These photos were taken at the burial ceremony of the mother of Ebonyi state governor, David Umahi last Friday. The Senate President and his supporters, mostly Senators and political cronies from Kwara State are already inside the court room of the Code of Conduct Tribunal waiting for proceedings to commence. The Senate President came in at about 10 a.m. Justice Danladi Umar and his partners are yet to come in. But from all indications, the trial proper may not begin as Saraki and his lawyers will ask the judge to stay action pending their appeals over jurisdiction, pursuing the same course of rigmarole at the start of the case last year. Umar had fixed today as trial date after dismissing the objection raised by Saraki’s lead lawyer, Kanu Agabi, a former justice minister and attorney-general. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/bukola-saraki-arrives-conduct-tribunal.html

The Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) has called on the Federal and the Lagos State governments to find a place in their hearts to support T.B. Joshua’s ministry rather than try to persecute him with the ongoing criminal trial of contractors who handled the collapse of a guest house belonging to his church. This call was made when a delegation, led by its Lagos state Chapter, Comrade Idowu Adelakun, paid T.B. Joshua a courtesy call and conferred him with title of an icon of religious tourism. tbjoshua.jpe Adelakun said: “The Synagogue Church of All Nations (SCOAN) remains the only ministry in Africa that attracts the highest number of foreign visitors thereby boosting the religious tourism potentials of Nigeria and also earning huge foreign exchange for the country.” He described Joshua as a leading light in Africa, pointing out that his humanitarian efforts have received world-wide recognition. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/nigerian-government-should-not.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
It was a as of dog eats dog when a police Sergeant identified as Jude Nwadudu, died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where he was rushed to after he allegedly collapsed during a sex romp with the wife of a colleague, said to be a Corporal, at a hotel in the Iju area of the state. It was gathered that Nwadudu, a father of four, had gone to the hotel in company of the woman whose husband lives in the same barracks as the deceased, to round up the Easter celebrations with some rounds of sex, but ended up dead. Tragedy reportedly struck when Nwadudu slumped after some rounds of sex with his secret lover, when he slipped in the bathroom and hit his head while having a shower. The lover was said to have raised an alarm that attracted members of staff of the hotel and the late officer who was attached to the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), Ikeja, was rushed to a nearby hospital, from where he was transferred to LUTH, where he later died. His married lover was invited for questioning but was later released, an action that has not gone down well with Nwandudu's widow, herself a Sergeant in the police, who is insisting that her husband's lover be held responsible for his death. According to neighbour's of the deceased, the husband of Nwadudu's lover had once accused him of sleeping with his wife, something he and the woman denied vehemently and it almost resulted in a fight between the officers. A fellow officer in the barracks, is however suspecting that the Corporal must have laced his wife with a potent charm known as 'Magun', which is meant to curb promiscuity by married women. “Now that he is dead, some people are attributing it to magun (charm). The Corporal has since chased his wife away,” the officer said. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/police-sergeant-dies-during-marathon.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
Nigeria has arrested a person suspected of having bombed an oil pipeline belonging to Italy’s ENI in the southern Delta region, the commander of a state security force said on Wednesday. The attack was one of the worst in recent weeks in the impoverished swampland, where tensions have been building since authorities issued an arrest warrant in January for a former militant leader on corruption charges. Sunday’s pipeline blast killed three people, said Desmond Agu, commander of the force in Bayelsa state where the explosion occurred. ENI also confirmed in a statement that three people had been killed by an act of “sabotage”. The suspect, named Seimghale Perekeyi, planted the bomb with four other men who are still on the run after oil workers carried out repair works at the pipeline in the Olugboboro community, Agu told reporters. “The anti-vandalism unit of the command trailed and arrested him (Perekeyi) while the others remain at large but are still being trailed by our men,” Agu said as officers paraded before the media the suspect, who was arrested on Tuesday. Several bodies were burned in the pipeline blast beyond recognition, while seven were injured with burns, according to residents. Attacks have been on the rise for weeks in the Delta, which provides most of Nigeria’s oil and gas wealth. Militant groups have long demanded a greater share of the mineral wealth and an end to oil pollution in the region. In February militants staged a sophisticated underwater attack, probably using divers, on a Shell pipeline, shutting down the 250,000 barrel-a-day Forcados export terminal. President Muhammadu Buhari, elected a year ago, has extended a multi-million dollar amnesty signed with the militants in 2009, but he has upset them by ending generous pipeline protection contracts. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/pipeline-bomber-arrested-in-delta.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

A video uploaded by TB Joshua's official YouTube channel Emmanuel TV purportedly shows a young man transforming into a ‘dog’ during a deliverance session. He started acting strangely even to the extent of eating one of his shoes. According to the video description: "The demon within this young Liberian man is shockingly exposed, the entirety of his features contorting to the resemblance, movement and eerie sounds of a wild dog. The 'delivered man introduced himself as Alexander Johnson after the prayer and explained that his problems began after he was sexually molested by a mad. Johnson his life was characterised by frustration and a serious ‘lust’ for women. Johnson said he had no memory of what occurred during the deliverance. "There is no way I could have done these things," he claims, insisting it was the influence of an ‘evil spirit’. Pope Francis washed and kissed the feet of Muslim, Christian and Hindu refugees on Thursday and declared them all children of the same God, as he emphasised solidarity with other faiths at a time of increased anti-Muslim sentiments following the attacks on Brussels which killed over 30. Pope Francis denounced the carnage as a “gesture of war” carried out by bloodthirsty people beholden to the weapons industry during an Easter Week Mass with asylum-seekers at a shelter in Castelnuovo di Porto, outside of Rome. The Holy Thursday rite re-enacts the foot-washing ritual Jesus performed on his apostles before being crucified, and is meant to be a gesture of service. Francis contrasted that gesture with the “gesture of destruction” carried out by the Brussels attackers, saying they wanted to destroy the brotherhood of humanity represented by the migrants. "We have different cultures and religions, but we are brothers and we want to live in peace,” Francis said in his homily, delivered off-the-cuff in the windy courtyard of the court. Several of the migrants then wept as Francis knelt before them, poured holy water from a brass pitcher over their feet, wiped them clean and kissed them. Francis was greeted with a banner reading “Welcome” in a variety of languages as he walked down a makeshift aisle to celebrate the Mass. But only a fraction of the 892 asylum-seekers living at the shelter attended, and many of the seats were left empty. Those who came out, though, received a personal greeting from the Pope at the end of Mass, with the pontiff even posing for selfies and accepting notes as he moved down the rows. Vatican rules had long called for only men to participate in the foot-washing ritual, and previous popes and many priests traditionally performed it on 12 Catholic men, symbolising Jesus’ 12 apostles and further cementing the doctrine of an all-male priesthood. The Vatican said on Thursday that four women and eight men took part. The women included an Italian Catholic who works at the centre and three Eritrean Coptic Christian migrants. The men included four Catholics from Nigeria, three Muslims from Mali, Syria and Pakistan and a Hindu man from India. The Vatican’s new norms said anyone from the “people of God” could be chosen to participate in the ceremony. While the phrase “people of God” refers to baptized Christians, the decree also said that pastors should instruct “both the chosen faithful and others so that they may participate in the rite consciously, actively and fruitfully,” suggesting that the rite could be open to non-Catholics as well. The Vatican spokesman, the Reverend Federico Lombardi, said the Vatican norms are meant for traditional liturgies in Catholic communities, not necessarily a unique papal Mass where the overall message is one of universal brotherhood and the love of God for all his children. "We must always take the pastoral context into account," Lombardi said in an email. “Norms that are appropriate for a parish celebration aren’t to be considered binding on a very unique celebration of the pope in a refugee center with a non-Christian majority." Labour unions in the country have called for the resignation of Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu after the latter said fuel scarcity may persists in the country for the next two months. Read: I'm Not a Magician, Fuel Scarcity Won't End Soon - Kachikwu General Secretary of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Dr. Peter Ozo-Eson, described as unfortunate Kachikwu’s statement that it would take more than two months for the current fuel queues to clear. “As far as we are concerned, one day of queues is unacceptable to Nigerians, and the hardship Nigerians have been subjected to, through the queues over a long period now, is actually something that should be condemned. “Apart from the hardship to Nigerians, the cost of these protracted queues on an economy that is already in crisis is enormous, and actually makes the issue of the revival of the economy even more difficult.’’ The Trade Union Congress specifically asked the minister to step down instead of giving Nigerians excuses on why it would be impossible to get fuel easily in the country before June. “If he is not a magician, he should resign now. What we are saying is that Nigerians are getting impatient with him," Bala Kaigama, TUC president said. “So, if he has no quick fix to it, he should just quit. We are getting impatient. He is moving from one unpopular policy to another, yet we cannot see any quick fix," he added. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/nigerias-labour-union-calls-for.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Read the statement below... The Ekiti State House of Assembly says it has instructed its counsel to seek redress and damages over what it calls “the undemocratic, unpatriotic, dictatorial and brutish” incarceration of one of its members, Mr Afolabi Akanni, by the Department of State Services (DSS) for 18 days with neither explanation nor trial in court. The House of Assembly, which condemned “strongly the illegal arrest, detention and dehumanization of Honourable Akanni” and demanded unreserved apology, made this disclosure on Wednesday at a press conference held at its chamber in Ado-Ekiti, the state capital. Reading the text of the address to journalists, the chairman of the House Committee on Information, Youths and Sports, Chief Olugboyega Aribisogan, said that the DSS did not contact any stakeholder to intimate them of the release of Akanni, adding that members of the House read the news, like every other Nigerians, online on Tuesday night. “Up till this moment, we have not been told officially by the DSS whether or not Honourable Akanni was formally released from incarceration after spending 18 days without access to his doctors, lawyers and family members. “However, preliminary information available to us suggests that Honourable Akanni may have been brought to the hospital by men of the DSS and abandoned there because they could no longer hold him in captivity because of his deteriorating health condition. “Nigerians should be reminded that it took the rumour of Honourable Akanni’s death for the DSS to admit officially that it was holding him after spending 15 days in detention without access to anyone. As we speak, Honourable Akanni is in very critical condition and he has not been able to speak with anyone of us. “We, therefore, demand an official explanation from the DSS as to why Honourable Akanni was abducted and held incommunicado for 18 days, only for us to be told that he was admitted in a private hospital in Abuja. “Furthermore, we demand an explanation from the DSS whether in a democracy, it is part of its mandate to disobey court orders and dump Nigerians in detention for 18 days over unfounded allegations. “Most importantly, we condemn strongly the DSS illegal arrest, detention and dehumanization of Honourable Akanni and we demand an unreserved apology forthwith. “We have also directed our counsel to seek redress and damages in court, because, to us, this act of impunity by the DSS under President Muhammadu Buhari is undemocratic, unpatriotic, dictatorial and brutish,” Aribisogan said. The House also alleged that the DSS had been going about sniffing about its members’ secondary school qualifications, adding, however, that they were not bothered about this. The members said they wished to advise the DSS to pay attention to the growing insecurity in the country, instead of acting as an arm of the All Progressives Congress (APC) “to pursue the evil agenda of destabilizing the Ayo Fayose-led government,” adding that the Assembly members remained united and resolutely committed to the development of Ekiti State as being championed by Governor Fayose. Speaker of the House, Right Honourable (Pastor) Kola Oluwawole, during a question and answer session with journalists, noted that it was wrong for anyone to have accused the state governor of lying when he raised the alarm that Honourable Akanni had died in DSS detention last week. He said the information received by the government, as confirmed by Akanni himself when he was eventually shown on television, indicated that he had been so sick to the extent that he collapsed twice in a single day. “For anyone who saw such a person slump and probably was not revived before the privilege of information was terminated, would it be wrong to say such a victim had died? The answer is no! Akanni did slump but lived, the outcome could have been otherwise,” he said. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/ekiti-house-drags-dss-fg-to-court.html cc: lalasticlala myndd44 |

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State has suspended its Chairman, Alhaji Haruna Doguwa and the Organising Secretary, Alhaji Sunusi Suraj, for alleged gross misconduct. The party’s Secretary, Alhaji Abbas Sani-Abbas announced the suspension of the two party officials when he addressed a news conference in Kano on Saturday. Sani-Abbas said the party took the decision in order to allow the seven-man disciplinary committee it set up to investigate the alleged misconduct. He said the party had appointed Alhaji Abdullahi Abbas, the Special Adviser on Political Affairs to Gov. Abdullahi Ganduje as the Acting Chairman of the party. Sani-Abbas said the suspension was endorsed by the former and serving members of the National Assembly and all the chairmen of the 44 local governments in the state. The suspension, he added, was equally endorsed by 30 out of the 39 members of the House of Assembly, vice chairmen and secretaries of the local governments. He said the committee had been given one week within which to submit its report to the executive committee of the party for further action. “If the disciplinary committee establishes any evidence to the fact that the suspended officials were culpable or not, it is left to the executive committee to take appropriate action,’’ he said. He said APC’s earlier position on former governor Musa Kwankwaso, remained since it violated the party’s constitution. He, however, said that what was needed most was cohesion, unity and progress of the party at the time the Ganduje’s administration was striving to reposition the state. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/kano-apc-suspends-chairman-secretary.html cc: lalasticlala |

The Nigerian government has secretly reintroduced the payment of subsidy on kerosene to the tune of N1.17 for every litre of the product consumed across the country. www.metronaija.com reports that the revelation was made when the latest data from the pricing templates of the Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA was reviewed. However, minister of state for petroleum resources, Dr Ibe Kachikwu had insisted that the federal government never terminated petrol and kerosene subsidy, and that the all the move was simply a modulation of the prices of the commodities in view of the global price crash in oil prices. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/buhari-secretly-reintroduces-kerosene.html cc: lalasticlala |
