PoliticsRe: Huge Capital Flight Hits Nigerian Economy by oldie(m): 12:10pm On Dec 08, 2008
Capital flight in Nigeria?
In December?
No.
This is the norm every end of year
It is more noticeable this year because of the global crisis

Governors, Civil Servants, Koras and Indians are sending stolen money abroad.
The ministries are hiding all the monies not spent during the year abroad.

More Nigerians are now buying expensive houses all over the world from looted Nigerian funds
The stock market was one of the ways these thieves hide money.
Unfortunately, the stock market has also crashed.

I am not an expert, but these are my observations

Too many ignorant and sometimes arrogant forumers in NL
There had been THREE BLACK popes in history!

PoliticsCan We Start Living Like Better Nigerians? by oldie(op): 4:19pm On Nov 06, 2008
The election of Obama has set me thinking
What lessons can we learn as Nigerians from his victory?

Like I wrote many posts ago, his victory would give me the “I feel good” emotions just because he is a capable black man and it has!

Beyond this, he set for himself, a goal he strived to achieve despite all obstacles
The result of this achievement will make the world a better and friendly place!

I have been on this forum for about a year now and our sentiments to our tribes/
ethnicity and religion are very emotive.

Can we apply the same emotions to being better Nigerians?

Can we all start making every effort to always give our best as Nigerians?
Not blaming the system, our tribe/ethnicity for our individual failures?
Can we rise above the system to give our best?
The American system is not perfect
No system is

Obama has set a very good example for us all
That when we are the best in what we do, no collective evil can deter us?

Can we start in our own little worlds to begin to do the right things as Nigerians?

Can we just give it a try?
Collectively we can banish the “Nigerian evil and stigma”

Obama did
Individually as Nigerians we CAN!
Foreign AffairsRe: Dear Mr. Obama - A Very Touching Video! by oldie(m): 3:03pm On Oct 31, 2008
The war would not be a mistake for such veterans
He was employed for 12 months!

Such people do not care, when children and women are killed
Wars keep them employed

They justify it.
Keeping America safe by killing innocents in Iraq!
And how would any sane person justify this?
PoliticsRe: Local Government Budget & Corruption by oldie(m): 2:09pm On Oct 31, 2008
@ Midas02

You based your conclusions on the fact that these Local Govts only collect money from the Fed Govt
Some of them generated as much from internally generated revenues

The level of corruption at the Local Govt is more profound!
The mentallity is ' collect and share'
PoliticsRe: FCT Minister Weeps (After Removal By Yar'adua) by oldie(m): 1:57pm On Oct 31, 2008
A good lesson for all
When you are privileged to serve the public
Do not play politics with your position

The ex-minister was more interested in destroying what his predecessor did
Politically correct decisions and pronouncements are not always the right decisions!
He was too desperate to hold-on to his post, and playing to the gallery

Has he left Abuja better than he met it?
Candidly, No

The US government says it has disrupted a plot to assassinate presidential hopeful Barack Obama, it has been reported.

PoliticsRe: Militants Rape 28 Female Youth Corps Members by oldie(m): 2:40pm On Oct 25, 2008
If they were confirmed "militants", that just validated my take on these so called "militants" , that they are criminals. Simple!

How about if they were soldiers disguising as militants?
Whichever, if caught, they should be shot between their thighs!
Animals
Foreign AffairsRe: Colin Powell Endorses Barack Obama by oldie(m): 2:24pm On Oct 20, 2008
Initially, blacks were not allowed to vote
Then,
Blacks could vote but cannot be voted for
It then progressed to blacks could only hold some political positions!
Fortunately, the world has moved on (I hope) to who is the best person for the post?

Same should apply here, in Nigeria
We should always use our best eleven

Obama is the better choice!
And that is Colin Powell's position and the more rational one
PoliticsRe: Is The Global Financial Crisis A Hoax? by oldie(op): 3:20pm On Oct 10, 2008
Great post Gekko
That was what I was alluding to!
People at the financial pyramid are colluding to manipulate the global financial system!
I think they have one/two objectives
One, to change the fat cows at the helm of the pyramid and replace them with themselves or others
Two, change the global financial power base (US)!

It is getting obvious from all these that US, has seized to become the apex of the financial world
There are other emerging power houses - China and Russia and to some lesser extent, Germany, India and Brazil
The sooner we realised this, the better for all

I am not a financial expert o!

if you don't understand the current tumoil in the financial sector then I'D advice you to ask so u can be enlightened.
Thats what I just did
Can you explain the "global" financial crisis is all about?
In a layman's language
And when you are at it, answer my previous questions
PoliticsRe: Is The Global Financial Crisis A Hoax? by oldie(op): 7:50pm On Oct 09, 2008
I still think this is a global 419
How come only the banks and mortgage houses are hit
Some people are manipulating the system and hitting the vulnerables
to have the desired effect
How come the blue chips are not tumbling?

Can someone educate me more?

Markets are going down, economies are crashing. Banks are going bankrupt, hundreds of thousands of jobs are being cut. Oil prices are crashing, heads of State are frantically calling meetings, Wall Street in turmoilin short the whole financial world is going up in flames.
And you think it's all a 'hoax'

I think you aren't bright enough to think for yourself.
The recent events have shown that the people managing the economy are not that very bright!
Or they are bloody crooks
Nobody saw this coming?
It is strange.

B T W, you don't have to be too bright to make money from the system
Crooks make quick and more money from the system than the bright ones!

PoliticsIs The Global Financial Crisis A Hoax? by oldie(op): 4:39pm On Oct 09, 2008
I am beginning to think it is
I think some smart people out there are trying to scare everybody.
Methinks some rich cats have withdrawn some huge money from the system,
create the pre-determined situation and make so much money out of the chaos and restore the status quo
Knowing that the present American, British and Japenese governments are almost lameducks

Coming back home, the senate is negotiating a N300bn bail-out!
Bail-out from what?
Who benefit from this bail-out?
Same set of people
And what happens to the average Nigerian?

What do you think?

Nairaland GeneralRe: Moderator Wanted In Politics Section by oldie(m): 2:04pm On Oct 02, 2008
Moderators should not be chosen based on tribe, ethnicity, religion or sex
For the Foreign affairs section - A suitable Nigerian in the diaspora can moderate

In the home front, I recommend Afam
He understands and rationalises more than the most contributors in the politics section
He is Nigerian and he is home based

PoliticsRe: What Is This Naija Craze About Obama? by oldie(m): 6:06pm On Jul 26, 2008
@ Tayo-D
Problem about ideology and rationalisation is that there are no "in-betweens"
Majority of voters vote on sentiments, however stupid and in-explainable
But I have a problem with you ratioanlising my reasons for voting for whoever
And thats one of the problems with ideologists - no halfway measures!
You are either with me or you are against me.
PoliticsRe: Of Value And Nigerian Factor by oldie(m): 5:54pm On Jul 26, 2008
gorociano:
The reason why Nigerians don’t strive for quality is because they lack the motivation to do so. When someone creates an oasis of quality in this country, the society starts working, covertly and overtly, to subvert such to its own system of values i.e. that of mediocrity and nonchalance. Simply put, it’s not in our national character. That is the Nigerian Factor.
I do understand where you are coming from
But the system is changing slowly
Providing good quality services and goods have their rewards at the end of the day, however tedious and frustrating
National character is based on government induced programmes
Private enterprises are based on quality.
Not on tribe, religion or who you know.
And thats the way we should go
PoliticsRe: What Is This Naija Craze About Obama? by oldie(m): 5:11pm On Jul 26, 2008
Tayo-D:
@oldie,
I would prefer you hoot for someone based on ideology and not his race. Supporting Obama based on his race is equivalent to not supporting McCain based on his race. Isn't that a clear manifestation of racism?

While I have my reservations about McCain, I am not under any illusion that Obama is iametrically opposed to my Conservative leanings. I cannot in good conscience vote for Obama. Voting that way will confuse my conscience and will probably hunt me for the rest of my life.
Hey, you have your right to vote for who ever
Sometimes, some of us vote for reasons that are not rational and cannot be explained
Like I wrote, Obama gives me "this feel good" feeling
I think that should be enough reason for hooting for Obama

I do not want to be academic about this!
PoliticsRe: What Is This Naija Craze About Obama? by oldie(m): 2:49pm On Jul 26, 2008
There are different reasons why people support Obama

Some of us are craving for a Nigerian Obama
That transcends tribe, religion, age and accident of birth

In addition, an Obama gives me this " feel good" sentiment, because he is black!
And I do not owe any apology for that
Would you have preferred me hooting for a Mcaine?
