PoliticsWike, A Comedian, Worst Rivers Governor – APC by olajay86(op): 7:47am On Aug 29, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/wike-comedian-worst-rivers-governor-apc.html

The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress, APC, has declared Rivers state Nyesom Wike as the worst Governor in the history of the State.

This is just as it dismissed his excuse for poor performance as untenable.

Governor Wike had recently blamed the current economic recession in the country for his administration’s failure to live up to expectation and the INEC and Police for the misfortunes of PDP in the elections of the state.

Meanwhile, the APC in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Chief Davies Ibiamu Ikanya said Wike was the main cause of the misfortune of the PDP in Rivers state.

Ikanya in the statement said Governor Wike does not understand the dynamics of development.

The statement reads, “Wike blaming the Police and INEC for PDP’s current misfortune in Rivers State and loss of most of her National and State Assembly members in the Appeal Court as not only unfortunate but a calculated attempt to excuse himself as the main culprit for PDP’s misfortune in the State. The Party also described Wike’s excuse for his failure to develop the State as unfortunate, sad and unacceptable because many other states have been recording great achievements despite also experiencing economic recession.

“A few examples would suffice: Governor Atiku Baguda of Kebbi has achieved stable power supply in 16 LGAs and also established the Rice Pyramid (Lake Rice) in partnership with Lagos. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos s set to launch 5,000 new buses in Lagos, in addition to numerous other feats.

“On his part, Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River can boast of setting up the biggest Garment Factory in Africa, the Rice City Project and Calabar Monorail, while Governor Udom Emmanuel of Akwa Ibom has set up the First Pencil Factory in Nigeria, Led Factory and Automobile Assembly Plant.

“Instead of emulating these great leaders, our noisy and unprepared Governor Wike is celebrating the construction of Motor Park, Pleasure Park, Market, and Ecumenical Center. These were some of the projects which he wanted a whole Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to commission for him.”

“The whole world can now better understand why Wike has turned the Garden City into the Garbage City. We can now understand why Wike has turned our once peaceful State to Rivers of Blood where killing and beheading of innocent people is now the order of the day.

“We can now understand why Wike decided to use our funds to fund his dying party, PDP, instead of paying the salaries of our civil servants and pensioners. We can now understand why Wike has decided to destroy our educational system that Amaechi put on a sound footing. Wike has stopped the scholarship scheme initiated by Amaechi to ensure that no Rivers child is left uneducated.

“He has stopped the use of over 350 model schools constructed by Amaechi’s Administration so that he can embark upon the construction of his 175 non-existent schools to enable him siphon public funds.

“Because Wike has nothing to offer, he has destroyed the Banana Plantation, The Buguma Fish Industry, the Songhai Agriculture revolution and other industries set up by Amaechi to generate funds for the State and provide employment for our teeming undergraduates.

“Wike has only succeeded to turn himself into Mr. Disaster, which he has deservedly earned as the worst Governor in the annals of Rivers State. His stand contradicts the position of Dr. Dakuku Peterside, the APC candidate for the 2015 governorship election, who has a well-documented blueprint which he tagged ‘Road To Prosperity’. This roadmap by this visionary would have made Rivers State one of the most developed states in Nigeria by now.

“Wike is a man bereft of ideas and we hold former President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, and others who imposed this incompetent man on our once flourishing State responsible for the shocking reversal of development in our beloved State.”

The statement read, “For almost two hours, President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday received briefing from the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, the Minister of Finance, Mrs. Kemi Adeosun, and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN ), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, after which a delighted President declared that he was pleased with the progress being made on different fronts.

An Ikeja Chief Magistrate’s’ Court on Monday arraigned a 20-year-old man, Muyideen Olagunju, for allegedly stealing a motorcycle valued at N100,000.

Olagunju, who lives at No. 8, Miliki St., Mushin, Lagos, is facing a 2-count-charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the accused committed the offences on June 13, at about 8.00p.m. at Idi-Oro, Lagos.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs O. A. Layinka, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 with one surety in like sum.

She then adjourned the case until Sept. 5 for trial.

PoliticsWhy I’m Against Restructuring Of Nigeria – Obasanjo by olajay86(op): 11:20am On Aug 26, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/why-im-against-restructuring-of-nigeria.html

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has distanced himself from the clamour for the restructuring of Nigeria by some section of Nigerians.

Obasanjo, who faulted the call said what Nigeria needs now is not restructuring of the country but that of individual mentality.

He made his stance known on the sidelines of the African Leadership Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The former President said Nigerians should restructure their minds before calling for restructuring of the country.

Obasanjo said Nigerians’ focus should be on how to include everyone in a nation that is already well endowed.

He said, “We have to restructure our mentality, we have to restructure our minds we have to restructure our understanding of Nigeria, what country do we want and if we decide on what country we want, how do we get that country, all hands on deck.

“How do we get inclusive, how do we get every Nigerian feeling a sense of having a stake in the country.”

PoliticsBiafra: Buhari Should Listen To Nnamdi Kanu – Amaechi by olajay86(op): 11:01am On Aug 26, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/biafra-buhari-should-listen-to-nnamdi.html

First Republic politician, Chief Mbazulike Amaechi, has reacted to the marching order given to Service Chiefs by President Muhammadu Buhari to crush Biafra agitators.

The former Aviation Minister said the order was superficial and biased as it focuses on the utterances and activities of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu, but remains mute to those of other ethnic groups that clearly violated Nigerian laws.

He spoke to Sun, saying “If I wake up and say, I would go and blow up Aso Rock, would I be arrested, or when I march to Aso Rock fully armed?

“Why the focus on Nnamdi Kanu, what of the other Arewa yoths who are committing similar or more grievous offences? What has been done to them?

“If Kanu breaks the law, let him be punished, not when he is unarmed and just making statement that his people are not being treated fairly.

“What Kanu is saying is that Igbo want to go, if you don’t agree with him, put it to plebiscite. That is how it has been done in other places.

“Scotland said it wanted to leave United Kingdom, and they put it to plebiscite, majority said they didn’t want to go away.

“I don’t see why it should be different in Nigeria. Plebiscite does not amount to war.

“In America, since Donald Trump came to power, two states have expressed the desire to quit US, has anybody killed them?

“The only thing is that when the demand becomes serious, the government will give the opportunity for the people to decide.

“What has been done to the Arewa youth who said their leaders were the ones who asked them to issue the quit notice?

“Yes, we know who is sending them to do what they are doing, the politicians are behind them and we are not deceived.

“What of those behind the anti-Igbo songs, what has the government done to them? What efforts have the security agencies made to bring them to book?”

PhonesCyber Security, Protection Of Privacy Rights A Journey, Not Destination – Danbat by olajay86(op): 5:55pm On Aug 25, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/cyber-security-protection-of-privacy.html

The Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC, Professor Umar Danbatta has described the notion of cyber security and protection of privacy rights under the cyber law as a journey and not a destination.

He, therefore, called on all stakeholders in the industry to make Nigeria move faster and steadily in the journey.

Danbatta made this remark while contributing as a panelist at the ongoing Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Annual General Conference (AGC) in Lagos in a paper he entitled: The Business Of Cyber Law, Internet Policy And Privacy Rights.

At the Conference, which focused on “African Businesses: Penetrating Through Institution Building,” the NCC boss noted that rapid developments in the ICT sector and the attendant challenges of security and privacy rights called for greater collaboration of all stakeholders to deal with all threats.

Danbatta added that Nigeria lost 127 billion naira to cybercrime in 2015, ranking third highest after United States and the United Kingdom.

Speaking further, Danbatta said the promise of ICT as an enabler of development explains the prominence of the promotion of ICT Innovation and Investment Opportunities in the NCC Management’s 8-Point Agenda.

He appealed that NBA and other advocacy groups to support the awareness campaigns toward the speedy passage of a harmonised data protection law for Nigeria.

Danbatta also recommended data end-to-end encryption and back up; as well as the strengthening of the capacity of agencies in the security sector and in the administration of justice to monitor and enforce the existing laws.

PoliticsNigerian Govt Orders NBC To Sanction TV, Radio Stations Over Hate Speech by olajay86(op): 6:41pm On Aug 24, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/nigerian-govt-orders-nbc-to-sanction-tv.html

Nigerian government has directed the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) to sanction any radio or television station that broadcasts hate speech.

Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, issued the directive in Abuja on Thursday at the 3rd Annual Lecture Series of the NBC.

He said: “The challenges facing the NBC have never become more daunting, considering the increasing propensity of some radio and television stations across the country to turn over their platforms to the purveyors of hate speech.

“It is the responsibility of the NBC to put these broadcast stations in check before they set the country on fire.

“As the NBC celebrates what is a milestone – a quarter of a century – in its existence, I urge the Commission to redouble its efforts in discharging its mandate.

“The NBC must ensure a strict adherence to the Broadcasting Code, and errant stations must be sanctioned accordingly to serve as a deterrent. The nation looks up to the NBC to restore sanity to the broadcast industry.

“The Commission cannot afford to do any less at this critical time. It cannot afford to fail the nation,” he said.

Mohammed, who cited the role played by a radio station in fueling the genocide in Rwanda in 1994, which led to the loss of over 800,000 lives in 100 days, charged the NBC not to allow the purveyors of hate speech to lead Nigeria to the path of destruction.

“If you tune into many radio stations, for example, you will be shocked by the things being said, the careless incitement to violence and the level of insensitivity to the multi-religious, multi-ethnic nature of our country.

“Unfortunately, even some of the hosts of such radio programmes do little or nothing to stop such incitements. Oftentimes, they are willing collaborators of hate speech campaigners.

“This must not be allowed to continue because it is detrimental to the unity and well-being of our country,” he warned.

He said the purveyors of hate speech are also deliberately giving the impression that the Buhari Administration has not achieved anything since assuming office in May 2015.

“Despite operating with just 45% of the funds available to the immediate past Administration, due largely to the fall in oil prices in our mono-product economy and the failure to save for the rainy day, this government has achieved so much more in so short a time.

“To put things in perspective, a country that has consistently produced more oil than Nigeria, despite having about one sixth of the Nigerian population, is today embroiled in the worst economic crisis in its history.

“With Nigeria being affected by the same downturn in oil prices, coupled with years of mismanagement of the country’s economy and looting of treasury by public officials, why is Nigeria not in similar crisis as the country in question? My answer is simple: Because Nigeria has a President like Muhammadu Buhari,” Mohammed added.

PoliticsBuhari: Why Fani-kayode, Fayose Want President Dead – Presidency [VIDEO] by olajay86(op): 5:02pm On Aug 23, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/buhari-why-fani-kayode-fayose-want.html

President Muhammadu Buhari’s Personal Assistant on Social Media, Lauretta Onochie, has alleged that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State and former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode want the president dead.

Onochie claimed that the two Peopes Democratic Party, PDP, Chieftains want Buhari dead because “the law” is after them for various financial crimes.

In a video which surfaced online, the Presidential aide said, “We know them, FFK, Fayose and the likes of them. I am not afraid to mention names. We know what they have said in this nation.

“We were here in this nation when Fayose’s SA on media, Lere Olayinka came on social media and announced the death of president Buhari.

“We know where all these things are coming from and why they are doing that because the laws are after them.

“But, he, Buhari, is not after them, if you break the law, it will come after you, that is what normally happens.

“They said it’s only members of the PDP that the laws are going after, well we did not serve in the past government so we have no access to public funds so who why will they come after us?

“The law wouldn’t come after me since I wasn’t in government and had no access to public funds.

“I have mentioned their names and I’m not afraid to. They want him out of the way but as we say in Nigeria, ‘God pass dem.’

Onochie’s claim is coming at a time when Buhari, after spending 101 days in London treating an undisclosed illness returned to the country.

PoliticsBoko Haram: How I Risked My Life To Save 5 Nigerian Soldiers – Hussaini Mafa by olajay86(op): 3:10pm On Aug 23, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/boko-haram-how-i-risked-my-life-to-save.html

Hussaini Mafa is a resident of Maduganari ward of Maiduguri metropolis. Before now, he was a farmer and living a comfortable life with his wife and children in Baga town until Boko Haram insurgents capture Baga and the people fled to Maiduguri.

In a chat with DAILY POST in Maiduguri, Mafa, who farms onions and and used to make nothing less than 10 to 15 trucks at the end of the farming season, now helps to carry blocks as a labourer at a building site in Maiduguri.

Recalling the dark days that brought about his new life, Mafa told DAILY POST that, they fled alongside soldiers when Boko Haram invaded Baga town.

“I took nothing from my house aside what my wife took for the children for the journey. I saved five soldiers who ran to my house when they were overwhelmed by Boko Haram during the fight that forced us out of our homes. I gave them my cloths. They went and buried their uniforms and guns in the bush and joiedn me and my family for the journey on foot to Maidugur,.” he said.

According to Mafa, they were very lucky to have been allowed passage by Boko Haram militants at that time because people from Cross-Kawa in Kukawa local government did not carry sticks to join the civilian JTF in fighting Boko Haram.

“That time, once you said, you were from Cross-Kawa, the insurgents would allow you to go. But they would kill anyone who is not from there, especially soldiers. I took a very high risk allowing the soldiers to follow us. I put my life and that of my family on the line for these soldiers. Luckily, we made it to town together. However, the horror of that day is still fresh in my mind.

” We saw soldiers dropping their guns and begging for their lives, yet Boko Haram slaughtered them. It was a horrific experience. The last time I visited Baga after the military recaptured the area, I found nothing in the rubble of the remains of what used to be my own house.

” At the time we fled, I left behind 7 cows, 19 herds of sheep, 82 bags of Maize, 60 bags of Beans, 49 bags of groundnut and over 300 bags of onions from my farm. This is how God has put my faith to test. I lost everything, but I still have my life and I am healthy,” he added.

Hussaini Mafa, told our correspondent that, if normalcy finally returns to the northern Borno, he was ready to go back and start life afresh.

He, however, said that the killing of fishermen recently in Baga has confirmed his fear of return and hope that the crises of Boko Haram will end soon as he loves to farm and is looking ahead for the day he would return to his farm again.

PoliticsBuhari: Five Key Issues President Failed To Address In Nationwide Broadcast by olajay86(op): 1:14pm On Aug 21, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/buhari-five-key-issues-president-failed.html

As Nigerians continue to react to the Monday morning presidential address by Muhammadu Buhari following his return from the United Kingdom, there are pressing issues Nigerians expected President Buhari to address, but he was silent about them, creating doubts and fears in the minds of many, especially in the social media.

The President addressed Nigeria on Monday following his return to the country from London after spending over 100 days on medical vacation.

While some Nigerians have applauded the president for the speech and termed it a summary of what is expected in few days, some Nigerians have on the other end rated the speech low following his inability to provide details of action-plan.

Analysts have, however, pointed out that they expected President Buhari to give more details about his intention, whether good or bad, especially if he has a clean bill of health.

But his media aides, Femi Adesina and Garba Shehu have since defended the speech, saying, Nigerians are already aware of all that have gone wrong while the president was away, and that going into the nitty-gritty was unnecessary. They said that in a couple of days, it would become visibly clear what Buhari will do, now that he is back.

1.The President did not mention anything on his health status as Nigerians need to know the status and whether Buhari will go for another follow up. Recall that in his address after the first medical vacation, the president had made it clear that he would return for further treatment as advised by his doctor.

2. The President failed to give hope to the striking Academic Staff Union of University – ASUU. The university lecturers have been on strike for over a week now.

3. President Buhari did not discuss the Nigerian economy, on whether it’s recovering or still stagnant. He also failed to say if Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo has carried on well or not.

4. During his stay in the United Kingdom, the attention of Nigerians was drawn to certain hyenas and jackals in the Presidency by Aisha Buhari and Senator Shehu Sani, where wife of the President promised that his husband will return and remove them from the government, but Buhari did not speak on the cabals.

5. TITOPE BLOG also understands that there have been speculations of cabinet rejig in various quarters, but the President was silent on that during his address. Garba Shehu had while addressing same, said the president did not announce his cabinet in a national broadcast, hence the rejig will come on its own, and not during the national address.

PoliticsBuhari: Five Things The President Promised To Do by olajay86(op): 10:07am On Aug 21, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/buhari-five-things-president-promised.html

In a nationwide broadcast on Monday, President Muhammadu Buhari expressed joy to be back home after three months of medical vacation in London.

In the six-minute-17-second speech, the president promised to hit the ground running by doing the following:

1. Vows to fight for Nigeria’s unity

He said, “Nigeria’s unity is settled and not negotiable. We shall not allow irresponsible elements to start trouble and when things get bad they run away and saddle others with the responsibility of bringing back order, if necessary with their blood.”

2. Fight against quit notices

The President in his speech asserted that every Nigerian has the right to live and pursue his business anywhere in Nigeria without let or hindrance.

His words, “This is not to deny that there are legitimate concerns. Every group has a grievance. But the beauty and attraction of a federation is that it allows different groups to air their grievances and work out a mode of co-existence.”

3. To crush Boko Haram, other terrorists

He vowed that terrorists and criminals must be fought and destroyed relentlessly so that the majority of Nigerians can live in peace and safety.

He added, “Therefore we are going to reinforce and reinvigorate the fight not only against elements of Boko Haram which are attempting a new series of attacks on soft targets kidnappings, farmers versus herdsmen clashes.”

4. Economic security, political evolution

As the president settles to resume office, he promised to work on economic security, political evolution and integration.

PoliticsPresidency Should Be Rotated Among 6 Geo-political Zones – Patrick Obahagbon [VI by olajay86(op): 9:38am On Aug 18, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/presidency-should-be-rotated-among-6.html

The former chief of staff to Edo State governor, Patrick Obahiagbon, has said that for Nigeria to attain to greatness, she must create a stable ground for economic justice, rule of law and permit ‘presidency’ to be rotational for a period of time among the six known geo-political zones in the country

He stated this while featuring in Good Morning Nigeria breakfast show on NTA.

Obahiagbon equally said that supremacy of the law, constitutionalism, federalizing security matters and giving legal teeth to restructuring and devolution of powers to states and local governments will not only make Nigeria move forward but to be first to attain greatness amongst nations.

He urged government to re-visit and adopt the 2014 national confab and organize a meeting for Islams (Muslims) and Christians whom he said had constituted quantum of problems in the nation building by struggling for religious hegemony and political supremacy.

He said: “I believe we need to have an incremental devolution of powers and that is the only way to go.

“The Presidency of the country should be rotated for a period of time among the six geo-political regions.

“You must equally federalize security matters. A situation where Abuja sits in mountain Olympus and expects that they know grassroots policing is no longer realizable.”

SportsBarcelona Vs Real Madrid: Cristiano Ronaldo Faces 12-match Ban After Red Card by olajay86(op): 7:48am On Aug 14, 2017
http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/08/barcelona-vs-real-madrid-cristiano.html

Real Madrid forward, Cristiano Ronaldo, could be suspended for up to 12 matches after referee Ricardo de Burgos Bengoetxea included the Real Madrid star’s shove in his match report.

Ronaldo was shown a second yellow card for what Bengoetxea deemed to be a dive inside the penalty area.

He had booked the Portugal captain moments earlier, after he ripped off his shirt when he made it 2-1 with a stunning drive.

After he was shown the red card, the 32-year-old momentarily lost his cool and shoved the referee.

Bengoetxea included the altercation in his post-game match report, writing: “Player: Cristiano Ronaldo Dos Santos Aveiro. Once the red card was shown, the player pushed me slightly in a sign of disagreement.”

The shove could trigger a ban of up to 12 matches under Article 96 of the Spanish federation’s rule book, which deals with “Slight violence towards referees”.

Article 96 applies to players who “grab, push or shake” a referee in a manner that is “slightly violent”, and recommends a suspension of 4-12 matches for the action.

Ronaldo’s fate is now in the hands of the Spanish federation’s competition committee, who will decide how many games he would be banned for, in addition to the one-game ban from his red card.

The Humanitarian Coordinator for Nigeria, Edward Kallon, has condemned the “unauthorized search” of a United Nations base for humanitarian workers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

This is contained in a statement the world body sent to DAILY POST on Friday.

It said at 5am on Friday, members of the Nigerian security forces entered the UN base for humanitarian workers in Maiduguri “without authorization”.

“The security forces carried out a search of the tented camp and left the area at 0800 hours.

“The United Nations does not have any information at this time regarding the reason or motivations for the unauthorized search.

“The Humanitarian Coordinator is working closely with the Government of Nigeria to resolve this issue.

“The humanitarian crisis in Nigeria’s north-east is one of the most severe in the world today,” said Mr Kallon.

“I am extremely concerned that these actions could be detrimental to the critical work that is being carried out every day to support the most vulnerable in the region and I call upon the Government of Nigeria to provide clarification.”

The United Nations and more than 50 non-governmental humanitarian organisations are working in support of the Government of Nigeria to provide aid, including food, safe water and medicine, to some 6.9 million people in need in the northeast.
