Business / Re: What Business Can I Do With N50k To Feed Family by Oktane: 5:56am On Aug 01, 2020 |
rasheedbkr37: Below is my take on the subject matter. 50k may appear small but if appropriately deployed it could provide a foundation for a great future. We stand in times that are obviously very difficult but underlying this difficulties are great opportunities. The biggest problem I seem to see here on Nairaland is the fact that many people looking out for a business to do are only interested in generating an income to solve immediate problems. For as long as you are driven by that mindset your business is bound to fail as your aspirations may never be met. My advice si that you look for something to do that provides value for your immediate environment and grow it from there. Be humble and by extension willing to start small and then grow. You need to survive and then thrive. Whatever you start with 50,000 may not bring you more than 20k profit monthly initially. If you are however consistent then you could build a business that will grow into a collosus. Several threads abound here on Nairaland business where you can tap inspiration from. You could buy eggs from a farm and distribute in your neighbourhood, you could buy snacks like potato chips, Chin-chin, peanuts and plantain chips and distribute them among retail outlets in your vicinity. Look out for the Aboki stores, if you sell what they buy regularly then you have a good model. Better still you could look for a bakery that makes good bread and and redistribute their products in an exclusively assigned territory. Finally, 50k is a lot of money for the smart and innovative entrant into trade and commerce. Wishing you the best of luck. 4 Likes |

Something I have observed recently is that my Redmi 8 is losing my saved contacts. Sometimes when I reboot the phone I can retrieve some of the contacts but other times I have to resort to Truecaller contacts to retrieve my contacts. Is anyone else experiencing this? What could be wrong? Could be as a result of the recent update that I did? |

Politics / Re: President Buhari Nominates Okonjo-iweala For World Trade Organization DG Post by Oktane: 8:49pm On Jun 05, 2020 |
goaldynboy: Great research you have here. But it is what it is. Very academic. I still stand by my position. There are no Igbo communities in Akwa Ibom state. Non also in Cross River State. The areas mentioned in your quote are border towns of Akwa Ibom and it's neighbouring states. In Ukanafun, they have borders with some Abia communities like Azumini and over the years they have intermarried and traded together. They can also speak the language as a result of proximity. In Akwa Ibom state you also have Itu Mbon Uso, a community that speaks its own very unique language which the Akwa Ibom man of Ibibio, Annang and Oron extraction may not understand. Along the Ikot Ekpene - Umuahia axis there is area one communities that border with Akwa Ibom under the Ikwuano LGA of Abia State. The firs village on entering Abia is called Arian and it is famous for its weekly market. Many residents of these communities thrive in trade using this market as a platform. They speak the Igbo language fluently on the basis of the interrelationships. But they are not Igbo. Approaching Rivers from Akwa Ibom you have the Andoni people who are not Rivers but Akwa Ibom people. They have never claimed to be Rivers and Rivers has never requested for them. Opobo is another border town which people misrepresent but thankfully has been clarified. In Itu LGA you have the Oku Iboku communities which is the border town for Akwa Ibom. There has been a raging land battle between this community and it's counterpart in Cross River State; Ikot Offiong Ambai. Summarily, I respect the fact that you took some time to conduct an 'online based' research which is quite interesting but yet very flawed. Online research has some social value but not provide the hard facts that an on-ground experience will reveal. I have visited all these places I have mentioned and have had discourses with the indigenes. As a matter of fact you dare not go to Ikot Umoh Essien, Akwa Ibom border with Ngwa land of Abia State and call them Igbos even mistakenly. You may not survive to tell the tale yourself. Sadly another community battle will ensue and there is no telling when it will be quelled. |

FortuneDeGreat: The reference by the poster was to the two states I mentioned. As regards Rivers and Benue, I cannot say I have the competence to state categorically if there are Igbos. I could however tell you that I have heard a a few friends and Associates that bear distinctive Igbo names like Ngozi, Amaechi, Ebele, Tobe. Benue I have no idea about. |

seunmsg: Sometime you amaze me with your posts Sir. And you are perhaps boosted by the likes. Buhari will have to put his best foot forward. The other candidate may not be a sellable candidate. Okonjo will trounce any other candidate form anywhere else. Trust me Bro! Okonjo is our biggest Human capital export right now. Others who are growing their profiles include Adeshina, Amina etc. Some of you who live on Nairaland would wince if you had just a small inkling into what plays out on the global career scene. Politics does play a role but expertise and antecedence are of primary consideration. So for most International players they grow professionally while also expanding their political girth consistently. |

FortuneDeGreat: A sprinkling of Igbos in Delta state. Absolutely no Igbos in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. You could probably have a lot of similarities among the border communities but the distinction is quite clear. No Igbos in Cross River, No Igbos in Akwa Ibom. |
Car Talk / Re: How Cars 45 Ripped Us Off by Oktane: 7:03pm On May 25, 2020 |
Lexusgs430: Bros! I understand you clearly. I am appraising this matter from a strictly legalistic standpoint. These guys cannot be faulted legally. In their showroom caveats are clearly posted to warn you off but majority of us don't see that or prefer not to look at those posters. Many people have benefitted from this same set-up. Many people in desperate need for cash within 24 hours are better off with this model. The truth is that you are never forced to part with your car. An assessment (no matter how biased) is carried out, the results are presented to you, a bidding (supposedly independent) is done and then a price is presented to you as the value of the car. Either of two choices stare at you clearly. 1. Take a walk. 2. Deal ( and let the tears flow later). Whichever option you choose the guys will continue in business. Finally, I may not like their model, but I can live with it since it doesn't give them a gun or a knife. They provide employment, provide in one for their varied and many franchisees, pay taxes and grow our GDP ultimately not to talk of the benefits they bring to desperate Asset Strippers (car sellers) in terms of their instant cash provision. 2 Likes |
Car Talk / Re: How Cars 45 Ripped Us Off by Oktane: 6:38pm On May 25, 2020 |
Lexusgs430: ....Because they have a showroom. I am really fascinated with the brouhaha this thread has generated. Cars45 is a business set up to maximise profits. The main advantage they have us that you can get cash almost immediately when hard pressed to fulfill an obligation. I myself have go e there trying to sell a car. My experience was terrible. I however did a little research and found out that they are not doing anything wrong legally. Their moral ranking could be quite low but then they are operating within the confines of the law. We are even lucky that they don't charge us before assessing the car. In other climes they would actually charge for registering you as a vendor, appraising the car before paying for the car. And believe me, even with this they would still thrive. What we should look forward to is that one very discontented customer will forge a partnership that will compete with these guys and give them a run for their money. But no one seems to think in that direction. Pls note that they have funding to even expand further and my eventually become the biggest 'go to' car merchants in Naija. 1 Like |

drabfemmy: No need to be sorry Bros! What you have done is commendable and indicates that redemption may still be yours. You didn't attempt to scam, niether did you condescend to beg. Many people should be impressed with your desire to earn an income from a legitimate means. You will lost definitely receive some phone calls and other SMS. Please consider them seriously and try out whichever one appeals to you. Trust in the Providence that Creation provides and take advantage of this opportunity offered by the prevailing economic circumstances. In other words let this be a door to other streams of income that you should have considered a long time ago. The most consistent businesses that even thrived during the pandemic was related to health, food and beverages. Let this be a clue to you to adopt some form of trade in those businesses such that no matter how bad the economy is you will always make some cash for your very subsistence. Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Need A Honest Person For A Job In Ibadan - N20,000 Per Month. by Oktane: 2:01pm On May 24, 2020 |
Goddys: This post is not consistent with your previous post. Anytime a HR seeking to fill a position asks for location either of two things are involved; 1. The reward is below industry standard. Or 2. Or the job entails an supra early arrival. For someone who has been in HR for a while, I am really surprised at your hollowness. You just jumped to conclusions without looking at all the dynamics involved herein. And shortly after you now ask a very indicative question. Typically, salaries are a prerogative of the employer. The candidate however reserves the right to accept or turn down the offer. As you can see from the response the guy is getting, the economy is not smiling. Ibadan is also a peculiar city. If that same position was in Lekki, Maitama, Asokoro or Banana Island the offer would have been better. One of my former colleagues relocated to Ibadan some years back on account of marriage. She had to take a teaching job that pays 7k in Orita there in Ibadan. Mind you this is less than 10% of what she was earning here in Lagos. When I complained, she just told me not to bother that it is the prevailing salary among schools of that level and in that location. The school is owned by a Civil Servant married to a retired civil servant who doubles as the school bus driver and the Custodian. Things are not the way they may appear in the majority of cases. My advice is that you be a bit more circumspect in your critisms. |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: I Need A Honest Person For A Job In Ibadan - N20,000 Per Month. by Oktane: 1:38pm On May 24, 2020 |
Goddys: Why don't you yourself sit down and think seriously and then in annoyance create opportunities for others and pay them what you deem as fit. The guy has considered what he can offer in the light of his financial circumstances, the value the candidate will bring to the business and of course the prevailing economic situation. Based on this he makes an offer and here you are castigating him for offering 20k. Do you even have an idea of the burden one undergoes to pay salaries at the end of the month in these times where almost all models are failing? Pls think before you type. |
Business / Re: My Ordeal This Corona Period - Advice Needed by Oktane: 8:55am On May 19, 2020 |
LieDetector: Dear Liedetector, I am not seeking to draw us into an elaborate exchange that is founded on our individual perspectives of life. I do however wish to be of immense help to a much younger person drawing from my experience. You are not unfortunate in any way. You happen to be so fortunate that you do not understand. You belong to a generation that has had the best access to opportunities which naturally makes more demands on you. We were not so lucky 20 years ago. What you call unfortunate incidents mostly depends on how you look at it. Take for instance the current COVID 19 menace. It appears unfortunate but look at it critically, a few people have positioned themselves to benefit immensely from this supposed menace. Others are just complaining seriously. As a matter of experience, when you are on the complaining side of the spectrum you cannot see inherent opportunities because a you seek are faults and more faults. The successful ones seek out opportunities and more opportunities. For the avoidance of doubt, even in your immediate environment there are several opportunities for you to max out. The only snag is that you need to start small. And please you don't need money to start out in every business. Your abilities backed by a strong determination to conquer which is in turn laced by an infectious enthusiasm will see you through. Several testimonies abound even here on Nairaland which you could draw from. Small everyday businesses and trades that you can adapt and modify to suit your immediate circumstances. Whatever you do, please ensure that you give it your all even if it appears like it is not working. It is growing in leaps and bounds but may not be obvious to you at the moment. Look for something and start out immediately. Forget if you are earning enough or not. Start out with 500.00 daily and grow it to 1k and then 2k and then eventually 5k. Bros, even Aboki come to Lagos empty handed and without degrees or NYSC certs and within a few years the still make out a living and even bring down their families. Gear Up Bro! We live in exciting times. This is the best time to be alive in the evolution of the human race. Exploit this era as much as you can. Good luck! 7 Likes |

LieDetector: You have just created an online pity party. Many people experiencing similar circumstances will flood the thread very soon. I don't know why you think it had to be so hard. You just have to deal with the situation as is and all you need is the right disposition to overcome and you will put this behind you very soon. A few tips may be useful here. Firstly, the Corona Virus pandemic is going to be in our midst for while together with its attendant drawbacks and by extension its negative impact on the global economy. The beautiful thing is that those who can shift their gaze and reposition themselves will sooner than later realize that this could be a springboard for changing their lives and making a lot of money. Secondly, deal with the situation on the ground. There will be no NYSC for at least one year. C Schools may not likely open till the fall and that means there will be no new openings for teachers. You have to buckle up and look clearly around you. Opportunities abound. Most of them will not look attractive on first appearance but then who says that they cannot be helpful? Do not look down on any available option at this time. Look for a way of making a daily income of 1000 providing a needed service or product in your locality/neighbourhood. Start with whatever may appear as lower hanging fruits now. Then work your way upwards. The secret may yet lie in selling a fast moving consumer product of the food variant. Wishing you the best of luck. 4 Likes |
