Agriculture / Re: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by OluchiDelly: 1:34am On Mar 21, 2023 |
mcyemite: Did you treat the soil with nematicide? Uproot one or two infected ones and check the roots for nematode infestation. You can snap and post the roots zone if you don't know how to check for nematode. 2nd suspect is likely BW. Unlike Padma and platinum F1, I don't think EWS really provide details of diff disease resistance of diva F1 in the public domain. Diva is meant to scale up in size (and color) above platinum. When sizes get bigger, one or two disease resistance is usually sacrificed. Thats what you experienced on your farm between the two. This is also applicable to cobra 26 and cobra 34 where the latter sacrificed Vd resistance for it's bigger size. |

mcyemite: its 2 weeks, she said since feb 22nd. tom seed takes less than 5days maybe extra 2 days if something goes wrong. Avuu2204: soil should not be your problem since u have don it before with local breed. 1. did you cover it with leaves to induce warmth/heat and to minimize evaporation? 2. in dry season open field nursery, unlike during rainy season, you wl need to remove the leaves midway (like on the 3rd day) , wet it again and then return the leaves. possibly the ones that did not receive enough water are the ones that did not germinate well. 3. the mass of sand you used to cover the seed should not be too heavy on the seed otherwise you wl be conducting burial service for the seed. 4. i hope you are not been carried away by the denser population of seedlings from local breed nursery? just because local seed is too cheap, some farmers close theie eyes and broadcast it heavily and this result into a denser pop of seedlings. but hybrids are always scanty inside their sachets...so you get what you broadcast. |

RuMiRgO1stSon: Thanks for sharing. BTW: see regime below as copied from oxford dic: (also regimen) (medical or formal) a set of rules about food and exercise or medical treatment that you follow in order to stay healthy or to improve your health. or a system or ordered way of doing things. And to your failed beans project, don't intercrop beans with corn again. The powder (pollen grain) from the tassels is very toxic towards some fragile crops. Have u ever notice itches all over your body when u entered a maize farm during tasseling stage esp by noon,? 11 Likes |

RuMiRgO1stSon: Ok ,thanks. 1. Which farm implement did you use for ridging, it looks neat. 2. Also, ...for planting. cos I observed you did not use wheel seeder. 3. Due to the terrain,I sensed you grow in the north meaning you must have applied fertilizer. What's your fertilizer regime? 4. Your herbicides regime also. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: Naira Notes Scarcity: Edo Govt To Set Up Special Task Force On Pos Agents by OluchiDelly: 9:08pm On Feb 06, 2023 |
Misplaced priority. Is pos operator the cause of naira scarcity? As long as I don't support outrageous charges and, at the same time you cannot expect someone who spent the whole working hours of the day on the que just to collect 20k per day and we also expect them to charge N300 as usual. from this same 20k, he will pay salesgirl/boys salary, rent of the shop he's staying and other everhead expenses. Make we reason am well. 6 Likes |

Farmerakinloye6: You have done justice to his question brodaly. A standard plot of land in places like Ogun/Lagos state is 36m x 18m (120ft by 60ft). So 36m is just the same as the the length of a plot of land which is not that long according to your submission. |

gten10: How thick is the vegetation on the land, is it stump free? If the vegatation is light and stump free, then u spend less on land cultivation, with less than 15k u can plough with a tractor. If the vegetation is very rough, you may resort to manual clearing and ridging which will cost more. Check out the rough estimate below. ploughing: 15k Herbicides: 8k(glyphosate+2,4-D/any good pre emergent. Cass stem, 20-25bundles: 15k.@N500/bundle Planting: 7k Selective herbicide @7-8wks: 7k Herbicide @4 months:3k(paraquat, spray wt caution). You can intercrop with maize( but your herbicide regime will slightly change) to recoup all these expenses within 3months. |
Agriculture / Re: Selective Herbicid For Egusi Plant by OluchiDelly: 10:56pm On Jan 06, 2023 |
Tohsynetita1: 1. Well, i dont know the type of of mulching u are talking about. Whether mulchinng film or dry grasses, none is even applicable here as the OP is talking about 50 acres(not 5) of melon farm(not cucumber, tomatoes and the likes). 2. Be careful with the chemicals you recommend on line, wrong prescription can ruin multi milion naira project. To the 2 herbicides you recommended above, Fulsilade is only applicable if the weed on his farm is >90% grasses. It does not kill broadleaves. i used to buy a bottle around 10k which can serves one acre. imagine the OP has more of broadleaf weeds on his farm and he ignorantly takes your advice and buys 50 bottles for the 50 acres...almost N500K fruitless venture...after spraying, the weeds will still be smiling. To the 2nd herbicide you mentioned, it is more applicable for root crops: cassava, yam, ginger, etc. I have used diff brands of it...forceuron, royaluron, etc. none of these manufacturers mentioned melon. Let's be guided, peace. 1 Like |

ozome15: Yes, but with some side effects such as delayed maturity, stems will become longer(instead of being dwarfed) and it will not yield its full potential. You may have a better results if inter cropped with some well spaced trees like palms. |
