Col ugokwe was a Colonel in Nigerian Army but a Brigadier-General in Biafra Army. What a sporadic promotion!!!!!! Mekusxxxx was very particular about Col Ugokwe position as Chairman of Nigerian Population Commission. He was appointed by the FG for the post. Big deal, |
Someone wrote on this thread that 2/3 of Lagos residents are easterners and that without them Lagos is dead. Can someone please ask him what has he been smoking?Because it is not true that 66% of Lagos residents are Easterners. MMIA is in a very bad state and efforts by the FG refurbish it has always failed. The Lekki Inter'l Airport will serve as a better alternative to the dilapilated MM.Besides it will open up the entire Lekki-Epe axis for development. The FTZ,rail and economic emancipation of the state will be seriously and tremendously increased. |
Kobojunkie: |
With due respected to everybody who has contributed to this topic and with contrary views,i personally believe Wole Soyinka & Co did the right Thing by staying Away from the venue. The Nobel Laureate cant Be Seen on the Same stand with à murderer and Former dictator.Keyamo and Odumakin was Sent to do the Dirty Job. Soyinka is an International statesman of repute and being Seen exchanging Jans with IBB will do à Great damage to His Reputation. Oshiomole should have notified Soyinka,Tinubu,Fashola and others of IBB's presence. That will give Them à Better opportunity of dealing with the issue differently. Moreso,i don't believe the rally was organised For IBB.Else the tongue-lashing IBB recieved from Keyamo and Odumakin would have been avoided.Rather it was an Opportunity for IBB to feel the Impulse of the Edo People First-Hand. IBB should keep the billions He Stole while in Power and settle for à relaxing retirement.today's politics in far Beyond IBB's Marado-cracy.He can Never See that post again in this lifetime because Nigerians are Wiser and more focused than before. |
Prof Wole Soyinka is right. The BBC documentary is disgusting. BBC should concentrate more Time to UK Slums and leave Nigeria alone. |
PDP has nothing so say to Tinubu, EFCC has been on Tinubu's case from its inception but got nothing to indict him. OBJ pushed Ribadu to find something on Tinubu but still got nothing. PDP is a failed party and Awolowo will be crying in his grave for what PDP and his children has done to Nigeria. |
The Lekki Inter'l Airport is part of the proposed LFTZ.And since it is to be wholly funded by Private investors,it is a welcomed development. We all know the burden on MMIA and its never-ending headache. Besides,The new Airport will jump-start the development of the free trade zone and that will send a positive message to the would-be investors. |
Sky Blue:That makes Iwu a well qualified failure, |
OvieE: I wish you have a leader in Fashola's class as your state Governor. Private investors will only select projects they are sure of quick returns on their investments. |
People need to read the news first before making comments, The airport will cost N43B while the Lekki-Ikoyi Bridge which is almost finished will cost another N30B, The Bridge is neccesary to link both Ikoyi and Lekki without going through the other congested roads. The airport however sounds controversial but it is needed to speed infrastuctural, economic and industrial development of the axis.MMIA is already overstretched and lacks the xteristics of a national gateway. Lekki Inter'l Airport will reduce the burden of MMIA and the location of the airport will see more commercial and economic activities, |
Thank God, Almighty God we thank you for the wise decision taken by the Ag President. It id such à Big Relief that Iwu was eventually relieved of His Duty which He did woefully. I Hope He will Be replaced by Olisa Agbakoba. |
They cry for everything.Civil War,Marginalisation,Betrayal, etc, And they leave their kidnapper's den in the east to seek abode in the west. Yorubas get along with everybody and that sets us above Igbo people who dont see anything good in another tribe. |
mekusxxx:Can you give any example in history of the boldened statement? What you fail to realise is that Yorubas share the same socio-cultural and political ideology with Ijaw,Urhobo and most Niger-Delta people because of the pre-colonial inter-tribe commerce. |
The venue matters here because INC left their abode to visit Afenifere in their office. The headline should have been: IJAW NATIONAL CONGRESS PARLEYS AFENIFERE: However there is nothing wrong in all the different ethnic pressure groups meeting to discuss the way forward for the nation.Afterall we are all in the same country. The ordinary people on the streets stands a lot to gain from peaceful co-existence of every tribe. We dont want "every tribe on its own" situation that breeds anger, jealousy and disdain for each other. mekusxxx:I decided to answer you because it seems you are literate but completely uneducated.Afenifere can not initiate a meeting that took place in Lagos(their domain). It is ludacris. INC in its bid for national concensus visited Afenifere in their headquarters to discuss issues of national interest. You are accusing and crucifying Afenifere for hosting INC. You took your hatred for Yorubas too far. |
mekusxxx:You need to comprehend the write-up first before making unguided and silly statements. The INC visited Afenifere in their Jibowu,Lagos office. INC officials visited Afenifere to discuss the situation of the nation as similar meetings has been held with Arewa Consultatve Forum. It is easy to adduce that INC is the one doing the parleying. Afenifere by its meaning and locus standi[sub][/sub] is a pressure group that breaks ethnic and culture barriers to seek the betterment of the people. They have pursued objectives which is pro-people but at variance with the political leaders of the land. Its objectives and programs are based on well defined and articulated principles which seeks to improve the lot of the people. In most cases rejecting financial appeasement from disillusioned leaders like Obasanjo,Gbenga Daniel, etc, These and many others sets Afenifere on a higher level above other groups like Eze-Ndigbo-which promotes the programs and identity of the highest bidder OR ACF which its conservative ideology of "Hausa 1st"is always at collison with other ehtno-religious pressure groups. Afenifere's success till date is based on his zero tolerance for anything unethic, complete adherence to it strict and principled ideology even in the face of stiff opposition. |
This is so disheartening, I went through all these as well while searching for job a decade ago immediately after graduating, To see that it still happens till date is just terrible. How much does INEC pays for such mammoth crowd be seeking employment in its fold?I weep and weep really hard for Nigeria and Nigerians youth. Only the lucky few get good jobs, Its just pathetic. |
"But investigation by our correspondent showed that while the expiry date on the milk was March 9, 2010, they were distributed to the pupils on March 18." Thats all i need to know The state govt did a terriblr job of not buying newly produced products for the teeming students, |
The school feeding programme initiated by the administration of Governor Segun Oni of Ekiti State to further boost enrolment in the state has come under heavy criticism from the main opposition party in the state. The gesture of providing a meal of cocoa drink and an egg a day to each of the pupils in public primary and junior secondary schools in the state is now under intense criticisms by the Action Congress as the party accused the Oni administration of deliberately feeding thousands of pupils from poor families with expired milk. The state government had given more than enough sachets of MILCOW pineapple milk to thousands of its pupils. The unusual gift, which was distributed in large quantity in March, caught the attention of many curious parents who were suspicious of the gesture. The parents eventually discovered that the milk, which was packaged by a Lagos-based company, had expired before they were distributed to the children on order of the state government. The Director of Communications and Strategy of the AC, Mr. Yemi Adaramodu, in a statement issued over the matter, described the action of the state government as criminal. “The PDP regime had ordered the distribution of expired powdered milk to pupils throughout the state. It would be recalled that the expired sachet-milk were part of the corrupt purchases of the ill-conceived micro-credit scam of the aberrant PDP regime. We are taken aback by the mindless boldness of the PDP regime to coerce teachers who had become their beasts of burden to force the poison on hapless pupils. “This officially-induced genocide followed the alleged epidemic that attended the controversial billionaire but now abandoned tea and egg programme of the clueless PDP regime. The egg and tea disaster put unnecessary pressure on the worse-than-consulting clinics that bear the nomenclature of government hospitals in Ekiti State.” The AC further alleged that the Oni administration was engaged in such wickedness because his government lacked legitimacy and he (Oni) had never hidden his hatred for the people, hence his determination to wipe out innocent children.” But, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr. Wale Ojo-Lanre, who replied the opposition, faulted the AC‘s claims that pupils were fed with expired milk He stated that the arrangement in school feeding by Oni administration did not give room to feeding precious children with tea like the one prepared by a roadside vendor. He explained that pupils were fed with cocoa drink and that milk was already prepared with the cocoa drink by the manufacturer; so the issue of adding expired milk to the meal did not arise. The CPS said that the opposition party had shown that it was out to smear the image of the governor with the allegation because the pupils were not being given milk but cocoa drink. He said, “When we started feeding our pupils with free cocoa drink and egg, the AC political sorcerers went to town with ridiculous tale that we were putting juju incisions on eggs and plastic plates. Two years after, the best they can do is to lie that we are feeding the pupils with expired milk, when, indeed, the pupils are only being fed with cocoa drink packaged by a single manufacturer. “What these shameless liars do not know is that the complete packaged cocoa drink is prepared for the pupils as supplied by the manufacturer. No extra milk is added. If we may ask, was any of the pupils drinking this cocoa drink diagnosed to have been fed with expired milk? “And if the AC hawks discovered that pupils are being fed with expired milk, have they reported to National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control with their evidence(s)? Our advice to these characters is that they should retrieve their souls from the devil because whether they like it or not, Ekiti must continue to move forward.” But there was a difference between the reaction of the CPS and the one from the Commissioner for Education, Mr. Bade Adara. The commissioner who addressed journalists at a press conference held at the Ministry of Education, admitted that pupils were given sachet milk, but he debunked the claims that the milk was expired. He argued that the state government did not have any sinister motive behind the gesture. Adara said that the AC was playing politics with the issue because the PDP-led government could not have sought to kill the children because children whose parents were members of the PDP, AC, other parties, as well as those whose parents were non-partisan, were in public schools. According to him, the Micro Credit Agency of the state government purchased the powdered milk in order to empower the agency to give out more loan to beneficiaries. He, however, said that while some of the milk which expired in March were withdrawn and dumped in a store, those which would expire in April were given out to pupils with an express instruction that they must consume them all before April. He said that the expired milk was probably stolen from the store where they were dumped and given to the opposition party to blackmail the government. The commissioner also alleged that some pupils stormed the incinerator at Christ‘s School, Ado-Ekiti, where the expired milk were dumped and stole part of it. But investigation by our correspondent showed that while the expiry date on the milk was March 9, 2010, they were distributed to the pupils on March 18. JSS II pupils at Anglican Junior Grammar School in Adebayo area of Ado-Ekiti told our correspondent that the milk had expired before they were distributed. The pupils, who pleaded not to be mentioned after showing samples of the milk to our correspondent said, “We were given 10 sachets each. We did not steal the milk. We were given the milk by our teachers on the assembly ground. We were given in our school on March 18. I still have two left, my brother had used eight sachets, here are the remaining two sachets.” Another pupil at Christ‘s School, Ado, also said that pupils were given the powdered milk alleged to be an expired product. However, parents are wondering why the teachers allegedly collaborated with the state government to feed their children with poison called expired milk. Some of the teachers who spoke to our correspondent on condition of anonymity said that they could not refuse the order given them to distribute the milk because of the fear of job loss. One of the teachers said that some of his colleagues surreptitiously warned the pupils not to drink the milk but to go and show them to their parents. NAFDAC, which was reported to have shut the factory where the milk was packed, is also said to be investigating the allegations and counter allegations of expired milk in Ekiti State‘s public schools. Both the opposition and the governor have described the move as a welcome development which they said would expose the liars. The AC statement issued by Adaramodu reads, “We are happy that NAFDAC has heeded our call to visit Ekiti and commence investigation into the expired milk scam. But we like to warn that NAFDAC officials should be wary of Ekiti PDP government officials who are ardent in working on government agencies to turn stories around and cover their iniquities. “NAFDAC should speak to parents of pupils in secondary schools and they would be presented samples of the expired milk products distributed to their children,” the statement said. The governor, who also welcomed the investigations by NAFDAC asked the agency‘s officials to be wary of the AC‘s antics. He said that NAFDAC officials should be informed that some members of the opposition were already involved in some clandestine activities to authenticate their false claims over the expired milk issue. The governor said, “We welcome with open mind NAFDAC‘s investigation of the alleged repackaging of expired milk for circulation. This, we believe, will put to rest the falsehood of the irresponsible opposition elements in the state, who will always make everything the government does to look like crime. That the AC hawks had to first make this allegation before looking for justification is not only devilish but a confirmation that they are in a serious state of confusion.” The governor, despite the criticisms, has vowed to continue with the school feeding programme, which he described as one of the best policies of the administration. He said that since education was the largest industry in the state, everything must be done to encourage and promote it. |
I Hope He will Be Sent to jail like Olabode George. These are a few of the People OBJ recruited to lead PDP.They'll all meet their Waterloo come 2011. |
chosen04:Its ceiminal to spend such huge sum on frivolities when millions of highly qualified graduates are hungry and broke. That amount is enough to employ thousands of youths which will reduce Crime in the Society which will in the Long rum benefit the Rich because they can at least Sleep with their Eyes closed. |
The Chinese will do à very good Job if well supervised and forced to follow the Design of the project. Such project is Long overdue As the pressure on Road Transport is just too much. The Mile 2 - Badagry Section of the Blue line should also Be revived to give the whole Section of the State à Big respite. If that Happens, both Local and Foreign Investors will Be willing to finance the Red Line. |
The Main Frust of any Sane Nation is to defend its citizen anywhere in the World.Be it Socialist,Communist or Capitalist.Despite America's overbearing influence,Castro still Hold is Ground and tool Care of His citizens to the admiration of the entire populace. He Provider free Health Care, free Education and made sure that Basic infrastructures of Life are availavle for the entire populace. He survived many assasination attempts and choking Propaganda financed by the Americans. He is Loved and respected by His People.America's Foreign Policy on Cuba recently changed because of massive Oil deposits discovered in Cuba.U.S. Will do anything to Explore those Oil Fields Even when it requires Kissing Castro's Balls. Backk to Nigeria: With the massive Revenue accrued from Oil, Education should Be free to all nigerians from the Kindergarten to the University. With meagre Foreign earnings from Cocoa,Awolowo did free Education at all Levels for all Nigerians residing in the South-West then.Nigeria Students and graduates à more delusioned than Never beforein the history of Nigeria. After spending almost $16B,OBJ could Not achieve à Stable Power supply for His poultry Not to Talk of Ogun State or the whole of Nigeria. Our Power Generation and Distribution capabilities is As archaic As it was in 1960 but the Irony is that we are now in 2010 and over $20B has been expended with nothing to Show for it. Our roads are impAssable and unmotorable.Every Federal Road in Nigeria is either Bad or going Bad.The Benin-Ore Expressway has Not Seen any Repairs since it was constructed and so much Money was allocated for its repairs. Except for Lagos State,Water Generation and Distribution is almost non-existent.Rail transportation is obsolette. |
@Poster: Spot on, Nigerians always seem annoyed whenever the Reality of Lagos Life is shown on Foreign Media. The fact still remains that what was shown on BBC about Olusosun is the Reality. We should stop blaming others for our Problems.Everything governor in Nigeria needs to Be proactive and pragmatic like Fashola for we have Lost decades to Bad leadership, fraud, looting of the State treasury etc which have all culminated in creating the Situation we are right now.Despicable Situation. Not until those redundant Leaders are voted out or "taken Care of" replaced by progressive Leaders like Fashola,Saraki,Donald Duke, etc. Its à Shame that After almost 50 Years of Independence and thousands of Oil well down the Drain with its accrued billions of Dollars,we are still where we are-à failed State. Olusosun is à typical example of how Nigeria is: A suffering populace in the midst of plenty. Its the Same reason We Need to Mobilise all neccessary machinery to ensure that come 2011,we vote for à Leader with Vision, purpose and the will to serve. |
190:Its à New hot Drink. I Hope Ribadu will Return soon to energise the anti-corruption drive. |
The project(Marina to Okokomaiko Rail line) will Be concluded by end of 2011.The other half Leasing to Badagry is facing tough Opposition from the FG who is hell-bent in concessioning the Road. The last Minister for Works made some stupid Statements negating the LASG initiatives. I just Hope Jonathan will Support the LASG so that the Rail project can Be achieved. |
Olisa Agbakoba is a credible choice that should be pursued. Iwu is just a big nuisance that should be sacked immediately |
