bkuranga: Hey, welcome y'all
Here's me making my new cage in anticipation of arrival of my set of rabbits. It's a 6-bedroom semi-detached bungalow in a high-cost housing estate. LOL
Remember how I shared my journey into crop farming? It's a success.
And I'm trying my hand in something different again... Albeit with small experience as a kid (I had rabbits as a kid back then).
Hopefully, you will learn one or two things in making your DIY cage here too. Was that supposed to be a description for your apartment or the bunnies'? Lol |

okoroemeka: distance will be around 4-5 inches,in case if it rains and the manure can rise and flow to the delicate stems not a good thing, just use small bowl or manure that will fill one handful, yes you can use it to plant direct, reason we don't want to plant direct is rats, they will finish the seeds if we plant direct, even if you put poison they will still eat the seeds then die. |
Agriculture › Re: 500,000 Naira From One Plot Of Land In 90 Days. by okorookwus(m): 2:55am On Jun 25, 2021 |
okoroemeka: I have received feedbacks from many farmers around Nigeria and from these information I found out that planting cucumbers at 30cm spacing does not improve yield,I got very interesting feedbacks from 3 farmers that used 60cm spacing, one farmer is in Edo ,the other kwara and osun state, they managed to harvest 65-70 bags of cucumbers from 50 grams of seed I sent to them each, now this is were it gets interesting,we planted same 50grams but used 30cm spacing on the drip but just managed to get 30-40 bags,we are planning to prove beyond any doubt the effects of spacing on cucumber yield,we are preparing a site to receive 50 grams of seed at 60cm spacing,we will plant on Monday next week, production Target is 60 bags,we will update as usual with pictures, etc Time for another adventurous ride... You're an inspiration sir, May God increase you on every side. |
Agriculture › Re: Seeking To Buy Plumbing Materials by okorookwus(m): 12:51pm On May 25, 2021 |
Attit: How is 30cm the standard for cucumber? I am confused here. And how is 40cm automatically the standard for tomatoes when most farmers have realised 50cm and above is the game after heavy awareness that overpopulation is what is killing naive farmers. I see East West promoting 50cm heavily these days and one single row instead of 30cm and double rows for their determinate varieties. And people are getting it right. What if the varieties are the more robust than the ones East West has presently? That was my sermon many years back when the ex champs here used to put three or four rows on a bed because they were new into the mulching game, and they were managing cash. Lol.
I'm not saying 30cm cannot be used for cukes, but you can never see me use 30cm on my personal farm. Never and Never. I promote 50cm+ for tomatoes cos of the variety I use.
I think importers' default is 30cm, and thank God I was able to break the ritual of that 0.2mm very thin drip. Even, I know many are recycled materials and they dont even make it up to 0.2mm. Many are 0.1mm or 0.15mm, but trust chinese manufacturers and their Nigerian partners in crime who put 0.2mm on them.
Anyway, if it works for you, nice. But maybe you try 40cm or 50cm with cucumber, take your time and prune very well, fertigate properly and perhaps you will testify to higher yield than 30cm. You may give it a trial. There are only two categories of people that will read these 'epistles' you offload here on NairaLand... The First Category is the ones that read it to find faults and attack you with them, and the second is those that are in search of Truth/Knowledge and won't mind the heights or depths they go in search of it (such Knowledge can't be found on Shallow water nah... E no possible); Though you don't always spell the solutions, a little parable here.. A little riddle there, makes the Epistles and let the wise unravel the mystery behind success... We Love you Sir, keep up the good work. |

kennethfranc: Happy Sunday to you all I tried my best to update the thread on Friday (@exactly 6weeks) but routine activities held me back but since today is Sunday, am less occupied.
So my broilers are 6weeks+2days old today and still very fine. To be frank, I didn't give them any vaccination @all which I now realize is very risky especially the oral given vaccine which shouldn't spill inside the poultry as it might introduce the disease you initially wanted to avoid (when ordinary water spills most times). Am also very happy cuz I started day and night feeding @week 5 and they didn't waste time to respond.
I also noticed that they eat more during hot weather cuz their feeding reduced on Thursday and Friday when it was relatively cold. With joy in my heart, am happy to tell you all that about 6 of my birds weighed +4kg @6weeks+2days
This batch of chicks have actually proven to me that life no balance true true. As I got 1.8kg @ 6weeks In all, average 3.2kg(excluding that little creature) Highest =4.4kg
I believe as my ogas @jide and oga @Chukskafor said, "at 6weeks, some suppose don dey near pot" and am glad to tell that they are ready for pot but me am not ready yet Well done bro... You've done well. Would you be kind enough to give us an estimate from day old to 6 weeks? More Winnings to you. |
