PoliticsBuhari Celebrates Goodluck Jonathan To Mark One Year In Office by olillywales(op): 7:34am On May 31, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has once again celebrated and reiterated former president Goodluck Jonathan's role in the emergence of him an his party after conceding defeat during last administration.

The president who spoke at a press luncheon he hosted for State House Press Corps as part of the activities to commemorate this year’s Democracy Day at the Presidential Banquet Hall, Aso Rock, however, regretted while the former president displayed a high level of patriotism by conceding defeat, his ministers did not share such a disposition with him.

“Jonathan’s disposition on the phone that fateful evening when he personally called me to congratulate me on the election victory, even before the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was done with the announcement of the results still baffles me,” he said.

Buhari said he was shocked because for someone who was a deputy governor, a governor, a vice president and a president for six years to concede that easily showed Jonathan’s “great sense of patriotism.”

He recalled that another former military Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, advised him to visit Jonathan for his “statesmanship and decision to save the Nigerian state.”

Buhari also said Jonathan belonged to a party that was at the helm of affairs for 16 years and for him to still go ahead and concede “was definitely not an easy decision.”

The President added that during the visit to thank Jonathan, Abubakar again advised that in order to smoothen the transition process, he, Buhari, should set up a committee to meet with the outgoing ministers of Jonathan to begin the process of handover at that level.
“Jonathan sincerely agreed to the suggestion and I got one of the best bureaucrats, in the person of Ahmed Joda, and told him to look round the country and come up with a team for the task.

CelebritiesPHOTOS: Runtown Parts Ways With His Label, Eric Manny Records by olillywales(op): 7:21am On May 31, 2016
Nigerian singer, songwriter and producer Runtown has parted ways with his record label, Eric Manny Records (or at least he's trying to) and they didn't do so on the best of terms. Eric Manny, owned by billionaire businessman, Okwudili Umenyiora, has gotten a court injunction stopping Runtown from performing as an artist, amongst other things, pending when they settle their issues.

Runtown got his lawyers to write to the label, claiming threat to life, extortion, and that he didn't get his payment/royalties from performances, ring-back tunes and etc. He also said he has returned all properties he received from the label when he signed with them in 2014. Read his letter to the owner of Eric Manny and his lawyers letters after the cut...(will bring Eric Manny's side of the story later)

PoliticsIyiola Omisore Reacts To EFCC Declaring Wanted by olillywales(op): 9:31pm On May 24, 2016
The former Osun state deputy governor who was declared wanted today by EFCC for receiving N700 million from the office of the former National Security Adviser, NSA, has released a statement describing the EFCC's action as blackmail. Read the statement below..

I read the statement issued by the Econimic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) purportedly declaring me wanted as an attempt by that organisation and its leadership to tarnish my image. That statement, if indeed it was issued by the EFCC, is the height of mischief and a deliberate attempt to assassinate my character.

It is now very clear that the EFCC is indeed playing out the script of persecuting and harassing perceived opposition groups in the country. To be sure, there is no basis for the EFCC so-called statement. Only on Tuesday, May 24, we appeared in court with the EFCC asking for the permission of the court for an extension of time in the preliminary objection to a suit filed against me.

The Managing Director of Firmex Gill which the EFCC joined in their case indemnified me from the company's contracts and any such obligations. In other words, there is nothing relating to me in the company's contract deal with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).

The company has even sued the ONSA for its inability to pay the balance of the contract so awarded to it. Therefore, I am not aware of any issue relating to a contract sum of N700 million. There was no issue of N700 million anywhere.

The relationship between the company and ONSA is civil and contractual, which has nothing to do with me. Besides, so long as their business transactions are legitimate and since I am not directly managing the company, how am I to know who and who they do business with? The EFCC should not be seen playing the role of political victimisation of innocent individuals, coercion and blackmail. Sadly that is simply what this organisation has been doing. Blackmail, I strongly believe, won't help EFCC.

If the organisation and its leadership think they have any case against me, they should come to court with their facts. This act of blackmail and deliberate tarnishing the image of perceived political enemies won't help the image of the EFCC and it won't get it result.

How can you declare someone you were in court with at 9.00a.m today wanted the same day, a few hours afterwards? I am appealing to all human rights and civil society organisations to caution EFCC from damaging my reputation further. If they have facts, I challenge them to bring them to court and not resort to blackmail, intimidation and victimisation.

Signed: Senator Iyiola Omisore

PoliticsFuel Importation Will End In 2019 – Kachikwu by olillywales(op): 1:39pm On May 24, 2016
Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu, said the Federal Government was targeting 2019 to end fuel importation in the country.

Kachikwu disclosed this when he was speaking at an interactive session on removal of fuel subsidy organised by Coalition of Civil Society Organisations (CSOs), in Lagos.

“For the first time, I am putting so much strength in terms of what do we do with our refineries, because that ultimately is the solution.

“I must make the refineries work so that the staff can justify their work.

“I am going around looking for investors to come in a joint venture basis to put in money into the refineries and make them work.

“I can authoritatively say to you that given the constraints that we face, the plan is that by December 2018 we should have reduced our importation of petroleum product by 60 per cent.

“This is because we would have brought enough money to get our refineries working to the tune of about 90 per cent,” the minister said.

According to him, for the first time in 10 years, the three refineries are working but at less than 40 per cent capacity.

He said by the time the refineries were working at optimal capacity and the commencement of production by Dangote Refinery in 2019, Nigeria would be able to refine 1.4 million barrels per day.

PoliticsBorno Emirs Return To Palace, 2 Years After Fleeing Boko Haram Insurgents by olillywales(op): 1:19pm On May 24, 2016
Two out of the five Borno emirs forced to flee their domain by Boko Haram terrorists, have returned to their palaces.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the emirs fled to Maiduguri two years ago when the insurgents took control of their domain in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of the state.

The insurgents took control of the area in August 2015 and announced establishment of Caliphate rule, forcing residents including the emirs to flee.

The insurgents were however mauled down by the military who took total control of the area and restored normalcy.

The two emirs, Alhaji Muhammadu Askirama of Askira, and Alhaji Ismaila Mamza of Uba, returned to their respective palaces on Tuesday in company of Borno Deputy Governor, Alhaji Mamman Durkuwa.

Speaking at a short ceremony at their palaces, the emirs commended the Nigerian military for their gallantry in routing the Boko Haram terrorists.

They expressed optimism that terrorism would end soon in the country, going by the successes being recorded by the military.

NAN reports that three other emirs yet to return to their domain include the Emir of Bama, Alhaji Kyari El-Kanemi, Emir of Dikwa, Muhammad Ibn Masta, and Chief of Gwoza Alhaji Muhammad Timta. The three are still residing in Maiduguri, the state capital.

PoliticsWhy PDP Had To Let Modu-sheriff Go - Wike by olillywales(op): 7:40am On May 23, 2016
In a statement released by the Special Assistant to the Rivers State Governor, Electronic media, Simeon Nwakaudu, The Chairman of the 2016 Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Convention Planning Committee and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has explained that the party had to let Former Acting National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff go because his leadership was destabilising the party.
In an interview on Saturday night after the 2016 National Convention in Port Harcourt, Governor Wike said: "All along, the crisis has been about the former acting chairman whose emergence was strongly opposed.

"This is destabilising the party and so we had to let him go. What is important is the party and not the individual. No sacrifice is too much for anyone to make as far as PDP is concerned ".

He noted that he had no personal interest in supporting Senator Modu Sheriff as he was the best option at the time he emerged.

He said that PDP will continue to grow from strength to strength as it remains the only hope for the country.

Governor Wike said: "We will not allow the PDP to die or suffer divisions under our watch. History will never forgive us if we watch the party die."
The governor said that the party leaders would work towards maintaining unity amongst all members of the party.

He said despite the challenges, the 2016 National Convention was successful as the party has been repositioned in the interest of the nation.

CrimeEx-Army Captain Commits Suicide In Calabar by olillywales(op): 7:35am On May 23, 2016
A retired army officer, Friday William, has reportedly hung himself to death in Calabar, Cross Rivers state.
William, who hails from Mkpat Enin, Akwa Ibom State, was said to have allegedly tied a rope on a mango tree outside his apartment at 34, Edim Otop Street in the night of Tuesday while his family was asleep and hung himself, Vanguard gathered.

Although the reason for his act is yet to be ascertained, sources alleged that the man who fathered eight children, may have been mentally challenged.

According to a neighbour, Abasi Imoh, “The man had about three cars and got a lot of money from his retirement benefits two years ago and was living well which is the reason many people are surprised with his action.

“He was not poor because he had three cars and had built a house in his village and was generally doing well that is why we were surprised with his action.

“We woke up in the morning to behold the body dangling on the mango tree outside the compound and we do not know what was responsible for his action.

“Before hanging himself, the retired captain reportedly sent a text message to his son, who lives in Port Harcourt at about 10pm, to condole with him over his death and advised him to be strong to take care of his siblings, but the son did not see the message until he got a call the next morning that his father had committed suicide and I feel he had tied the rope ready for the act before he sent the text,” Abasi added.

Meanwhile, the remains of the retired captain of the Nigerian Army has been reportedly taken to his hometown.

PoliticsBayelsa Youths Arrest Agip Pipeline Bombers by olillywales(op): 8:34pm On May 22, 2016
*Governor Dickson promises reward to the gallant youths

Armed youths from Ikienghenbiri community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have been arrested for vandalising a major oil pipeline with dynamites.

Reports say, the group, which was led by Suoyou, Iyelawei and Fyneboy vandalised the pipeline along the Azuzuama – Ikienghenbiri axis of the trunk line conveying crude oil from the Nigerian Agip Oil Company flow station at Tebidaba to Brass.

A statement issued on Sunday in Yenagoa by the Bayelsa State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Jonathan Obuebite, said the pipeline vandals were apprehended by youths of Azuzuama community, who got wind of the action.

They were arrested with the support of operatives of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and one of them was shot in the leg while trying to escape.

Obuebite expressed delight that the arrests were coming on the heels of Governor Seriake Dickson’s meeting with Traditional Rulers and Chairmen of Community Development Communities( CDC) where the Governor directly placed the responsibility of maintaining peace and safeguarding oil facilities in their domains on their shoulders.

The Commissioner praised the youths of Azuzuama Community “for their gallantry, patriotic disposition and commitment to the peace and economic well being of the state and Nigeria as a whole.”

According to him, Dickson would “invite them and reward them for responding positively to his clarion call when it mattered most.”

Obuebite also called on other communities to emulate the Azuzuama community, adding that, “if every other communities can act in like manner, the current wave of attacks on national assets and related criminal acts will be drastically minimised, if not completely eliminated.”

He re-aasured community leaders and youths of government’s preparedness to continue to support and partner with them in the protection of lives and property.

Celebrities‘god Is Punishing Ibinabo Fiberesima For Banning Me’ – Crystabel Goody by olillywales(op): 8:21pm On May 22, 2016
https://www.360nobs.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Ibinabo-Fiberesima1-1-650x400.jpg

Goody had been banned for biting a colleague by Fiberesima, and claimed that God was now punishing the then AGN president for what she called a flimsy ban.

She said in a recent interview: “Ibinabo was accused of killing somebody and she was walking on the street, bragging before the law caught up with her. I believe that it is because she passed a wrong judgement against me that God is punishing her. Her ban against me was flimsy and uncalled for even though it has been lifted by Emeka Ike.

“I was in her office and she told me that I was a very decent young lady from the way we were chatting, my lawyer was there and I am quoting her verbatim. She told me not to worry that the matter was just a fight between two people. She advised that I work on my temperament. She said that she would settle the matter and reverse the ban.

“She even went as far as taking me to the stadium where they had their veteran football competition and introduced me to the chairman, board of trustees and some directors. As she was introducing me, some of the men told me that I didn’t look the part of a fighter and that I should be more careful next time and avoid people who would trigger my anger. She promised the man that she would take control of the situation.

“She asked me to come to her office the next day and I was there with my lawyer, we waited for seven hours but Ibinabo refused to see me. She gave a flimsy excuse that the other actress was not available because she went to treat her wound. My lawyer was of the opinion that the other girl did not have to be there, that all Ibinabo should have done was to reconcile us and reverse the ban she placed on me.

“She is certainly paying for the wickedness she meted out on me because God does not joke with me. I don’t go about looking for trouble; I live a very private life. I am not a saint but I try my best to help people.

A tragic Sunday as a Peace Mass Transit Bus collided with a yellow truck along the Umuahia-Okigwe Road at about 6.30pm on Sunday, May 22, 2016.

Princewill Atasie, an eye-witness, told www.metronaija.com that due to a heavy rain, the road was slippery and this unfortunate incident happened when the yellow truck was overtaking another vehicle on the road.

“The other lane of the expressway is bad, so commuters are using one side, creating a one-way situation,” Atasie told our reporter on phone. “It appears as if the driver miscalculated as he was overtaking another vehicle which led to the head-on collusion.”

Images from the ghastly motor accident shows that the driver of the Peace Mass Transit bus and many passengers may have died on the spot.

As at the time of reporting this, first responders are yet to arrive at the scene of the accident.

May the souls of the departed, rest in peace.

PoliticsDele Okeya Joins APC With 5,000 PDP Members In Ekiti by olillywales(op): 8:07am On May 16, 2016
https://cdn.dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/aPC.jpg

The ranks of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State swelled at the weekend as a prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) stalwart, Chief Dele Okeya, defected to the broom party.
Okeya, a former Commissioner during the first tenure of Governor Ayo Fayose, led over 5,000 PDP members into the APC at a rally held over the weekend at Emure Ekiti, headquarters of Emure Local Government Area.

All the defectors who came from all the ten wards in the council area were received into their new party by the state APC Chairman, Chief Olajide Awe, who was represented by his deputy, Mrs. Kemi Olaleye.

Other leaders who received Okeya into the APC fold included Ekiti South Senatorial Chairman, Kayode Babade; State Publicity Secretary, Taiwo Olatunbosun; former House of Representatives member, Dr. Ife Arowosoge; former deputy governorship candidate, Alhaja Mariam Ogunlade, among others.

Okeya, who is an in-law to the former Chief of Staff to former President Goodluck Jonathan, Chief Mike Oghiadomhe, said he had to leave the PDP because the umbrella party has been taken over by those he described as “criminals, crooks, rogues and ragamuffins.”

He said the PDP in Ekiti lacks internal democracy and has become a “one-man show and sole proprietorship in which the governor has hijacked the functions of the Deputy Governor, Speaker, Secretary to the State Government, Chief of Staff and State Party Chairman.”

Okeya said: “The disenchantment I had with PDP is that it had lost focus and direction. We built PDP from scratch and by the grace of God we made it an election-winning platform but the leadership lost direction.

“Rogues, criminals and ragamuffins have taken hijacked the party; there is lack of internal democracy and it was imposition galore. No sane person when one man hijacks every aspect.

“In fact, they have willingly subverted the constitution of the party, abandoned its manifesto and that type of party cannot produce good governance.

“They are so selfish, self-centred and internal conflict resolution mechanism has been abandoned. They don’t obey any rules again and it is a party of anything goes; it is a party of impunity and their impunity has driven Nigeria to where it is today.

“You can see the crowd that is joining APC with me, we are over 5,000 and more are still coming. With me in APC now, PDP cannot win any election here again.”

Awe described Okeya as a grassroots politician who would add value to the APC. He explained that all those who are joining the party would be accorded all the privileges due to them.

The party chief charged APC members to continue to work on other PDP members with a view to winning them over to their broom party.

Babade said Okeya is now a progressive, saying the ideals of the APC is to provide good governance.

Olatunbosun said the APC despite being in the opposition is waxing stronger everyday, saying the party would not rest on its oars until it wins back power to offer quality

Mixed reactions have trailed the planned strike action by the Nigeria Labor Congress NLC over the increase in the pump price of petrol from N86.50 to N145 per liter. From the reactions on twitter, it appears many Nigerians have lost faith in NLC as most of them are saying they will not be participating in the proposed strike scheduled to take place on Wednesday May 18th if the Federal government doesn't revert to the old pump price of N86.50. See more of their tweets after the cut.
