Politics › Re: Doyin Okupe: North Has Not Forgiven Igbos For Killing Sardauna Of Sokoto by olisaEze(m): 5:22pm On Mar 21, 2021
festacman:
Yes, Sarduana was killed by young soldiers led by a young officer who was more Hausa than Igbo. On the flip side, Aguiyi Ironsi was killed by Northern soldiers led by T.Y Danjuma. Yes, Igbo suffered progrom and civil war. However after the war, Igbo who lived in the North went back and were warmly welcomed. They repossessed their properties unlike the case of abandoned property. And many more millionaires were made

However, I can't deny that there exist mutual SUSPICION rather than UNFORGIVENESS or hatred between Hausa/Fulani and Igbo just as we also have between Yoruba and Igbo. This suspicion borders on who will outwit each other given that Igbos are seen as 'too clever or crafty' in pursuit of target interests. So, the other ethnic groups more like keep their antennas up and examine everything microscopically when dealing with Igbo.

Outside of politics, there are thousands Igbo traders in the urban and rural parts of Northern Nigeria doing businesses, meeting the needs of those communities and making modest profits in return. If there is a deep-rooted unforgiveness as Doyin Okupe is insinuating, those people won't be thriving there. Personally, I did my NYSC in Safana in Katsina and I and other corps members, who were largely Igbo, mixed freely with the locals. We raised money from the locals for projects and were supported with palpable willingness.

Doyin Okupe is entitled to his opinion. My own opinion is that the problem is SUSPICION rather than UNFORGIVENESS or hatred.
God bless you for this rebuttal my broda. The amazing thing is that those that push that Okupe's narrative are South Westerners.

No Northerner i have met or known in all my days schooling and working in the North have ever said this.

Which begs the question who is more disturbed about that coup, the West or the North? Bearing in mind that it was the West that first described it as an Igbo coup even though Maj. Kaduna Nzeogwu was more Hausa than the Bendel that he originated from.

Well there’s cause for you to be angry which I understand very well, but have you explored enough to see the behavior of some Muslims? I will like you to visit Quora an international forum and see the way Muslims are contributing intelligently. Just because of the mayhem of the few shouldn’t depict the behaviors of the rest.
I have had an account with Quora since 2013, and I understand that the behavior of most Nigerian Muslims does not constitute a standard for the Nation of Islam.

But damn, the way they leave themselves open to manipulation by their politicians and religious leaders in Nigeria really irks me. The Christians are not left out from manipulations, but no one pastor or even CAN as a body can influence their members to violence so easily.
Politics › Re: Where Are The Interlectuals Of Old Nairaland by olisaEze(m):
I was a guest on NL for years before I registered an account.
Back then it was really educative and informative with intelligent comments and intellectual arguments.

We didn’t all see eye to eye but then, harmony comes from a blend of different sounds. I wouldn’t have been surprised if Shekau also browsed NL to keep abreast of the world outside Sambisa. grin

To me it signified an era of youths that hungered for better in their country.

What we’re seeing now is the animosity and hateful rhetorics filtered in from 2014 by desperate politicians.

Most of the monikers frequenting the front pages now offer only politically motivated propaganda and bile. Everyone wants to air their opinions even when they know next to nothing about the topic.

It’s so sad but my beloved NL is just a representation of the sorry state of the nation.

Continue to RIP HungerBad.

Christianity has done a lot to better our life and improve on our living standard, what has islam done/brought to this world aside terrorism, pain and agony? Why is these Muslims dragging a school built by christians? Why not build your own school?
Because in Nigeria Muslims don’t build. They only steal, kill & destroy in the name of their god. They’d rather the country becomes like Afghanistan for easy access to keep stealing the oil money. Lazy mofos

They’re trying to silence this man. But no matter how hard they try, God still pass devil.

At this rate, very soon the boldness of these so called bandits will lead them to to attempt to seize one government house in the North.

Maybe then Nigerians will realize that there is a war currently on for the soul of this country and that man in the Rock has to be impeached for sanity to prevail.

In Nigeria people think leadership is a title, not understanding that it is a responsibility.

They can’t afford to mobilize security to safeguard farmers, but can deploy soldiers to intimidate and bomb villages with the excuse that an unknown soldier died there.

GerogeI:
Ha ha ha.

Are you discrediting my Grandfathers map. Which he drew on a tree? You can't be serious.

All the activities you mentioned are those conducted under British tutelage. That's why you used British map.

Each group has a name for the River, we call it Orimiri. Why then do you think what the British called it is more important than what Igbos, Igalas, Hausas etc called it. At the end they are also a tribe - Anglo Saxons and Scots. In fact we are even more in population
The world knows it by a certain name, a name provided by the British.

We however are still operating our system of government no different from the motley group of tribesmen the Europeans met & left behind.

In the committee of nations, such a people have little or no power to effect such a change in world history.

Meanwhile, only Regina can argue with the ancestors broda. grin grin

You mean the British map?
Are you aware there are various other map sources. You only choose the most popular due to British indoctrination.

Even the British choose theres due to Roman indoctrination. None of these claims is a Universal truth as being stated.

My own forefathers drew their own maps on sand and tree barks. Who says they have no credit? They called the river Orimili. And passed that information through Oral tales.
Which map has Orimili on it? Even the one used to divided and create states in Nigeria since 1914 till date doesn’t have it. Abi do the Igalas & Ebiras call it the same name in their tree maps too? grin

The British fine tuned what the Romans left for them, we on the other hand still haven’t been able to define who a Nigerian is!

BTW the map we’re talking about here is not the one ur forefathers used to describe family land o. grin

Okay this is going to be a long one, but bear with me first.

Mungo Park is credited as the discoverer of the River Niger for more than one reason.

Yes locals lived and traded on its banks for centuries, but the river was not added to the map we use till date because of the locals but him.

Oh yes, your country is still being mapped out from the mold left by the colonials.

The river was known by another name to the locals but guess what, the name on the map is River Niger! grin As quoted by guess again, Mungo Park! grin
