A 34-year-old man, who poses as a Muslim cleric to defraud gullible Nigerians has been arrested by operatives of the Special Fraud Unit, SFU, Ikoyi, Lagos, for allegedly defrauding one of his victims of N8 million.

The suspect, identified as Isiaka Adeleke, popularly known as Alfa, was said to have collected the sum from a childhood friend, who came for prayers for the expansion of his business.

The complainant, who reportedly took the N8 million loan to expand his dwindling business, told operatives that he confided in Adeleke that he intended to use the money to buy a truck for his business.

However, in the process, Yusuf was said to have demanded for the money to enable him go into the spiritual realm to tackle spiritual forces hindering the success of his friend’s business.

However, the victim returned a week later as instructed, only to discover that Yusuf had changed residence.

Spokesman for the Unit, Ngozi Isintume-Agu, said that Yusuf’s arrest was effected in Ilorin, KwaraState, following a petition by the complainant.

She said: “The complainant stated that he was defrauded in March and effort to reach Yusuf had been abortive as his phones were all switched off.

“The complainant further stated that the Alfa, under the pretense of selling a LEXUS 300 Car imported from USA to him, obtained additional N1.5 million and later registered the said vehicle in his name. He alleged that the total money collected from him by the suspect was N9.5 million.”

‘How I spent the money’

Adeleke, who was paraded weekend, admitted to have collected the sum and pleaded to be given time to refund the money.

Asked what he used the money for, he said: “I used part of it to buy two cars, a Toyota Camry and a Mercedez Benz and also completed my building project in Ilorin, while I shared the balance among my fellow Alfas in Ila-Orangun, OsunState.

“I tricked him into believing that I can double the money. I instructed him to put the money inside a box in my room and leave it for seven days, while he takes the key with him.

“However, unknown to him, I had a spare key which I later used to unlock the box and absconded. All I beg for is to be given time to pay back the money.”

Isintume-Agu advised members of the public to be wary of the likes of Yusuf when seeking spiritual help from so-called religious clerics, “as most of them are wolves in sheep’s clothing.”

Christianity EtcPastor Adeboye, Pastor Oyakhilomen At Loggerheads Over A Parcel Of Land by olokfor(op): 3:25pm On Sep 19, 2013
The Bible that states that, ‘in the end of the world, so many people will forsake the love of the father and purse material things’ is actually right as the word is now coming to fruition.

It was recently gathered by us that, the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and the Christ Embassy are currently locked in a dispute over a parcel of land located along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, and the two leaders of the churches, Pastor Enoch Adeboye and Pastor Chris Oyakhilome are stoking the crisis by their actions and inactions.

According to findings, the two churches claim ownership of the land, spread across Oloke, Asese, Maba and Gideon Villages in Ogun State and have been unleashing torrent of criticism and employing mercenaries to tackle each other.

It is so amazing that the men of God who so much believes in the teaching of Christ that ‘nothing we brought to the world and nothing shall we go with’ engaged in such a dirty fight over a mere parcel of land. Sources around the area told us that, in March, this year; there was a big fight between mercenaries of the two churches on the controversial land where some lost their lives.

We learnt that the Christ Embassy’s thugs were led by one Lukman Jimoh popularly known as Ogo Oluwa and they drove to the place in a Volvo Car and Toyota Hiace Bus.

We also gathered that recently RCCG petitioned the Inspector General of Police, and asked him to intervene in the case of trespass on the church land and the malicious damaged to the church property.

In the petition, a copy made available to an online magazine called orijoreporter, while recounting how they came about the property, RCCG said that despite the fact that the land falls under the government acquisition area, the church had in June 1999 paid ratification fees for the land to the late Alhaji Tajudeen Ogoluwa (Lukman’s father) who gave the church a Deed of Surrender signed by him and witnessed by one Waidi Ogunsesan.

The church said that it was also given allocation of the land for 99 years by the Ogun State Government in a letter signed by the Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Surveyor Gbenga Ogunnoike.

RCCG also alleged that Ogun State Government issued a Certificate of Occupancy with the number 025748, dated November 7, 2006 and signed by the governor to the church.

The IG it was gathered, directed the Eleweran Police Headquarter in Ogun State to resolve the matter since the two supposed men of God, Pastor Adeboye and Pastor Oyakhilome could not come to an unanimous accord.

Christianity EtcAdventist Church Appeals To FG To Stop Conducting Elections On Saturday by olokfor(op): 7:44am On Sep 08, 2013
Elders of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nigeria has appealed to the federal government to reconsider their appeal of changing the nation’s election day from Saturdays to any of the working days.

The Church stakeholders claimed that letters have been sent to the appropriate government quarters on the need to fix elections for any other day except Saturday.

They noted that their demands were not only limited to just Saturday, but include other two days (Sunday and Friday) which are normally used by Christians and Muslims as their worshiping days.

The newly re-elected President of the Western Union of Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Nigeria, Pastor Oyeleke Owolabi, who spoke with reporters on behalf of the elders at a press conference in Akure, the Ondo state capital, suggested that it would be proper for the government to choose any working day for elections.

He noted that other countries in the world do not normally conduct elections on Saturday, stressing that such was to allow religious Liberty.

Owolabi added that government should respect religious day, saying Nigerian Constitution permits freedom of religion.

His words, “We are not speaking with a selfish mind, but what we are clamouring for is that elections should not be conducted on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays because these days are important worship days for Christians.

“We have our brothers and sisters in other religion who have their own worship day on Fridays and events like elections and other crucial activities are not normally fix for such day.

MEET THE BEST EVENT PLANNER IN TOWN

“One of the objectives is to make most Nigerians graduates employable through training and mentoring.”

He confirmed the view of the Project Director of GIS, Mr. Peter Parka, that 40million Nigerians required employment.

Parka had said, “National Bureau of Statistics in 2011 indicated that 23.9per cent of Nigerians were unemployed. This means that about 40million Nigerians need employment.

“Government is concerned about this high unemployment rate and is doing everything possible to reverse it. The challenge of graduate unemployment is the inability to absorb the nearly 300,000 graduates churned out by our tertiary institutions each year.”

PoliticsJonathan, Obama Among First Speakers At 68th UN General Assembly by olokfor(op): 1:06pm On Aug 28, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan was listed among the first four speakers at the forth-coming UN General Assembly 68th session general debate scheduled for Sept. 24 to 28 in New York.

The UN Correspondent of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Jonathan would speak along Presidents Dilma Rousseff of Brazil, Barack Obama of U.S. and Abdullah Gul of Turkey.

Brazil had always been the traditional first speaker during UN General Assembly debate sessions. This is the very first time in the history of the UN General Assembly session that Nigeria would be the fourth country to address the assembly.

In the past, Nigeria had addressed the UN session either in the afternoon or evening. In 2012, during the 67th session when the president addressed the assembly in the evening as the 29th speaker, the hall was virtually empty.

The president is also expected to have a lunch meeting with Nigerian professionals with `solid achievements’ in U.S. on Sept. 22 in New York. According to the Chairman of Nigerians in Diaspora in America (NIDOA), Mr Ganiyu Dada, the lunch meeting is aimed at discussing the solutions to the national development of Nigeria.

Dada added that the professionals should be willing to participate in the national development of Nigeria. He noted that NIDOA had been asked to submit about 500 names of `super Nigerian professionals’ with solid achievements in U.S. from where about 250 Nigerian Professionals would be chosen.

“They are expected to have Lunch Meeting with President Jonathan on Sunday Sept. 22 in New York from 1p.m. to 4p.m. This list will be submitted next week to the Nigerian Embassy which has the final say on who is invited to have lunch with the president.

“NIDOA is only to compile the list from the 50 States of USA including the Nigerian Professionals that are not yet members of NIDOA.

“You can attend lunch with the President without being a member of NIDOA, but there are a lot of benefits to join NIDOA,’’ Dada said. (NAN)

PoliticsNERC Promises Improved Power Supply by olokfor(op): 9:39am On Aug 25, 2013
The chairman of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi, has assured Nigerians that the challenges faced by Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, will soon be a thing of the past, as his commission had given licenses to companies that understand the major challenge facing Nigeria in the sector to generate power.
He also spoke of plans to increase power supply in the country to 9,000 megawatts, but he noted that the plans would still not beenough for a country as large as Nigeria.

Speaking during a joint workshop organised by Journalists for Democratic Rights (JODER) and the Nigerian Human Rights Community (NHCR) in Lagos at the weekend, Dr. Sam Amadi, the Chairman of NERC, said the support of Nigerians and civil society organisations was crucial to helping the sector .

While emphasising on other issues concerning the power sector, he urged the human rights society to getorganised and set up a civil society group that would be in a position to represent the communities for public hearing, which should either be funded by the government or organisations.

“This group should create a coalition that would be called ‘consumer advocate’ believing it would affect thelives of the people. Nigerians should come together and partner with NERC through the human right groups in the country to handle the situation and look for a way forward,” he added.

He said the plan was to have 6,000 megawatts in 2012 at N24 per unit cost, adding that everybody was not supposed to pay the same amount because of the state of the very poor people in the society who consume very little energy.

“No one will want to invest on Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) unless they know how they can get their money back…South Africa for instance, produces 40,000 megawattswith 40 workers while Nigeria produces 4,000 with 40 workers also, which is not rational and people are the ones loosing, South Africa has about 42,000 while India is about to add another 100,000,” he said.

Amadi stressed that the N24 cost was changed to N4 per unit and was madepossible through subsidy, explaining that low tension and maximum demand have no subsidy because theconnection is directly from the transformer.

Also reacting to the increased service charge by PHCN from N500 to N750, he stated that what should bother Nigerians is effectiveness of the service not the charges.

His words: “Although the service charge ordinarily looks much, it is nothing compared to the N180,000 compulsory service charge industrialists pay monthly. What I think we should bother ourselves withnow is how effective is the service going to be soon.”

As I said during my inaugural address, “the time for lamentation is over; this is the era of transformation”. Our rail infrastructure is being brought back on track and expanded; our road networks are receiving attention even as we insist on getting them wider and better. As some of you may have noticed, theaviation sector is being overhauled so as to make flying accessible to the average Nigerian. Politics3 Footballers Lured To Death by olokfor(op): 8:48pm On Aug 19, 2013
These are not the best of times for Mr. Martin Iheanacho, a native of Afugiri in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State. He was forlorn and downcast, as he cried blue murder over the gruesome killing of his son, David Nnabuihe Iheanacho, who was a rising star in the field of soccer, alongside three of his
colleagues. Iheanacho alleges that his son, the only son, and three of his friends, were murdered by people, who worked as their manager and coach.

The 19-year old young man, said to be a part-time student at the Lagos State University, and his friends met their untimely end on July 11, 2013. Mr. Iheanacho alleged that the team manager, one Emeka (surname withheld by us), had a hand in the unsavoury incident, allegeing that he and the coach must have negotiated and collected money from foriegn agents, who allegedly lured the footballers to Cotonou, Benin Republic.

Iheanacho, a construction site foreman, said he found it strange that the players had to go to Benin Republic to see the agents. He said Emeka earned a living by hunting for young football talents, developing them and selling them to foreign football clubs in Europe where they play professional football. He has a football club where he hones his players’ talents. But Emeka told Daily Sun that David and his friends drowned in a River in Cotonou when they went to see a friend.

David and his colleagues joined the club with high prospects of playing in big European clubs some day. But they never lived to actualise their dreams, as the man, who promised to make their dreams come through, allegedly cut short their lives because of money.

The young men, according to Mr. Ihenacho, had been playing around African clubs before their manager, Emeka, came up with the idea of moving them to Europe for greener pasture.
