@ TITOPE-BLOG http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/stop-allocations-to-rivers-group-prays.html The refusal of the Rivers State Government to make the 2016 and 2017 Budgets public has become a subject of litigation. This is as an advocacy group, the Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership has dragged Governor Nyesom Wike to court. The group is asking the Federal Government to stop all its allocations to Rivers state until the 2017 Budgets is published. Joined in the matter are the Speaker of the Rivers state House of Assembly, Ikunyi Owaji-Ibani, the Rivers State House of Assembly, Attorney General of Rivers state and Revenue Mobilisation Allocations and Fiscal Commission. The parties are to appear before a Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt to explain why the Budget of Rivers state is not a public document as defined by Law. According to the suit obtained by us, the group wants the court to determine if the 2017 budget approved by members of the house and Assembly is not a public document. The group also want to decipher, “if the Assembly was supposed to pass into law the revenues and expenditure known as Appropriation bill when it can not be accessed by the public”. The Initiative for Transparent Strategy and Good Leadership is also praying the court to “Grant an order to the federal government, restraining them from releasing the monthly allocations to the state government where the government is not able to issue a copy of the 2017 budget to the claimant within seven days.” The group is equally asking the court to award the sum of five hundred thousand naira to them against the state governor, Attorney General, Speaker of the House and entire members of the Assembly, “having failed, refused and neglected to issue the claimant with a copy of the 2017 budget as demanded earlier.” The matter has been slated for hearing at the Federal High Court one on the 5th of December 2017. |
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/biafra-court-adjourns-nnamdi-kanus-trial.html Trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, at an Abuja Federal High Court has been adjourned till December 5, 2017. The IPOB leader is standing trial before the Justice Binta Nyako-led court for charges bordering on treasonable felony leveled against him by the Federal Government. The matter was adjourned due to the absence of Justice Nyako, who is said to be attending the “All Judges Conference” being held at the National Judicial Institute, Abuja. Kanu was noticeably absent from court for the second time, following his disappearance after soldiers allegedly invaded his residence in Abia State on September 14. Despite Kanu’s absence, Senator Eyinnaya Abaribe, who is one of the IPOB’s sureties was however in court.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/mainagate-agf-malami-reveals.html The Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has alleged that masterminds and beneficiaries of the looted pension fund were after him. He said highly placed retired and current political office holders and serving senior civil servants were involved in pension fraud. Malami is currently being probed by the Senate for the recall and reinstatement of wanted pension fraud suspect, Abdulrasheed Maina. He said those involved in the multi-million pension fraud were behind the ferocious media onslaught against him and his office. The Attorney General said this when he spoke with Vanguard yesterday, adding that he was convinced that the aim of the attacks was to force him to discontinue the prosecution of the high-profile looters of pension fund to the tune of N14.3 billion. The minister disclosed that a highly organised pension fraud syndicate exists in Nigeria. Malami said, “Let me state, however, that a barrage of organised and coordinated media attacks against the office of the Attorney-General of the Federation can best be appreciated not from exclusive point of reinstatement of Maina but from a larger perspective of pension fraud syndicate and their antics over time to suppress any attempts at associated investigations. “The fact, however, is indisputable that there exists a pension fund fraud syndicate in Nigeria. The syndicate includes highly placed retired and current political office holders and retired and serving senior civil servants. “The fraud permeates the following institutions: NITEL pension, NIPOST pension, NEPA pension, Nigeria Railway pension, NPA pension and NNPC pension. “The Office of the Head of Service of the Federation, as at 2014, usually presented 258,000 persons for payment per month whereas the actual figure was 141,762. The differential is 116,238 ghost pensioners. There are 66 illegal accounts being used in perpetrating pension fraud. “The breakdown of the amount established to have been stolen and laundered through the pension scheme and the modus operandi through which the proceeds were stolen and laundered from 2008 to 2013 is as follows: Fictitious contracts N5,761,150,608.44; Ghost pensioners, N829,902,260.40; Collective allowances, N1,365,821,942.91; Payments to States Pension Boards and others, N4,192,825,310; National Union of Pensioners, N2,290,593,322; and Association of Federal Civil Service Retirees, N253,390,300, totalling N14,374,236,846.09. “Pension fraud was perpetrated by public officials to siphon humongous amounts in conjunction with, and with the active connivance of the Nigerian Union of Pensioners, NUP, Director of Pension Accounts, State Pension Boards, and Association of Federal Public Service Retirees, among others. Proceeds of the fraud are usually shared among the members of the syndicate. “Mr. Maina has been part of this syndicate but things fell apart between him and the syndicate and he left the shores of Nigeria upon alleged threat to his life. “It may interest Nigerians to know that the Federal Government of Nigeria had from 2008 to 2013 made sizeable recoveries of stolen pension funds. The position of these recoveries needs to be verified. “What happened to the monies recovered from the syndicate? What about the 270 property, comprising real estate and motor vehicles? This is what the syndicate is labouring hard to cover up using media hype against anyone that has shown interest in lifting the veil. “In case you are interested in having the breakdown of the recoveries, please find them listed here below: N2,800,000,000, $3,000,000, 3,500 euro, N16,185,131,847.09k through the OHCSF Pension Account No: 0023682604 domiciled with Union Bank Plc and over 270 property and motor vehicles. ‘’There are 12 criminal charges bordering on variants of financial crimes currently pending at different courts, with an aggregate value of N14.3 billion. “The on-going cases are being continuously compromised by the powerful syndicate. Senior lawyers were being withdrawn from the prosecution of these cases and very junior lawyers were assigned to handle them. “The intention was always to slow down the progress of the cases and turn back the hands of the clock both in terms of speed and sustenance of the coordinated memory. Principal actors in the syndicate were left off the hook and never charged while the low profile actors are left to their fate standing trial.” CC: Lalasticlala Mynd44 Ishilove Marpol Semid4lyfe Obinoscopy Seun

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/anambra-election-obaze-ezeemo-reject.html The duo of Mr Oseloka Obaze and Godwin Ezeemo of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and the Peoples Progressives Alliance, PPA, respectively, have rejected the result of Saturday’s governorship election as announced by the INEC. They said it was fraught will malpractice and was not a true reflection of voting. Both men did not, however, state if they would contest it. Obaze in a press statement said, “The Anambra State governorship election results just released by INEC, does not reflect the realities of the votes cast on 18 November by the Anambra electorate. “The over voting and inconsistencies between the counted ballots and card reader data remains exceedingly worrisome. “The uniformity of the incumbent governor wining twenty-one local governments is a political aberration in the context of Anambra politics. “The election results as reported, shows that nothing matters to the Anambra electorate. The people have spoken. They have taken a cursory long term view of what they wish for Anambra State.” On his part, Ezeemo said he was not comfortable with the outcome of the just concluded gubernatorial election exercise, while insisting that he and his team were still studying the documents on their table and will make a categorical statement after they were done and had come to a conclusion. Speaking to the press at his business park in Umuchu, just as the final result of the election was being announced, Ezeemo said, “I will not give any reaction to what is going on at the moment. I have to look at what I have on my table with my team to decide what will happen. This is based on the fact that a lot of things went wrong all over the state.”

We cannot speculate at this time the circumstances that led to his death as the police are already working hard to unravel what happened. We ask our friends, colleagues and associates to remember the Onubogu family in their prayers during this difficult time. “ABS management will release another statement on this in due time”. |
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/why-we-approved-buharis-55bn-loan.html The House of Representatives, yesterday explained why it approved the $5.5 billion loan request from the executive. The green chamber said it was because President Muhammadu Buhari is trustworthy and keeps to his words. The national assembly had on Tuesday approved the president’s request to borrow $5.5 billion made up of $2.5 billion to fund the 2017 budget and another $3 billion to re-finance the country’s domestic debts. Abdulrazak Namdas, the Chairman of the House Committee on Media and Public Affairs, told newsmen on Thursday that “we approved the loan because we believe that the President is a man of his words and will utilize the funds for the projects earmarked”. According to him, the House after studying the projects outlined to be executed with the proceeds of loan realised that they were essential for rapid economic development. Namdas added that, “the House also realised that the loan proceeds would enhance social development of the country and considering the president’s integrity. “If you have a person that sticks to his words and with President Muhammadu Buhari, we have no doubt that this loan will be put to good use. “We just came out of recession and we need to spend money on infrastructure. Borrowing is part of ways to rejig the economy but it is not good to borrow for frivolous items. However, when you borrow to invest, there is nothing wrong about it.” The lawmaker assured that the House will also step up its oversight function to ensure that the loan was judiciously expended on the projects outlined. “We don’t just approve the loan, we are going to do oversight and ensure that the loan is properly utilised,” he said.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/nigerians-are-suffering-tinubu-tells.html A National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bola Tinubu, has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to put in more efforts towards reducing the sufferings of Nigerians. Tinubu, who noted that the present administration had achieved a lot in the two years of its existence, added that many Nigerians were still too poor to be overlooked. The former Lagos State Governor said this while delivering a keynote address at the public presentation of a book, “Making Steady, Sustainable Progress for Nigeria’s Peace and Prosperity” at the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja. The book, authored by the Presidential Media Team, is a mid-term scorecard of the President Muhammadu Buhari administration. Tinubu said, “True, much good has been done by this government to ignore. However, too many of our people remain too poor and put-out to ignore as well. Daylight comes but not yet to all and not in equal measure. “Due to the neglect of prior governments, our economy was not allowed to blossom in a way that offered jobs to the poor and empowered the common man. “Where prosperity should have stood , poverty was erected. Where progress should have been established , stagnation assumed residence . We are trying hard to escape this deep hole. “While we work towards this good end, we must recognise the situation of millions of our people. Wrongfully denied for so long, they suffer still. But we ask them to take heart . Don ’t forfeit hope. “Understand that tomorrow will not be as the past when what was built and bought was not intended for you. “What we are now building, is meant for you. This is your government and you will be the beneficiaries of its policies and programmes. You are no longer the forgotten . You are the hope and promise of a nation and its future. “As this government implements its economic plans, the griping poverty you have long suffered will give way and ultimately turn into the fertile progress and prosperity that only good governance can bring. We do this with a sense of urgency! “What I proffer today is done in the spirit of utmost respect and affinity by one who wants the best for this government and for Nigeria. I say these things to encourage the government to achieve the greatness the times demand and of which this government is capable.” The APC chief noted that the 2018 Budget that was recently presented to the National Assembly would move the nation farther in the right direction. He continued, “It is a bolder, more creative one than this government’s earlier editions. “It shows this government has embraced its progressive identity despite the chorus of opposition . Also that it more clearly realises the depths of the economic and financial challenges before us. “One of the important aspects of this budget is the capital expenditure for needed infrastructure. “This investment means the government fully recognises our economy must grow but that it cannot expand beyond the parameters of the infrastructural grid that serves it. “With this book and with the budget we come to the place where past intersects with the present to interact with the future; the place where what we do or don’t do will dictate the Nigeria of tomorrow. “We are inching out of recession but growth must increase. It is time to lead our people to a place where poverty and hunger become infrequent and where prosperity and hope are the daily fare of the common man.” The former governor called the government’s attention to three key ideas – the establishment of a robust industrial capacity; the need for a national infrastructural plan; and the need to help common farmers by improving rural output and incomes. He pointed out that said Nigeria’s future was one of beckoning challenge, yet potential greatness. “Through no fault of their own, too many of our people are without. Too many parents cannot properly feed and clothe their precious children, too many young adults exist in the void of joblessness, and too many of us do not have the resources to care for elderly parents who once cared for them. We must cure these wrongs. “If I were an architect, I would say that President Buhari has used the last two years to wisely lay the deep and wide foundation for a new building called a better Nigeria. “Today, as I stand before you all, I implore him and his government. The good you have started ….do it the more. The good that you have yet to achieve ….get to it with a laser- like focus. “If we do as we must, we can well together construct this new building so that it will have place and habitation for those who have lived outside and on the margins to come in and finally partake of the bounty and good harvest a proud and true nation has to offer its people,” he said. http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/corruption-under-buhari-faster-than.html The camp of former President Goodluck Jonathan has lambasted former Lagos governor, Bola Tinubu, over his verbal attack on the Jonathan administration. A statement by Jonathan’s former special assistant on New Media, Reno Omokri, drew Tinubu’s attention to the recent happenings in the Buhari government, noting that the current speed of corruption was faster that Jamaican sprinter, Usain Bolt. Tinubu on Thursday attacked the former PDP government at a book presentation held at the State House Conference Center, Abuja. “The prior government used the public treasury as a private hedge fund or a charity that limited its giving only to themselves. “So much money grew feet and ran away faster than Usain Bolt ever could. That which could have been spent on national development was squandered in ways that would cause the devil to blush. “Boko Haram would have taken more territory and more lives would have been lost to insurgency if Jonathan had remained in power,” he said. However, Omokri disagreed with the APC national leader, recalling that Jonathan received good ratings on anti-corruption from renowned internal bodies. “It is a fact that Nigeria made her most improvement in Transparency International‘s annual Corruption Perception Index In 2014 under President Jonathan when we moved from 144 to 136 representing an improvement of 8 points. “Transparency International observed the Jonathan administration’s fight against the corruption in Nigeria’s fertilizer procurement regime, the use of technology to remove 50,000 Federal ghost workers and the speed at which the then President fired ministers accused of corruption or conflict of interests. “From that time till today, Nigeria has not made any improvements and has remained at 136 where Jonathan left us because Transparency International deals with facts, not opinions or media trial. “Other than media sensationalism, there have been no convictions of financial misappropriation stemming from the Jonathan era. “However, we do know that it is a fact that the allegedly corrupt pension thief, Abdulrasheed Maina, was dismissed and declared wanted by the Jonathan administration. “We also now know that it is a fact that the present Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, met with Maina in Dubai. We know that Maina’s family revealed in a press conference that Maina was invited back to Nigeria by the present government. It is also a fact that Maina was recalled, reinstated and given double promotion by the current administration. “Moreover, we know from the Head of Service’s leaked memo that President Muhammadu Buhari was aware of this entire saga. “Perhaps Asiwaju Bola Tinubu mistook the Usain Bolt speed at which Maina was smuggled back into the country and reinstated for the unproven claims of corruption under Jonathan. “We also know that it is a fact that $25 billion worth of contracts were awarded at the NNPC without due process. It is also a fact that this is the highest ever such amount involved in Nigeria’s history. Again, perhaps it is this amount that Tinubu meant when he said “So much money grew feet and ran away faster than Usain Bolt ever could”. Or perhaps he was referring to Babachir Lawal. “Nigerians should note that on the 7th of March 2014, then President Jonathan said “I am loyal to Nigeria’s economy. I don’t have accounts or property abroad.” Till date, nobody has been able to contradict that statement because it is true. Can Bola Tinubu or anybody in the APC leadership make a similar claim? “On the issue of Boko Haram and terrorism, it is a fact that there is only one global body recognized to monitor terrorism and that is the Institute for Economics and Peace (IEP) which releases the annual Global Terrorism Index. “It is a fact that between 2013 and 2014, Nigeria under President Jonathan was unfortunately listed as the fourth most terrorized nation in the world. “However, in the latest Global Terrorism Index released yesterday (November 15, 2017) by the Institute for Economics and Peace, Nigeria has deteriorated from where Jonathan left it and is now the third most terrorized nation. “In 2015, President Jonathan ensured that elections held in every local government in Borno states, but last month, the United Nations declared that they could no longer operate in certain local governments of Borno state. So who is fooling who? “So if according to Transparency International, Nigeria was less corrupt under Jonathan than it is today and according to the Institute for Economics and Peace, Nigeria is more terrorized today than it was under Jonathan, it becomes clear that Bola Tinubu has no factual basis to make the claims he made,” he said.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/why-buhari-should-immediately-sanction.html Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose has condemned the earlier withdrawal of Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano’s security aides, describing the reinstatement directive by President Muhammadu Buhari as an afterthought. The governor, who said the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, could not have carried out such illegal act aimed at exposing Obiano to danger without the knowledge of the President, noted that; “For Nigerians to believe that the President was not aware, he must sanction the IGP for disrespecting his office.” Buhari yesterday directed the restoration of Obiano’s guards aides after the governor personally complained made a case to him. Before departing Awka, Buhari directed the Deputy Inspector General of Police (Operations), Joshak Habila to ensure that his directive was immediately effected. Idris had on Tuesday confirmed that he authorized the withdrawal of the Aide Camp (ADC) to Obiano. He spoke during Election Stakeholders’ Forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Awka. Idris explained that the development was based on the previous experience the police recorded whereby the military caught an ADC to “a governor” escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on Election Day. “We do not mean anything bad to Anambra governor on this action; his ADC will be returned to him early Sunday morning after the governorship election on Saturday November 18. “We have equally withdrawn all the policemen attached to political appointees, Local Government Chairmen and others in Anambra till after the election,” he said On Thursday, Fayose through his spokesman, Lere Olayinka, in a statement called on governors in the country to rise in condemnation of the IGP’s action saying; “because it happened to an APGA governor today, it can be PDP or even APC governor tomorrow.” He said; “Governors are not appendages of the President. They are heads of federating units in Nigeria and time has come for this military mentality of this APC government of President Buhari to stop. All governors in this country must jointly demand that the IGP be sanctioned if truly, President Buhari knew nothing about the withdrawal of Governor Obiano’s security aides.” The governor said it was even more ridiculous that the IGP tried to justify his action, asking; “would the IGP have also stripped President Buhari of his security aides if the election coming up on Saturday is a presidential election in which the president is seeking reelection?” “To me, President Buhari only ordered the reinstatement of Governor Obiano’s police aides because the Senate condemned it and directed the IGP to restore them. For Nigerians to believe that the President was not aware, he must sanction the IGP for disrespecting his office,” he said. While calling for the establishment of State police in the country, the governor said; “Withdrawal of Governor Obiano’s police aides has further reinforced the agitation for state police. “It is only in Nigeria that a governor that is called the Chief Security Officer of the State does not have control over your own security aides and this must be addressed.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/chibok-girls-parents-write-buhari.html Parents of Chibok schoolgirls still held in Boko Haram den have have written President Muhammadu Buhari over his “silence” concerning the fate of their missing daughters. In a letter addressed to the President, the parents lamented that 20 of them had died while waiting for the return of their girls. According to the letter dated November 12 and sent to the President, the parents jointly demanded the whereabouts and latest information about their daughters. Parts of the letter read, “When the 21 girls were rescued, we begged to be part of the reunion so we could hear about our missing daughters, but, we were denied that opportunity. “Again, when the 82 came home, we were so happy knowing very well that we could meet them and hear about our daughters, even if they are dead, so we could bring this to closure. “Again, we were denied the chance to meet them, till today. “We have been travelling to ask our local leaders to hear from them but no one seems interested in briefing us about any effort or action by the federal government, to secure the release of our daughters. We feel neglected. “When government promised to secure the release of the girls, repeatedly, we thought it won’t be long after the 82 girls were rescued, having seen how possible that was. “Right now, we are hopeless and more traumatised than before because, it seems the successes recorded are now considered as closure since no one is paying any attention to our grief. “We want government to deal directly with parents of the missing girls, let us know what next. “Do not stop us from meeting the rescued girls, we could hear words of comfort from our daughters, through them, and to know whether they are alive or not; for us to know the next step. “We have lost 20 of the parents, we don’t want to lose any one of us in this situation again. “Please, respond to our call.”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/senate-moves-to-provide-loans-for.html The Senate on Wednesday asked the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to restore the security aides of the Governor of Anambra State, Willie Obiano, with immediate effect. Obiano had on Tuesday raised the alarm that his security aides have been withdrawn ahead of the governorship election in Anambra State. The election holds on Saturday, November 18. At the resumption of Senate plenary on Wednesday, Senator Abiodun Olujinmi, raised a point of order over the matter in Anambra State. She condemned removal of the security of a sitting governor, saying such not only exposes Obiano to attacks, it also portends grave danger for democracy. Idris yesterday confirmed that he authorized the withdrawal of the Aide Camp (ADC) to Obiano. Idris spoke during Election Stakeholders’ Forum organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Tuesday in Awka. The IG explained that the development was based on the previous experience the police recorded whereby the military caught an ADC to “a governor” escorting a vehicle loaded with arms on Election Day. “We do not mean anything bad to Anambra governor on this action; his ADC will be returned to him early Sunday morning after the governorship election on Saturday November 18. “We have equally withdrawn all the policemen attached to political appointees, Local Government Chairmen and others in Anambra till after the election,” he said.

@TITOPE-BLOG http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/nigeria-polytechnic-lecturers-begin.html The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, said it will commence a “total and comprehensive indefinite” strike today over the federal government’s failure to fulfil the outstanding agreement made with the union. The National President of the union, Usman Dutse, on Sunday said, there was a meeting between the union and the ministry of labour on October 16, with an agreement to develop a memorandum of understanding to resolve the issues but that they have not heard from the other party. “We were told by the federal ministry of labour that a memorandum of understanding will be given, but we’ve not gotten one till date and that is why our members say there is no seriousness on the side of the government,” he said. Dutse said another meeting with the federal government had been scheduled for Wednesday, November 15. “All academic activities will be suspended during the strike,” he said. “Our union is constrained to lament that our sector is on the verge of collapse and needs all the emergency attention it urgently deserves,” he added.

@TITOPE-BLOG http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/2019-presidency-reconcile-with-obasanjo.html Former President Goodluck Jonathan has advised Presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubbakar to seek reconciliation with ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo if his dream of becoming President must be realized. Jonathan described Obasanjo as the boss of bosses in the Nigerian political space. The former Bayelsa Governor said any “politician who ignores Obasanjo does so at its own peril.” He called on Atiku to find a way of courting his former boss, if he must realise his presidential ambition. Atiku, Vice-President during Obasanjo’s eight years regime, fell out with his former boss towards the end of the administration. Jonathan pointed out that it would be impossible for Atiku to realise his presidential ambition on the platform of the APC. He noted that the former Vice-President’s chances of becoming President in 2019 would be bright if he contested on the platform of the PDP. Jonathan was quoted to have said this in an interview he recently granted the Ovation Magazine, published by Dele Momodu. “He (Atiku) can’t get the APC ticket. If Atiku gets our party (PDP ) ticket, he would compete well,” Jonathan reportedly said. “He’s always a passionate politician . But he would have to reach out to our boss, Baba OBJ, the boss of all bosses. “We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore OBJ at your own peril. OBJ has the magic wand, respected at home and abroad,” Jonathan said.

@TITOPE-BLOG http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/what-wike-wanted-to-do-to-amaechi-tonye.html A former governorship aspirant in Rivers State and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the State, Tonye Princewill has reacted to the clash between Governor Nyesom Wike and Rotimi Amaechi’s convoys. Princewill claimed that Wike’s outrider pulled a pistol and attempted to assassinate the Transport Minister but for his bullet proof jeep. Reports emerged yesterday that the two political gladiators clashed in the Trans Amadi axis of the state. Aides to both political leaders have also given different accounts of the incident to the favour of the principals. But in a statement in Port Harcourt, the state capital, Princewill said, “I am at a loss if this was not an assassination attempt on the Minister, somebody should explain to me in a clearer sentence why Wike’s despatch rider (outrider) failed to stop the two security vehicles of the Minister which had already crossed but decided for whatever reasons to block the vehicle in which the Minister was driving? “Why was Amaechi who was behind the steering to navigate his vehicle out of danger accosted by two security men from the Governor’s convoy who had pulled out their pistol and gun to shoot him. “Why did these men of darkness after realising that the vehicle that the Minister was driving was a Bullet Proof resort to hitting the jeep with the butt of their guns and in the process broke the right driving mirror and attempted to break Amaechi’s windscreen and after which he pulled his pistol to kill Amaechi?”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/alleged-embezzlement-fashola-finally.html The Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, has condemned what he described as ‘unverified allegations’ raised by a senator against his ministry. Dino Melaye, the senator representing Kogi West, had accused the ministry of mismanaging funds to the tune of $35 million and another attempt to break away with $350 million Eurobond. Reacting to the allegations, the minister in a statement personally signed on Thursday, said he would cooperate with the Senate as he and his staff has done nothing wrong in management of the said fund. “With all emphasis, I state that there is no factual basis for the allegations,” he said. “The ministry, my staff and I have done nothing wrong and we will collaborate fully with the investigating committee when called upon,” he added. He alleged an ulterior motive in the presentation of the allegations, as the senator made different allegations while raising it as a petition, and later as a motion. “The Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority (NSIA) had on Monday, 6th November 2017 issued a statement on the front page of The Nation Newspaper explaining that the money was not missing, stating also that the $350 million had been invested and that interest had even accrued on the money. “If there was no ulterior motive for the allegation, this was enough reason for a reconsideration of the presentation of the motion on the floor of the Senate on the 8th of November 2017. “But the story seemed to have changed from “missing money” last week, to a “desperate attempt to retrieve the money “, this week.” “They offered to do this by providing Nigeria with mobile turbines of 600MW if we could find a location with Gas and Transmission evacuation infrastructure. The Afam Power Station fitted because it had transmission and evacuation facilities but all its turbines had been virtually run down. “The investment was contingent on paying $27,990,000 million which was 15% of 8 (eight) units of 30MW turbines each totalling 240MW valued at about $186,600,000:00. “This payment of $27.9m was made without breaching any law. “At this moment, the turbines have arrived Nigeria and currently at the Onne Port. This is verifiable just as works are on going on the site – civil and engineering – preparing to receive the turbines , and install other equipment already at site.”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/efcc-stalling-suswans-trial-lawyer.html Elizabeth Ogbozor, counsel to former Benue State Governor, Gabriel Suswam, says the arrest and detention of his client by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has stalled his trial in the alleged N3.1b corruption charges brought against him by the Federal government. Although, Suswam’s trial was billed to commence on Thursday before Justice Ahmed Rahmat Mohammed of the Federal High Court in Abuja, Ogbozor lamented that Suswan was being subjected to incessant arrests and detention by various security agencies. The lawyer told the court that the leader of the defense team, Joseph Daudu SAN, was not prepared for the trial of Suswam and had indeed scheduled himself for another matter at the Court of Appeal in Abuja because of Suswam’s detention. The counsel told Justice Mohammed that Daudu SAN was not aware that his client was granted administrative bail by EFCC on Wednesday night, adding that the hope of having the defendant before the court had been foreclosed because of the EFCC’s refusal to allow his bail earlier in the week “We have been at a loss as to the direction of this trial because the defendant (Suswam) had been in the custody of EFCC in the past six days. “It is a big surprise to us to see Suswam in court this morning because we are unaware of his release on Wednesday night”, he said. The counsel told the court that the lead counsel had therefore instructed her to seek for an adjournment of the trial till November 23. However, EFCC’s counsel, Mr. Rotimi Jacobs SAN, admitted that Suswam was detained by his client but that the detention was based on another huge amount of money paid to the defendant by the former Minister of Petroleum, Allison Diezani Madueke to execute the 2015 general election for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State. Jacobs told the court that Suswam was released on administrative bail on Tuesday after making statements to the anti-graft agency and that he was only able to perfect the bail condition on Wednesday. Rather than adjourning the trial, the EFCC counsel pleaded for a stand down of the trial which the judge granted for four hours. However, when the reality dawned on the court that Suswam’s lead counsel will not be able to make it to the court yesterday, the trial was put off till November 22. Justice Mohammed however, warned that no one should cast aspersions or blame the court for the delay in the trial, adding that early in the year, Suswam was similarly arrested by the Department of State Service (DSS) and was detained for close to six months on allegations of possessing guns unlawfully. Suswam and the Finance Commissioner under his administration Omodachi Okolobia are standing trial for allegedly defrauding Benue state government the sum of N3.1bn while in office. They were on November 10, 2015 arraigned before Justice Ahmed Mohammed of the Federal High Court, Abuja on a 9-count charge bordering on allegations of financial impropriety and money laundering. |

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/pdp-chairmanship-efcc-case-wont-affect.html A former governor of Ogun State and aspirant to the national chairmanship seat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has affirmed that his ongoing case with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, will not affect his effectiveness if he emerges the party boss. Speaking to newsmen after collecting his nomination form for the post at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja yesterday, he also decried what he said was persecution against him and other PDP members. Daniel also added that he could not be said to be guilty until a competent court pronounces him so. Initially reluctant to speak on the matter, he said: “I don’t want to talk about my trial. People call it prosecution, I call it persecution. “But I think there are a few things that are instructive. This trial had been going on for the past nearly seven years. I have been to court probably 40 times. “It is prosecution that is still prosecuting but they still have not finished presenting their case. I think that is instructive. “In as much as I don’t want to talk about it, the only thing I want to say is that according to the Nigerian Law and constitution, a person remains innocent until pronounced guilty or otherwise by a court of competent jurisdiction. “I don’t want to go into the politics of our own state but I am very sure that there is really no issue about my trial. If there is an issue, I will not come to say I want to be chairman.” “And when you look at what is going on now in our country, who is in PDP that is not being tried? Virtually everybody who is in PDP is being tried for one thing or the other.”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/i-have-never-told-lie-before-lai.html Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has said that he has never told a lie before. He made this disclosure yesterday during an interactive session with journalists in Lagos. The Minister also challenged those branding him a liar to present concrete facts disputing whatever he had said before. Mohammed said: “I have two burdens. The first is that I happen to be the face of the opposition, and PDP has not forgiven me, and I do not think they will ever forgive me. “I think they look at the magnitude of what has happened to them, and they hold me solely responsible; which is not fair. “But, I did my bit. Now becoming the face of government again, it is automatic to them that whatever comes from Lai Mohammed, we must shoot it down as fake news and a lie “Incidentally, my father gave me the name Lai, also. So, it makes it very easy for them to make me a liar. But what I challenge them every time is, please, give me one thing I said that is not true. I have never told lies before. He added: “Emotionally, you may not agree with me, but in terms of facts and figures, I have never said anything that they can be disputed. You do not have to like it, but you cannot deny that they are facts.”

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/2018-us-pledges-to-ensure-free-fair.html The United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Stuart Symington has assured that his country will work with all stakeholders in order to ensure that July 14, 2018 gubernatorial election in Ekiti State is free, fair and credible. This was also as he commended the governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on laudable infrastructural development in the state. Symington, who visited governor Fayose alongside his aide, Mima Torres, and was received with pomp at the Ayoba House in the governor office, said he was impressed with the patriotic zeal of Nigerians, saying: “Nigerians are proud to be Nigerians, when you ask them what they love most about their country, they would say it is our resilience, energy, diversity, unity and friendliness.” The U.S envoy who told governor Fayose that his three years in office has been keenly observed by the U.S, said the infrastructural development strides of the governor is commendable. Stating the purpose for his visit to the state, Symington said: “We are in Ekiti because we believe in Nigeria, every state, every corner matters. We have seen what you have done in the last three years, it is very commendable. Our concern in U.S is that we want to see leaders who care about others and not themselves. We also understand that you have presidential ambition and wish to know your programme for the country.” Symington also urged Fayose to ensure support for Ekiti women who are interested in Agriculture. He stressed on the need for free, fair and credible elections , and promised that the U.S will ensure that subsequent elections in Nigeria, particularly in Anambra and Ekiti States are free, fair and credible. ” The U.S will work with other stakeholders to ensure that elections are free, fair and credible in Nigeria. We believe that we must have elections where people will be ready and willing to participate in, that is, a peaceful and orderly election, “Symington said. Responding, Governor Fayose reminded the U.S envoy of his letter which described the June 21, 2014 governorship election that produced him as free, fair and credible and a template for 2015 general elections. He said the major problem retarding the growth of the country was poor attitude by the people and the insincerity of leaders. He decried a situation where those claiming to be fighting corruption do so with some people being their targets. He recalled that despite many allegations and petitions against the immediate past governor of the state, Dr Kayode Fayemi, he has not been investigated or charged to court because he is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress. He also decried the various intimidation, harassment and illegal detention of Ekiti government officials by the federal government agents. “Our greatest challenge is not corruption but insincerity of leaders. Those claiming to fight corruption are not sincere. Without justice, we can’t move forward. There must be equity in the way we do things. Being selective in the fight against corruption will not take us anywhere. On his presidential ambition, Fayose assured the U.S envoy that he is eminently qualified to rule the nation: “I have the required experience to lead this country. I have worked with the presidents we have elected into office in this country and am able to manage the economy of my state despite lean resources. In the US and the UK they ask you your experience when seeking for a job not your paper qualifications. I have managed a poor economy in my state and that shows my ability to deliver,” he said. On the coming governorship election in the state, Fayose said the opposition would not be able to win 10 out of the 177 wards in the state. He urged the U.S to ensure the Nigerian government allows a free and fair election. He assured that his government and party would play the game with fairness. “We are in firm control and the people are in our support. We just want to appeal to America and the international community to keep an eye on the poll. We don’t want INEC to come to our state with preloaded card readers or manipulate the process. We are sure to repeat the victory of 2014 when we won on all local government areas,” he stated. The governor also urged the U.S envoy to give special consideration to Ekiti indigenes who are awarded government scholarship for studies and training in the U.S, saying denying them visas on grounds that they may not return isn’t helping the situation. He assured U.S that all indigenes whose traveling is okayed by his government are well behaved people.

http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/11/2019-umar-ado-reveals-what-will-happen.html Umar Ardo, former Special Assistant to ex-Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Local Government and State Affairs, has said ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo will fight Abubakar should the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, field him during the 2019 Presidential election. The former Presidential aide maintained that Abubakar’s return to the PDP will lead to the eruption of enemies. Speaking with journalists in Abuja, on Tuesday, the PDP Chieftain stressed that the PDP was better off without the former Vice President. According to Ardo, “Along with the friends that Atiku will be coming with to the party is also those that will bring up enemies. “For instance, it is an open secret and everybody knows it that Obasanjo will fight him. “I think I will conclude that PDP will be better off without Atiku coming back.” Ardo was earlier reported to have said the return of Waziri of Adamawa would lead to conflict within the party and turn party members against themselves. He said, “There are three disadvantages. We learnt that Atiku is coming back to the party with an ambition; an ambition to contest for the Presidency. “Now that will be a source of conflict because there are others in the party who are also interested and they are nursing this ambition. There will be conflict among party members. “Secondly, the deep pocket that Atiku has will not only serve that ambition, it will also deepen the conflict. The third disadvantage is that those foot soldiers will also serve the ambition and in the process deepen the conflict.”
