The free education was for everybody, EVERY NIGERIAN, Most easterners migrated en-masse to West to avail themselves, their wards or grandchildren the opportunity proffered by the free education.Northern traders, drivers etc also moved enjoy the free education policy of the West.

Maybe you need to read lamido sanusi's write-up on his life @ a Lagos public school,Kings College and after.

SEFAGO,

You will never hear an Igbo man giving praise to Awolowo. And we all have remained consistent with our message.

Awolowo was only a champion to the Yoruba people, not Nigeria as a whole. Anyone who says otherwise is being naive and foolish.
You are the one being naive, silly and out of touch with the reality.Awolowo still remains the best president Nigeria never had.
Political agitators of his era(including (Zik) couldnt match is developmental and educational success. It is on this notion as premier of the Western region that he declared : "In 14 months,we have done more for Nigeria that the british did for us in 120 years.
Awolowo did Free education which attracted today#s most educated easterners and Northerners. He built Premier institutions-like the first TV station in Africa,University of Ibadan, founded Oodua Group Of industries which today has over 25 successful coys under its fold amongst others. Most of today's leaders in SW enjoyed free and Qualitative education of the Awolowo era.this was against British Govt's plan to levy, tax and mortgage education for poor and growing Nigerians.
His former political ally turned opponent(Zik) who defected to the party at the center to become President of Nigeria couldnt even better the lot of his people not to talk of impacting postively on the lives of Nigerians.

Enlightened Igbo men accused Zik of selling their "birth right" by defecting to the ruling party.

In our founding father's world: North's religious emancipation and polititical conservatism,East's politics of "better side" and political prostitution,Awolowo is a statue of steadfastness in the face of betrayal and deciet by Zik,political activism, foresightly generational emancipation and well-reserched and formulated sustainable plan of national development
he recorded tremendous success in SouthWest with abysmal revenue from cocoa supplemented by income and property tax from workers and property owners COMPARED to today's petro-dollars.

FamilyJealousy: Wife Stabs Husband To Death by olafolarin(op): 6:32am On Jun 03, 2010
“Love is wicked,” so sang two American musicians, Brick and Lace, in one of their releases. Another female musician also described love as a dangerous game.

And this is exactly how to describe the way a woman in Lagos, who allegedly killed her husband recently for mere suspicion and jealousy. Ironically, she claimed loving him.

The suspect, Ifunanya Marcus from Umuahia, Abia State, allegedly stabbed her husband, Princewill Chukwu, in the stomach and his intestines gushed out. The incident occurred on May 27, 2010. He was said to have been rushed to the hospital, where he died two days after.

The woman suspected that his husband was having an affairs with his sales girl. But Ifunanya, 25, told Daily Sun she had known no peace since she met her husband in Delta State in 2003, especially, since they relocated to Lagos.
She said her husband had the habit of beating her, to the extent that she would end up in hospital. The suspect claimed that the scars on her body were as a result of torture by her late husband.
She also narrated how Chukwu flung her personal effects out of the house for failing to come back from the church on time. She claimed he did not pay any dowry before they started living together, adding, however that their union did not produce any child.

“I came back from the church that evening and he asked me where I was coming from. He asked me to go back to where I was coming from. The next thing he did was to throw my personal effects out of the room. He usually beat and injured me. I normally take drip, after each torture. He would later beg me to forgive him and brought back my property. I love him so much.

“He has not paid my dowry. My mother, sisters and other family members had advised me to leave Prince but I refused. Is it a crime to be in love? Now, see where my own love has landed me. I’ve brought shame to my family and my husband’s family. After I stabbed him, I prayed that he survived. I prayed to die, instead of him dying. I dreamt in the cell where someone died, I didn’t know it was my husband.”
“Please, beg my mother and sisters for me. I brought shame to them. What I want you people to do for me is to bury my husband for me. You can hang me. I’m not afraid of death anymore. I dropped out from primary four. God knows I loved my husband so much,” she lamented.

The suspect, who got to knew about her husband’s death in the office of Lagos State police spokesman, Mr. Frank Mba, fainted but was revived by a police doctor. She explained that she never meant to kill him. “I did not mean to kill him. I was only using the knife to threaten him. I don’t know what came over me before I stabbed him.

I was only narrating a story to his sales girl, Chikodi. He came back and was knocking on her door. I had to pass through the other door, to the kitchen because I was in Chikodi’s room. I hid in the kitchen. Later, I heard her telling him to stop touching her, that his wife was around. I noticed he was romancing her. I asked him whether that was what they had been doing and he threw my property outside. I picked the kitchen knife and stabbed him. I never knew it would result in his death,” she wept.

Chikodi, however, denied knowledge of the remote cause of Ifunanya stabbing her husband to death. “I’m a sales girl to Princewill. We sell bags and clothes at Badagry market. His wife asked me to come home for a discussion with her.

She told me she had problems with Chukwu and transferred her property to my room. She told me she had been having problems with him since they married in 2003. “Unknown to us, her husband was around and he began to angrily knock on the door. He ordered me to open the door or he would break it. His wife had to use the other door to the kitchen and hid there. I was begging him as he was shouting.

“His wife later came out from the kitchen and slapped him two times. He wanted to push me, I held and begged him not to beat her. I looked back and saw the wife holding a knife, trying to stab him,” Chikodi said.

She said she later collected the knife from her and threw it away. “And she ran inside the kitchen again and took another knife. Princewill pushed me and I fell. His wife stabbed him in the stomach and he fell. I came out and raised the alarm.”

“We took him to hospital in Badagry and they referred us to Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), Idi-Araba His intestines came out, and we had to push them in with clothes, till we got to the hospital. He died at LUTH,” she said.

This is really barbaric. The Oba should be deposed and barnished from the Palace.
I hope the Kingmakers will depose this mean bastard who called himself Oba.
FamilyRe: Oba Assaults Wife (deji Of Akure) by olafolarin(m): 2:51pm On Jun 01, 2010
Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina the Deji of Akure land, on Sunday evening physically assaulted one of his wives in a free for all in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Oba Adesina, accompanied by his latest wife, Remi Adesina, descended on Olori Bolanle Adesina and inflicted injuries on her.

NEXT gathered that Olori Bolanle had been ordered out of the palace by the monarch, following a slight disagreement between the two. The traditional ruler then invaded the private residence of Olori Bolanle with stern looking people suspected to be thugs, who gave the hapless woman a thorough beating.

The incident was said to have happened around 5.30pm on Sunday when the the Oba, along with Remi, stormed the residence of the second ‘Olori’ located on 141, Hospital Road Akure, in an SUV and Toyota starlet.

On sighting the Oba and his wife, Olori Bolanle sneaked into her room and asked the people around to tell them she was not around.

But when they could not see her, the monarch allegedly ordered the stern looking youth that accompanied him to destroy the building.

NEXT further learnt that it was at this stage that Bolanle came out of hiding and challenged the people on the reason why they invaded her house. This was said to have infuriated Oba Adesina, who directed that a hot substance should be poured on her.

It was at this point the younger brother of Olori Bolanle and some passers-by descended on the Nissan Pathfinder brought to the scene by Oba Adesina. The vehicle, marked “Deji of Akure”, was seriously damaged by irate youth, who vowed to deal with him seriously.

In an attempt to escape being dealt with by the people of the area, the Oba fell into the drainage along the road and his cap allegedly fell off his head. It took the quick intervention of the police from the state command to save him from being lynched by the irate mob.

‘God saved me’

While narrating her ordeal, Olori Bolanle said it was God who saved her life from death.

“I had to block my face because they wanted to pour the substance on me to deface me. But, I was lucky to have blocked it with my two hands,” she said.

“Despite the fact that I was forced out of the palace without the opportunity to take my belongings, Oba Adesina still came to my house to fight me for unjust cause. When I noticed that there was nothing I could do, I had to call the police who responded swiftly to my distress call. It took the intervention of the police to put the situation under control.” Olori Bolanle urged security operatives to beef up security around her so that the monarch would not be able to take her life.

Efforts to speak with the Akure traditional ruler proved abortive, as he refused to comment on the issue when contacted on his cell phone.

Oba Oluwadare Adepoju Adesina was on Novemeber 8, 2009 declared unworthy of the throne and his seat vacant, by the kingmakers in Akure. He was subsequently barred from the palace. Oba Adesina was also accused of not completing the traditional rites four years after he assumed the throne. It took the intervention of the state governor, Olusegun Mimiko, before the kingmakers could revert their earlier decision.

What about the reunification of East and West Germany. The reunification has not only made life easier for the former East German [s]but has also promoted the business growth of the nation as a whole. Although there is still a gap [/s] in the productivity between the two parts of the country which is due to the fact that the Eastern German economy still suffers from the effects of the socialist experiments, nevertheless the East Germany economy has continue to grow at a faster rate than in West Germany and compare to the time they were Socialist and before the reunification. As of now, the the reunited Germany marks a strong economy in the central Europe. If it could work with people with different political background, why would it not work with us. Why do we always need to rest our heads where everyone else rest their feet and our feet where everyone else rest their heads.
The example you gave which is highlighted above is seriously flawed. The fall of the Berlin Wall which led to unification of both East and West germany did and is still doing a great damage to the economy of the West Germans. The unification depleted Egermany's reserve, increased unemployment and welfare budget and crime increased 10-fold.It is no more secret that todays West germans are blaming the politicians of yesteryears for yielding to U.S's pressure in join both parts of germany together.

However,Ogun state can never be joined with lagos state but the leadership of the state should be changed.OGD is an abyssmal failure in the same level with OBJ, I hope we can condemn both these leaders to the deepest part of our memory.

I just wish Aregbesola well and i hope he will relax and prepare for the next elections. He has a better chance against all the PDP candidates who are factionalised amongst different lines.

The governorship is still zoned to Aregbesola's constituency and he has a solid name and good chance of beating everybody come 2011.

Talkiing governance, the man has failed in his capacity, while his colleague in Lagos at least is doing something no matter how gigantic or small. My only problem is, will he finish all this projects? We are only fortunate that Fashola came to continue what Tinubu started. What if it was Obanikoro that won?
Obanikoro would have destroyed Lagos State.Obanikoro has no plan or vision to develop Lagos.

These projects will be contnued either by fashola in his 2nd term or the next Governor.Lagos enjoys continuum which Bola Tinubu laid down.

PoliticsEfcc Office Burnt Down And Documents Destroyed by olafolarin(op): 4:17am On May 05, 2010
The legal unit of the Lagos office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) went up in flames yesterday, with many case files and exhibits burnt.

EFCC Chair Mrs Farida Waziri has ordered a probe into the fire in which no life was lost.

Three offices occupied by lawyers, including the unit’s head, Muslim Hassan, were affected. The offices are on the building’s third floor.

Among the files destroyed are those relating to cases of some troubled bank chiefs whose trial is being held in Lagos.

An official, who pleaded for anonymity, said: "We are particularly worried about the fate of the files and exhibits relating to the bank cases. We are not yet sure how many are affected. But I know some of them must have been affected. It is a sad development."

The cause of the fire, which lasted between 11 am and 12 noon , could not be ascertained.

Lawyers were struggling to salvage what was left of their files and documents after the fire.

Piles of burnt papers, files and broken furniture littered the affected offices.

Head of the Media Unit, Wilson Uwajaren said the cause of the fire was unknown.

In a statement, he quoted Hassan, as saying he (Hassan) was in the office when the fire started. One of Hassan’s colleagues drew the lawyer’s attention to the fire, Uwujaren said.

He confirmed the destruction of documents but, denied knowledge of whether they related to cases involving troubled bank chiefs.

The statement reads: "Work was in full swing on Tuesday, May 04, 2010 after the May Day public holiday at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) office on Awolowo Road, Ikoyi, Lagos with operatives and other staff attending to their duties.

"However, the smooth operation was disrupted when huge smoke started emitting from the legal unit on the third floor of the operations buildings.

"Attempt by staff to put out the fire was unsuccessful as the fire began to spread. The cause of the fire outbreak could not be immediately ascertained. I was just in my office when somebody drew my attention to it, says Mr. Muslim Hassan, head of the Legal Unit.

"However, kudos must be given to the Nigeria Fire Service whose prompt response to our distress call saved the day as they battled successfully to put out the office. At the time the fire was brought under control, three offices in the legal unit had been razed. However, there was no loss of lives".

A statement in Abuja by EFCC’s Head, Media and Publicity Femi Babafemi said Mrs Waziri ordered the probe after being briefed on the incident.

The statement reads:

"The Chairman said that though not much damage was done to the affected facility, she had to ask for a probe of the incident to be able to establish the cause of the fire.

"At about 11:30 am today, Tuesday, three of the 13 offices occupied by the legal unit in our Awolowo road, Ikoyi, Lagos office were affected by a fire outbreak that reportedly started in one of the offices.

"It is however gratifying that the fire was quickly put out through the prompt intervention of men of the fire service in Ikoyi before it could spread to other offices where sensitive case files are kept.

"Members of the public are therefore assured that our case files are safe and secure

You should read history also well before making such postulations.
Ebitu Ukiwe was a part and parcel of IBB coup and that makes him a part of corruption. He later lost out in the power struggle that followed and has since been licking his thumb in silence.
Ebitu Ukiwe can't claim to be a saint when he connived and planned with IBB(devil) to overthrow a popular government.

In 1999,the the entire Yoruba nation supported Olu Falae but the easterners and Northerners felt comfortable with OBj and because of that we are where we are right now.

Nothing stops an Igboman from being President but can the whole Igbo nation produce just one credible candidate and back him/her 100%?I don't think so.UNITY is Ndigbos biggest problem.
It'll go well till the Northerners use money to instigate igbos against each other. Many candidates will spring up and the entire voting block will be divided while the entire North will back a candidate while SW will also back a candidate.
The disparity needs to be corrected before an igboman will become Nigeria's President.

Momodu, Ovation Publisher, Joins Presidential Race
05.02.2010
One of Africa’s most famous publishers and THISDAY columnist, Bashorun Dele Momodu, is set to move from publishing to politics. According to sources, the publisher of Ovation International, a leading celebrity magazine, was provoked by the decision of former President Ibrahim Babangida to join the presidential race.

THISDAY checks revealed that Momodu has actually been travelling round the world to mobilise young Nigerians to support what he calls “a mission to clean up Nigeria.” His friends believe he’s one of the few Nigerians who have managed to build “a global brand against very daunting odds.” He enjoys a large following of Nigerian youths on Facebook and Twitter.
Momodu was a major supporter of Bashorun Moshood Abiola’s presidential bid in 1993. He was detained at the Alagbon detention camp, Ikoyi, Lagos, between July and August 1993 for his political activities. In 1995, he was forced into exile by the General Sani Abacha Military Government, and lived in England as a refugee for three years. He was accused of being one of the brains behind the pirate radio station that was attacking the dictatorship in Nigeria, an allegation he denied vehemently.

He started Ovation International during that period, and was a regular Yoruba presenter on the pirate radio broadcast, Radio Freedom, which later became Radio Kudirat, under the pseudonym of Saliu Elenuugboro. He decided to support the pirate radio since he was already punished for being a member of its clandestine operations.
He returned from exile in 1998 and expanded his publishing outfit from England to Ghana and Benin Republic where Ovation International is now translated into French. The widely-travelled publisher has been able to build a larger-than-life image and he has a one-on-one relationship with Presidents, international figures, business gurus, students’ organisations, civil societies and political groups.

When THISDAY contacted him in Ghana last night, Momodu said that there were incredible pressures on him to contest next year’s Presidential election. “My supporters are of the firm belief that Nigeria needs a fresh beginning and that that fresh air can only be guaranteed by someone who has not been tainted in anyway by government office and cannot be accused of pilfering government money,” Momodu said. He added that when he eventually announces his intention to run, “the decision would have been aided by the challenge thrown at us by former President Ibrahim Babangida that he can’t see any young Nigerian who can lead Nigeria out of the current political doldrums which was largely created by him.”

Asked on what political platform he hopes to contest when the time comes, Momodu confirmed that he has been a card-carrying member of Labour Party because his father was an ordinary Nigerian who worked most of his life as labourer.
“Most of the men from my Afenmai tribe of Edo State were labourers, and I come from that proud unionist tradition of dignity in labour and service to humanity.” Also, his growing up in Ile-Ife, Osun State taught him the values of hard-work in an environment where most people were poor.
Bashorun Momodu’s presidential bid is certain to add colour and excitement into a usually dull race because of his firm grip on the entertainment and showbiz industry in Africa.

OBJ came to power because of the zoning arrangement. He never won the 1999 elections.
OBJ lost in his ward,LG,State and the entire South-West. But our Ndigbo brothers voted for the gorilla enmass. How I wish the easterners were intelligent enough to know the difference between OBJ and Falae.
We are in this situation today because of OBJ's visionless rule.
We in SW knew him for who he is and even today He can never win even a councillorship election in his village(Owu).he is despised both home and abroad for his tyranny and uncontrollable groin.
He is the recipient of a unique taditional title:The Ebora(Monster) of Egbaland; because of his irrational behaviours and lack of leadership/managerial skills.
Because of all these amongst others SWesterners voted enmass against him in 1999.S easterners were brainwashed to vote for him by their greedy and already compromised leaders. The North supported the fool(OBJ) against the economist(Olu Falae).

So OBJ can denounce zoning but he as a direct beneficiary of the plan.
Prosperity will forever condemn people like him for desecrating my fatherland.
