It is a single 550w panel. I dont really know much about orientation. I just placed the panel outside. I am waiting to get one more before putting it on the roof. My controller is a 40A HQST MPPT Charge controller. Can you please shed some light on the orientation. Maybe that could be one of my issues

My Jinko panel is clean. It is brand new. So no dust on it yet. Just 3days old and I have been taking the reading over the course of three days. Good shinning sunlight. Yet the max I am getting is 270w out of the Jinko 550W

Hello guys, I bought some generic 300W panel from a Solar shop. 2pcs. It was during raining season so sun wasn't really out that period. I noticed on my HQST MPPT charge controller, the panel wasnt giving me more than 80W out of the stated 300w. (The MPPT charge controller shows you how many volt and Amps that is coming in from the solar panel). So I thought maybe it is because we were in raining season that period. Fast forward to January with full sun, I was getting 105w max per panel to give 210w out of the supposed 600W I am supposed to get. So I concluded I have bought fake panels. Then I decided, this time around I will buy original Jinko 550w from an authorized dealer. So I went straight to Foauni store(one of the authorized dealers in Nigeria). On getting home, I noticed I was only 275w out of the stated 550w too. Foauni does not sell fake products so I know I did not buy fake this time around. So I was wondering, is this the normal way solar panels work. Delivering just 50% of their rated wattage even in full bright sun. And even when my battery is very low this is still what I get. I know most times, when batteries are almost full, your MPPT enters float mode and reduces the power coming in from your panels but even at low battery percentage, I am still not getting more than 50% of the rated wattage of the Jinko 550w panel in full bright sunlight. My MPPT controller tracks the wattage all day and tells you at the end of the day the highest wattage the panel supplied and the highest I got on the 550w panel is 280W. Is this how solar panels work in Nigeria because most solar panel reviews in the US that I watch on Youtube, those panels produce atleast 80% of their rated capacity

Actually, they all had same volts 3.2V~3.3V. Can't be too sure, cuz I used analog meter to measure.

I doubt the problem is from your inverter. Upgrade the size of the cable connecting the inverter to the batteries. Also shorten the length of the cable connecting the batteries to the inverter. Finally, make sure your batteries can adequately provide the surge current needed to start the fridge without dropping voltage to a very low one.

I have run a chest freezer of 150watts with a 1kw sachet inverter without issues. I have also run a 90watts fridge on a 500watts inverter before.

The only downside to using these sachet inverters is how poorly they handle electrical surge.

My TB inverter has been gathering dust for long. Those things are power guzzlers. Except you have deep pockets stick with sachet inverters.

Most people buy inverters they will never fully utilize.

I just tire for that bros. I have been powering 2 deep freezers on 12v systems since 2 years now and I am yet to change my batteries. Man just spills theoretical gibberish all day long

me gan sef, seeing a 12volts system powering a Freezer is some how. Even if it works, you would overStress the batteries faster than necessary.
And the 2pcs of 345Watts solar panels sef is small.

More than a month ago, @Leun reached out to discuss a possible solar solution, which we first need to be on the same page.

This is mine. The soc usually stop at 98% while the individual cells and TotalVolt will keep charging till it gets to the set value.

Please, those that are using Jbd bms should give me more education on it.
I attached 150A Jbd bms to 160ah 48v battery bank and carried out all the settings to the best of my knowledge.
The major challenge I'm having now is how to push the soc to 100% while charging. The soc usually stop at 98% with individual cells of about 3.4v each.
At this point, the individual cells will keep charging, moving forward to my set value of 3.45v each and the TotalVolt will equally move to 55.22v.
Why is the soc not moving to 100% as the individual cells and TotalVolt are moving?
At 3.45v each cells and 55.22v TotalVolt, the battery is fully charged and won't accept charge again. Once I noticed this, I would go to Control and click on Reset Capacity to push the soc to 100%.
Is this the usual practice in jbd bms?

His 1.5kva system is 12v....no way it can run the pump. @12v..he wud need about 55amps...assuming the pump can even accept 12v.

@ fan, was told its something going bad in the fan.will get worse with time till the fan fails.

Just as I earlier said, I didn't want us to go deeply into the fraudulent activities of most Chinese lifepo4 battery Vendors.
Our guys selling lifepo4 batteries here should be mindful of the information they drop here as most of us are well informed.

I gbadu your inputs here well well but as I no be keyboard warrior I say make I maintain for corner the look many of them do called solar pros here.
Little piece of advice- when you ready to go lithium no make mistake of buying from naija vendors because must times na worst grade cells them dey buy from China, my own experience still the pepper me for body now.

The charging current on the BMS was set at 40A or so, well above what my solar array can deliver. I replaced the Powmr with Fangpusun and never saw 30V again.

Its affordable if the person is reasonable with his loads. And understands that he will need about 2yrs to break even.

The beauty of RE at some point goes beyond naira and kobo.
Imagine phcn strikes by 1am, and weather is hot, you are sweating like a pig, but either scared to go and turn on the gen by that time due to robbers or estate rules. But someone with a good inverter wudnt even be aware that anything is wrong.
What value in naira and kobo would you attach to such.

Trekking to work is cheaper than riding bike or keke to work..and cheaper than taking bus and cheaper than taking bolt or uber...and cheaper than driving your own car.
The real tragedy is if you can afford taxi, or use your own car, but u now choose to trek or take bus/keke so as to make some imaginary savings...
That savings u will still pay for it one way or another, body pains, spoilt footwear, possibility of being attacked and robbed while trekking etc

I'm also waiting for comprehensive explanation on this.
For lead acid (tubular) battery that I've been using with standalone morningstar Mppt CC..... In bulk stage charging, more amps are pump into the battery.
In absorption stage charging, very limited amps of about 20 to 25 are going into the battery irrespective of how large the pv capacity is.
In float stage, the amps are further reduce to about 5 while maintaining the float stage till charging source is removed or sun is gone.

I'll like to know how it works in lifepo4 battery because I may dedicate standalone CC to my lifepo4 battery bank.

Those using Standalone inverter with separate CC to charge they LiFePO4 battery, what happens when the battery is fully charged and you still have Load connected and solar is available.

1. Will the battery keeps charging just to supply power to the load?

2. Will the BMS shutdown inflow of power from the CC and thereby supplying the load directly from the battery?


I know that with hybrid you can set power to be used from solar alone, but I am considering how possible it will be to use the power from pv(when available) and not touch you battery when you have a floated battery in a standalone point of view.
