Sorry Davidzfarm18,what happened to your birds? these hactheries must be made to bear some of these losses they cause farmers. How do we enforce this? Our Governemnts do not have legal framework for such enforcement. God will help us.

Eggcelent .....omotititi. Have you ever gotten brown DOC pullets from Zartech Benin? If yes, what has been the experience in terms of liveability & production? I called Zartech Ibadan which is my usual source, but they seem fully booked for the next several weeks so I'm thinking of doing biz with Benin. Thanks. jamp. How far with the birds you were planning to buy? I believe they should be with you by now.[/quote]

@Eggcelent.....I have never used Zartech's birds. I stock only CHI. However, i hv a friend who has been using their products and she said they are top performers and that the only issue with them is CRD and that if one is able to check it early enough in their brooding stage, it will not pose any challenge in their productive stage. I suggest you buy from them since you currently buy from their sister outlet in Ibadan.

Thank you all my mentors/brothers/sisters for the words of encouragement. I am greatly moved by this outpouring of love. God will continue to enlarge our coast.

@Jamp...... Kindly commence milling your feed cos that is the only way to reduce cost. I have been using my compounded mills for more than 2yrs now and it has been working . Please ,quickly switch to local feeds and take the steps Laposta advised you in his post.

Thank you.

Agriculture / Re: Starting A Poultry Farm (a Blog) by omotititi: 1:04pm On May 19, 2015
A move on how we can reduce cost of feeding for laying birds will tremendously help us all. Please let someone answer Davidzfarm question on cost of feed per bag. In Benin,it cost me about 1900 to compound my layers mash. I am still of the opinion that it can be less than this for us to be profitable as the price of eggs is still hoving between N550 and N650 per crates.

@Jamp....I will advice those that want battery cages to buy good quality cages. All these locally made will disappoint in the long run. I will rather buy 2-3 cages monthly till I get what I want than spend money on local cages.

What happened to your cages? i bought locally fabricated cages since 2013 and they are still in very good condition....please share with s your experience so that we can all learn.

Thank you sir.

Wow...Bigiyaro welldone. I am currently experimenting with 51 broilers and they are 12 weeks today and i dnt like the price the market women are offering. One of them priced N1300 per very big birds not less then 2.5kg each and i almost asked her to vanish from my farm and the other one said my birds were too clean and that her "spirit' does not angre with them. Please house, has anyone heard that kind of afternoon confession before? I have been doing layers and this is my first attempt at broilers. i bought only one box and they added on extra making 51 and they all survived and i feed them well.Making sure the environment is clean and as such have clean birds is that a sin?

In addition, what price did you sell your mature birds Bigiyaro or anyone else? my farm is in benin.

Thank you for keeping the forum alive.

@Tunecvic.....Please start your day old chicks well by feeding them quality feed like topfeed. it will help them to grow well and be healthy. We all play around local feed but it is from grower's stage to when they start laying. The foundation at that tnder stage is very critical...

Welldone to Jamp,FNK,Obnelly and all those who have kept the thread alive. We are with you guys and our farms are also doing very well.

We bless God.

@Jamp...obnelly. Longest time. Where have u been. You guys have abandoned us. Fnk, omotiti, samhoz , davidsfarm, basking4me where una dey...

My brother, we are still here.
How are you and the poultry business. Thank you guys who have helped to keep the house going.

Well, the past few months have been quite eventful for me...some good news and some bad news too.
Let me start with the good news....I have moved my farm from the level of 500 layers to a capacity of about 2500 with the birds at different ages. and i have completed my new farm pen of 30 by 100 in a new location and hv gotten cages to house about 2000 birds. That is on d good side.

The bad side now..... the Day old chicks i got in february and i lost quite alot due to vaccine failure are now mature but are not producing optimally. The remaining ones are not doing well at all in terms of egg production and i am already selling them to market women. We cant explain why they are not doing well cos they were well cared for and have been in cages for months now.

I am currently growing another set of 1000 doc and they are already eleven weeks old now. and we got 650 point of lay from animal care on august 7 and they have started dropping but at a reduced rate because my worker didnt handle them well within their first 3weeks with us. He was underfeeding them and making away with my feeds. I have since sacked him and replaced him with someone else and the story has radically changed.

In all of these,I see hope and success in the nearest future and so no giving up...Successful business people go through all sorts before the breakthrough will come.

We are very much in the business casue we are passionate about it and will remain whether rain or sunshine.

Thank you house and lets keep the push.

God bless.
