So many people out there can spend quality hours almost daily, arguing in favour of their preferred Presidential or Governorship candidate, but won't sacrifice a few minutes to pick up their PVCs or register to vote.
To such I say,...a simple vote for a CHANGE is more valuable than 365 days of arguments.

To those who tend not to care about the electoral process, apathy(I don't care attitude) surely affects us all. How?
From your salary or business profits, you buy unavailable fuel a lot for generators or pay inflated PHCN bills. I hear the Fed Govt plans to remove fuel subsidy(increase fuel price) in 2015. That extra cash can do something else for u.

Imagine what d missing $20b can do. That's over N3tr! Almost a year's budget. It can over provide Superb infrastructure toh sure! Yet our President says "stealing is not corruption".
It's easy not to care about d country. After all, when u make your own money, what's your business with govts' failure. But when u earn Naira and try to spend Pounds or Dollars abroad for short holidays(in better countries), u'll realise how useless ur economy & currency are.

CHANGE beckons on you & I dis time. Don't vote for a Christian or a Muslim(after all Fashola is a Muslim who delivered), a Southerner or a Northerner, or those who share rice, yeye money, provisions,etc. Don't vote those who treat governance with a 'business as usual' mentality by pardoning corrupt thieves. Vote a Nigerian who can make d much needed difference on Corruption, Security & d Economy.
Go out, get ur PVC, let ur vote add to d difference.
Ultimately, before casting ur vote, ask urself just one question. Are our lives better than they were 4-5yrs ago? If not, CHANGE becomes d only wise choice.

Hi all,
I sort of stumbled upon this thread and i must accede, you guys are doing a great job here. so i registered to get better access to the experts in the field.
Alright, I am a 400 level student in the department of mechanical engineering and i'm in need of professional advice.
I got into school with the aim of graduating with a first class honors b.eng degree but unfortunately, along the line i just suddenly lost focus on my chosen career path. A part of me wanted to transfer to chemical engineering and the other wanted to remain in mechanical. The internal struggle took a huge toll on my grades and if i were to be honest with myself, a first class would be a tall order right now. I still stuck with mechanical engineering eventually.
I'm past the stage of beating myself up over that costly mistake and i am ready to seek advice on what to do in order to fill up the vacuum a 2.1 grade will create in my future CV.
I'm considering learning a new language most probably french.
I also want to learn matlab, solidworks/autocad and p&id .
And finally I intend to learn a programming language (most probably Java).
I want to know from the experts if i'm towing the right lane or if there is something more i need to do to add some more colour to my future cv.
Your replies would be greatly appreciated.

To add to what darellrivers has said, coming out with a 2.1 is very much ok as u almost get same opportunities as first class guys would. But I'll prefer you work hard to end up with a very high 2.1 (btwn 4.16-4.49 GPA). I put that GPA cos during my scholarship hunts, I've seen many top overseas schools peg their minimum undergraduate GPA ranging from 4.15-4.20 to mk one eligible for their masters scholarship. (it could be less or more depending on d school)
As for ur choice of course, u did d perfect thing by sticking to Mechanical guy! No bragging.. but Mechanical appears to be the father of Engineering when it comes to opportunities. I've met many friends who wish they did mechanical in their first degree because of d privileges I've had over time that dey don't. Would av given countless examples but I'm not a guy of too many words. Though I chose mechanical out of passion right from primary 5 for particular reasons.
Summary is, the highest GPA doesn't guarantee a brighter future as u'll still av to compete out dere for same opportunities. Having worked in two engineering coys just within 1.5yrs of completing NYSC compared with those with higher GPA than me and yet to get an offer, I can only say...do ur best in school and let God handle d future.

A mech engr. Graduated Dec, 2011. Fell in love with Power plant eng during my undergraduate days, but found myself in d oil n gas sector as an Offshore assets engr (where job hunting first paid off).
If God wills, may further in thermal power.
I advice undergrad beginners to tk all preliminary engineering courses in year 2 (thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, strength of materials, engineering mechanics, etc) most seriously as they give u a major background n head start for years 3,4 n 5.
With a rudimentary understanding of it, eng thermodynamics is pretty easy, though most feared.

Ok guys, this is for my friend and former course mate. Apparently, he's d most confused guy ryt now. A mech eng graduate, concluded NYSC wit me(june 2013), and tried to get a job to no avail. He later got a PG diploma scholarship to do pet eng at IPS. On rounding off, he got MSc pet eng wit IPS as well as a $50,000 MSc pet eng scholarship to d UK. Of course he took d latter.
Now this is d ish: Just a day before going to d embassy to apply for his UK visa, he got an offshore job wit an indigenous E & P coy but as an operator dis time.
I can tell u dat dis guy is as confused as he'll right now! Please guys, ur immediate response will be appreciated.

I have finally concluded that Dragnet test will never be a true test of one's knowledge.
Imagine preparing very hard for a test only for you to get there and meet d exact questions they've been using for almost every company out dere for years now, it becomes a matter of who has written d test more number of time (say over 5 times in 2 months) and is now more familiar with the passages, questions, answers,etc than who is more brilliant. Bullshit! *trust me, I know how good it feels answering a known, previously answered set of questions*
For once, I was gingered & eager in preparing & sitting for an aptitude test of a company I like. But after seeing these same set of questions I saw last yr when I last wrote Dragnet, I gave up on dem as they r even too lazy to come up with something more competitive.
At this point, it's best not to care anymore; pass or fail. U all know ur IQ worth, Dragnet or not.

Wow, you left school in 2011 and ur still 25. Man u r young. I studied mech too but went thru an unconventional route to work in high finance out of love (not necessity, biko kwa). But after a career meltdown im now goingback to my engineering roots. All my peers( bar none) who left to study for an msc in pet engr or a related degree virtually all have good jobs with the top oil majors or service coys like schlum and subsea7. I'm about to do same now, got admitted into very good msc petrolem and subsea programs in the states There's simply no other option for me, study now or live to regret wondering what if i did. Instead of talking about it I'd advise you take the risk of applying to only the top programs in the UK --Heriot watt, imperial, Cranfield --and US-- Stanford, UT austin, Texas A&M. If you are admitted with funding or scholarships, weigh the cons and pros of leaving a job you dread for a very promising career prospect. It's night and day in my opinion. Personally i think the upside of an msc is higher at this point in your career, considering you want to break into an oil major.

So xfire...during my undergrad years as a mech student, I fell in love with power plant engineering so much that my lecturers knew me because I had always made their power plant exam look like a joke. so I decided that I was gonna practice engineering as a power engr. As life would have it with me, the two places I happened to have got job offers are in the oil and gas sector, and unfortunately, all the power companies' test I got invited for, I wasn't available to sit for them(offshore reasons).
Now with about 1.5yrs in d oil and gas industry, 'my eyes have opened' to the bountiful opportunities d industry offers ahead of others. So i've said goodbye to power eng.
Currently I work under d maintenance department with a servicing coy, but what I really want is to go all out into this industry with an IOC or even an indigenous E&P.
The question now is: do u think an overseas msc in pet eng is almost a sure bet into an E&P provided one can prove himself? I have few friends who went thru this route having tried to secure a job for a few months to no avail. Upon return to naija(with either a pet eng. or subsea msc), they got juicy E&P offers.
Truth is...On one hand, I don't wanna imagine being broke(without a job) having tasted d power of money in taking care of myself, my family, and friends in need . On the other hand, I feel the earlier I take this decision while still young(at 25), the better for me.

xfire, hope u are still on this thread as I've got some questions for you concerning some career decisions I plan to take.

I totally agree with virtually everything xfire has said. We always think there's a perfect company out there till u get there and realize it's not the bed of roses u once imagined. Later on, u'll find so many wrongs the once from-a-distance-perfect organization would do that u wont feel like remaining there by d following day.
I used to think when I started working offshore that that was the peak for me because: no daily lagos traffic(unlike office jobs), u spend almost same time u used offshore to rest at home as time-off, u eat good food(5 times daily),u have time to watch EPL, play video games, play indoor sports, etc., and u are far from the too many problems that would trouble ur brain when u are at home. But d disadvantages are equally huge: Little or no chance to pursue a new, bigger job offer since one may not be on land when scheduled for a test/interview(I missed several this year), having little time to pursue all that u left behind for d past month(if on one month rotation like me),sometimes it's chilling but sometimes working on d field could be really tough that u gotta push ur body to it's breaking point,etc.

I never like to comment on threads rather I just read thru and smile thru d inspiration gathered. I dunno why I felt compelled to write dis time. Mine is not too long...graduated in 2011(Mech Eng) with an over 80% GPA, waited for 6months (till July 2012) just like xfire for NYSC, started applying for jobs by early 2013. Did a few job tests/interviews while serving. Got an offer in a small engineering coy (an EPC) in lagos by May 2013. Concluded NYSC in June 2013 and joined the coy immediately as an office engr. Did 2 more tests and interviews while working there and got a bigger offer with an oil servicing coy in august 2013 as an offshore engr. I'm currently with them till now(typing from a deepwater field), but highly dissatisfied with life as regards where I want to be.

Hello, I need real advice here. I'm relatively new to the stock market(joined march 2014) and I request some quality opinions. Amidst other stocks, I bought Transcorp & Oando at 6.03 & 27.33 rspctvly. Now I'm being advised by my stockbroker to buy more of those shares at lower prices to average both stocks since they are at much lower prices now, to minimize loss. I heard share prices may go further down because of upcoming elections. Can my stockbroker be right?

Anyone with inside info on when the test is likely to hold should pls inform. I need it to plan my travels as I can't afford to miss this particular test...unlike others I missed in d past. A pm will be appreciated if u don't wanna publicise it. 10ks

Doubt if they simply like Engrs. They should actually prefer Accountants. D truth is Engrs perform better in their apt tests cos apparently dey are smarter & those kinda maths look easy to dem. Myself & several oda colleagues in skul all passed kpmg & d rest afta we had heard twas very difficult.

You made sense to some extent,but am sure common sense would tell u dat PDP/GEJ won't go that far to just allow a whopping 7 Govs in such crucial states to leave their fold all because they intend to frustrate a two-party system(PDP vs APC). If they worked that hard to win those states in 2011,what kind of trick wud PDP wanna play that'll make them give 7 states just lyk dat,simply cos GEJ wants to reton as President in 2015.
For me,it's eida VOP guys are simply tired of the high handedness of the national PDP/GEJ & they believe they can prosecute 2015 on their own(Lamido/Amaechi),or they finally wanna get a bargaining platform wit APC. As for Atiku & his PDM,he's no longa relevant in Nigerian politics that he'll lose his state(Adamawa) if he & Buhari contests same electns in 2015.

People wish they had other people's wives, husbands, children, girlfriends, boyfriends, positions, brains, properties e.t.c This usually is responsible for crimes in the society. You would be a better person trying to contain it by appreciating what you have.
