Sorry to disappoint you sir, but getting admission is not entirely a function of ur cgpa. And to shock you more, what u consider high cgpa, may actually not be high when you have more than 50 applicants having higher grades and the dept can only take 30 or 40. You can't get into some programs directly, except you go through PGD, because they are too competitive. For some programs, you need to get a supervisor before you can be accepted, if you don't have a supervisor, u won't be accepted. And for some other programs, you just need to put in more effort in your SOP and make sure your referees write something good about you. So try and contact the school/dept before wasting another 100 dollars, ask questions and be sure what they really want.
Don't be discouraged, getting admission is not as difficult as you think......some of us got it at our first attempt.....and come to think of it, my CGPA is lower than yours....lol
Lastly, if you say getting admission is difficult, what will you say about getting visa? So it is too early to be discouraged sir!

I actually chose M.Eng to save myself the stress of looking for a supervisor who will hardly respond to your email. For the first application(UofM) I did, perhaps I was naive not to value the importance of a good SOP. But for the second(UofR), I'm sure it was excellent at least from the views of my former colleagues now in top US schools. The only aspect I may not be too sure of is the academic references. Of my two referees, one is a Dr. while the other is doing his PhD. Could that be an issue as opposed to using Profs? I no get Professor friends oh.

It seems getting MSc admission into Canadian Universities is a 'big deal'. I've applied to two schools now but wasn't admitted; UofManitoba(Mech Eng.) & UofRegina(Pet. Eng). I wouldn't know what they really want but I know those are at least not the top five ranked schools in Canada for which makes me wonder why they reject like that. After coming up with a good SOP, academic references, CGPA of 4.2/5.0 (Mech Eng), meticulously filling their application forms; One wonders what they really from me again! Them jus dey wack my $100 sha..

I'm wondering how to confirm my Transcript has gotten to NTNU. I completed all the necessary procedures for it to depart my school on October 8. I believe they handed it over to the UPS guy on same date. NTNU states on their website that they can't confirm to have received any parcel for applicants as they get a lot of parcels. Am I just supposed to believe it must be with NTNU already?

Good point. There may well be several reasons for choosing Norway instead, no tuition being one of them. There is definitely a language barrier, so it is something to consider.

It isn't that rare to find people who aren't prepared for the costs. A bag of food at any of the low-cost foodchains might very well cost 7k naira and upwards, so you can easily figure the cost long-term (though with some budgeting and smart purchases you can get by with less). It's a really bad idea applying for a course here if you do not have the necessary funds. It will make you broke more or less and won't be very enjoyable.

One thing I've observed is that people buy a lot of beer and then complain about the costs of living. There is free, clean water in abundance, what would you need beer for? Alcohol is one of the most expensive things you can purchase. The 2,5m naira fund requirement is actually not a lot of money in this country, believe it or not.

Well, I'm used to managing myself when it becomes necessary. I still can't believe I lived on 20k(5.5% of income) as pocket
money this month just to enable me meet up d 2.5m account balance in short notice.
My only worry about Norway is ones chance of getting a skilled job related to ones course of study after MSc, if one truly has only 6months extension to achieve such in a country with a different national language. Bros, I don't hope to return to 9ja as an applicant after leaving my job to gain knowledge about the field I'm passionate about. At least 5yrs of skilled work there will be a good reward.
I initially wanted Canada but I'm only trying Norway cos of the affordability and cos they offer the course I love to further on.

With the rate at which things are changing in our Nigeria of today, I'm beginning to have a second thought about relocating to North America in the near future to seek a better life. I get back home from work after a stressful day, there's constant electricity till I leave the house 5am the next morning, so I put off the fridge before leaving the house, same thing during the weekend. Things are beginning to pick shape generally.
I look at the credentials of all those appointed so far, my heart gets filled with joy, except when I read the senseless comments of supposedly educated Nigerians who know nothing but tribe and religion. Then I wonder, how will an appointment given to man from my state affect my pocket if I don't hustle hard as I do.
We are getting there, that I'm sure of! If we can use the next 4-8yrs to fix corruption as well as basic infrastructure, I bet y'all that considering our human and mineral potentials, you won't recognise Nigeria again in the next 15yrs.

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday directed the Inspector-General of Police, Sunday Arase, to prune down the number of policemen attached to dignitaries.

Mr. Buhari also directed the police inspector general to redeploy all policemen withdrawn from that role to regular police duties.

The President also warned that he would not tolerate any irregularities or extortion of money from unemployed Nigerians in the coming recruitment into the police.

At a meeting with officials of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Police Service Commission in the Presidential Villa, President Buhari sad applicants having to pay bribes before being accepted into the police in the past was totally unacceptable.

The President told the officials that those in charge of recruitment and training in the Police must be above board and eschew every form of extortion and underhand dealing.

“You must ensure that the recruitment process is transparent. Those who will conduct the recruitment must be above board. It should not be heard that they receive gratification or extort money from those who want to enlist in the police,” Femi Adesina, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, quoted President Buhari as saying.

On the stagnation of policemen on a rank for many years, the President counselled the Police Service Commission to review the current structure of the police, and make recommendations on how the problem can be solved to boost the morale of serving policemen.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Police Affairs, James Obiegbu, had, in his briefing to the President, listed inadequate police personnel, dwindling finances and non-rehabilitation of police training schools as some of the challenges facing the police.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Mike Okiro, said the country needed to have more than the 305,579 policemen and women it has at present for effective policing.

He thanked President Buhari for approving the recruitment of 10,000 additional policemen and women earlier this week.

That's how Nigerian newspapers will be mis informing Nigerians till God comes without doing proper investigation. Ugochukwu is my neighbour and I interact with him. The last talk we had, he was disappointed that he couldn't get university admission when his classmates have either graduated or are about to. Perhaps things were not working for him and his siblings as he hoped(quite complicated). I advised him to focus and study hard as I always encourage younger ones around my environment. Because once they lose focus, they join d streets to mess up their lives with NFAs. At a time he stopped going to church(Jehovah's witness) with his aunt.
Was so shocked to return from church to hear about this ugly news. Couldn't believe it till I saw him myself hanged to d fan.
Trust me, this can never be about his colour. A lot of people call him Paul Scholes and he enjoys the name wella. These same Nigerian print media that like saying "Our source in the Presidency informed us.." quickly concluded cos he's an albino. *smh*

Suicide doesn't end it all.

I wish he knew it. I've thought to myself about this whole idea of suicide over the years, including all the possible things that can make one contemplate it and I've realised that Nothing ever can make me reason it.
It's nothing but a one way ticket to hell!

Wonders indeed shall never end!!! Just got back from church only to hear my neighbour Ugochukwu, a young guy of about 23 has committed suicide by hanging.
So shocked to see him hanged to the fan with a blue rope on his neck.
The Festac police guys have come to untie the rope and take his body away.

The last I knew, he was frustrated about no university admission, no money, etc.
Thought this happens only in the movies.

this question is all about perspective and present position in life and society. I can bet you that anyone who is educated and presently working in naija and who has access to above 2million will gladly go for the green card. Cos they now understand d value of our naira. Personally, if I get that opportunity, having lived and worked in naija and knowing dat with the economic environment here that 20m can disappear in 2years if I am not careful, I will quickly go for the green card. Anybody who want me to stay in naija will have to raise the stakes at least 5 times higher. 100million.

Exactly! Having earned and saved a few millions in Nigeria during my 2yrs of post NYSC work, I've realised that N20m is nothing in this country. As you said, only those in such shoes may get the picture clearly. it's clearer that those who are saying even N2m is enough are yet to earn money and feel it's real value.

North America is a continent. Canada is in North America. I actually have Canada in mind, not USA.

Mehn, it's hard to choose, especially when relocating to North America is utmost on my mind right now. Our money keeps becoming valueless with time that N20m doesn't look so attractive anymore. I guess only N1b can make me choose to stay back.

Now let me analyse it based on my knowledge of the issues. Sylva fell out of favour with former president Jonathan just before the Bayelsa PDP guber primary in 2011. Gej used the PDP NWC to bar Sylva from contesting the PDP primary. Subsequently, he used EFCC to hunt him out of the state. Sylva relocated to abuja.
While I acknowledge that Sylva, as well as all past Bayelsa governors including Dickson, Jonathan and Alameiseighia are corrupt (for me, where there are no concrete developmental projects to show, corruption is definitely present), the case of Sylva was more of a GEJ personal vendetta against Sylva. So now that GEJ is out of office, the case has died!

I was watching Politics Today on Channels TV yesterday at 8pm and the anchor, Seun Okinbaloye could as well not confirm the number of seats each party controls while trying to analyse the possibility of Gbajabiamila or Dogara emerging as the new Speaker.
So I took the liberty to find out from INEC's website before arriving at the final figure.

I'm trying to find out how possible it is for one to attend the interview on a date different from his/her scheduled date and still be interviewed. I'm out off Nigeria now and will be back by next week. I least expected NDDC to invite for interview this early(May 21 for me). I've contacted them but no response so far. Anyone here who has tried this in previous years here?

Sorry I don't have any connection to help. I've only gotten jobs by merit all my life. All I do is apply online, wait and pray for a chance to prove myself. It's quite hard to ask an ordinary employee to help one get a job especially when it's not his father's company. You mostly get that in govt agencies where merit is discarded and people fix their folks into various positions. I hope you understand.

The incumbent Governor Rochas Okorocha has secured victory after today’s supplementary polls to conclude the inconclusive governorship election in Imo State. Mr. Okorocha, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has beaten Emeka Ihedioha, the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by 416,996 votes.   Mr. Ihedioha scored 320,705 votes.
In declaring Mr. Okorocha as winner in Owerri early morning in Nigeria, the Returning officer stated that that the total number of valid votes amounted to 782,528.

well, I believe buhari will win the polls without a run-off, but I think some of these figures are not realizable. Take Kano for example, I don't see Jonathan getting up to 500,000 votes there. same way I don't see buhari sharing the south-east votes in the ratio 2:1 or even 3:1 with gej, so jonathan would do better than those figures in the southeast. In the southsouth, APC's worst outing would be in Crossriver as they have no major presence there. So I wonder why d survey gives PDP 300,000 and APC 200,000. Finally, the number of voters on that day will exceed the number brandished in this survey in some states....like Kaduna. I predict a very narrow victory for Buhari/Osibanjo.

I think that these APc governors think that the average nigerians are as gullible and as shallow informed as their well funded foot soldiers. For starters a governor like fashola much as I like his charisma and apparent display of natural intelligent does not have any right to point fingers to opposition in terms of corruption and discrimination becomes lagos we all know is the headquarter of corruption, intimidation, and impunity-infact the the 'president of corruption' lives right under fasholas roofand he turns a blind eye simply because of godfateherison! The corruption in lagos is so systematic that if your not watchful you will think they are doing you afvour, a state where one man practically dictates how much you spend on a daily basis, lagos has the highest number of untouchables, men that no matter what they do no law can catch up with them. A state where citizens pay tolls do simple things like going to work everyday and coming back, note that these tolls where built with their taxes, personally I was forced to part with n600 (n300 to and fro) on tolls to go to lekki via the so called ikoyi link brigde, that's robbery because fashola and his. Godfathers did not build that bridge with their pocket money! The so called estate they talk about, take your time and do a research on the distribution after you come back and share your findings. He is talking about equity and fairness, this state runs the most tribally discriminatory leadership you can think off! Infrastructure devt in areas mainly occupied by a particular section of the residents are either comatose or move at a very snailish rate, for instance the popular link road from okota to mile 2 has been under construction for almost the entire fasholas tenure time will fail me to stae that roads in a central locationlike okota are highest state of dilapidation while fashola sings about development of lagos. Lagos up till today the popular ladipo market roads are in grave state of disrepair after several efforts were made to get the state. Govt to fix them; what about the unbearable traffic at toyota. As aresult of traders rsiking their life by crossing the busy express? Instead of constructing a pedestrian fly over for these guys, the decided to construct one at illassa, where there is no pedestrian traffic. I do not doubt that fashola might be a nice man, I also do not doubt that he might have had genuine intentions when he started but obviously he couldn't. Hold on for too long due to pressures from his paymasters, off course he has to do their bidding! Same will happen to the 'fine boy' emissary that they want to force on lagos again so as to continue their 'dynasty of perpectual corruption, over taxation, and impunity' yet and most annoyingly they point fingers on the PDP! Firstly, u were not specific on "Corruption, Impunity & Untouchables in lagos" so I'll pass on that.
2ndly, tolls are not new to this world, I wonder why you guys tk that of lekki so personal. Doesn't ur F.G collect several tolls at ikeja, airport area? See the state of the airport roads we pay tolls, very messed up! But see lekki-epe express, always properly maintained and beautified by LCC. Any vehicle that breaks down is removed in minutes, same attention for car accidents. I was once in a bus and d driver commented that "this is the best road to drive on in Lagos,if not Nigeria sef"
For the okota link rd, Fashola started it, but was taken to court by some landlords whose properties were to give way for d road. Being a law abiding SAN, he had to stop work.
So because there's no pedestrian bridge at ur regular route I suppose at Toyota, d one at ilasa is now useless to lagosians? Well I've used it severally. And there's no pedestrian bridge leading to my abode too as Fashola can't do everything. Mind you, Oshodi-Apapa is a federal responsibility incase u forgot.
Lastly, lemme end by telling you no one is perfect and u av a right to criticise Fashola. But for every finger u point at him(a performer), 1000 others point back at GEJ(a failure) and all his PDP governors(except Akpabio)
