Paraquat can kill water leaf too. 1L is N2700 or so. Is it cheaper than 2 4 D?

Paraq is cheaper but the effect on water leaf is superficial, it will not last long before the leaf will bounce back.
2,4-D handles broad leaves better esp those with higher water content but will not kill narrow leaf/ grass family. Thats why the OP suggested mixing it with glyphosate if you have both types of weeds on your farm and must be applied b4 your crop start sprouting.

Madam, U wan carry Ogijo take dash Lagos by force ni grin? No matter the closeness Ogijo na Ogun state property. On a serious note, ogun state govt is not smart at all. They are not taking good advantage of the huge foreigh investments in that town. If that small town called Ogijo is under Lagos state, LASG would have harnessed it to a better centre of economic hub with more urbanization than the way it is. I cannot imagine a town with over 5 multinational industries but, with little or no basic amenities and a very poor road network, all the state govt can do is to fold her hands and be expecting Fed govt to construct roads for them on top the huge revenue generated from those industries. i dont know if Fed govt has finally constucted the major highway that connects the town to Lagos state cos its been like 2 yrs i have been to that axis.

Thank you @oluchidelly , I learnt a very important lesson this year...always take advise from actual farmers alone,people that owns a farm and plants what they talk about,there are lot of virtual farmers these days,I was convinced by someone that all hybrid seeds are ok,that was what led to me buying the royal bold f1 variety..it was a total disaster,lost 98% of the plant the bacterial wilt despite buying different fungicides although the few stands was left produced the biggest tomato fruits I've ever seen,I saw fruits weighing between 800g and 1kg they were enormously big and looking like pumpkin but very few..
It wasn't a total tho as i also planted platinum f1 too which did really well from which I recovered all the money I spent and more..

Thanks for your opinion on this issue I really appreciate..I am still gathering Intel.i am scared of having to leave my gen at the farm.

Picture 1 my first harvest
Picture 2 fruit from one of the royal bold that survived

@1st pix, always instruct your helping hands not to pluck unripe fruits as it makes produce look unattractive to the buyers. I guess you were selling at your farm gate, you may not have much issues but if you are to move your produce to the market square, you make have issues selling on time and, at good price. Albeit, good harvest you had there.

senior farmers in the house ,please i would like to ask if this tank (green arrow) can supply enough pressure to irrigate this land of 2 plots(red arrow) just to save cost of having to use generator everyday...the height of the tank is aout 12feets

@farmerakinloye6
@ideepaul
@oluchidelly

Glad to see you rising above your past failure. Please use good seed with good disease resistance this time around, havestf*d seed is not there yet.
To your question, i wl call your attention to 2 things. 1. pressure/height of tank 2. volume/capacity of tank.

1. The higher your tank, the higher the pressure that drives water through the drip tubes. i would have preferred height above 12ft for better result. but if you want to use the 12ft height: (i) you will avoid using filter cos it wil further reduce the pressure. That means your source of water must be very clean. (ii) your offtakers/connectors must have tap/valve, just in case if pressure could not drive water well to the extreme emitters, you will need to close some taps for the others. Tag flowmama to advise further on the suitable height, i think she uses gravity for her drips.

2. What is the volume of the tank? What is the population of the plants you are planting? How many litres of water do you intend to serve each plant?
The motive behind all these questions is for you to know if your tank can supply the needed water per day. For instance if the capacity of the tank is 4000L, and your plant population is 2,500 and you intend serving 2L of water per plant per day....you know the outcome already.

Sir even at 350 per 1 is costly for yam seeds. The person you bought your seeds from reaped you off. Please next time 150 or worst case 180 per seed yam is ok nothing more nothing less.

Secondly grow your own yam seeds yourself using mini sett technology. Use YouTube as your guide. You see alot of helpful videos there to guide you through so that no one reaps you off again.

What if each seed is big enough or has multiple tubers attached together in such a way one can cut one into 3 or 2, is the N350 still fair?

ytdivine:
Let's compare the yam-in-sack farming with the conventional method of farming yam.
1. You can get your produce in 7/8months as against the normal 10/11months
2. Minimal labour against the tedious work involved from land clearing to harvesting
3. Weeding is almost zero here
4. Building Yam trellis easier here
5. The yield is enormous here
6. Nutrients conserved and reused, not washed away.
7. The taste is better
8. Start up capital very small
9. The market price cheaper since the cost of production is lower
10. Easy to harvest
11. Less injured yam after harvest.

Feel free to add yours

you did a great job no doubt. however this method is better for subsistence farming and not for commercial scale. so, comparing this method with the conventional style may not be obtainable as the output from the latter wl definately outweigh your aboved listed benefits.

There is a cucumber they call "Jos cucumber" . It last long and doesn't taste bitter even if you don't irrigate well. Do you know any cucumber variety with this qualities?

Most cucumber farmers in Jos plant darina. Probably, it may be the one called such. I have not grown it before so I can't say of its qualities.

Good morning guys. I am having the issue of pest infestation in my small home garden.

I grow the following items as a hobby, water leaf, ugu, bitter leaf, and ego tete. However, I have not had much success with efo tete (green). Once they sprouts, I think army worms that eating them. In about a year of trying, I have eaten my green only thrice. I just cleared the last batch yesterday because of infestation.

I am beginning to notice the same thing on my bitter leaf. Something is seriously eating up the leafs and the same black eggs I see on my greens are now on the bitter leafs.

Please recommend a good organic pesticide for me. I consume what I produce often. Note: I don't have access to neem extract.

Thanks.

look for neem oil in agro shops around you. you can also check the profile of @ organicfoods. he has a thread on how to prepare your homemade pesticides.

I'm also planning to go large scale on this, I understand that a hectare of well managed cassava would yield at least 30 tons of cassava, a ton of cassava is currently been sold at 50k on jiji so you should do the maths.

The figures here are over estimated. Always use the worst case scenario when dealing with what you have little or no control over. 20mt per hec is still moderate. Ignore that jiji figure.

Even hybrid that have no BW resistance should not all look like this . Bros, i suspect an operational error...do you apply nitrogenous fertilizer prior to the issue?

Tom is one of the very few veggies that command better price during raining season. Most northern farmers shift attention to grow more of grains during raining season.

I used 2 bags of neem coated Indiana urea per hectare and i used a jab planter. For the army worm infestation, I am dealing with it as I am using panicilin and caton to destroy their generation.

Well over a million naira project, you are doing well. FCT is close to you, fresh corn is like gold there. if you can penetrate their markets with the fresh corn, it will make alot of sense.

White Rice is basically use for "Tuwon Chinkafa" a swallow Kinda delicacy prominent in Northern Nigeria,we also have what we call Masa or Waina it's a derivative of White Rice as well.The former is eaten with any soup of choice while the later is either eaten with Miyan Taushe or Yaji(sweet peppers)
When next you think of tuwon Chinkafa;think of eating Semovita in Rice form.

i am very familiar with the delicacy cos i lived in the North. i never knew there's a special type of rice used for preparing it. Thanks for the info.

good job bro.

your farm looks very green, 1. which fertilizer do you used?
2. how many Kg used for the 10 hectares?
3.which device did you use for planting?
4 any issue wth armyworms, i spotted few stands with armyworm infestation.
