Nwaisuochi: I am beginning to think that most people on NL are either illiterate or plain dumb. SA is more corrupt than Nigeria according to the perception of SA citizens interviewed. In essence, what most Nigerians consider as normal behaviour is seen as corruption by SA citizens. Nigerians have grown to accept a public official stealing public funds if he does some tangible work with the rest of the budget while SA sees its president as corrupt if he spends extravagantly though legally and openly on his private residence. In other words, the threshold for corruption is lower in Nigeria Thanks for this! Atleast there is hope for Nigeria in you. |

iheneme: The research shows that corruption has increased in South Africa as well as in Ghana and Nigeria. There is no place in the article where it is stated that Nigeria is now less corrupt. saintandsinnerz: Did you even read the article? As far I'm concerned the article was about a corruption survey in South Africa and the article even said Nigeria and Ghana are getting worse! What is the euphoria all about? politricks: Dont you guys understand english? The article said Ghana and Nigeria are some of the worst affected but Nigeria was the overall worst before south Africa overtook us. This means, we are no longer the most corrupt but we have not improved much also. I can only lmao hard at this. Nigeria proud themselves of being the most intelligent country in Africa but are unable to comprehend a simple article? This is the craziest thing ever! Now, if anyone has read the article thoroughly its : 1) A report on what citizens perceive 2) It shows the intolerance of corruption by South Africa as being at most high than fellow Africans ( Which is a great thing) 3) No actual audit of corruption cases were done but citizens were surveyed to give opinion What this article mean is: 1) More South Africans are vigilant and not complacent about corruption than their African counterparts 2) If you look at the most stated corruption case by South Africans its the Nkandla-gate which is $20 million vs Nigeria's latest Army gate @ $2.1 billion dollars. Nigerians should more angrier but maybe have gotten used to corruption than their South African counterparts. 3) Imagine $2 Billion being lost to corruption in SA, their citizens would lynch their government reps while Nigeria's are sympathetic to theirs. Conclussion : The article as an opinion of citizens about corruption and a barometer of corruption tolerance. FULL STOP! P/S : NIGERIANS VERY QUICK TO CELEBRATE RUBBISH! PassingShot: My take:
SA overtaking Nigeria as the most corrupt country in Africa may be due to either of two factors or a combination of both viz - 1. That SA has gotten worse in her fight against corruption without Nigeria necessarily doing better. 2. That Nigeria has increased her effort,in fighting corruption while SA has not done much within the same period.
Whichever way, I think Nigeria is on the right path with PMB in the driver seat. I can only lmao hard at this. Nigeria proud themselves of being the most intelligent country in Africa but are unable to comprehend a simple article? This is the craziest thing ever! DerideGull: Per the bolded each day I see such craps from ill-educated Nigerians of free-education, I resolve to see realization of Republic of Igbo land or reconfigured Biafra. Since Lagos is part and parcel of Nigeria, the IPOB has every fathomable right to protest or demonstrate in Lagos. In fact, the IPOB who are outside of Nigeria has rights to demonstrate and protest the realization of Biafra in foreign countries. If Yoruba is the only force that could put a clog in the wheels of pro-Biafran protesters, I am quite sure the IPOB will dance all day long from Ogbomosho to Ido without skin pain. GBAM! So you will see no problem with Boko Haram bombing and taking their fight to the South East right? Since South East is also part and parcel of Nigeria and Boko Haram's war is against Nigeria as a whole. I get you! |

[s] lastpage: Relax and stop eschewing IGNORANCE!
I am all for "war against corruption" be it from a religious body (Church, Mosque, e.t.c) but at the same time, l am all for fairness to EVERYONE.
1.) The Church is a "Charity organisation" and there are Laws governing the operation and filing of accounts of such Charities. If the law says they are not to publish annual accounts, then there is nothing anyone can do.... except that law is changed
2.) Chris is the head of that Church... but he is also not the accountant! In as much as l want to believe they all dip their hands into "God's Money"! l also know that these "pimping, con-men" are not that stewpid as not to "insulate" themselves. So, the law needs to be smart in this regard.
3.) When you say "Hoodwinking", you probably are thinking the "Law" has an excuse for foolish people who willingly surrender their money to the Church? NO! As long as people are stewpid enough to part with their money (probably under the promise of going to heaven, which they know they dont even deserve ... "who is trying to hoodwink who here"?)... you cannot blame the love-vendor of a Pastor who collects the money!
Like most things with South Africans, they dont reason deeply and like to introduce "Bigotry" into their actions. What they need to do is to educate their people to STOP being gullible and parting with their money.
And Pastor Chris is right (though l am no fan of his in anyway), if the enabling laws/Constitution does not empower this woman to ask the Church to bring their Accounts, trying to intimidate them would not work. They have a right to seek redress in Court, where a competent JUDGE would examine the Constitution and determine whether she is going beyond her Powers or not.
No one should be afraid of going to court or being taken to court, as long as you abide by the law. Just my humble take
Lastpage! [/s] Rubbish! You seem to be the ones with shallow mind and very sensitive attitude to law and order. 1) When an entity registers a business/NGO etc in any country it is an act of: a) Announcement of your existence to the government, b) A promise to play by the rules ( Legality) c) Subjecting the entity to scrutiny by the gvtal agencies if there's any suspicion of illegality or non compliance 2) Why would a church that registered decides it is now not bound by the laws of the land? It would be easy to have just not registered and do as it wills then. 3) SA LAW only exempts NGO's from paying tax but not from laws of the land, scrutiny from any suspicion etc. It is the duty of the entity to ensure at all times that it is accountable to the government by running a blemish free establishment, with no complaints from the communities and members. 4) Tax is not the only reason the govt would scrutinize ones books there many other reasons e.g. Revoking the right to operate, changing the status of your operations etc. 5) If nairelanders were reading first before commenting you would notice a lot of SA churches that were mentioned and complied with the status request. 6) If Chris is not happy with sharing his financial secrets then he could just deregister and operate where such are not needed. |

Nigeria is no longer conjucive for doing business, with all its challenges, the regulatory environment has made it business unfriendly. Most international companies will look east, Ethiopia, Tanzania and kenya are attractive and no bottlenecks.
Maybe Nigeria think they can build their own multinationals like the likes of DStv, MTN, Shoprite, Pick n Pay, Stanbic, Game. The question is, why could nigeria not have such businesses before they came in? The answer is, Nigeria was not capable and still not capable to run such businesses. More heads to roll! Reserve bank is thinking of increase commodity tax from 14%, that should tell you the economy is taking a hit.. march againat that wena You have comprehension issues wena. Where did he ask for support? SA doesn't need any support for its internal issues but what he said was other African countries could have taken the opportunity to join for their own benefit not SA students's benefit. They got the zero% they wanted a big step to the right direction. Our government is more than capable to offer free education. They should just double foreign students fees that will open more spaces for locals. If foreign students like you think fighting for better affordable education is stupidity and cannot do the same in their countries, call it our problem when we fight but want to benefit from it, they should pay. Further more if their countries education is good enough and they still travel out to study in other countries it means they can afford to pay. People should learn not to reap where they haven't sown. |

NIGERIA SHOULD CONTINUE THESE CHILDISH GAMES UNTIL THESE COMPANIES DECIDE NOT TO RENEW THEIR LICENCES AND SHIP OUT, THE LOSSES WILL BE COUNTED BY US, EU & OTHER INVESTORS WHO HAVE A LOT OF SAY IN MANY OTHER COMPANIES. MTN owns almost all the masts in Nigeria, when they decide to sell to Glo, Airtell et al, and exit that market then the world will be the winner. As Nigerians will be unable to maintain the masts with Boko Harm and Biafrans will bomb the mast, the remaining networks won't afford the diesel maintenance cost and that will result in total shut down of wireless network in Naija.
