The Abuja Division of the Federal High Court has declined to restrain the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, from using the Smart Card Reader Machines for the presidential election holding tomorrow. In a ruling Friday afternoon, Justice Ademola Adeniyi refused to issue an interim order of injunction stopping INEC from employing the technology for the presidential poll. The court however summoned both the electoral body and the Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN, to appear before the court on April 24 to address it on the legality or otherwise of the use of the card readers for a general election. Meanwhile, even though the court rejected the application which was filed by a Senatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ogun state, Mr. Walihu Taiwo, it however stressed that if it eventually ascertains that the use of the card readers were illegal and unconstitutional, it will not hesitate to annul the outcome of the general election. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/03/breaking-news-court-aborts-last-minute-move-to-stop-%E2%80%8Eelection/?utm_source=&utm_medium=twitter http://www.metronaija.com/2015/03/breaking-news-court-aborts-last-minute.html |
The Publicity Secretary, All Progressives Congress, Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Samuel Udobong, has said the party does not have confidence in the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr. Austin Okijie. Udobong, who spoke in Uyo on Friday, alleged that the REC had an “unethical relationship” with the state governor, Mr. Godswill Akpabio, and the standard bearer of the ruling party, the Peoples Democratic Party, in the state, Mr. Udom Emmanuel. Udobong said,”We don’t have confidence in this REC because of his recent activities with Akpabio. “We also hear that they have printed result sheets that are now being stored in the Government House and he can only use them with the cooperation of the REC. “We want the governor to know that every plan he has with Akpabio has been revealed and he should be prepared to conduct a free and fair election.” He, however, said the party had created situation rooms in the state, where every abnormality or case of misconduct should be reported and addressed to. “The PDP is planning to harass voters and intimate observers from other parties and we are calling on security agencies assigned to election duties to do their job to prevent electoral violence,” he said. Meanwhile security personnel, including members of the Department of State Service, were seen patrolling the Brooks Street, Obi-Imoh and Oron areas in the state. Residents have expressed fears that the menacing presence of the security operatives could create tension and scare voters. But the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Gabriel Achong, has assured residents that voters would not be molested in the state. He said, “They are patrolling the streets to ensure that residents are safe. If we don’t put the police on the streets, they will be complaining that we have left them without security “The police are supposed to be everywhere. We are working with the Navy, that will be checking the waterways and securing riverside areas. Every man desires a woman that supports him and who can hangout with him and his friends. You don’t want to be that girlfriend that is never given attention or confused on how to get him crazy about you again. The secret of being a good girlfriend is quite simple.Make your man feel special and cared for, and he will love you for it. Here are 10 ways to become to the perfect girlfriend: 10 Ways To Be A Perfect Girlfriend 1. Show him love: Love him like he is the only guy in the world. Make him feel special and happy. Let him know and feel that he’s the king of your heart and no one can replace him. He likes the fact that you’re crazy about him so show him by giving him those tender kisses, hugs, smooches, and say “I love you” when there’s a chance. 2. Don’t be too possessive: It’s cute to get jealous at times and make him feel like you don’t want to loose him to anyone but when you start checking his messages and contact list, that can be a big turn off. Your man does not need to feel like he is being monitored. Have some trust him and let him feel that he has got a confident woman. 3. Stroke his ego: Feed his ego from time to time. Men tend to have insecurity issues. Don’t let him get an ego boost by chasing other women around, a man needs to feel attractive and desired too. Give him a compliment. Tell him how much you love something about him, or how hot he is to you. A compliment makes everyone feel nice, so give him that pleasure every time. 4. Be a sex goddess: A girlfriend isn’t “perfect” if she doesn’t perform great in bed. You should not just be good in bed you must be better than all of his ex-girlfriends combined. Great sex brings you closer, and keeps you together for years, and years, even if other spheres of your relationship aren’t perfect. Find out what makes your guy go crazy, and then fulfill all of his fantasies. Yes all of his fantasies, because that’s what a perfect girlfriend does. 10 Ways To Be A Perfect Girlfriend 5. Cook for him: The path to a man’s heart is through his stomach, so cook him nice meals. Nobody expects you to live in the kitchen. It works, even if you make him a simple meal that doesn’t taste that good. It’s the effort that counts, not the taste. 6. Be loyal to him: Let him know that you are always going to be there for him through thick and thin not just by saying it but your actions should correspond. Ask him about his family especially the brother or sister that he is really attached to. Talk about work and what business venture he plans to dive into. Be the caring girlfriend that wants to know if he has had lunch, dinner, how healthy he is eating. You can also put in some efforts by cooking for him or preparing something special and bringing it to him. 7. Give him space: Yes ladies, give your man some space! You don’t want him feeling all chocked up around you. Let him have some time to hang out with his friends and do some exciting thing except he invites you, best time to hang out with your friends too. Don’t be a clinch or the girlfriend that is there 24/7. Let him miss you a little and think about you then give you a call. 8. Never compare him to your ex’s: He might not be hottest or the richest guy but he’s willing to do everything in his power to please you and make you happy. So acknowledge the fact that he’s putting in effort and make him feel appreciated. Don’t complain when your request isn’t forthcoming or make spiteful comments about him not measuring up to your ex. This hurt’s his pride so instead just be supportive and give him the energy he requires emotionally. http://www.metroparrot.net/2015/03/10-ways-to-be-perfect-girlfriend.html |
BARELY 48 hours to the presidential and National Assembly elections, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday, commenced distribution of sensitive materials to locations across the country. Chairman of the commission, Professor Attahiru Jega, disclosed this while unveiling the Nigeria Civil Society Situation Room on Election Day, in Abuja. Situation Room is a coalition of over 60 civil society organisation (CSOs) in the country. He, however, disclosed that from the 2019 general election, the commission would move for the electronic transmission of results. According to Jega, “for long, all our non-sensitive electoral materials had been taken to the local government offices. Commencing from today (Wednesday), the sensitive materials will be retrieved from the vault of the Central Bank, taken to our state offices, accompanied by agents of political parties “From later this evening to tomorrow (Thursday) morning, this will be distributed to the various local governments in the states and they will also be accompanied from the state to the local governments by party agents. “We expect that from tomorrow (Thursday) evening until around Friday afternoon, all the materials taken to the local governments will also be distributed to the ward levels. “At each ward level, we have established what we call registration area centre and we have equipped it reasonably to ensure that both our staff and security agencies spend the few hours of the night there in readiness to deploy very early in the morning to the various polling units in each of those wards.” The INEC chairman also disclosed that party agents could accompany INEC officials from the polling units to the collation centres, to avoid a repeat of the 2011 elections, where results declared at collation centres were at variance with those at polling units. He assured that beyond the 2015 general election, INEC would continue to engage the civil society organisations and continue to build on mutually beneficial relationship in future elections. Jega, who pointed out that the same methodology used in 2011 would also be adopted in announcing the results this year, however, disclosed that electronic transmission of results was possible in the 2019 polls. While stressing that the commission had done everything possible to ensure that the polls were successful, Jega pointed out that the commission would improve the process of collation of result at this year’s exercise. Earlier, the Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, had said the police were fully prepared for the polls, just as the spokesman of Situation Room, Clement Nwankwo, disclosed that beyond the partisan divisions and outcomes of the electoral contests, the future of Nigeria wass the main issue at stake. Speaking in Lagos, the state Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Mr Akin Orebiyi, at a stakeholders’ meeting held in Lagos, on Wednesday, said the commission had carefully mapped out ways on how to checkmate fraudulent acts by ensuring that all ballot papers were customised for each state with customised special numbers and codes. All these, he said, had been designed to make elections fraud extremely difficult, especially in comparison to previous elections. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/03/inec-commences-distribution-of.html |

Sexually transmitted diseases (STD), sometimes called sexually transmitted infection (STI) or venereal disease (VD) are infections that are commonly spread by sex, especially vaginal intercourse, anal sex and MouthAction. 6 Things You Should Know About Sexually Transmitted Diseases This does not mean necessarily mean that sex is the only way that STDs can be transmitted it’s important to learn what you can do to protect yourself. Symptoms and signs of disease include, penile discharge, ulcers on or around the genitals, pelvic pain and vaginal discharge. STDs are serious health issues and if left untreated, it can cause permanent damage, such as infertility and even death. Advertisement Not all infections in the genitals are caused by STDs. Sometimes people get symptoms that seem very close to that of STDs, even though they’ve never had sex. For ladies, a yeast infection can easily be confused with an STD. Men may worry about bumps on the penis that turn out to be pimples or irritated hair follicles. Here are 6 important things you should know about STDs: 1. STDs is not only spread sexual intercourse. Some STDs, like herpes or genital warts, are spread through skin-to-skin contact with an infected area or sore. 2. The infection can also spread through oral or anal sex, because the viruses or bacteria that cause STDs can enter the body through tiny cuts or tears in the mouth and anus, as well as the genitals. 3. It spreads easily because you can’t tell whether someone has it or not. Some people with STDs don’t even know that they have them. These people are in danger of passing an infection on to their sex partners without even realizing it. 4. Sexual activity at a young age increases ones chances of becoming infected with an STD. 5. People who have sexual contact with multiple partners without protection are more at risk than those who stay with the same partner. 6. Latex condoms are the only form of birth control that reduce your risk of getting an STD, and must be used every time. As with many other diseases, prevention is the best. It is much easier to prevent STDs than to treat them. The only way to completely prevent STDs is to abstain from all types of sexual contact. People who are sexually active or are planning to should get regular gynecological or male genital examinations. The reason is that regular exams give doctors more opportunities to check for STDs while they are in their earliest, most treatable stage. http://www.metroparrot.net/2015/03/6-things-you-should-know-about-sexually.html |
An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court on Thursday ordered the detention of one Michael Oyejide, 24, in the Ibara prison for allegedly raping to death his 18-year-old girlfriend. The Magistrate, Mr Martins Akinyemi, ordered that the accused be remanded in the prison pending legal advice from the state Director of Public Prosecution (DPP). Oyejide, who resides at Ijeja, in Abeokuta, is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, rape and murder. However, his plea was not taken by the court, and Akinyemi, thereafter, adjourned the case till June 5 for mention. Earlier, the Prosecutor, Cpl. Moshood Hammed, told the court that the accused and one other at large, committed the offence on Jan. 8 at about 11:41p.m. at Ijeja in Abeokuta. Hammed said that the accused and his accomplice had raped the girl after a party to celebrate his birthday. “At about 8.00p.m., Oyejide, aka MI, celebrated his birthday at Adigbe and some ladies were invited. “Later in the night, the accused and one other got the victim, who is also a friend drunk. “The accused and his friend took the victim to his house at Ijeja and they raped her to death,” he said. The prosecutor said that the accused thereafter pretended to be sympathisers and rushed their victim to the hospital where she was confirmed dead. “The management of the hospital reported the case to the police, which led to Oyejide’s arrest,” Hammed said. The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Sections 516, 357 and 358 of the Criminal Law of Ogun State, 2006. Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, national chairman of of the All Progressives Congress, APC over the weekend said that there will be no election in Nigeria if Prof Jega Attahiru, Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC ; LEADERSHIP reports. Speaking in Abuja, Oyegun said, ''I don’t think they can remove him. We have only three weeks, although President Goodluck Jonathan, keeps saying he has no plan to sack him, that is different from removing him. But we have only three weeks unless they don’t want an election''. ''It’s simple! We had one postponement; we don’t want a second one. In the middle, in fact, almost at the terminal end of a journey, you don’t change the captain. You don’t know who the new captain would be, you don’t know how conversant that new captain would be, and he may as well just request for another three months to familiarize himself with his job and the rest of it; that is unacceptable''. ''Two, though that point hasn’t been flogged well enough, is that Jega was not appointed alone. So, if Jega has to proceed on terminal leave, why are the others not proceeding on terminal leave? In which case, we will have no INEC to conduct the elections. So, unless Jega’s terminal leave is punitive, in which case you have to tell the nation, but he has done no wrong. He is not a civil servant and he has a fixed constitutional term, full stop''. ''Even if Jega himself was willing and applied to go on leave, the whole nation should beg him not to go until such a delicate assignment on which he is engaged is complete.I am not going to speculate, but we are going to win the election with a landslide because I am yet to walk the streets and see somebody who doesn’t want change, quite frankly. The entire population has taken ownership of that word and the process, and they are the ones now driving it''. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/03/no-jegano-elections-apc.html |
The All Progressives Congress has condemned the “dastardly” bombings that left many dead and injured several others in Maiduguri on Saturday and Sunday, warning that those behind the continued killing and maiming of innocent people will not go unpunished. In a statement in Lagos on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party condoled with the families of those killed as well as the government and people of Borno State. It prayed that God would grant repose to the souls of the innocent citizens who were sent to their early graves, while wishing those who were injured a speedy recovery. ADVERTISEMENT ”As we have said many times, nothing in the world justifies the killing of innocent men, women and children, and the cowards, who have continued to kill and maim must realise that they will not escape justice, no matter how long it takes,” APC said. The party called for vigilance among the people of the state and indeed the entire North-East against the background of the stepped-up fight against the terrorists http://www.metronaija.com/2015/03/apc-condemns-maiduguri-bombings.html |

Prof. Yemi Osinbajo tells Foursquare Students The 2015 edition of the Annual Global Students Congress organized by the Students Ministry arm of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria (the National Fellowship of Foursquare Students, NaFFS) themed RIGHTEOUSNESS, which kicked off on Tuesday March 3rd, 2015 played host to Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, a Senior Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God and the Vice Presidential Candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday 4th of March 2015. Prof Osinbajo, who spoke on the subject: Righteousness: Taking the Lead (Prov 14:34) emphasized the importance of integrity, trustworthiness, respect for obligation, and reliability amongst others. He highlighted the biblical affirmation of righteousness as exalting a nation. He equally stated that despite the fact that there is palpable corruption and unrighteousness all around us, the whole world is looking for men and women of integrity to do business with and commit very serious business of leadership into their hands. He charged the youths to take trustworthiness and integrity seriously in their lives. God, he says, holds the Christians responsible for the festering unrighteousness and corruption in the society because they are supposed to be the light of the world and salt of the earth, with the responsibility of making disciples of others. Christians are supposed to show godly and righteous examples for others to follow in all facets of life. Giving insights on the Protestant Reformation in Europe and Asia in the 18th Century, which led to economic transformation of their continents, as a case study, he emphasized that Christians are supposed to truly portray the real and true essence of Christianity, which is righteousness. He admonished the participants to pattern their lives after God in righteousness. What a nation like ours needs to develop and be among the leading nations of the world are leaders who will lead with righteousness and integrity. It does not matter the religion affiliation, any nation where integrity, respect for the natural principles of justice and concern for the welfare of the less privilege are taking seriously, will develop and grow into its full potentials. Students should take the issues of righteousness very seriously in their various involvements in life because it pays. Righteousness gives a man a high reputation in the society. When the chips are down, a man with integrity wins with people. Prof. Yemi Osinbajo was given the 2015 Legacy Awards by the Students’ Body in recognition of his immense contribution to the growth, development of students and youths in Nigeria and for standing tall as a Model of Righteousness in Public Service. The NaFFS body thereafter prayed for, and wished the erudite scholar, legal luminary per excellence and Senior Advocate of Nigeria outstanding success in his future public service endeavours. http://www.metronaija.com/2015/03/photos-prof-osinbajo-meets-national.html
