You just displayed humungunous naivety here!
He should contact the government and destroy the earning potential of several institutions and individuals ABI?

Why not just asking him to walk in front of a fast moving train?

That's a more effective effort at suicide.

Career / Re: Intels Sacks 600 Workers In Rivers, Warri by Oktane: 11:59pm On Oct 14, 2020
Cyberterror:
Atiku is the owner of Intels. He is showing how much disdain he has for Nigerian workers. Laying off 300 workers just like that without severance or terminal benefits. But he can organize lavish wedding for his son. He can't try this nonsense in his native country of Cameroon.

Each time you consider typing a post to be read by as many people as possible you may wish to consider showing a certain degree of intelligence (even if you have to borrow it).

Intels is a privately owned company that has over the years employed several thousands of Nigerians. Their business was impacted by a recent disagreement with their partners which led to the termination of a major multimillion naira contract.

How do you expect the duo of Atiku and Tinubu who are major stakeholders to paying redundant staff. It's a business and not a charity.

Pascopele:
Nigerians have worked hard to earn their reputation for being corrupt internet scammers. No thanks to Huspuppi, Invictus & Co.,

The poorly written emails suggest a substandard educational system, or at least poor English teaching resources in Nigeria.

Outside of the frequent emails from unfortunate Nigerian princes. The Nigerian criminal element has persuaded many foreigners to stay away from Nigeria or perceived us ALL to be thieves.

Most of them are not familiar with any positive attributes of Nigerians.

Kindly share you experience as a Nigeria Abroad
It is no lies that the hustle to get out of this country is getting realer by the day but as a result of fraud it becoming tougher by the day.
I want to use this opportunity to invite our Bros and sis to come and enlighten us about their stories because this is Nigeria and everybody have got stories.

Boitumelo Dube, is a South African acquinatance and used to stay in Sunnyside Pretoria, aka Lagos. below is what she said about us

" I have a good number of wonderful friends, colleagues and acquaintances from West Africa that I met during university days, that I met now professionally as colleagues and clients, those people I know socially and I can safely say my former neighbouring was 50% West Africans. My view of Nigerians are the following, in no particular order:

-They are well spoken: yes there's pidgin but most Nigerians are eloquent and expressive sometimes a bit over-the-top;

-They are quite industrious: but can also be cut-throat and unethical in business;

-They have a wonderful reputation of being scammers and conmen and this one is felt globally. Yahoo boys, email fraud etc;

-Nigerians are well travelled and will explore any avenue to make money elsewhere which is wonderful. But I do think it's partially because of their adventurous and get-it spirit and coupled by the fact that millions of Nigerians are desperate to leave Nigeria for a better life somewhere else. And most don't want to go back or they take long years to visit family. I know a guy who's been here for 20 years and hasn't visited, issues of papers, lack of money etc basically excuses I know damn well he has money and can easily fix his papers. His mother has been begging for years

-I loooooove the West African diet. Omg the food is soooo good and tasty, I've had many many soup dishes, jollof with all kinda meat. I'm a foodie and love hot food so it makes sense;

-I love Nigerian music. I listen to a mix of Asa, Mr Eazi with the delicious lips, Timaya, Harry Songs, Runtown whose just so fiiiiine, a few Davido tracks, love Tiwa and Wizkid;

-Nigerians have their many tribal prejudices and discriminatory attitudes but will come together against an outsider;

-I like the accent and Nollywood; the plots, plot- twist and magic im here for all that lol;

-Nigerians pride themselves in their sexual prowess; I mean I cannot even tell you the number of times I've been promised a great time in bed. Funny thing is I've never been in a sexual relationship with a Nigerian man, which is weird because I mean Nigerian men are hot. They just extremely economical with the truth and imcredible womanizers;

-Nigerians dont like parting ways with money, when they do they'll negotiate to the lowest possible amount,

I wanted to visit Nigerian for 2 weeks this Feb., 2020 until I found out they dont have stable electricity supply, I don't want to be trapped in a whole new country and be confined to a hotel room because the city is dark at night. I wanna be out and about hanging out with people soaking in the culture".
Pls details of the Iyana Ipaja big boobs babe. Thanks!
Education / Re: Covenant University Appoints Professor Bassey Williams As Acting Vice Chancellor by Oktane: 3:38pm On Sep 24, 2020
HigherEd:
Hmm Covenant is not really the school to appoint an acting management official unless something unsatisfactory happened. In this case I am sure the University slip from number 1 in Nigeria and west Africa to number 4 in Nigeria on the new times higher education ranking must have been the reason.

Usually they would have selected a new VC by conducting the selection process months ago or allowed the past VC to run a second term. Choosing an acting VC shows that replacing the VC in view of the expiration of his term was not prepared for.

Very apt commentary here.

The bolded is however no longer applicable. All Vice Chancellor's are only allowed a single term of 5 years as against the previous 4 years renewable term.

But I am nonetheless surprised that in this isolated case Covenant was found wanting thus creating an avoidable vacuum.

@Oktane, before I resolve to come and drop this piece here, I have took a lot of actions. I have done something related to this before. The result is not pleasing. I am still taking actions. All I asked for is a road map, if he actually has the experience.
The cost of maintaining and fueling a vehicle much than rushing into an idea

You need to take more measured actions.
You have in your possession one of the most valuable tools for a smooth take-off. Look around you sir,trade is going on back and forth.

Yes! You tried out something related to this and the results were not what you expected so what did you do? Dump it?

Why not try something else? You could distribute drinks, bread, eggs, organic foodstuff etc. Whatever you do please spend sometime on it before concluding that it is not yielding appropriate returns. The fact that some people have been involved in it for a while translates to the fact that it must be somewhat sustainable if not outright profitable.

A certain lady I know of uses her husband's jeep to sell/distribute bread in Lagos. She started combining about the fuel consumption and was considering quitting the business. I encouraged her to continue and build up some traction and that we would then review her performance.

Her fuel costs gradually paled in significance as higher volumes of bread were lifted and delivered. Right now she cannot complain even with a 15,000 budget for fuel. Her profit is large enough to absorb this costs. The morale here is for you to something long enough before concluding if it is profitable or not.

Again,do accept my best wishes as you decide on what is best for you at this time.
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Do People Actually Get Jobs By Merit In Nigeria? by Oktane: 1:25pm On Aug 15, 2020
OcVoice:

Well said sir.

What skill do you think I can develop at age 40 to get a job in Nigeria? Mind you, i don't have money to pay for it!

Moreover I don't see why I am not an attractive candidate for many roles.....my age is not mentioned in my CV and i have experience in sales and procurement.

I get invites for tests and interviews, and i usually pass the tests and i am usually happy after my interviews but I don't get called for the job. I can beat my chest and tell you that in most cases, the candidate with a STRONG connection in the interviews i attend, often gets the job. I have a handful of instances!

My response was not meant to denigrate you or your personality. Far from it. It was only drawn from my personal experience anchored on a number of years in managing staff recruitment and training. I only desire that you draw whatever benefits may exist in those lines above.

I am an above 40 male specie myself. I understand the feeling that one may have list a lot of time especially when compared to the exploits of our better doing contemporaries. There are several skills one can learn as adult but your choice of skill acquisition must be defined by certain parameters including but not limited to the following;

It must be something that is fast and requires more mental acuity than physical exertion.

It has be a career path that you can begin to earn from almost immediately.

It must be something you are in tune with, something that you can enjoy doing....or at least tolerate within reasonable bounds.

I cannot be specific about what you should learn at the moment. But I could share a number of inspiring experiences of other wayfarers.

Regarding the not having money part, I will ignore it because if you see the prospects you will find the money. It's that simple.

However, please be objective in your search.

I still maintain that you are not a very attractive candidate for many of the roles you apply for. At this stage in your life you should be head-hunted and not you seeking a job. You belong to the range of middle to senior management cadre in any industry. While you may have metal alertness, and you could also be physically fit you may not have the flexibility and innovation a 28 year old will have.

Incidentally, this morning I had the privilege of interviewing 3 candidates 28(M), 34(F) and 42(M) for a sales role in an FMCG company and I can tell you that even with less experience the 28 year old cornered the job.

The others had a good showing and of course more experience but the younger one exuded much more enthusiasm founded on his very palpable energy levels which I must say was quite contagious. May I add here that prior to the interview we were more inclined to the 42(F) candidate because of his experience as shown on his CV. But the 28(M) was a smart Alec. He stole the show.

Again, I do not disagree completely that there could be instances where the candidate is given priority or shown some favour for primordial reasons....this however will be the exception and not the norm in a forward looking company driven by profitability.

Apologies if you find my position offensive but it is what it is and personal to me. I only share this with you out of concern. And I do like your disposition this far.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: Do People Actually Get Jobs By Merit In Nigeria? by Oktane: 6:45pm On Aug 14, 2020
OcVoice:
Yes, I can categorically tell you that people do NOT get jobs by merit in Nigeria. I have loads of instances and experiences that I can back this with and I know a lot of people too will testify to this except those really gaining from the government and just want to blindly support their pay master.

Let me start with the interview I went last week. We were about 15 guys. We sat at the security office, and were called in, in 4's. Then it remained about 4 of us. 2 guys were discussing in Yoruba, then the CSO called out the guy beside me. I went out and pretended as if I was making a call and I was speaking in Yoruba. I overheard the CSO telling the guy in Igbo that "oga" said he should come in last. He assured him that he would be employed as long as "oga" is involved. I'm very sure I did well at the interview. As I was leaving, I collected his number. I called him today and he said he was called to come this week for medicals.

It is no news that to get a job in any of the MDA's, you have to pay a huge sum of money. Jobs in MDA's are sold from 700k upwards. You can NEVER see a due process, free and fair fed. Govt recruitment. There has to be job racketeering. Go to the MDA salary thread on Nairaland and you will almost cry tears for Nigeria. I will never forget how my name was shortchanged in NSITF recruitment. After paying for registration, writing test, and attending 2 different interviews. People with STRONG connection who initially knew nothing about the recruitment nor even paid for registration, nor did test, nor attended interview, later got the jobs.

As I speak with you, a secret underground employment is currently going on in FIRS, but they recently came out to debunk it. People are even doing induction, while some are getting appointment letters.

It is not just in federal or state government, even in private firms. You can not get a job in Nigeria today if you don't have connection.

The problem is not only the Government, it is also that of the privileged citizens.

NIGERIA IS FINISHED! Believe me when I say NIGERIA OUR COUNTRY IS FINISHED!

If you an undergraduate hoping to get a job in Nigeria after NYSC without a STRONG and CONFIRMED connection, please do yourself and your future a fantastic favour by saving from your NYSC allawee, then apply for a school Visa and leave this country. If you get there, go to a cheaper school and start a new life. Get involved with a citizen, then marry.

THERE IS NO HOPE IN THIS COUNTRY FOR THE CONNECTIONLESS!
THERE IS NO HOPE IN THIS COUNTRY FOR THE CONNECTIONLESS!
THERE IS NO HOPE IN THIS COUNTRY FOR THE CONNECTIONLESS!

Nigeria destroyed my life. Wasted my time! Killed my dream! I am 40. I have no job, no wife, no business.

Last words: IT IS ONLY REVOLUTION THAT WILL REVIVE THIS COUNTRY

I feel your pain.

But I do not entirely agree with you.

Perhaps it is very applicable in the public sector of the economy. At the different levels of the civil service you can get jobs just by having the right connections.

It's is however rather untrue in the very vast skills dependent private sector. There is absolutely no way any recruiter will recruit his ward or protege to work in a highly specialised role.

People who set up businesses have profit as their primary focus. And this profit is only attained when you are able to provide a product or service if reasonable value. The more the perceived value the more the profit.

What you need is do is to develop a skill in such a way that you cannot be ignored by any recruiter. I assure you that for very serious companies there is little or no room for mediocrity and it will not be tolerated even from the son of the founding director.

On a personal note I suggest that at age 40, you need to undergo a paradigm shift. Perhaps you are no longer an attractive candidate for many roles unless you have cognate experience in the area required. You could explore starting out with a trade and then watch it grow as it eventually provides you with daily income that is consistent and reasonable.

If you wait for too many ideas to come up, confusion will set in and you will eventually sink back into inactivity.
