Floxinor is always in a small bottle. They sell it for N500.00. I use 1 Bottle for 100KG. Since, am making use of earthen pond, I make use of it till d'point of sales. Prevention they say is better than cure. At the moment, I no longer use Floxinor rather I make use of tectracin. It is just N300.00 per sachet. However, premix and lysine are meant to aid feed digestion. So, i make use of it till d'point of sales although I reduce it to 0.5KG on 200KG but if u can afford more, it does not have any effect on the growth of fish.

Also, some school of thought believe that salt affects the growth of fish but I believe that it is also medicinal and helps to prevent diseases in fish. So, i used 3KG of salt in 100KG and I still get result.
sir, toasted soya as full fat soya?

saddek04: The last part of your post before d data loss was that after feeding with 0.8 & 1.2, u use only one bag of 2mm after which you switch to formula 1(200kg) & formula2(200 kg). These u said will take them to like 2nd month of stocking. After this, what formula can one proceed to and for how long before changing to probably formula 4 before disposing. Pls write it in details and step by step. Also, is it feeding to satiation or you just weigh the feed in kg? Tnx

I will advice you give the fishes vital or top feed till they are three months old, then switch to durante sinking feed till harvest. At what month do u want to harvest?

www.agricnetwork.com
four months. First time of using commercial feeds this long, but considering the high cost of ingredients making local feeds these days, better to continue with commercial feeds..thanks8

Durante sinking feed is a good feed, i once used it and didn't disappoint, u can use it sir.

www.agricnetwork.com
thanks mr robonski. Between the sinking and vital or topfeed floating, which will be better for two months and five days old fish. Price difference is just 32 naira per kg

I love your question. Like my oga at the top adviced earlier, Robonski; you need to know the source of ur fingerlins.

You need to make use of coppens at least for 1 and a half month

After which you switch over to local feeds(2mm size). Here is the formula that I used in my farm and I can confirm to you authoritatively that I can boast of fish weighing between 2KG to 2.5KG within four months, 1 week.

FM (Danish) 72% 40
Toasted Soya 20
GNC 20
Indomie or biscuit 20
Premix 1
Lysine 1
Vit C 200grams
DCP 1
Molasis 10
Floxinor 1
Salt 1

Sorry, I don't use maize, cassava flake, koko garri, Wheat offal, rice meal, pKC or what have u.

I used the above formula for 3 and half month after which I change to;

FM (local) 20
Broiler starter 50
GNC 40
TS 40
Flour 30
Indomie 20
Premix 1
Lysine 1
Vit C 150grams
Salt 1
Molasis 10
Floxinor 1

Please note that floxinor is just a kind of antibiotics to prevent them from illness or sicknss so to say.

You must also avoid excess salt because it will reduce the weight of fish since salt itself is medicinal in nature.

Above all, stop using short cut in rearing fish otherwise u will see short cut at selling point. Use the right formula and see the power of right formula. Just my two cents.

please, can the local feeds produced by durantey be used instead? It is 5,750 per 25kg.

@arramyjay,tanx so much 4 this info. Actually,I av bn looking 4 info like this on this forum. Infact I just finished d construction of my pond ytday and I want 2 ask these questions.
1. What's d diff btw fingerlings and juveniles?
2. Will those catfish grow very well in a brick-constructed pond?
3. As a starter,how can I neutralise d cement odour in d pond?
4. If d sun is 2 much on d pond,how can I protect d water from being 2 hot 4 d fishes? I'm scared cos d recent Sun is rather 2 hot.
5. In what month can I sort d big 4rm d small cos I read somewhere above that they eat each other?
6. Do I still need d Bio-disc despite having a constant flow of water supply?
Thanks as I await ur response.

In using concrete pond, the fish only consume what you give to them unlike in earthen pond where they can get natural foods from the soil. my advice is to line the bottom of the concrete pond with clay soil to about 0.15 meters high. i do mix the clay soil with chicken manure before lining at the bottom of the concrete tank, this help to produce natural food in the pond and also create natural habitat for the fish

good post, very educative. @RK.toyosi.the land area you will need should depend on the type of pond you will be using and the stocking density. if you are using earthen pond, you should increase the stocking density unlike using concrete pond where you can only stock at 5pc/ square meter. polyculture practice is encouraged but you really have to maintain your pond water quality, catfish can survive even at 0 dissolved oxygen level but tilapia can never, so you really have to consider this. can the feeds of catfish also be used for tilapia? maybe the OP should educate us on that, though i doubt it..

Agriculture / Re: Catfish Farming: My Story by opes: 11:45am On Feb 02, 2012
the pond odour can be prevented by using PROBIOTICS. I was using chicken manure to indirectly feed my fish and also using it to fertilize my pond water because i used the pond water to culture duckweed. in two of my ponds, i used fresh chicken manure so odour is expected. it will be tedious changing the water regularly, but you have no option than to change and replace the pond water by at least 20% so that your fish quality will not be affected by the odour. though my production is not for commercial purpose, rather a livelihood project and training for local farmers.

@mishrekric, with good cultural management, you will need about 1.5 kilogram of feeds to produce 1 kilogram of catfish (if you are using artificial feeds).

i make use of few quantity of commercial feed, later i use probiotic to produce algae and other beneficial bacterials which the fish can feed on naturally. i save few money doing these, i also tried building poultry house on top of one of my fish pond, the chicken manure served as fertilizer and feeds for my fish and the result was good (though i still applied commercial feeds but very few).
i visited some farms in Asia, what they do is they add 50% duckweek and 50% commercial feeds to produce Tilapia, they got a good result.
