texazzpete:
Lest i forget, how many of our professionals that can 'compete anywhere' were trained by the Nigerian system?
Most Nigerian professionals competing everywhere, were initially trained in Nigeria

texazzpete:
I agree. but at the same time we are the biggest exporter of online scammers in Africa. we're known worldwide as a dishonest people. We openly praise corruption and mediocrity.

There are two sides to the coin. while we should celebrate progress, let's not get lost. There's still 98% of the work to be done.

Finally, it's clear to even the most starry eyed optimist that this generation of Nigerian youth is even more corrupt and dishonest than the elders.
I agree with you here.
I have discovered that some of our youth blame "self mediocrity" on others, the system and tribe!
On the other hand, there are many bright young, innovative and achieving Nigerians around!
We can always improve and there is plenty of work to be done regarding our value system and self improvement!
PoliticsRe: A Country In Name Only? by oldie(m): 11:53am On Jun 15, 2008
Why did the 4 regions work or appeared to have worked?
How come the states are not working?
Even when they are being governed by the locals?
Our value systems are misplaced
Politicians service the state, they dont serve the people!
PoliticsRe: Adedibu Is Not To Be Blamed For Anything by oldie(m): 8:05pm On Jun 12, 2008
Most of us get too emotional about things we know little about.
How many of us here knew Adedibu.
All we knew about him was what was caused to be written by some elites
The other elites are using the likes of Adedibu to defraud all of us
Until we all realise that our problems are not caused by the Adedibus of these world but
our elites who thrive in creating confusion all over the place.

We are all willing tools in this political game of deceit
WebmastersRe: Which Is The Fastest Internet Connection In Nigeria by oldie(m): 7:33pm On Jun 12, 2008
EVDO CDMA is still the best technology around, if you compare apple with apple.
My Starcomm EVDO has not disappointed me.
Visafone EVDO is also good
In addition, EVDO is portable, Swift is fixed
And I have downloaded 1Gb in less than 30 minutes

We may have to start demanding QOS (Quality of Service) from these ISPs.
Does anyone have the standard QOS required for EVDO, Dial-up etc?
PoliticsRe: Abacha Is A Saint - Babangida, Buhari, Abdulsalami. by oldie(m): 9:08pm On Jun 09, 2008
Abacha did not loot the treasury.
He and his family owned it.
You dont steal what belongs to you, do you?
slowpoke leaders we have all had!
God, satan and everything in between will punish all of them, their families and their friends
Foreign AffairsRe: Obama Tonic by oldie(m): 10:59pm On Jun 08, 2008
The change we need in Nigeria is not about gender, religion or ethnic
We need a competent Nigerian to be our president, man/woman where ever he/she may come from
Obama was nominated because he is competent and can rationalize his vision!
Being black is secondary, although it gives me this "feel good" sentiment

PoliticsRe: And The New Yoruba Leader Is---- by oldie(m): 10:16pm On Jun 02, 2008
bluehorizo:
Then we should scrap all those Ethnic /political groups to realize a one Nigeria. As long as there are ethnic interests we cannot attain a one Nigeria as much as i want it to be realized.
Ethnic interests? What ethnic interests
Dont deceive yourself, they are personal and selfish interests
When their interests are not met, they turn to ethnicity to push their interests!

Dont we have Igbos governing in the south east?
Dont we have Hausas in the north or Yorubas in west etc?
How well have these people affected the lives of their own people?

How many Yorubas benefitted from OBJ?
How many Hausas benefitted from IBB, Abacha etc?

Do having good roads, constant power supply, good educational system, abundant food, security depend on ethnicity?
We should stop this ethnic stuff, because most politicians and incompetent people use it for personal gains.

I think the idea of an ethnic leader is dated
We need a Nigerian leader!
PoliticsRe: And The New Yoruba Leader Is---- by oldie(m): 8:44pm On Jun 02, 2008
We are easily drawn into all these primordial ideas of ethnic leadership
Probably a passover ideas from our parents.
What we need now is a Nigerian leader
PoliticsRe: Most Versatile And Intelligent Nairalander by oldie(m): 8:29pm On Jun 02, 2008
Intelligence and versatility are in the eyes/brains of the beholder/assessor
They are no mathematics!
PoliticsRe: Mko Abiola Beaten To Death- Mustapha by oldie(m): 9:06pm On Jun 01, 2008
Why didnt he reveal this during the Oputa panel
Then 9 years after, another video story emerged!
Someone should examine Mustapha's state of mind
I think he is hallucinating!
PoliticsRe: Soludo: The Face Of A Thief? by oldie(m): 10:40pm On May 30, 2008
I hope this story is not true
I will give him the benefit of doubt, until indicted
Same benefit to OBJ, Iyabo, Power probe, El Rufai until all facts are known

But one thing is obvious, our elites have this penchant of outsmarting the system for their selfish advantage.
However, whoever is found guilty should be shot between the legs!
PoliticsRe: Most Corrupt Politician In Nigeria by oldie(m): 4:59pm On May 29, 2008
You guys should think!
The most corrupt set of people in Nigeria is the civil service!
And most of your parents worked in the civil service!
Stop burying your heads in the sand

The brains behind corruption in Nigeria is the civil service
They showed / are still showing the soldiers and politicians how to steal and cover the fraud!
PoliticsRe: Useless Old Fool (alagbada Fool) by oldie(m): 4:48pm On May 29, 2008
Tabloid headlines are not deep enough to judge a country
At least we can talk about our ills in public
I hope you see further than these negativities, if not
you better keep your day/night jobs where ever you are sojourning!
PoliticsRe: Nigeria Accepted US Army Barrack In Nigeria. by oldie(m): 4:38pm On May 29, 2008
All these typical replies are becoming tedious! sad
PoliticsRe: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by oldie(m): 2:49pm On May 28, 2008
I might be insulted for this, but who cares?

There are too many public affairs commentators in Nairaland who base
their arguments on hearsay, half truths, ignorance and outright "brainlessness"

Their arguments are not coherent, factual or are based on what they pickup in beer parlours etc,

Afam, I may not agree with you, on some of your posts, I am with you on this one.

Insults and name calling do not win arguments. Intelligent facts do!
PoliticsRe: Should We Be Preparing For President Jonathan? by oldie(m): 1:43pm On May 28, 2008
Initially, I was all for intellectuals to take over the reigns of governance
In the hope they would understand and rationalise Nigerian problems
I am beginning to have my doubts

Examples of failed  "well educated" governors are aplenty - Anambra, Edo, Ondo, Delta etc

I think what we need is a smart Nigerian who understands the problems, ready to solve these problems
without thinking of gains of the office.
I thought YarAdua has it - I hope he still does.
Jonathan does not!

Enough of tokenism, compromise and mediocrity in government
PoliticsRe: Power Probe: C’tee To Write Report Abroad! by oldie(m): 9:51pm On May 27, 2008
I HAVE SPENT ONLY 10 MINUTES ANALYSING THE ISSUES
If it took you 10 minutes to write this crap,
then it would take you more than 10 years to understand our power problems

Sometimes simple minds over simplify problems!

Now to the post, I have maintained that the probe itself is a scam
All hot air, achieving nothing sad
PoliticsRe: Rubbish! Neither Awo Nor Adesanya Was Yoruba Leader –akinjide by oldie(m): 7:11pm On May 24, 2008
Truequest:
No, just say Pa Awo's contribution is not enough huh huh huh
Or am I missing something?
Yes you are!
Awo did whatever he did as a political leader not as a Yoruba leader
And nobody is diminishing what he achieved. He was a great man
But there are too many opportunists who want to use Awo's achievements to ascend
to some relevance based on nothing but clanishness, mediocrity and stolen wealth.
SportsRe: Grant Sacked As Chelsea Manager by oldie(op): 6:30pm On May 24, 2008
I think the following are on-line to replace him
Frank Rijkaard, Guus Hiddink, Michael Laudrup, Macini?

To think he was one kick away
Anyway thats modern football for you.

So who should take over?
SportsGrant Sacked As Chelsea Manager by oldie(op): 6:17pm On May 24, 2008
Chelsea have sacked manager Avram Grant after just eight months in charge.
The decision followed two days of talks between Grant and the club's chief executive Peter Kenyon.
The Israeli coach's position had been subject to speculation all season even though he guided the Blues to second place in the Premier League.
Chelsea said in a statement on their website that the search for a new coach would now begin and that the club will make no further comment.

PoliticsRe: Rubbish! Neither Awo Nor Adesanya Was Yoruba Leader –akinjide by oldie(m): 2:35pm On May 24, 2008
We get sucked into this senseless, myopic and opportunistic definitions of leadership
Political leadership is quite different from ethnic leadership
What does Fulani/Hausa/Ijaw/Igbo/Yoruba etc leadership mean?
Why dont we all start talking and demanding for Nigerian leaders?

I agree with Chief Akinjide on this
Time to move on,
PoliticsRe: Iyabo Obansanjo Is Innocent by oldie(m): 1:30pm On May 23, 2008
The way corruption is fought in Nigeria, makes the guilty look innocent.
Political convenience and sensationalism seem to dictate the direction
we fight corruption.

I hope we will get it right one day, I really hope so
PoliticsRe: Pat Utomi And Reuben Abati In Nigeria’s Public Discourse by oldie(m): 1:13pm On May 23, 2008
Abati is one of the few columnists I read.
He is easy to read.
I find him too populist sometimes

As for Utomi, too many "double speak", too many times.
I think he plays politics of convenience and politics of who is listening
Sometimes he thinks his audiences are beneath him!
PoliticsRe: Police Bill Passes Second Reading In Senate by oldie(m): 4:23pm On May 22, 2008
We pay VAT for all manufactured goods and Services in Nigeria
The police tax should be deducted from VAT
I think some of us pay too much tax

Policing is the government responsibility.
The government should not pass the buck
And who controls the fund?
CareerRe: Ur Boss Slapped U: What Would You Do? by oldie(m): 5:55pm On May 20, 2008
showstopa:
@Oldie
my response was not in the least rude,
I said i didnt know, she said why would i not know
i said i wouldnt know.
what will you rather i said
In your post your reply was " I wouldnt know"

I wouldn't know is used to indicate that one can't be expected to know the answer to someone's question or to comment on a matter
It can also mean I don't know bitch/idiot/slowpoke etc ,  in addition to your countenance

"I don't know please" would have sufficed
Nobody has been crucified for saying please!

Like I said, before, some of us say words that are inherently rude, without knowing the impact they have on people.
Like I also said, she was wrong to have assaulted you
CareerRe: Ur Boss Slapped U: What Would You Do? by oldie(m): 2:19pm On May 20, 2008
Slapping you was wrong
Your answer was also wrong!

Your answer should have been " I don't know"
Sometimes, some of us do not know how to answer simple questions.

CareerRe: Any Hope For Those "Unfortunate" To Have Finished With 3rd Class? by oldie(m): 1:24pm On May 14, 2008
@ seyibrown
There is always a natural selection and balancing in life.
I agree, there are some people who deserved to make better grades but for some reasons they did not. In the long run, these people make good for themselves.
And those who have un-deserved grades are naturally sifted by the system
That was my point

Please people should stop quoting 10 out of every 1,000 who made lower grades and have improved their lives!
There are also 900 out of every 1,000 who made better grades who are doing well too!
CareerRe: Any Hope For Those "Unfortunate" To Have Finished With 3rd Class? by oldie(m): 8:01pm On May 13, 2008
It is so so easy to name the few who made third class and made names for themselves
I am sorry, making a first class and a two-one is never by accident in most cases
If you got your degree by dubious means, the system, however rotten, will catch up with you and it will disgrace you. It is a matter of time
There are no short cuts to hard work
And it has got nothing to do with God, satan or some lecturers!
PoliticsRe: 'My Power Project Story' By Olusegun Obasanjo by oldie(m): 10:41pm On May 12, 2008
naijaking1:
I beg to disagree about the committee achieving nothing. They may not bring power to us by a flip of the switch, but by merely discussing these irregularities, the process is improved. Whether we like it or not, public disclosure remains a powerful tool in the fight against corruption.
If the intentions were altruistic, I would have no problems with the probe
We have been fed with figures that are based on gossips, half truths and sensation
Cannot use corruption to fight corruption
I still maintain the execrcise is a waste of public fund and will not improve any process
