Immediate past Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon Dele Olugbemi has disclosed how he took the embattled former Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the State, Mr Temitope Aluko to Governor Ayodele Fayose on Sunday, saying; “It was a lie that Governor Fayose stage-managed the reconciliatory meeting and that himself, and Aluko prostrated for Fayose three times to beg the governor to forgive him (Aluko).” "Olugbemi, who said he was surprised that Aluko could address the press yesterday and deny that he willingly attended the Sunday night meeting with Governor Fayose and that he spoke to the press under duress after the meeting, disclosed that he, out of genuine concern for peace took Aluko to Eko Hotel, Lagos venue of the meeting.” He said; “The existing cordial relationship between Aluko and myself brought us to a discussion that eventually led to the last Sunday April 3, 2016 meeting. The former speaker said Aluko cannot deny that he re-affirmed that Governor Fayose remained his mentor, leader and father, that all his previous actions were devils work, and that he was under spiritual attack when he was saying all those things against the Governor. “Even when the Governor told him to sit down, he prostrated and I also prostrated along with him to beg the Governor for total forgiveness. “The Governor asked Aluko four questions: whether he knew the implication of his coming to him; why he behaved in that manner; how old he was; and whether he wanted the reconciliation to be total or partial and he (Aluko) replied that he knew the consequence of coming to him and that if he did not want total reconciliation, he would not come to see the Governor. “At this point, Aluko stood up again, saying my mentor, my leader, my egbon, I am your boy, you know, I am your boy. Whatever step I have taken before now, forgive me. Aluko and myself prostrated again.” Narrating how the meeting was arranged and held, Olugbemi said; “Before we agreed to meet in Lagos, I first suggested that the meeting should take place in Ekiti State Government House after the wedding of the niece of Governor Fayose but Aluko said he was not too comfortable with the arrangement because of fear that he might be arrested. “I re-assured him that the intention of the meeting was not to arrest, embarrass or humiliate him rather than to reconcile with Governor Fayose, whom he called his mentor. “In the morning Sunday, April 3, we agreed to meet in Lagos and I left Ekiti for Lagos. I got to Lagos at 12 noon; I lodged in a hotel at Magodo Area of Lagos. “At 1 pm, Aluko called me to confirm my hotel room number and I gave it to him. Aluko called me back and promised to be with me within 20 minutes. Fifteen minutes later, he called me again, and I told him that I was barbing my hair at a salon in Magodo. He asked me to come out of the salon and we met. He came in a blue Ford Jeep together with his woman. “I joined them in the car and we drove to my hotel room where Aluko stayed with me till 2 pm. He later instructed me to call the Governor to ascertain the time and place of the meeting. “I called the Governor, he did not pick the call. I later called Chief of Staff to the Governor. The Chief of Staff told me to call either the ADC or CSO to the Governor for further directive. The CSO told us that the meeting will take place at the Governor’s House residence in Magodo at 7.30pm. “I told Aluko but he was not too comfortable with venue of the meeting. He said if the meeting is about reconciliation, it should hold elsewhere and not the Governor’s residence. I pleaded with the Governor that the meeting should hold elsewhere as demanded by Tope Aluko, which the governor obliged. “All these I was doing because I wanted the crisis to be totally resolved. “Immediately we were told of a new venue for the meeting, Aluko left my hotel room for Victoria Island and promised to come back at 7pm. At 7.45pm, Aluko came back to meet me at my Magodo hotel. At 9pm, I called the Governor to inform him of Aluko’s arrival. The Governor asked if I was sure Aluko was with me and I said yes. “The Governor told to us to come to Eko Hotel and his friend will welcome us and that he would join us later. We drove in Aluko’s car, myself, a woman, a driver and my Personal Assistant. “We got to the Eko Hotel at 9.50pm. We were taken to the Hotel waiting room. Myself, Aluko, ADC, the Governor’s friend entered the same lift to the fourth floor of the hotel. “Inside the hotel room, we prayed and I opened the floor for discussion as agreed by Aluko. In my submission, I pleaded with the Governor to forgive and forget about the previous comments and allegations made by Aluko against him since he is father to us all. Aluko interjected and said that I should allow him to lead the talk. “The Governor told him to stop fooling himself at 50 and since he allowed himself to be used by the APC at 50, what legacy will he leave for his children? The Governor told him that there is going to be reactions to this meeting by the APC and therefore advised Aluko switch-off his phones and rest for at least for two weeks to avoid counter allegations. The Governor said that the APC will fire back at Aluko because of the money he had received from the APC to malign him. “Aluko promised the Governor to dismantle all the structure he had put in place to attack the Governor. The Governor said he had forgiven him totally and that he should go and sin no more. “The governor told Aluko that he would call soon and that he would need to study him (Aluko) very well within two weeks because he could go out of the meeting and say something different. “The Governor also said it was better to let the press know that he had reconciled with Aluko to which he initially disagreed and later agreed to meet the press with the Governor, and myself, which we did and the video recording is everywhere for the public to see. “On Tuesday April 5, 2016, Aluko called me, sent a text message to me that things were falling apart as the party, and aide of the governor were attacking him. That he would renege on his promise. I advised him not to take any negative action or talk to the press if he wanted his already battered image to be rebuilt. Unfortunately, he did not listen to my advice and having come to deny what he willingly took part in, I have no option than to let the public know the true story.” Rt. Hon. Dele Olugbemi, Former Speaker, Ekiti State House of Assembly. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/04/aluko-and-i-prostrated-three-times-to.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Vietnamese police have arrested three Nigerians and eight locals belonging to two different gangs for allegedly conning people out of more than US$1.3 million. The gangs tricked the victims by informing them they had won grand prizes or gift packages from abroad but had to pay some money as fees for collecting the prize or bribing police and customs officers since the gifts were of big value. They used bank accounts created with stolen or fake ID cards to collect the money. Ho Chi Minh City police arrested Michael IkeChukwu Leonard, 44, Tuesday with three Vietnamese accomplices for cheating more than 100 victims around the country out of more than VND20 billion ($900,000) over more than a year. Earlier this month they had arrested Ihugba Augustine Chinonso, 30, Onu Chinonso Peter, 31, and five Vietnamese for tricking many victims into paying VND10 billion since late last year. One victim from the central city of Da Nang said she had lost more than VND2.1 billion. She had been promised a gift package that contained more than a million dollars from a family friend overseas. A man from Hanoi, who works for a domestic airline, borrowed money to pay nearly VND3.5 billion to receive a prize worth $1 million from a UK company. He said he got a lot of emails, all in English, and he was trusting because it had all “seemed very professional.” The members of the latter gang said they had received instructions from two other foreign men, who are still at large. http://m.thanhniennews.com/society/3-nigerians-arrested-as-2-gangs-con-13-mil-in-vietnam-60930.html

Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna state told newsmen on Tuesday, March 29, 2016, that he never slapped his Deputy Governor, Barnabas Bala. There were media reports alleging that the Governor slapped his deputy, and he quickly retaliated. El-Rufai said he and Bala have been friends since their days in Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. The Kaduna Governor also said since his friendship with his deputy started in 1976, they have never had cause to hit each other. El-Rufai dismissed the report, calling it a rumour, He also said those who fabricated the story were not intelligent enough. He said “I have known Bala Bantex since 1976, I never had an argument with him, I respect his opinions, and each time I travelled out of the country, I make him an Acting governor, he signs documents on my behalf. “We chair executive council meetings together, we operate like partners, and now people want to create enmity between us. I am of age, I can’t descend so low. This rumour is completely false, it is created to cause division.” El-Rufai also said “We never discussed retrenchment of workers in the state as claimed by the rumour mongers. “I have never slapped anyone in my life. I have never argued with Bala, I don’t slap people, I fight people with mouth.” The Governor has come under serious criticisms over his decision to pass a religious censorship bill that requires preachers to get a license, amongst many other provisions. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/i-didnt-slap-my-deputy-governor-el-rufai.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers of England shot –stopper Carl Ikeme has been ruled out of Tuesday’s 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt in Alexandria. Ikeme is feeling unwell and the coaches have decided not to risk him in goal on Tuesday during the all -important encounter against the Pharaohs. Super Eagles team doctor Ibrahim Gyaran said that the goalkeeper has stomach upset which has kept him out of training since Friday’s game in Kaduna. “After the game last Friday, Carl has been struggling with some stomach upset and it has not allowed him train with the rest of the squad,” Gyaran disclosed. “He is stable but needs a lot of rest to be back in 100% shape for the kind of high profile game that we have on Tuesday. Considering the amount of travel involved as well, it is best we give him a break,” he added. Reacting, Head Coach Samson Siasia has allayed fears that the absence of the goalkeeper will hamper the team’s chances of victory on Tuesday. “We will surely miss Carl but the good thing with our team is that we have capable replacements in every department. Daniel Akpeyi and Ikechukwu Ezenwa are still here and any one of these two will help us get the job done in Alexandria,” Siasia concluded. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/carl-ikeme-ruled-out-of-tuesday-clash.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
After several years of gangsters’ siege in Mushin, Lagos State Governor, Akinwumi Ambode, has restored peace to the beleaguered community, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain, Mr Dawodu Olatunji, said on Sunday. “For two months now, peace has returned to Mushin. Thanks to our governor, who picked up the gang leaders and their boys disappeared. “Mushin is now safe, no longer a hotbed of criminality. The hoodlums are killing themselves and not hoodlums versus the people,” he said. Olatunji, a Mushin chairmanship aspirant for the July council polls, said:“We are grateful to the governor for his intervention; the criminals are not from Mushin, but from other parts of the state. “I was born and bred in Mushin and like others, we grew up to imbibe some virtues to become responsible citizens. Not everybody in Mushin is a criminal.” He noted that gangsterism, not robberies had reigned in the area, saying “ the supremacy fight between the gangs had always unleashed a reign of terror on Mushin.” Olatunji, an Area Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, also acknowledged the efforts of an ethnic militia — Odu’a Peoples Congress (OPC) in helping to rout armed robberies several years ago in the area. He, however, blamed politicians for allegedly raising armed gangs for elections and advised youths to reject guns and banditry and go for empowerment and jobs. The Business Administration graduate and erstwhile South-West spokesman of Nigerian students, said:“Youth empowerment is a must for local and state governments because the youths reside in their council areas and states. “Cottage industries as well as small and medium enterprises to produce school uniforms, shoes and exercise books etc should be established for the youths after their training.” http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/governor-ambode-settles-mushin-gang-wars.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |
The Federal Government has expressed some doubts over the suicide bomber arrested in Cameroon who claimed to be one of the 219 missing Chibok schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram two years ago. In a statement today, Malam Garba Shehu, senior special assistant on media to President Buhari, said fresh information from Cameroon indicated that the two arrested bombers are about 10 years old, which rule either of the two as a possible Chibok schoolgirl. The lost girls were teenagers when they were taken away by Boko Haram gunmen on 14 April, 2014 as they came to school to prepare for the West African School Certificate examinations. “It has been confirmed that one of two girls is claiming to be among the girls stolen from Chibok on April 14, last year, although doubts have creeped into the claim following new information from Cameroon that the two girls are aged about 10 years,’’ Garba stated. According to the statement, one of the two is also believed to be heavily drugged and therefore not in full control of her senses. Nevertheless, the Federal Government is to send some members of the Chibok community to Cameroon, to verify the identity of the two girls. Garba said the Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Aisha Alhassan and Nigerian high commissioner in Cameroon had swung into action and were receiving a lot of cooperation from the Cameroonian authorities. Nigeria’s High Commissioner to Cameroon, Amb. Hadiza Mustapha, had confirmed that the arrested girls might be brought to the Cameroonian capital, Yaounde, on Monday, at which point the High Commission would seek permission to meet with them. The statement said that the Murtala Mohammed Foundation had offered to cooperate with federal government in sponsoring two parents from Chibok, who had been selected to embark on the trip to Cameroon. “The two are Yakubu Nkeki, Chairman of the Parents of the Abducted Girls from Chibok association, and Yana Galang, the group’s women leader. “The Nigerian High Commission will receive the two and will facilitate their access to the two girls once permission to meet and verify their identity is obtained from the Cameroonian authorities,’’ the statement added. About 270 Chibok schoolgirls were reported to have been abducted by members of the Boko Haram terror sect at the Chibok Government Secondary School in Borno about two years ago. About 51 of the affected schoolgirls escaped from their abductors, who were transporting them to unknown destinations. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/arrested-bomber-may-not-be-chibok.html cc: lalasticlala mynd44 |

www.nairaland.com/attachments/2056217_apc_jpegac400acfc063c990eecab1effb6ce5fc – Indications have emerged that the All Progressives Congress (APC) has not paid some of its outstanding campaign expenses – More than 70 outdoor advertising companies contracted to handle the Ambode/Buhari campaign billboards in Lagos are still waiting to get paid – Advertising practitioners reveal that they are enduring a choking debt burden NAIJ.com has been told that the companies that ensured that President Muhammadu Buhari and Governor Akinwunmi Ambode billboards took over 95% of the available billboards in Lagos have not been paid up to 5% of their payments for the job. The outdoor advertisers lamented that they were invited by the former Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) managing director, George Noah during the election campaigns to do the jobs but only one or two who insisted on being paid were paid partially, with more than 70 companies remaining in limbo. “The new MD, Mr. Mobolaji Sanusi has refused to honour the agreement between us and his predecessor, yet his men have started clamping down on our members since around October last year, shutting down our billboards for non-payment of their own dues. “He has also sent new bills for the year while the billboards are not working since he shut them down but we have explained that the APC billboard monies have not been paid to us by the former MD, George Noah who he claimed has been paid by the All Progressives Congress, Lagos,” a part of their statement read. When pressed on why they have not met with Noah over the matter, a member of tone of the companies said: “Our association has met with him but he is insisting that the APC is yet to pay him, all he keeps saying is that he is still talking to his principal but all we are asking for is payment for jobs we did.” On why they have kept quiet about it till now, another interviewed member representing one of the affected companies said: “We hesitated from coming out till now because we don’t want to embarrass the government or the APC but we were advised by the current LASAA MD, to go after George Noah and the company he used to issue the media order, ‘Media Worth’. Meanwhile, media reports earlier today suggested that President Buhari may deactivate some of his social media accounts. The president’s media aide on a new media Tolu Ogunlesi said an audit had started with a view to close down the redundant ones. https://www.naij.com/775547-2015-elections-apc-yet-to-pay-for-buhari-campaign-billboards.html |

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will conduct another examination for candidates who missed theirs due to the relocation of centres. The new development however, does not affect candidates who missed the exams deliberately, or failed. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, the Registrar of the board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde revealed that about 59,000 candidates were relocated in 15 states due to problems in some of the centres, while stating that candidates who suffered system failure during the examination can also rewrite the exam if the board ascertains that their complaints are legitimate. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/jamb-important-notice-for-candidates.html cc: lalasticlala |
Senate President Bukola Saraki is currently facing trial at the Code of Conduct Tribunal. While a lot of Nigerians do not expect the Senate President to win, there's a slight chance that he may win. Saraki's victory at the tribunal is bound to disrupt a lot of things in the Nigerian Political sphere. Some things that may happen if Saraki wins are: 1. The National Assembly will be stronger, more powerful and beyond the grasp of the president. 2. President Muhammadu Buhari's anti-corruption war will be questioned. 3. Saraki will try to be President in 2019 4. President Buhari will have to constantly watch his back as any slight misstep could lead to impeachment. http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/4-things-that-will-happen-if-sarakis.html cc: lalasticlala |

Governor Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun state has intervened in the public quarrel between the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona and Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo. Both paramount rulers were engaged in a dispute over ranking and supremacy in Yorubaland and Western Nigeria. The Alake called the Awujale out to fight after he told visiting Ooni of Ife that he was the fourth ranked monarch in Western Nigeria, after the Ooni, the Alafin and the Oba of Benin. He ranked Awujale fifth. Awujale, seized the inaugural lecture for a professorial chair at Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, to state facts, in his own way. He said, to the anger of Alake and his chiefs, that the Alake’s dominion does not extend beyond Ake quarters in Abeokuta. Yes, we are here, our fathers are here to see me. Of course, we deliberated on so many things. I’m sure you want to say what is happening. “Indeed, nothing is happening. They came here to see the possibility of how to make sure we have peace in the state, among so many other things that we did. “Don’t forget that this would be the first time I would have the opportunity – I’ve shown my appreciation before for the 40th anniversary, so, it is an opportunity for me to still show that. Something to cheer here: Oba Gbadebo smiles https://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Abeokuta-3.jpg “So, if you think that you want to ask that what is the outcome, outcome of what?. We have come here to deliberate and as always, it’s always a pleasure for me to have our fathers around here. “There is nothing like ranking of Oba, we know ourselves. Our fathers, they have their ways, even, before the advent of all these colonials and what have you. “We have ways of how we live in harmony and I think we will continue to do that. Don’t forget, and I’m saying this again with all due humility and sense of responsibility, that in the context of we Yorubas, we know our pre-eminent status. The Awujale and Paramount ruler of Ijebuland,Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona,Ogbagba II declined to speak with newsmen as he just said, “I want to say hello to you….there is no problem gentlemen, please. Thank you very much”. In his own reaction about the meeting, the Alake and paramount ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo, Okukenu IV spoke about his efforts to resolve the dispute between the striking workers and Ogun state government. “I have come to see my governor for many things, including the strike action of the workers and I’m very sure they would go back to work very soon by the grace of God”, the monarch assured. https://thenewsnigeria.com.ng/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/Abeokuta.jpg http://www.metronaija.com/2016/03/photos-governor-amosun-reconciles.html |
