We would like to bring to the notice of the world what the citizens of Borno state, and particularly the candidates and supporters of the PDP are currently going through in Borno state. Last night, all posters, banners and billboards of all PDP candidates and the flags of the PDP, were destroyed on the orders of Govenor Kashim Shettima, using an illegal security outfit which, he devised and named ‘Boyes’. Just because he didn’t want President Buhari, who is visiting the state today, not to see any of them. In spite of its illegality however, ‘Boyes’ is surprisingly being supervised by the attorney general, who is supposed to be the chief law officer of Borno state. One of our concerns is- because it has now become very clear to Govenor Shettima that he has lost the trust and confidence of our people, he plans to use this illegal security outfit to rig the 2019 elections. We therefore, herby call on the president to instruct the police and the military to protect the constitutional rights of our people in exercising their free choice during the 2019 elections. Each time the governor’s actions were resisted by the citizens of Borno state, such citizens were beaten up by ‘Boyes’, and detained by the police at various police stations where many of them are still being held. The governor himself has often verbally threatened the lives of his major opponents. None of this will however deter us from standing by our people in such time of dear need. While we all welcome Mr President to our dear state we also expect him to call the governor to order. It is widely believed that the menace of Boko Haram has continued to persist in spite of the huge resources expended by the federal government through military operations. It is also clear that, what is now feeding the insurgency is directly connected to the deeds and misdeeds of the Borno state government. Some of these deeds and misdeeds include: • Throughout his 7 years as governor, no single person has been interviewed by the civil service commission and offered career employment. • There has been economic strangulation of the state through his direct labour financing of all capital projects in the state • Which is beneficial to only the governor and his cronies; • It is disheartening that, the grains and other food items donated to the IDPs by well-meaning philanthropists are now being used by the governor as campaign tools. Which he is dishing out to politicians instead of the IDPs. • While official Borno state government figures put the number of orphans in our state at over 52,000 and the number of widows at over 55,000. • Over 90% of the children of the poor have been out of school throughout his 7-year tenure. • And yet not a single mention has been made of these problems in his budgets throughout the 7 years he has been governor • We don’t regard it as a mere coincidence, the fact that although both Mohammed Yusuf the founder of Boko Haram and Shekau its current leader were from Yobe state remains peaceful — you can travel from Damaturu to Gaidam, Gashuwa, or Nguru even in the night. While you wouldn’t dare to move out of Maiduguri even by 2kilometers – the governor’s deeds and misdeeds have made Boko Haram endemic only in Borno state. The governor is obviously disturbed by the sudden shift of support in Borno state from the APC to the PDP. What the governor does not seem to realise is, it was because of the desperate hope of our people for the restoration of peace in Borno state, that they overwhelming voted for President Buhari in the last election. But because it is now clear that the restoration of peace has continued to allude all federal efforts, due mainly to the deeds and misdeeds of governor Shettima, that our people have overwhemingly decided to give PDP the chance in the 2019 elections. Being in a relationship with that special one with everything you have wished for is the pure bliss everyone would like to experience. While it’s easy to overlook superficial issues, but when it comes to financial red flags there are definitely some deal breakers. The truth remains that no one is perfect with money, neither is anyone born to be good or bad with money and it’s totally okay to have disagreements when it comes to our finances. But if we’re serious about taking our relationship to the next level that is marriage, then we really need to make the money talk a priority. Some of the red flags you should look out for are: Unpaid Loans Anything can happen that would require you or your partner to get a loan, and that is not a bad thing. What you would be concerned about should be finding out if your partner is repaying his loans or not and as at when due. What you would also want to look out for is how your partner manages his loans. You would like to ask if they are using the loan to solve the financial emergency they have or to do something else that is not as relevant If you want to make the relationship work you need to talk about the loan and figure out a way to tackle it together. Although one partner may have more loans than the other, it shouldn’t be treated separately, in the end, you’re in it together. Excessive spending Spending comes in many forms; some people prefer to buy new clothes and gadgets all the time while others may always offer to pay to pay since it makes them feel important. Even if they’re not putting things on loans, spending all their money is still a financial red flag. In some relationships, one partner will spend more and justify it because they earn more money. This is a terrible excuse since it creates a situation where one partner may feel that they aren’t equal in the relationship. If the amount of money your partner spends is a concern then you should probably have a civilized discussion about it so you can hopefully come to some kind of common ground. Can’t keep a job Losing a job is devastating, and it could happen to anyone. However when one losses a job are behavioral and not based on performance, then there is a problem. The reason one loss a job is more important an issue than the job itself. If it’s a legitimate reason such as layoff then there’s no real need to be concerned, but if your partner can’t seem to hold a job and is always blaming someone else for being let go, then there is a bigger issue at hand. For a peaceful relationship to happen, you need to be certain you can trust your partner with money issues. Financial red flags are a real thing, but they can be resolved as long as both partners are willing to address them together. However, if you both need professional advice and financial assistance, you could visit a Financial Institution for advice at no cost. Source: 3 Financial Red Flags in a Relationship |

By Egboka Ozioma “Diana!” mama yelled, hitting her exposed laps which where sprawled on the bed. “Diana!” mama called again, this time hysterically. Suddenly throwing her hands up, she swayed herself, bending low to gather her wrappers and stop them from revealing her ‘dross.’ “Mama wait nu, ya kwuri, don’t shout! ” Mama Aisha, our neighbor, cautioned her. Moving over to the bed where she lay, she observed her closely, touched her forehead, and her chest. “She’s warm! ” she announced, much to the relief of my mum and I. “Pour her water, ” I whispered, quite unsure of myself. “Hmm baabu mana, she’s pregnant, her baby will catch cold. “ I wondered if that was really true, it didn’t make sense… but does Diana’s long sleep make sense too? Nothing makes sense anymore. Just then Rasheed, our taxi driver neighbor rushed in. He had driven over quickly to take Diana and her seven-month pregnancy to the hospital. “Insha Allah, she’ll be fine! ” Mama Aisha said prayerfully, tapping my mama in an encouraging manner. “Amin Jesu, ” mama answered slowly, sniffing her nose as she struggled hard not to cry. “Amin Jesu, ” I whispered too. Slowly, I went over and held my mother, rocking her like a baby as she cried softly. “Amin Jesu, ” several others in the room chorused moodily,” Amin Jesu “ “Rebecca, call Amos. Let him… know his wife fainted, ” mama said to me, her voice breaking sorrowfully. Slowly, I stepped out to make the call. The kind which I never dreamed I would make in my life. “Hello, Uncle Amos… “ ⚫⚫⚫ Few months earlier Beautiful things make the heart rejoice. Such was the excitement that goshed through me when Diana called me that afternoon. “Rebe rebe! “ “Shoo, but sister, I told you na. I don’t want Rebe again na! ” I protested over the phone excitedly. Sister Diana as I called her, though a reserved conversationist, had few moments when excitement washed over her and overshadowed her quiet mien. Growing up, she had always called me Rebe instead of Rebecca even when she was angry, all my playful protest to remind her that I was no longer the sandal-eating, naked Rebe she carried as a baby, met her soft, quiet resistance. “I’m pregnant, ” announced, acting like she didn’t hear what I said. “Ehhh! You say? “ “Hahaha, you heard me na… I am pregnant, ” she sang it this time. “Haaa, sister Diana so fast? You’ve got no patience ooo. Uncle Amos is on fire! “ “Abeg abegi, ankali! I have to go; I don’t even have airtime! Without waiting for my response she cut the call. I understood, she and I were very close and so she had told me first. But, she would have to tell my mother. Smiling ruefully, I danced a little, and went ahead to the kitchen. Few months later, the call that came across greatly pierced our bubble of joy. I was still in the realm where you’re dreaming but still aware of your surroundings, that realm of being half asleep when my phone rang. I heard the sound like it came from a distant region. Reaching out like a zombie, still not fully awake, I pressed the answer button. “Diana is sick! “ Source: Diana’s Great Fight cc: lalasticlala mynd44
