The United States is committed to supporting and advancing democracy in Nigeria and around the world. Today, I am announcing that we have taken steps to impose visa restrictions on specific individuals in Nigeria for undermining the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections cycle. These actions are specific to certain individuals and are not directed at the Nigerian people or the Government of Nigeria as a whole. Under Section 212(a)(3)C) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, these individuals will be subject to restrictions on visas to the United States under a policy covering those believed to be responsible for, or complicit in, undermining democracy. These individuals have been involved in intimidation of voters through threats and physical violence, the manipulation of vote results, and other activity that undermines Nigeria’s democratic process. The decision to take steps to impose visa restrictions reflects the continued commitment of the United States to support Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and the rule of law. |

Saga16:Gov Akeredolu of Ondo State said that killers of 40 Church goers in his Owo hometown, in the SW region, came from Mali. Political expediency for presidential election in which his principal, Tinubu, would contest. He would not want to lose the votes from the northern Sharia states where the Islamist killers come from, therefore, he refused to call a spade by its name. |

Nigeria's voters never renewed the tenure of APC which made Nigeria become the poverty capital of the world and one of the most terrorised countries on earth. Tinubu didn't even meet up with the 25% of votes in Abuja requirement by the Constitution. Tinubu lost Lagos, lost Kano, lost Kaduna states, lost Rivers, lost Katsina States, lost all the Eastern States, lost Edo and Delta. President Muhammadu Buhari; you wouldn't have become president of Nigeria if PDP in 2015 did what you are trying to do with Tinubu. There is no constitutional provision that once INEC pronounced a president-elect, the president-elect must be sworn in on 29th May. Allow the final arbiters on election, the courts, to do their job of arbitration to pronunce who truly won the last presidential election, or the court annulls the election results for a rerun presidential election, as Kenya did in 2017. Please don't put Nigeria into intractable conflict. |

What if PDP in 2015 did what APC is trying to do now: use INEC to rig election and pronunce GEJ reelected. Ask Buhari and APC to go to court; May 29 2015, GEJ got sworn in for 2nd term as president. The courts continue to prolong the challenge in the court till GEJ finishes 2nd term? Or GEJ uses federal might to buy the judges to dismiss the challenges to his reelection in court? See another APC mind bending propaganda. Did Tinubu fulfill the requirements to be sworn in as president of Nigeria? No. The Judiciary, not the INEC, is the last arbiter for election in Nigeria. There is no where the Nigerian Constitution stated that some one must be sworn in as president once pronounced by INEC as president-elect. There is no date fixed by the Constitution of Nigeria for swearing in of president-elect. And we are talking about a presidential election results being challenged at the Election Petition Tribunal. |
