PoliticsRe: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by oldie(m): 9:18pm On May 12, 2008
I have said it before that the Power Probe Committee is another scam itself
The probe was not set up to solve our power problems, but to enhance some politicians careers and ambitions
At the end of day, they must have spent over a billion to achieve nothing
And who are the loosers? Nigerians.
And the vicious circle continues

Engineering is about facts and figures not about some greedy misplaced emotions
PoliticsRe: Should Africa Go Solar? by oldie(m): 12:58pm On May 10, 2008
No country in the world has solar as its primary source of grid power supply.
It will not happen now or in the nearest future, when there are cheaper sources of power supply such as
gas, coal, hydro etc.

Solar could be used as an additional source, not the primary or secondary source.
FoodRe: Rising Prices Of Food by oldie(m): 4:17pm On May 09, 2008
Problem with some of the commentaries here is that the commentators do not even understand what the problem is.
The locally produced rice (ofada rice) is more expensive than the imported rice/kg
In the interim though, I think the government should give tax relief to rice importers.

Does rice have a local equivalent?
If it does, why not emphasise on the local subtitute?

The long-term solution would be for the government to encourage the local producers and millers in terms of loans and providing power supply, good roads and security
PoliticsRe: How I Gave Bribe To Keyamo, Others - Kenny Martins by oldie(m): 4:20pm On May 08, 2008
lucabrasi:
keyamo is not so hungry to compromise himself over ten million and a jeep, he s a lawyer and he s intelligent enough to know if he collected that,it ll be in kenny martin's records to blackmail him later and if keyamo wanted to collect bribes he ll have done so during the babangida/abacha era, moreover the inspector general who kenny martins said witnessed it said its a big fat lie
Young man, please do not be deceived by these fly-by-day constitutional lawyers (whatever that means) and human rights activists.
They are as corrupt as the people they are fighting!
The loosers are always the Nigerians
PoliticsRe: How I Gave Bribe To Keyamo, Others - Kenny Martins by oldie(m): 3:24pm On May 08, 2008
I am not surprised
Sadly enough, both sides are dubious - feeding fat from the corrupt system
The PEF setup was not a tidy business (or deal?)

Godson Ewulum felt he had been short changed, and Festus Keyamo is a willing tool as usual
None of the two groups is fighting for the common good of Nigerians.
They are all scammers
ComputersRe: Acer Digital Camera Help! by oldie(m): 9:07pm On May 06, 2008
The best batteries to use for your camera is the alkaline batteries
Try and buy Kodak or Duracell alkaline batteries
I recommend Kodak
Always buy from the supermarkets (malls), not from roadside markets
PoliticsRe: Why Are The Chinks In Africa? by oldie(m): 5:28pm On May 03, 2008
@ poster:

I think China in Africa is a good thing, that Africa has alternative
The western world is complaining about the Chinese influence because they see a decline in their once monopoly on African countries

Africans can only benefit from more trade and exchange with anyone that is willing to be business partners, not to colonise and tell us how stupid we are as a people.

The west had their chance for the past 150 years and what had that led us?
The competition from China is good for our economy and business
It is left for us to choose the good from the bad

Global Positioning System.well my expriences with GPS in GHAna.
ghanas use cpgps and it well calculated.than Nigeria.the satellite-receiver sequence matching
that transmit precise microwave signals, the system enables a GPS receiver to determine its location, speed, direction, and time. than other similar systems.i think here in NIgeria we are in the dark.we need to learn more.
My friend you are talking nonsense!
Talking about something you know little about - Typical of this part of the forum
GPS and GPRS work well in Lagos and to some extent all over Nigeria.

Some Vehicle Trackers are using it and it is working well.
Personally, I have tested it in most part of the country and I am not disappointed with the results I got!
PoliticsRe: Do You Have The Right Leader? by oldie(m): 7:15pm On Apr 29, 2008
We can have the right leaders if we have the right followership
Followership that is:
- ready to question the leadership
- not corrupt
- ready to do its bit to change the system
- ready to identify the ills in leadership and the led
- less ethnic

Sometimes we blame leadership for all our woes
Leaders emerge from the followership
Improve the quality of followership
The quality of leadership will definitely improve!
PoliticsRe: Nadeco Chieftain Adesanya Is Dead by oldie(m): 6:40pm On Apr 29, 2008
lucabrasi:
he co ordinated ac to capture the south west states,in the face of obj opposition,he was there in the trenches fighting for democracy during the abacha years and he has shown leadership qualities having said that the only thing i think disqualifies tinubu from being the yoruba leader is age and also because the nadeco hierachy follows that when a leader dies, his deputy is made the leade, with the death of pa adesanya the next person in line is the man pa fasoranti he has the hierachy on his side, age, and non partisan since he is not swayed towards a particular party
Please get your facts right!
1. AC controls only Lagos
2. NADECO no longer exists
3. Tinubu is not among the 12th eleven in Afenifere hierarchy

You guys should stop promoting mediocrity and opportunists
PoliticsRe: Students From France Narrate Experience In Nigeria by oldie(m): 6:23pm On Apr 29, 2008
My father-in-law was to spend a month
Now this is the third month and he is still enjoying himself, NEPA or no NEPA!
Like he says, there are good things in Nigeria we take for granted
The guy is not even a Nigerian
PoliticsRe: Nadeco Chieftain Adesanya Is Dead by oldie(m): 6:35pm On Apr 28, 2008
lucabrasi:
the big question is that who fills the massive shoes he has left behind, who will be the bonafide and morally upright yoruba leader
We should all move away from this sheep-sherperd mentallity
Nigeria does not need this type of setup anymore. I think it is archaic and dated
What we need is good governance

@TopBooty
Tinubu upright?
Please get real
PoliticsRe: Next Pope From Africa by oldie(m): 4:16pm On Apr 28, 2008
I am not religious either, but if we had a black pope now, it would not be the first time.
There had been three other black popes!
Having another one next, will not make me unhappy though
PoliticsRe: The Independent: 'a World Of Casual Racism Exposed In Ba' by oldie(m): 12:48pm On Apr 28, 2008
Mr Maughan alleges that racism is a "generational" problem – common among middle-aged pilots, but rare among younger pilots.
Can we say the same about tribalism/ethnicity in Nigeria?
It is more rabid among our youths, at least judging from some of the things I read from NL
Sadly enough, reasons are given to justify this bigotry sad

dragnet:
oldie, but I guess there're ways around those?
Yes of course.
You can by-pass the bootloader, to flash the eeprom (hard unlock)
This is the method used to unlock new Nokia phones (BB5)

Softkeys can also be used to unlock too (But the original sim card must be in the phone)
PhonesRe: Celtel Edge Network by oldie(m): 12:12am On Apr 28, 2008
info:
3G is 10 times faster shocked
In practice, because of bandwidth limitations, the Service Providers offer 3G speeds upto 384 kbps while edge's speed is about 236 kbps
Agreed, 3G is a little faster but certainly, not 10 times!

PoliticsRe: 11 Million Nigerian Children Out Of School by oldie(m): 7:12pm On Apr 25, 2008
The figures given range from 60m to 115m world-wide
I do not believe that 11m of them are Nigerians
Sometime, some kids who work and at the same time attend schools are also counted
Some go to evening schools too
Whatever the figures are, I do not think any child should be denied education

The latest chart is shown below

PoliticsRe: Are Titles Really Important? by oldie(m): 11:51am On Apr 23, 2008
Most title seeking individuals are deficient, one way or the other
There is some sort of complex there
The ones that irritate me the most are: Engr, Barrister, Arch, Pharmacist, Lawyer, Hon, Excellency, 1st Lady, Alhaji, Alhaja, Deacon, Pastor, Dr. (Ph.D), etc
The robe does not make a monk
"It is not titles that honour men it is men that honour titles", according to Niccolo Di Machiavelli
PoliticsRe: Atiku May Soon Enter Voice Mail by oldie(m): 3:47pm On Apr 19, 2008

Is Atiku better than the rest?
He is one of our problems.
They are all opportunists!
Foreign AffairsRe: Should The World Intervene In Zimbabwe? by oldie(m): 3:30pm On Apr 19, 2008
The election problems in Zimbabwe are best handled by the electoral body in the country
The political problems should be handled by SADC

The west is making the same mistakes they made with Saddam, Bin Laden etc,
How well do we know Tsvangirai ?
What does he stand for? Apart from opposing Mugabe whom the west hates with a passion?

I think the west is trying to incite the people in Zimbabwe without thinking of the welfare of the generality of the Zimbabweans

Mugabe is not the only problem with Zimbabwe!
PoliticsRe: Yaradua Should Work And Leave Obj by oldie(m): 7:54pm On Apr 18, 2008
Obasanjo was not my favourite as the president, but he did something, even if they were wrong
Not taking responsibility for anything and blaming the system is not a good sign of a forward-looking president!
I used to support Yar'adua, but after spending about a year in the office, I do not think he has a clue of what needs
to be done to improve our lives.
I hope I will be proved wrong later
Christianity EtcRe: Can Prayers Change Nigeria? by oldie(m): 3:03pm On Apr 16, 2008
Prayer in this context is defeatist, an after thought and escapist
Knowingly commit crime and ask for forgiveness?
Prayers dont solve natioanal problems.
The people do
Dont allow any pastor or Imam deceive you!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Is Bad - Nigeria Is Bad - What Is Bad About Nigeria Than Other Countries by oldie(m): 4:21pm On Apr 14, 2008

piecemeal contributions have little benefits on a macroscale. u have to challenge the system at some point. read this

http://allafrica.com/stories/200804140679.html

at something, we have to work together as a collective, little ways won't cut it.

what makes u think others wouldn't like to return.
With the little we offer, we challenge the system everyday, believe me!
Little ways and efforts count and they count big!

I am encouraging people to come back!
But should not blame the government/system for their own failures and inadequacies when and if they come back
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Is Bad - Nigeria Is Bad - What Is Bad About Nigeria Than Other Countries by oldie(m): 3:29pm On Apr 14, 2008
bawomolo:
most people don't have this option. i think nigerians should be realistic. this country is bad and third world. with one of the reasons being too many mouths to feed and poor governance. little progress can be made unless there is an overhaul of the political process. the question, who is willing to challenge the nigerian government.
I am not here to defend, change or challenge the government
But from our own little contributions we can change the system
It is easy to stay afar and tell everybody how bad the system is, how stupid we are, how cowardly we are, how things dont work and so on, but I am here, and things are not as bad as some are making it. I will still repeat it here, you need to be a very good professional and stay focussed here (and I guess anywhere in the world) to realise what I am talking about.
We are all part of the system (whether at home or abroad)
We can change the orientation in our own little ways
Yes, there is no light, yes there are so many things that dont work as they should, but we returnee should not be castigated for making the best out of the bad situation, we are happy doing it!

blind patriotism won't help u.
I am not talking about blind patriotism here
I have the option to leave, so as others, if things dont work out!
Would patriotism feed my family?
I am more rational than that!
