CareerRe: Salary In The Nigerian Army? by oldie(m): 3:42pm On Jan 19, 2008
Most of our young men and women just want a job not a career
And thats the reason why too many of them pursue the very few vacancies in Banking, Oil & Gas, Telecoms. etc
They spend 2-3 years in this pursuit, thereafter, they become almost unemployable, because there are brighter and younger graduates available.

@ poster if you like a career in the Nigerian Army, please go ahead, get enlisted and make a career for yourself.

Let us continue exposing these thieves to the people, so that everyone would have a rethink before voting them in. Because I think if people are aware of these bastards actions, and the media helps in airing all these atrocitrities, ordinary Nigerians would wake up from the juju they've used to make us look the other way while they do all these in our faces.
Sadly enough, nobody elected them.
They were selected and handpicked
And looks like their juju has expired, they all will account for all their loots
Just a matter of time

Nigeria will be better when we start
- being nationalistic
- doing our own bits efficiently
- using our best eleven
- being the best in whatever we do
- stop blaming the system for all our personal failures
- realising that home is the best and can be the best Nigerians in Nigeria

I believe Nigeria will be better. I really do

PhonesRe: Which Gsm/cdma Provider Do You Think Is The Best? by oldie(m): 2:46pm On Jan 12, 2008
"Best" means different things to different people, it is relative.
GSM and CDMA systems are different platforms, so comparing them will not be fair

GSM networks
I will base my own "best", on Quality of Service (QoS) such as rate of dropped calls, connection rate, fidelity of voice, speed of data transfer, Customers Service etc,

So from my own assessment, based on my own experience and without prejudice, I think it is Celtel.

CDMA Networks
I do not have enough experience on the usage of CDMA networks to make an informed decision.

Please note that my opinion is not sacrosanct.
Others might have their views.
PhonesRe: What Does This Band Mean? by oldie(m): 1:16pm On Jan 12, 2008
There are too many inconsistencies here
The facts are:

In GSM system, there is the uplink frequency and the downlink frequency
GSM systems use a pair of frequencies. Modern systems use a set of frequency from one band for uplink and another set from the corresponding band for downlink. e.g 900/1800

Dual Band
Dual band refers to the capability of GSM network infrastructure and handsets to operate across two frequency bands e.g. 850/1900 or 900/1800 MHz. In Nigeria it is 900/1800MHz

Tri Band
A Tri Band phone will operate on three different frequencies depending on the available network. e.g. 850/1800/1900 MHz. (This will not work in Nigeria)
900/1800/1900 will work in Nigeria

Quad Band
A quad-band mobile phone is operational on any of the four GSM frequencies - e.g. 850/900/1800/1900 MHz. This is indeed the ultimate global phone.
And will work on any GSM network in the world

The Single Band i.e 820/850, 1820/1850 (Pls note that these frequencies are in the same band) will never work here. The cost of conversion to dual band will be more than the cost of a new phone

koseepaaro:
But what can you people say on those that use the phone that is using single band? Can we say that they will be experiencing poor service on their phone?
There is nothing like single band , at least not nowadays
You need two frequency bands!
People using band combinations such as 850/1800, 900/1900 will experience intermittent signal or no signal at all
PhonesRe: What Does This Band Mean? by oldie(m): 10:25pm On Jan 11, 2008
There is also a quad band phone too 850/900/1800/1900
These bands are the frequency bands to transmit and receive
If you are using the phone in Nigeria, you do not need more than the dual band
All GSM providers in Nigeria are dual-band
But the dual band MUST be 900/1800 or include the 900/1800 combination whether triband or quad band

Any other combination such as 850/1800 or 850/900/1900 will not work in Nigeria

Considering what it was (less than 10,000/mth) to what it is now.
I understand it will be increased to 50,000/mth
The increase is an improvement
Agreed the increase will not solve all the problems, but it helps in some ways

But some of the police officers do not even want this increase!
Sometimes I do not understand our people any more sad

Read here:
http://www.leadershipnigeria.com/product_info.php?products_id=19342

, The development is coming as frantic efforts by some top police officers to sabotage the implementation of the new police salary scale met a brick wall as President Yar'Adua insisted that there was no going back on the new salary scale.

A score of top officers of the force led by a deputy inspector general (DIG) were said to have met with President Yar'Adua during which they complained bitterly to the president against the salary increment which has moved the police minimum wage from N8, 000 to N28, 000.

A source close to the meeting told our correspondents last night that the 12 top police officers led by the DIG met the president and tried to convince him to order a reversal of the recent increment in salaries of the officers and men of the force. They argued that any increase in the wages of the force's rank and file would create boredom instead of the expected productivity. They tried in vain to tell the president that the rank and file, who are not used to this luxury, would likely misuse the fortune instead of concentrating on their jobs.

"They did not discuss or inform their boss, the IGP, of their hidden agenda, but they were shocked when the president insisted Okiro must be part of the meeting. Consequently, the president summoned Okiro," our source said.

The source continued: "Okiro was asked to comment on the likely implication of the wage increase when he told the president that it is one of the best things to have happened, commending the government for its policies towards achieving the feat.

"Okiro categorically explained that he has no hands in why his subordinates went to the villa and that they were on their own. The situation left the officers dumbfounded as they thought they could play politics by working against their boss."

The source said these groups of police officers have not been supportive of any salary increase for their subordinates, and have always worked against it,

you know what? many will quickly say its the fault of draft men, who brought tribes together willy nilly, or should i say the British who in their colonization of most of Africa carelessly brought ethnic groups who lived separately together. Well yes it was a recipe for disaster, but. now a big BUT. why can't we see that we only do our continent more harm by trying to fracture these states through ethnic cleansing? when for so long we have lived together? thesame was the case during the Biafran war. Why can't we use our God given brains to see that though our colonial Muppet's cocked up big time, we can carry on and build on that cock up and make healthy nations.why can't we see beyond bungling politicans who come with their greed filled propaganda to cause disenfranchisement? why can't we see?
The Kenyans have fallen prey to a combination of propaganda and past cockup. Nigeria will follow suit , its a matter of WHEN!
A man/woman who is hungry does not need brains
He/she needs food
And where is the food coming from?
From the crumbs and manipulations of the politicians
