many here are saying most of the doctrine in the old doesn't apply to them..hmm, so uhm why are pastors still relevant in Gods plan of salvation for mankind, isn't Christ the royal priest interceeding for us at the throne of grace..why was the mediation feature still relevant... why are most functions performed by priest of old still carried out by Christ and pastors till today if the old testament must be done away...
in the days of Abel, Enoch or Noah there wasn't a mediator.. yet but it is today necessary like we that pray to God through Christ
so if pastors are relevant.. and being constantly in the house of God..and performing their roles..aren't they entitled to the fruits of the tithe.
hmm, back then there was nothing like money..but here now it is the commodity in circulation that's of high value.. you don't give God what doesn't cost or is of value to you... if you don't want to give money use the money buy a house, cow etc and offer it to God
hmm
let's Love God with all our heart..n not part of it
its the holy spirit that has shared this with you all
law can't save from sin but grace...but remember Christ would say be a doer of God's commandments in love n fear.
gracias
Long story.

Give us biblical examples where;

1) God asked for money as first fruit.

2) Where Christians gave the Apostles first fruit.

.

hmm, and you foolishly think first fruit giving started under the law... pls bro remember Abel, Enoch and Noah in Genesis
And note. this is not about law..but the intentions from the heart to honor God even with that would cost you.
And the first fruit they gave was money abi?

Open the old or new testament and show us where God demanded money as "first fruit"

While at it...also show us the Priest or "man of God" Abel, Enoch and Noah gave their first fruits to...
