Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Did You Land Your Foreign Job? by okeniti: 3:16pm On Aug 07
Read about Upwork from a Zikoko article in 2020 during covid. Grateful for my last job (if you read my last post on joblessness) but financial situation meant I had to change things. Researched, setup my profile, got my first few gigs which supplemented my income from office which I did for a year and then 2022, a job I applied for which I didn't take serious I ended up landing has now put me in a situation where my former annual salary from my last job isn't even up to my monthly salary currently.

Understand you are competing globally, put in the work and I truly hope you that are reading this you land that forex paying gig that will ultimately change your life. I wish you the best.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Do Freelancers Pay Tax? by okeniti: 1:21pm On Dec 16, 2023
Say your the sole employee of your registered business doing freelancing work, for Lagos. You need your TIN and LIRS number. Now what you make gross per annum (as per conversion from USD Official rate to Naira), use the LIRS site calculator to find out how much you owe and divide by 12, each month.

Jobs/Vacancies / My Last Week Of Joblessness And I Hope It Will Be Yours Soon Too. by okeniti: 11:15am On Sep 15, 2019
Due to some unfortunate circumstances, i've been jobless for almost one year and seven months. My applications were rejected over 200 times, attended over 20 failed interviews (aptitude tests, meeting recruitment consultants etc ect not included). Finally, the application I sent weeks ago and interviews I attended this week was the one that returned the congratulations we would like you to join our team to resume this coming week email.

I've had some tough times in my life especially in the last few years but this period has definitely been one of the toughest in my life so far. There's many bad things about being jobless in these times but more specifically, there's not many more degrading things in this life than not being able to stand on one's own feet (the only person you can rely on is yourself with more money). Having to ask family members for transport/cv printing/haircut money, the travelling from place to place in harsh weather, nerves getting better of self, being laughed or insulted out of interviews by hiring staff who think they are demi-gods and sadly those who forgot that life is seasonal looking down on you when they really need to focus on themselves.

When the offer came through, and still now, I don't know how to feel. Whether to celebrate, even to smile has been hard. I'm grateful but I just don't think it's truly sunk in. The company is a multinational too which offers lots of room for growth, so long as you want it.

So what am I trying to say? I got interview invite last Friday for this role. That Sunday, I told myself this is the last week that i'm jobless. I'm going to speak what I want into existence, research company, brush up on my skills to handle technical tests and make it work; and it did work. For those with interviews this coming week, remember your thoughts and words become realities so try be positive. They called you so they believe in you so far. Be mindful of your thoughts, humble yourself, brush up on what you need to, looking good = feeling good and most importantly, making this work means I can get my life back on track.

To the people (including some of you here) who went out of their way to uplift me in some dark times with words and actions, I just want to say thank you, when my day arrives I will remember. And those who things are not going well in the job hunt, your time is coming very soon. Social media if used correctly can be a great place to find work. Hang in there and don't give up. Every loss is a lesson leading to something better, if you learn from it.

Makes sense, sound advice as a lot of artists (and people) are intentionally taught how to not keep money and forget tomorrow. If renting though out to people though, who is responsible for maintenance?

Badmod:
But look before you leap ooo...
We know you're making money and signing deals...
[b]But PJ maintenance no be small oo...
Anyway...you can buy and be renting it out to them Wizkid and psquare...

Sports / Re: Kanu Nwankwo Blasts Arsenal For Selling Alex Iwobi by okeniti: 2:40pm On Sep 10, 2019
I really did hope Iwobi would be a one club man but ultimately player has to make the best decision for his career, no matter the future outcome. I also feel he would still be at Arsenal if Mkhitaryan was let go of first. The mistake Arsenal made was selling Iwobi but letting Ramsey go for free, I'll never get my head around that.

I hear your point, but Yekini was from the masses. Now intentionally, we the masses are not taught on how to keep money. If me, you or anyone reading this are dashed N50,000,000 without knowing anything about keeping money chances are we could end up like Yekini. Guy bought a lot of joy to Nigerians in some dark times so pity/sadness will be felt.

I just learned something new, this is the content I signed up for. What advice can you offer if bitten by a snake though? Asking as snakes frequent my area from time to time.

eyeview:
My father told me that when they were kids, that it was a common thing to play with a python that has just swallowed a prey as it will be motionless for days till the food dissolves, that even kids can play with it. I guess the woman grew in the village too

Thanks. That hustler approach could be done away with though to be honest, as it encourages getting money quick instead of getting money long but again, my opinion.

bishopkay:

Very apt analysis you gave. If you need passive income then T bills could be your thing after all to even think about it you must be rich already Lol but for a young hustler, it's a no!

Check the investments section of Nairaland, some serious gems. If you want low risk and have a source income already then you can stick 3M in T Bills and use return as additional income source.

Start something like what please?
Travel / Re: How Young Nigerians Are Investing To Leave The Country by okeniti: 3:38pm On Sep 06, 2019
IMHO: There's nothing wrong with leaving Nigeria for abroad IF you have a feasible plan (skilled professional, further education, business opportunities etc etc). IF you have no plan and are those going to "hustle" and believe in the "Naija no dey carry last, i'm so rugged I can survive anywhere" then you are simply just going to waste your time and money (there are a very few exceptions to the rule which won't be you probably). And for those marrying for papers your actions will come back to bite you.

Nigeria is tough, no doubt. But to say you can't have some quality of life unless you are "rich" here just is not true.

If the recent events of happenings to Nigerians in Diaspora is not a loud enough alarm to tell you we need to make Nigeria work for us, then you are lost.
