Robert Jobson a New York Times best-selling author shared his opinion in an article with Mirror Prince Harry and his actress girlfriend Meghan Markle have certainly got tongues wagging. Holding hands in the Caribbean sunshine at the wedding of his best Tom Inskip, they looked every inch a couple, a picture of happiness. Now that the stunning actress, who stars in US television drama Suits, is being heavily tipped as the next royal bride. But some killjoys are already trying to find fault in the match. Ironically Jamaica, where Harry introduced his girl to his ‘crew’, is where Meghan wed her first husband movie producer Trevor Engelson. The marriage lasted two years. Some suggest her status as a divorcee, her black ancestry and even her chosen profession make her unsuitable. Utter nonsense. The mischief makers cite the Princess Margaret and divorcee Group Captain Peter Townsend debacle of 1955, saying Meghan’s failed marriage makes her marrying Harry tricky. Others harp back to the Abdication of 1936 when King Edward VIII was barred from marrying Wallis Simpson and keeping the Crown, saying that Harry and Meghan’s path to marriage would be blocked. Again, utter nonsense. Times, thankfully, have moved on. So have the Queen and the Royal Family. Our next King and Queen Consort, Prince Charles and Camilla, after all, are both divorcees (not to mention the Duke of York and Princess Royal). So too are millions of the subjects they will serve. There is no doubt Harry is one of the most popular members of the Royal Family. His charm, warmth, courage, humour and abilities – like his late mother Diana, Princess of Wales – appeals across the spectrum of class and country. Most people just want that little boy - now a man - to find happiness. He has had his issues with drugs and rebellion. But he overcame them. He has served his Queen and Country as a soldier with distinction and won the respect of his peers. In love, Harry now 32 - one of the world’s most eligible bachelors - has enjoyed a couple of long term relationships – with Zimbabwean heiress Chelsy Davy and dancer/actress Cressida Bonas. Both relationships fizzled out. Harry felt they weren’t helped by paparazzi intrusion. His relationship with Meghan seems different, stronger, more to withstand such understandable media interest. Meghan too seems more robust and capable of dealing with media attention. Her media profile is strong too. She writes, she promotes herself online as well as acts. The fact that Harry seems more relaxed to be seen out with his girlfriend and that she is happy to stay at his London home Nottingham Cottage, Kensington Palace for weeks on end, shows this is his most significant relationship to date. Many remember the lost, heart broken little boy holding his father’s hand as he walked behind his mother’s coffin too to her funeral service at Westminster Abbey. Meghan has met many members of his family too. Harry, in interviews, has made no secret that when he meets the right woman he would love to settle down and have children. He seems smitten with Meghan and she with him. He is fantastic when he interact with kids, he has a natural empathy with them. As Meghan is 35, she and Harry know the clock is ticking if they want to start a family. Now, in the sunshine of Montego Bay they have socialised openly as a couple. Make no mistake this is a very significant step up in their relationship. They are now odds on to marry. The bookies are even taking bets on their future titles – with the Duke and Duchess of Clarence or Sussex favourites. If they do marry, I think a carbon copy of his father’s wedding to Camilla would be the obvious template. It would be tricky for them to have a Westminster Abbey blessing – because it would have to be preceded by a civil service marriage elsewhere. A blessing at St George’s Chapel, Windsor (with the castle walls) – with a marriage ceremony at Windsor Guildhall – would be easier to manage and wouldn’t detract from the pomp and splendour the occasion. While the monarch probably could not attend the couple’s civil ceremony, just as was the case with Charles and Camilla, the Queen and Prince Philip could attend the blessing and hold a reception for them at Windsor Castle. Constitutionally, the Royal Marriage Act 1772, gives the monarch the right of veto of marriages of members of the royal family. Despite, it being repealed in 2015, it still applies to the first six royals in the line of succession – and that currently includes Prince Harry. It states, however, that any member of the royal family over the age of 25 whose marriage has been blocked by the sovereign can still do so one year later after giving notice to the Privy Council. In other words, if Harry wants to marry Meghan he can. In Montego Bay the stunning actress put her arm around the fifth in line to the throne as they watched his friend Tom ‘Skippy” Inskip pledge himself to his bride Lara Hughes-Young. Cocktails and romance were the order of the day as the sun set. Perhaps the next time Harry’s ‘crew’ gather for a wedding it will be his own. . His latest book is ‘The Future Royal Family’ published by John Blake Publishing Limited Seun Mynnd44 laslastica http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/03/prince-harry-can-marry-meghan-markle-if.html

Today marks the 24th death anniversary of Toke Makinwa's parents. The couple died in a tragic fire incident at their Abuja home. Toke was just 8 when her 35 year old father, Caleb Ifemayowa Makinwa, and 34 year old mother, Modupe Monica Makinwa, died after suffering serious injuries from a gas cylinder explosion in their home. Celebrating their memories today, Toke wrote; "In the arms of an Angel..... May you find some comfort here. Since I was born and now as I am getting older, I have never seen the righteous forsaken nor his seed beg for bread. Today makes it 24 years since we lost you Mom and Dad, the years haven't been easy but your God has been faithful. The greatest legacy and inheritance you left behind was the knowledge of Him. You served him, you loved him, you brought up your children in his way and when the enemy called it a tragedy, God rose up for you both. You never got to hear the words well done but today I call your memories blessed, today I celebrate you both for the values you had. If you were here today I know you both would be great. God has taken care of us all in your absence, God has provided, God has kept us. Today I celebrate the souls of the faithful departed, you saw Jesus at the point of your passing and anytime I feel afraid I call on the name of Jesus. You have both become angels, I find comfort in that. Watch over us always". (c) seun, mynnd44, laslasica http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/03/toke-makinwa-remembers-her-parents-24.html

Ekiti elders have raised the alarm over the swapping of the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Wilson Inalegwu, with his counterpart in Kogi, Mr. Abdullahi Chafe. The elders also faulted the replacement of the state Director of Department of State Service, Mr. Andrew Iorkay, with Mr. Abdulfatah Mohammed. Speaking under aegis of Ekiti Elders’ Unity Agenda, the elders in a statement by their chairman, Chief Oladapo Iwaloye, and secretary, Dr. Opeyemi Alege, noted that the new security chiefs are from Katsina State with President Muhammadu Buhari. According to them, the replacement of the two men was preparatory to witchhunt of opposition figures in the state, including Governor Ayodele Fayose. The statement read, “We members of the Ekiti Elders’ Unity Agenda view the recent redeployment of Commissioner of Police in Kogi, Abdullah Chaffe, an indigene of Katsina State as having a political undertone. “We also note with consternation the redeployment of the Director of Department of State Service – another indigene from Katsina State. “Ekiti Unity Agenda believes the posting of the two men from President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state cannot be a mere coincidence considering the role of Governor Ayodele Fayose as leading voice of the opposition in the country. “We have every sense of belief to suspect that their postings are to actualise some sinister agenda and to gag officials of the state government and probably heat up the polity to prepare ground for an emergency rule.” The elders queried why Ekiti was the only target of reposting of security chiefs in the entire country. They stated that the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and the Director General of the DSS, Lawal Daura (another kinsman of president Buhari), should be held responsible for any political crisis in the state. “Is it only Katsina indigenes that are in the police and DSS? The Commissioner of Police, Wilson Inalegwu, had barely spent three months in the state, so why the rush in redeploying him when the state is enjoying peace and crime-free? “We see this as the beginning of a new plan to destabilise the state and begin indiscriminate arrest of members of the opposition and have decided to come out to speak on behalf of other true sons and daughters of Ekiti.” (c) seun, mynnd44, lalastica http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/03/ekiti-elders-raise-alarm-over-ekiti-cp.html |

Dr Aliyu Ibrahim, the Chairman, Kaduna Polytechnic Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), on Tuesday said his office had been under the mango tree for more than 18 years. Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna that he did not have an office for the past 18 years due to infrastructure deficit. He decried the high level of infrastructure deficit in the institution. According to him, nothing has changed in terms of infrastructure since I graduated from the institution in 1994. “I am privileged to be talking to you in this office today because am ASUP chairman but my office is under the mango tree. “I do not have an office since I joined the institution 18 years ago. I seat under the mango tree. “If my students or anybody wants to see me, he must either meet me in the class or strategically position himself and wait for me to pass by. “This is just to tell you how bad the situation is. It is affecting our motivation and making it difficult to impact,’’ Ibrahim disclosed. He said that Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund ) had not been fair to polytechnics in terms of intervention for infrastructural development. “If TETFund gives university N200 million, for example, it will give polytechnic N50 million for infrastructure. “ Nigeria is a developing economy and needs the middle class of manpower to develop the economy. “The essence of polytechnic education is to bring out middle class operations in terms of technological advancement, design implementation and even research. “The lack of infrastructure in the system is hampering the ability of the middle class to deliver, ‘’ he said. The ASUP Chairman called on the Federal Government to address infrastructure challenges affecting polytechnic education in the country. FC Barcelona player Neymar and his club will stand trial on corruption charges over his transfer from Brazilian team Santos, after losing a final appeal. The case relates to a complaint from Brazilian investment group DIS, which owned 40 per cent of Neymar’s transfer rights. Neymar It claims it received less money than it was entitled to when Neymar joined Barca from Santos for £49 million in 2013. Santos FC, Neymar’s mother and a company run by the 25-year-old footballer’s parents will also face charges. “Santos FC, FC Barcelona, Neymar, his mother Nadine Goncalves and N&N, the family company, have lost their appeals to have charges of fraud and corruption dropped,” the Spanish High Court said in a statement on Monday. NAN reports that they cannot appeal against the court’s decision. Prosecutors are seeking a two-year prison sentence and a fine of nearly £8 million for Neymar. However, even if the Brazil international were found guilty he would be unlikely to go to jail. Under the Spanish legal system, prison terms of under two years are typically suspended. Prosecutors are also seeking a fine of about £7.2 million for FC Barcelona and £5.6 million for Santos. Barca thought they had brought the affair to a close when a judge archived the case in June. But Spain’s public prosecutor successfully overturned the ruling in September, allowing the case to proceed. Neymar’s FC Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi was sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud in July of last year. He has since appealed against the sentence.(NAN) http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/02/neymar-fc-barcelona-to-stand-trial-on.html Mynd44, Lalasticlala,Seun

+1 John Alechenu, Abuja The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has given a hint of the possibility of President Muhammadu Buhari seeking a second term in 2019. Lawal gave the hint while addressing a pro-Buhari crowd gathered at the Unity Fountain, Abuja, on Tuesday, at the beginning of a series of protests in support of the President. He told the crowd that President Buhari feels the pains of Nigerians and was encouraged by the show of support to work to improve their lot. According to him, the President did not envisage the enormity of the challenges he met on the ground but was doing all within his power to set Nigeria on the path of sustainable growth. He assured the protesters that the economic difficulties being experienced by Nigerians would disappear within “one year.” Lawal said, “I’m here to thank you for the support you have been giving to this government. As a government, we are encouraged by your support. It is this type of support that encourages the President to do more. “We want to assure you that this government is on top of the situation. As much as we understand the challenges that we are facing, there is no cure without medicine. “It is for no reason that quinine is very bitter, but after you have taken it, you get well. I assure you that by the grace of God, in the next one year, Nigeria will have a booming economy. We know what they were doing to try to sabotage the activities of government to bring Nigeria back to economic prosperity, they will fail. “Nigeria will never go back to the position it was before 2015. The foundation being laid by the government is solid. And nobody, even after the President has finished his eight years, can ever take us back to the pre-2015 days.” He expressed optimism that President Buhari would outlive those who wish him dead. Also addressing the crowd, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, apologised for an earlier face-off between the Buhari protesters and security agents at the gate of the Presidential Villa; he blamed the situation on “a communication gap.” In his address, Mr. Moses Abdullahi, who is the convener of the Citizens Support for Good Governance in Nigeria, the organisers of the event, absolved the Buhari administration of blame for the current difficulties Nigerians are passing through. He said “Nigeria is going through a difficult phase, a phase which is not the making of this administration. It is rather a consequence of decades of bad governance, decay and maladministration by a few under a banner now synonymous with corruption.” “Nigeria can only change when we support the government and do our bit and not allow ourselves to be used as agents of destruction and political thuggery.” He listed some of the achievement of the Buhari-led administration to include the improvement of security especially in the North-East, successes recorded in the war against corruption and improvement in Nigeria’s positive image among the comity of nations. Governor Peter Ayo Fayose of Ekiti has said it is too risky and dangerous to divert local and international flights from Abuja to Kaduna as planned by the Federal Government. In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, Fayose gave knocks to the FG for what he said was its knee-jerk approach to problems. “They act before they think and they take decisions before consulting critical stakeholders. That way, they always end up putting the cart before the horse. That is how they have messed up the economy and now have brought unprecedented grief, misery, poverty and suffering on Nigerians”, he said. The Federal Government has said it would close down the Abuja airport for six weeks to repair the runway; during which period Abuja flights will be diverted to Kaduna from where the Federal Government said they would now be transported to Abuja. The Airlines Operators of Nigeria has rejected the government’s plan, insisting there are better ways of repairing the Abuja runway without closing the airport. International airline operators and their domestic counterparts are also opposed to the close-down option. Fayose described the security situation of Kaduna and its environment as worrisome, saying this alone disqualifies Kaduna. He also complained about the dilapidated state of the Kaduna-Abuja road, which he described as a “death-trap”. “This same Kaduna is where Shiites waylaid a whole Chief of Army Staff; the crisis created is yet to abate as the Shiites continue to defy the authorities to mount public protests. This is the same Kaduna where over a thousand citizens have been slaughtered like rams and the FG has not brought a single of the murderers to book. The situation in southern Kaduna and in other parts remains as tense as ever. “This is the same Kaduna-Abuja death-trap of a road where a sitting Minister of the Federal Republic, his wife and son lost their lives in a road mishap. This is the same Kaduna-Abuja road where a Minister and her husband were kidnapped in broad daylight. “It is also on this same road that an Army officer was butchered; where herdsmen parade their herds in broad daylight causing avoidable accidents and other inconveniences to travellers. This is the same road where Boko Haram and other criminally-minded hoodlums operate at will”, he said. He chided the government for taking a decision before assembling the critical stakeholders, whose advice now runs against the grains of government’s thinking. “Why are they always leaping before they look”, he asked, saying that the decision to close down the Abuja airport will further worsen the country’s economic recession. “We will lose business to neighbouring countries; a government that is parroting diversification of the economy will lose non-oil revenue. An aviation sector that is in crisis before will have its situation worsened. Expect more jobs to be lost in that sector, further worsening the alarming unemployment problem in the country”, he said. Aligning with the position of the airlines operators who are resisting the Federal Government’s relocation order, Fayose said all the necessary logistics, such as rehabilitation of the Kaduna-Abuja road, provision of adequate security, and adequate consultation ought to have been undertaken before the FG decided to go ahead with the plan. He advised the government to immediately constitute a high-powered team composed of Nigerians with the requisite expertise to handle this very critical national assignment, stressing that our image as a country is at stake because foreign nationals are involved. “In Nigeria under the APC\Buhari administration, we seem to value cows more than human lives but this is not the case with foreign governments which place premium on the lives of their citizens. They are not likely to allow our government gamble with the lives of their citizens”, he added. Assuring Nigerians and the international community that he would continue to speak out whenever the occasion demands; the governor advised the APC\Buhari administration to be courageous enough to admit its mistakes and retrace its steps because so much is at stake. “But by their nature, they are usually nonchalant. They believe everything starts and ends with political power, which is very sad. They must change this attitude because it is responsible for the untold suffering that our people are going through today”, he added. http://www.titopeblog.com/2017/01/diversion-of-flights-fayose-knocks-fg.html |
