Politics2024 Eid El Maulud: NOA Urges Sober Reflection by Orabi(op): 8:01pm On Sep 16, 2024
As the Muslim ummah join their global counterparts to mark Eid el Maulud, the National Orientation Agency (NOA), has called on Nigerians to use the celebration for sober reflection and prayers for the nation as the Present administration navigate through the economic challenges to deliver on the renewed hope agenda for the development of the country.

Director General of NOA, Mall. Lanre Issa- Onilu made the call in a message of felicitation to the Muslim faithful, noting that Nigeria was in dire need of citizens and leadership that will exemplify the virtues of selflessness, tolerance, peace, love and fairness; virtues he said the Prophet Mohammed displayed.

In a statement Deputy Director of Press, NOA, Paul Odenyi urged the Muslim ummah to rally its supplication to God for wisdom and guidance of President Ahmed Tinubu to take Nigeria to its place among the community of developed nations.

He further urged Nigerians to shun the temptation of using the public holiday to engage in any form of lawlessness, adding that the government has put necessary measures in place to ensure that the lives and properties of Nigerians are adequately protected during the holiday and beyond.

BusinessFix Ajaokuta Steel Company To Create Jobs For Youths, N’delta Youths Tell FG by Orabi(op): 4:50pm On Sep 13, 2024
The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council, has called on the Federal Government to revive the Ajaokuta Steel Company, plagued by alleged corruption and mismanagement, to create jobs and drive industrialization.

The Council called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to direct the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the issues and ensure the company's proper completion and operationalization.

The Council, in a statement by its President-General, Comrade Terry Obieh, criticized the severe lack of transparency in the management of funds and contracts related to Ajaokuta.

He noted that attempts to obtain details of spending and contracts have been met with obfuscation.

He said: “We, the patriotic citizens of the Federal Republic of Nigeria from the Niger Delta region, are concerned about the persistent neglect of the Ajaokuta Steel Company. This laudable project was built with the proceeds of oil and gas from the Niger Delta in the 70s.

“We can not afford to close our eyes as Niger Delta youths seeing this giant project lying waste for decades now. We hereby call on the Federal Government of Nigeria and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to beam their eagle eyes on the longstanding records of corrupt practices, financial mismanagement, and lack of accountability at the Ajaokuta Steel Company in Kogi State.

“The Ajaokuta Steel Company is a critical national asset that was established to drive industrialization and economic development in Nigeria. However, over the decades now, this project has been plagued by massive corruption, misappropriation of funds, and failure to complete construction and operationalize the plant.”

Obieh highlighted that numerous contract renegotiations have inflated the project's costs from an initial estimate of $1.5 billion to over $8 billion, with minimal results.

He added, “Repeated contract renegotiations and cost overruns: The project has seen numerous contract renegotiations over the years, leading to ballooning costs from the initial estimate of $1.5 billion to over $8 billion currently, with little to show for the investments.

“Lack of transparency and accountability: There has been a severe lack of transparency in the management of funds and contracts related to Ajaokuta. Repeated attempts to uncover the details of spending and contracts have been met with stonewalling and obfuscation.

“Allegations of corruption and misappropriation of funds: There have been widespread allegations of job racketeering, kickbacks, inflated contracts, and diversion of funds meant for the Ajaokuta project over the years. However, these allegations have not been properly investigated, and the culprits have not been held accountable.

“Failure to complete and operationalize the plant: Despite the enormous sums of money invested, the Ajaokuta Steel Company still remains incomplete and non-operational, depriving Nigeria of a critical industrial asset that could drive job creation and economic growth.

“The Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council, therefore, resolve that:The Federal Government should reinforce the Federal Executive Council's decision during the administration of former President Umaru Yar'Adua that the EFCC should prosecute the consortium handling the Ajaokuta Steel Company.

“The Federal Government should ignore the international arbitration on Ajaokuta Steel Company and order for the arrest of the owner of the Global Steel Holdings Ltd for a contract scam that led to that arbitration

“All the big sharks in the Federal Ministry of Steel Development, Federal Ministry of Justice, and the Ajaokuta Steel Company, cooking the mischievious international consortia contract negotiations and agreements MUST be fished out and brought to justice

“PlEFCC should conduct a comprehensive investigation into the corrupt practices, financial mismanagement, and lack of accountability that have plagued the Ajaokuta Steel Company project. The findings of this investigation should be made public, and those found culpable should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“We want to assure Nigerian youths that Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders Council will take any step necessary to follow up on this matter and ensure this giant company is completed.

“Furthermore, we call on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to direct the EFCC to probe the activities surrounding the Ajaokuta Steel Company and ensure the proper completion and operationalization of the Company, so that it can fulfill its potential as a driver of industrialization and economic development in Nigeria.”

PoliticsRebuild Arewa Initiative For Development Expresses Concern Over Flooding In Maid by Orabi(op): 8:10pm On Sep 12, 2024
The Rebuild Arewa Initiative for Development (RAID), a prominent socio-economic group dedicated to fostering development, peace, and security in the region, on Thursday, expressed deep concern over the recent flooding in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State.

In a statement issued by its Director of Strategic Communication and Publicity, Comrade Bitako Abubakar Umar, RAID described the flooding as a devastating blow to a region already struggling to recover from the impacts of insurgency.

They recommended that bordering villages and states take proactive measures to mitigate the impact of such events.

He said: “The situation is too devastating for the people and the region, which hasn't healed from the calamity of insurgency, is again hit by an upsurge of flooding.

“RAID commiserates with the good people of the state. Thereby calling on the federal government, North East Development Commission, National Emergency Management Agency, United Nations, Philanthropies, friends of Borno people and other Humanitarian Bodies to come to the aid of the people.

“Similarly, the Federal government should find a lasting solution to curb the recurrence of the situation particularly, that Cameroon Republic will soon open their Laddo Dam to reduce the volume of the water. Bordering Villages and states should provide measures for it to happen.”

The statement underscored the severity of the situation, emphasizing that the flooding exacerbates the suffering of the local population.
PoliticsFederal Govt Lauds NOA Contribution To National Unity, Cohesion by Orabi(op): 10:30am On Sep 12, 2024
The Federal government has commended the National Orientation Agency (NOA) for its vital contributions to promoting national unity, cohesion, and inclusiveness.

Its also announced the readiness to commence the implementation of the National Values Charter in line with the President's commitment to fostering moral, ethical, and cultural reawakening by instilling the right values, attitudes, and perspectives in the hearts and minds of all Nigerians.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, stated this in Abuja, while declaring open the expanded retreat of the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

He said: “NOA has become one of the most essential tools for shaping national narratives and conversations, promoting unity against a backdrop of diversity, and fostering a sense of inclusiveness and belonging in every part of the country.”

He praised the Director General, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, for adapting to the dynamics of public communication by leveraging technology to scale up public awareness and engagement with a feedback mechanism in keeping with the realities of the 21st century.

“I am very pleased to note that the NOA, under the leadership of Mr. Issa-Onilu, has prioritized technology in the work of the Agency, in keeping with the realities of the 21st century.

“The NOA has become one of the most technology-compliant agencies in Nigeria today, taking the lead in the deployment of digital tools and technologies like The Mobiliser App, as well as a well-received Artificial Intelligence platform for civic awareness and engagement, among other initiatives,” he said.

The Minister described the expanded retreat as a step in the right direction, which is envisioned to offer another opportunity to refine the vision and to redouble the effort of NOA towards advancing on a journey that has unlimited potential to shape the future of Nigeria.

He said the National Values Charter - one of the flagship initiatives of his ministry through the NOA, has been carefully crafted and designed to ensure that all Nigerians are fully aware of their rights and protections under the constitution and the laws of the land and that governments at all levels are equally aware of all the constitutionally-guaranteed obligations that they have to the citizenry.

In his address, the Director-General of NOA, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu, reflected on the agency’s progress over the past ten months.

He highlighted efforts to revamp the agency’s structures and platforms, a necessary step following years of neglect. "It's disheartening that such a vital institution was allowed to languish, but we are now on the path to rejuvenation," he said.

Issa-Onilu added that the demographic landscape of Nigeria had changed significantly since the MAMSER era, with 93% of the population now made up of youths under 45.

He noted that he has adjusted its strategies to effectively engage this younger demographic, which now dominates the new media landscape.

He acknowledged the vast difference in communication tools compared to 1991, stating, "The beats have changed; the dancing steps must adjust to the new rhythms.”

Issa-Onilu further explained that the NOA’s new approach involves a collaborative effort between the government and citizens, marking a departure from past practices.

The NOA boss added, “The need for a national value system that clearly defines a Nigeria's personality speaks to the psychological needs of the citizens, who must be emotionally connected to the country. This is what the National Values Charter seeks to achieve. Actual development cannot occur unless the citizens have a shared positive sentiment, and there cannot be a shared positive sentiment unless the country motivates the citizens' beliefs and patriotism.

“There are two significant differentiators between past and present endeavors. Firstly, the commitment is now a collaborative venture. Unlike in the past, when the country placed the burden solely on the citizens, this time, it is a shared responsibility between our nation and its citizens. Secondly, the current effort is not a fleeting government policy.

“It is meticulously designed with institutional structures for a lasting implementation, a testament to our collective dedication. At NOA, we have meticulously crafted seven value orientation programmes, each with a specific focus and purpose. This year, we are set to deploy four of these impactful programmes.

“We are excited about what is coming. NOA's enormous infrastructure across the country is being revived for optimal performance. Our focus in all of these is to institute a direct line of communication between the government and the citizens.

“NOA recognises the need to bridge the gap and establish an open dialogue with the public. Through some initiatives the NOA has recently taken, we seek to foster an interactive approach, allowing citizens to voice their concerns, provide feedback, and create parameters to hold both the leadership and the citizens.”
PoliticsMiddle Belt Solidarity League Slams Nlc's 'hypocritical' Stance On Ajaero's Rele by Orabi(op): 5:30pm On Sep 10, 2024
The Middle Belt Solidarity League (MBS), on Tuesday, condemned the Nigeria Labour Congress's (NLC) call for the release of its President, Joe Ajaero, and demand for reduced fuel prices, labeling it as ‘hypocritical’.

MBS criticized the NLC for remaining silent when fuel prices were increased to accommodate their demanded salary hikes.

In a statement, MBS Chairman Fidelis Riyom and Secretary Martha Bako called on all Nigerians of good conscience to oppose such actions, regardless of the individuals involved.

They said: “The NLC's sudden concern for fuel prices is a smokescreen for their true intentions protecting Ajaero from accountability for his treasonous activities. Their claim that the Department of State Services (DSS) is targeting labor leaders is baseless and a desperate attempt to shield Ajaero from justice.

“We declare as follows, Ajaero's involvement in providing a hideout for a foreigner to finance violent protests as part of a plot to overthrow the democratically elected government crosses the line into treason. His arrest by the DSS is necessary, timely, and demonstrates that no one is beyond the reach of justice.

“We call on the DSS to intensify its investigations and place under surveillance all suspected accomplices to this undemocratic plot. Justice must be swift, and those who dare violate the law of the land must face the full weight of the consequences.”

MBS condemned the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Mr. Festus Osifo, for his misguided attempt to obstruct the investigation of Joe Ajaero's treasonous activities.
PoliticsDSS Arrest Of Ajaero: A Necessary Step To Preserve National Stability by Orabi(op): 8:26pm On Sep 09, 2024
The Odua Peoples Assembly (OPA), fully supports the Department of State Services (DSS) in its lawful and necessary arrest of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) Chairman, Joe Ajaero.

They argue that the arrest is not only justified but crucial for safeguarding national integrity.

Deputy Speaker of the Odua Peoples Assembly, Hon. Adeyemi Olamide Shola, posed a pertinent question: “Since when does arresting a lawbreaker cause anarchy and is the law not supreme?’

“We therefore declare as follows, Ajaero’s involvement in providing a hideout for a foreigner to finance violent protests as part of a plot to overthrow the democratically elected government crosses the line into treason.

“His actions not only threaten Nigeria’s security but undermine the very foundations of our democracy. How can anyone expect leniency for such a serious offence? His position as NLC Chairman does not place him above the law

“Much like other culprits already in detention, Ajaero must face the consequences of his actions. To suggest he should be spared implies that he is untouchable, and this is unacceptable. His arrest by the DSS is necessary, timely, and demonstrates that no one is beyond the reach of justice. Those behind this foiled foreign-backed coup attempt must all be brought to justice, no exceptions.”

He urge the DSS to ignore Osifo's distractions and continue its thorough investigation, ensuring that all those involved in this heinous plot are brought to justice.

Shola added, “We call on the DSS to intensify its investigations and place under surveillance all suspected accomplices to this undemocratic plot. Nigeria’s peace and democracy can not be compromised by individuals seeking to serve foreign interests and politicization of labour matters destabilize our country.

“Justice must be swift, and those who dare violate the law of the land must face the full weight of the consequences.

“We at Oduaa Peoples Assembly call on all Nigerian men and women of good conscience to join the patriotic battle against reasonable elements, no matter how highly-placed. We insist that national stability is bigger than any individual and that the Rule of Law must not be compromised under our nation's democratic space.

“We are appalled by the misguided attempt of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President, Mr. Festus Osifo, to obstruct the investigation of Joe Ajaero's treasonous activities. His claims that the DSS is targeting labor leaders are baseless and a desperate attempt to shield Ajaero from accountability.

“The DSS investigation has nothing to do with TUC or labor matters, but rather a legitimate probe into a plot to overthrow the government. Osifo's interference is a clear indication that some labor leaders are more interested in protecting their own interests than upholding the law and national stability.”
PoliticsCNG Criticized NLC President Joe Ajaero For Exacerbating Situation by Orabi(op): 8:15am On Sep 06, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG) has strongly condemned the recent unjustifiable increase in fuel prices by the federal government.

Charanchi criticized the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for exacerbating the situation through the pursuit of its president Joe Ajaero personal interests, rather than addressing the root causes of Nigeria’s economic challenges.

Recall that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has raised the official pump price at its retail stations across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.

National Coordinator of CNG, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, in a statement,
calls on President Tinubu to heed the voices of the electorate, prioritize their welfare, and ensure that democratic values of accountability and transparency are upheld.

He said: “Let it be reminded that an increase in fuel prices is tantamount to creating artificial raises in prices of goods and services in the country because of the centrality of fuel to the economy and the domino effects that naturally resonate such jerk up.

“It is imperative to remind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu that Nigerians did not vote for the Group Managing Director of the NNPCL or any other unelected official. The people elected him as President, and it is expected that he governs with compassion, empathy, and a deep understanding of the hardships faced by ordinary Nigerians.

“We have credible reports indicating that in some states, fuel prices have already surged to an outrageous ₦1,400 per liter. This is unacceptable and a direct assault on the economic wellbeing of the masses, who are already grappling with soaring inflation, unemployment, and pervasive insecurity.”

The CNG warns that this reckless policy will have serious consequences for the Tinubu administration, as the trust and patience of the Nigerian people are wearing thin.

This price hike is devoid of any democratic consideration and reflects a disconnect between the government and the people.

Democracy, ideally, is supposed to be, in practice, a government of the people, by the people, and for the people. However, this policy of constant-fuel-price-raise is clearly anti-people and anti-democratic that spells doom for the administration and the remnant of any goodwill. If the government truly believes in the principles of democracy, it must urgently reconsider this policy and take immediate steps to retract to avert further suffering of the masses.

Undoubtedly, data from the government-owned National Bureau of Statistics and other authoritative organizations such as Food and Agriculture Organisation, World Bank and African Development Bank have confirmed that millions of Nigerians are deeply entangled in poverty and food insecurity which portend dire consequences for the country.

Hence, this latest stretching of Nigerians credulity will most certainly accentuate further breeding of multidimensional poverty and hunger which would not augur well for the country and the administration.

In the same vein, the CNG condemns the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) for contributing to the current avoidable circumstance through promotion of personal selfish interest of its President, Joe Ajaero for his political ends.

Nigerians may recall that the CNG had been cautioning in the last five years that salary increase without addressing underlying root causes of our woes will only aggravate our problems.

It may be recalled that on July 20, the CNG, in a press conference in Abuja warned that “We are skeptical of the federal government’s plan to further increase the fuel price in order to fund the new national minimum wage.

“We reject this plan and urge the government to explore humane and innovative alternatives such as reducing wasteful expenditure and the high cost of governance, tackling corruption, and increasing taxes on luxury goods to fund the minimum wage. Any wage increase that hikes the fuel price is self-defeating.”

The CNG had been vindicated with the current realities as it has been advocating for resuscitating government-owned refineries in Kaduna, Warri and Port Harcourt and pressuring the government to downsize running cost of governance, corruption in the system and prioritizing essential needs of the country but Ajaero-led NLC assumed their solo struggle for salary raise will address their woes.

It is unfortunate that the NLC had sacrificed foresight and vision to satisfy the desperation and personal aggrandizement of Ajaero who specializes in manipulation and playing with the peoples intelligence to quench his sundry ambitions.

Regrettably, it is Nigerians that are at the receiving end of the catastrophic outing of the NLC and the inhumane treatment from the Government through shouldering the burden of rooftop prices of goods and services as fuel had already crossed N1, 400 per litre in some places while basic grocery goods and essential food staples have gone up instantly.

Therefore, we call on President Tinubu to listen to the voices of the people who elected him, to prioritize their welfare, and to demonstrate that his administration is one that cares for the common man.

The CNG cautions that accountability, transparency, and evidence-based policies must not be jettisoned to be upheld as democratic values upon which our democracy should thrive better.
PoliticsDemocracy Watch Initiative Slams NLC President, Joe Ajaero Over Deceptive Leader by Orabi(op): 12:03pm On Sep 05, 2024
The Strategic Communication arm of the Democracy Watch Initiative has strongly criticized Joe Ajaero, President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), labeling him the most deceptive labour leader in Nigeria's history.

According to the Initiative, Ajaero's recent criticism of federal government policies is nothing more than a hollow performance aimed at misleading the public into believing he genuinely cares about their struggles. Nigerians, however, are not deceived.

The Director, Strategic Communication of the Democracy Watch Initiative, Dr. Tunji O Bamidele, highlights Ajaero’s attempt to deflect attention from his recent police invitation by linking it to his role in the NLC.

He said: “Let’s not forget that when civil society groups and political pressure organizations called on the NLC to join the End-Bad-Governance protests, Ajaero blatantly refused. He offered no cogent reason for his disinterest in the nationwide protests. His silence was deafening, and his refusal to stand with the people before, during tl and after the protest was a clear case of betrayal.

“Now, Ajaero has the audacity to issue a press statement filled with fake outrage and pretentious demands, condemning the government for increasing the pump price of PMS and other policies. Where was this outrage when Nigerians were being pushed to the brink? Where was this fire when the people needed a leader to galvanize the masses and stand up to the nationwide protest?

“Ajaero’s sudden concern is nothing more than a charade, a pathetic attempt to reclaim relevance after his cowardly silence during the protests.

“Even more laughable is his attempt to deflect attention from his recent invitation by the police. Ajaero would have us believe that this is somehow linked to his role in the NLC. But let’s be clear: the police’s interest in Ajaero stems from credible intelligence regarding a plot for regime change through the backdoor—not from his so-called leadership of the NLC.

“This is a matter between Ajaero and the Nigeria Police Force, and he should not attempt to hang it on the NLC or hide behind the organization to escape accountability.

“Ajaero’s hypocrisy knows no bounds. He speaks of betrayal by the government, but what greater betrayal is there than a labour leader who abandons his constituents when they need him most? His history of deceitful antics, his insincerity, and his lack of genuine commitment to the struggles of the Nigerian people are well known. The NLC under his leadership has been reduced to a toothless body, issuing empty statements instead of leading the charge for real change.

“Nigerians must see through Ajaero’s facade. His sudden outburst is nothing but a desperate bid to salvage his tarnished image. But the people deserve better than a leader who only pretends to care when it suits him, a leader who is more interested in maintaining his own position than in fighting for the rights and welfare of the working class.

“The fight for justice, equity, and good governance must continue, but it must be led by those who have proven themselves to be consistent, courageous, and genuinely committed. Not by those who, like Ajaero, are all too willing to abandon the cause when the going gets tough. Ajaero’s legacy will not be one of leadership but of betrayal, and history will not be kind to him.”
PoliticsMinimum Wage: CDDN Reject NLC, Ajaero’s Attempt To Manipulate Nigerians Sentimen by Orabi(op): 4:03pm On Sep 04, 2024
The Citizens for Democratic Dividends in Nigeria (CDDN), has rejected the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and its President, Joe Ajaero's attempts to deceive and manipulate public sentiment over minimum wage.

It also described the claims of betrayal made by Ajaero and the NLC as an insult to Nigerians' intelligence and an exploitation of public grievances for personal gain.

CDDN, in a statement by its Executive Director, Comrade Ahmad Musa Idris, rejects any maneuver by Ajaero or the NLC to drag Nigerians into covering up Ajaero's alleged terrorism charges and his efforts to manipulate the truth.

Idris, criticized Ajaero's recent statements, where he claims that the government betrayed the labor movement by failing to honour a supposed agreement on a ₦70,000 minimum wage without a corresponding increase in fuel prices, are nothing but a desperate ploy to garner sympathy and deflect attention from his own criminal charges.

CDDN recalls that NLC and Ajaero openly recently betrayed the Nigerian people when they were desperate for their salary increase without taking cognizance of the plight of millions of ordinary people.

He said: “Ajaero’s sudden outcry, after months of inaction, is not only sad but also a testament to his disregard for the true interests of the Nigerian people.

“When Nigerians were facing unbearable hardship and called for nationwide protests, Ajaero and the NLC turned a blind eye. They refused to participate in the protests, prioritizing their minimum wage agreement over the suffering of millions of Nigerians.

“Now, faced with accusations of treason and alleged involvement in a plot to overthrow the government, Ajaero seeks to drag the NLC and the Nigerian people into his personal legal battles. This is a clear attempt to use the labour movement as a shield to escape justice.

“The CDDN categorically states that Joe Ajaero must carry his cross alone. Nigerians will not be deceived by his tactics. It is evident that Ajaero is not acting in the best interests of the Nigerian people but is instead using their genuine grievances as a smokescreen to protect himself from prosecution.

“The Nigeria Police's accusation of treason against Ajaero is a serious matter that must be addressed in court, and the NLC should not be used as a pawn in this dangerous game by Ajaero whose interest and that of the downtrodden that need real salvation are in dissonance.”

The CDDN calls on Nigerians to remain vigilant and resist being manipulated by those who exploit genuine public grievances for personal advantage.

The organization pledges to continue advocating for justice, transparency, and the democratic dividends that Nigerians rightfully deserve.
PoliticsNortheast Unity Forum Condemns Wike’s Political Banditry, Calls For His Sack As by Orabi(op): 11:24am On Sep 03, 2024
The Northeast Unity Forum (NUF), on Tuesday, condemned the ‘brazen’ political banditry displayed by Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

Wike’s recent threats against governors of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who support Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his threat to unleash crises in various states clearly demonstrate his dangerous bandit-inclined disposition and thuggish orientation, which have no place in a civilized and democratic society.

The Convener of NUF, Abubakar kabir, in a statement, said that contends that Wike has lost touch with reality and has become a political outcast in Rivers politics after Governor Fubara purged him away from, and denied him access to, the state’s resources.

Thus, it is imperative that if Wike has an iota of decency and common sense, he should be in retrospect and reflect on his political blunders, betrayals, and the unnecessary crises he has instigated, which are swiftly eroding his remaining political relevance. He has become a political liability, embroiled in a crisis of relevance and identity, exposing him as a political scabbard devoid of a bayonet in his home state of Rivers.

His ingratitude to those who mentored and supported him is a clear indication of his treacherous nature. Wike’s political history is marred by betrayal and disloyalty.

He has shamelessly turned his back on his benefactors and political godfathers—Rotimi Amaechi, who elevated him from obscurity into main politics of Rivers state; Goodluck Jonathan, who appointed him as a minister and brought him to national prominence; and Patience Jonathan, who stood by him unwaveringly. Wike’s actions are a blatant betrayal of those who helped him rise to power, showcasing his true nature as a treacherous and ungrateful politician.

Furthermore, Wike’s repeated antiparty activities, including his open support for candidates outside the PDP, have completely exposed his hypocrisy, violation of party loyalty, indiscipline, and his narcissistic desperation for personal ambition over the collective good of the people and his party.

The NUF argues that his threats to “put fire in the states” of governors supporting Fubara are not only reckless but also a direct assault on the peace and stability of our nation. His declaration that governors interfering in Rivers State “will never sleep in your state” is a dangerous provocation that threatens the very fabric of our democracy and national stability. Such inflammatory rhetoric is unbecoming of a public official and cannot be tolerated.

Therefore, the NUF demands the immediate sack of Nyesom Wike as the FCT Minister. His actions have demonstrated that he is unfit to hold any public office, let alone one as significant as the FCT Minister.

President Tinubu must choose between upholding the rule of law, decency, and common sense or aligning with an irredeemably compromised politician like Wike, who is determined to create violence and instability to remain in the public limelight to the detriment of Nigeria’s interests.

Similarly, the PDP leadership must act decisively to sanction Wike and restore discipline and order within their party. Through this, the party will uphold the principles of democracy, unity, and loyalty, which are the bedrock of any political system.

It is entirely justifiable to tame Wike’s political hooliganism after he has exposed himself as a self-serving and unprincipled politician struggling to foment chaos to reclaim his lost relevance.

Nigeria’s democracy depends on our collective ability to reject such dangerous individuals and uphold the principles of justice, respect, restraint and integrity without giving chance to characters that are charlatans.
PoliticsCNG Slams Wike's Bandit-like Threats Against Bauchi State, Warns Of Dire Consequ by Orabi(op): 11:55am On Sep 02, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Group (CNG), condemns in the strongest terms the disgraceful and thuggish threats issued by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against Bauchi State.

His recent bandit-like outburst on live television is a stark reminder of the dangerous and unrefined attitude he has consistently displayed in his political career. It is shocking and deeply unfortunate that a figure of such notorious repute holds a position in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government.

CNG, in a statement by its national Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, said Wike’s behavior is not only an affront to the people of Bauchi State but also a direct challenge to the peace and stability of Northern Nigeria.

The CNG wishes to make it clear that we do not take such threats lightly. No one has a monopoly on thuggery or intimidation. We are fully prepared to confront Wike and anyone who believes they can bully or destabilize our region.

It is a tragedy for Nigeria that individuals with such a glaring lack of respect for the rule of law and civil discourse are appointed to high offices in our Federal Government. Wike's actions have embarrassed the Tinubu administration and sullied the image of responsible governance.

We call on President Tinubu to urgently reconsider the inclusion of such volatile and unrefined elements in his government. The Nigerian people deserve leaders who will work towards unity and stability, not those who would threaten it with their bandit-like tactics.

The CNG remains steadfast in our commitment to defending Northern Nigeria against any form of aggression or intimidation, and we are ready to respond with equal force to any threat posed by Wike or his ilk.
PoliticsNOA NESREA Partner To Promote Environmental Awareness, Regulation by Orabi(op): 10:14am On Aug 29, 2024
Arising from the danger of persistent abuse of the environment and general lack of awareness about regulations, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) and the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency (NESREA) have agreed to work together to promote regulations that will help to preserve the environment.

This was the outcome of a meeting between the Chief Executives of the two agencies held at the NOA headquarters where Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, DG of NOA said the Agency will leverage its national footprint and expertise to ensure massive awareness of environmental regulations and standards.

For him, the poor awareness about the ban on the use of plastics in the country exemplify the general lack of environmental education which require urgent action to solve. “How many of our people know about the policy on the use of platics in Nigeria. This shows that we need massive education on the environment and your regulations.

“All our advocacy on environmental issues, climate change require that we create awareness, environmental education so that those who do not keep to our regulation can be said to be deviants. The level of ignorance about preserving the environment is massive”

NOA, in statement by its Deputy Director of Press, Paul Odenyi, outlined the Agency’s platforms which can be deployed in the campaign to raise awareness, impart environmental education and seek attitudinal change towards solving the problem of abuse of the environment in Nigeria. These platforms include the online and offline tools many of which were developed in the last ten months and are being deployed to cater for the fast changing media consumption patterns in the country.

The Director General of NESREA Dr. Innocent Barikor who was accompanied by some of his top management officers said they were seeking collaboration with NOA to accomplish the following.

“To ensure that NOA structure becomes available for creating awareness and environment education for all citizens. To share with the NOA our concern for the endangered specie, especially the flora and fauna which are rare animals and plants in Nigeria which require protection.

“Promote Environment Education. Enlighten the public on the subsisting ban of platics use in Nigeria. Data Collection and research to promote environmental consciousness that can help deal with the problem of carbonisation and climate change.

“At the end of the meeting, it resolved to set up a joint committee to work out the implementation strategy for the partnership.”

PoliticsEmir Of Gobir Death: Rebuild Arewa Initiative For Development Demand Action, Acc by Orabi(op): 5:09pm On Aug 23, 2024
The Rebuild Arewa Initiative For Development (RAID) and the Northern Consensus Movement (NCM), has condemned the heinous abduction and murder of His Highness Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Emir of Gobir, urging governors in the northern region to wake up to their responsibilities.

They called on the federal government to evolve new strategies to secure lives and properties, noting that Nigeria cannot grow under the current conditions.

President of RAID, Comrade Balarabe Rufai, disclosed this in Abuja, at the press briefing, observed with dismay the wanton killings of innocent citizens and Traditional Rulers in the region by criminal elements and called for more proactive measures from security agencies to harken to their duties of protecting lives and properties of the citizenry.

While advocating for peace, unity, and development of this region, they condemned this act and also felt disappointed in how the Sokoto State Government handled the matter lackadaisical and unprofessionally which led to the killing of the monarch.

The group urged the Minister of Defense, State Minister of Defense, and heads of security organizations to double their efforts in restoring security in the north.

Rufai said: “We in RAID, NCM and the entire Northern Nigeria are highly disappointed with the Government of Sokoto State.

“As the chief security officer of the State, he demonstrated poor capacity in protecting the Royal father who jealously served his people and state for more than 40 years.

“We also observe with dismay the wanton killings of innocent Citizens and Traditional Rulers in the region by criminal elements and call for more proactive measures from Security Agencies to harden their duties of protecting lives and properties of the citizenry.

“We are calling on some Governors in the region to as a matter of utmost priority treat insecurity as their top agenda of governance; States such: Niger, where farmers farmlands are now shared with bandits, Taraba State, where many Chiefs have been killed by bandits.

“The recent one was the killing of the Chief of Chanchangi ‘Chief of Chamber’ in Takum Local Government; Katsina State, where an SA to Governor and his wife were killed by some bandits; Zamfara State, where our gallant Soldiers were ambushed, killed and vehicles burnt down to mention but a few.

“We say without mincing words that enough of the killings of our traditional fathers in Northern Nigeria and Nigeria at large. We frowned at that. We would not relent in our community engagement to curtail these heinous activities being perpetrated.

“Insecurities and killings of innocent citizens have kept on growing, unabated as if there's no existence of government in place.”

The group condemned the killings of traditional rulers, stating that "enough is enough" and vowed to continue community engagement to curtail the heinous activities.

Also speaking, the National president of Nineteen Seventeen Northern Consensus Movement For Peace Unity Empowerment and Development Initiative (NSNCM), Awwal Abdullahi Aliyu, called on the federal government to evolve new strategy to securing lives and properties of the citizenry as Nigerian Nation can't grow under such conditions, bedeviled by the continuous killing of citizens by criminal elements,

They called on the federal government and the state governments to fast track the autonomy of our local government areas so that the local government administrators can assist in curbing the excessive criminality and criminal tendencies at the grassroots.

PoliticsCNG Condemns Abduction, Killing Of Gobir Emir Alh Isa Muhammad Bawa by Orabi(op): 6:11pm On Aug 22, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), has condemned the abduction and brutal murder of His Highness Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Emir of Gobir.

The coalition said that the tragic incident is a severe assault on both the esteemed traditional institution and the moral fabric of our society. Such acts are intolerable and must never be repeated.

CNG, in a statement by its National Coordinator, Comrade Jamilu Aliyu Charanchi, also condemns Sokoto State Government for its despicable, nonchalant and lackadaisical attitude toward the handling of the plight of the late emir which led to the unfortunate murder in the hand of the bandits.

The CNG also expresses profound empathy for all affected families and individuals. For those still in captivity, the Coalition prays for their swift and safe return from the clutches of bandits.

Charanchi said: “This depicts manifest incompetence and utter demonization of our cultural and religious heritage from the Government that is supposed to promote preservation of our tradition and pedigree.

“The CNG is deeply concerned that the Government has failed to prioritize the security and well-being of its people, instead choosing to entangle security issues and traditional institutions in the web of political maneuvering.”

The CNG notes that the governor must confine politics to its proper domain and refrain from extending it to critical areas such as security and the preservation of our royal institutions. It is apparent that the government is placing politics above governance and, more disturbingly, above the lives of the people.

The CNG observes that the governor has clearly surrendered the monarch to the bandits particularly after the emergence of the emir’s video in the most dehumanized and humiliated manner pleading for his life and freedom only for the governor to turn a blind eye. The consequent carefree of the government depicts the highest form of irresponsibility that even an animal kingdom can envy.

The CNG decries that although there were incidents of abductions of traditional rulers particularly in Zamfara, this abominable murder remains the most devastating that has sunk the collapse of our security into the ditch of despair.

The CNG extends its heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the emirate and good people of Gobir; to the good people of Sokoto; to the Sokoto Sultanate and the Sultan; to the traditional institutions and the entire people of northern Nigeria and the country at large. This is a colossal loss that pains throughout our nation and serves as a reminder on the urgent need for decisive action.

The CNG further expresses its deepest commiseration to all the people and their families who have been killed, victimized or affected by the senseless murders. We sympathize and empathize with all and sundry in these difficult moments in our history as a people.

“For those still languishing in the bandits’ den, it is absolutely repugnant with human civility for anyone to live under such cruel circumstances. We pray that May Almighty God would save them from captivity across a varied vast expanse of criminal hideouts in the North."

The CNG strongly charges the Police, the Department of State Security (DSS) and other relevant security personnel to thoroughly investigate allegations against Hon. Aminu Boza of being the sponsor of the abduction and the murder of the monarch.

This is necessary to unravel the truth behind the allegation and hold those responsible accountable. Hon. Boza must be interrogated alongside his close associates to establish or refute the claim that purportedly emanated from the bandits.

The CNG calls on governments at all levels to recommit themselves to genuinely addressing the security challenges that have plagued our region and rendered us hopeless. The protection of lives and property must be the top priority, and every effort must be made to restore peace and stability to our communities.
PoliticsProminent Islamic Cleric Blames Zamfara Governor Lawal For Rise In Banditry, Abs by Orabi(op): 1:37pm On Aug 20, 2024
An Islamic cleric, Sheik Abdulrahaman Azzamfari, on Tuesday, accused Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal, for his alleged failure to effectively respond to the persistent threat of armed banditry, leaving innocent civilians to bear the brunt of the devastating consequences.

Azzamfari has drawn a stark comparison between the current administration's approach and that of the previous governor, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, asserting that Lawal's governance lacks the necessary courage and resolve to combat the wave of violence effectively.

In a series of scathing video statements, the prominent cleric posited that bandits have sensed a power vacuum in the government, leading to an escalation in their attacks on vulnerable communities.

He noted that just in one year of the Lawal administration, Zamfara State, particularly Tsafe Local Government Area, is facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis fueled by a complex interplay of insecurity, agricultural disruption, and socio-economic turmoil.

The cleric lamented that the State's Governor Lawal appears to have either underestimated the severity of the crisis or has been living in isolation or in total denial or woefully ill-informed about the realities on the ground.

Azzamfari said: “Governor Lawal's approach has lacked the necessary courage and resolve to combat banditry effectively and that Lawal has clearly failed to exhibit the urgency required to address the wave of violence, which has tragically resulted in more deaths, destruction of property, and widespread displacement in just one year than what was witnessed throughout Matawalle's four-year tenure.

“This stark comparison places significant scrutiny on Lawal's governance and raises questions about the strategies employed to ensure public safety in a state that has long suffered from the scourge of violent crime.”

The cleric posited that bandits have sensed a power vacuum in the government. With the absence of a decisive response to their activities, these criminal elements have felt emboldened, leading to an escalation in their attacks on vulnerable communities.

Azzamfari highlights a fundamental aspect of governance: the necessity for a strong and resolute leadership that prioritizes the protection of its citizens.

The Sheikh added, “In just one year of the Governor Lawal administration, Zamfara State, particularly Tsafe Local Government Area, is currently facing an unprecedented humanitarian crisis fueled by a complex interplay of insecurity, agricultural disruption, and socio-economic turmoil.

“In the eastern forest regions, where farming is a way of life, the conflict has rendered many agricultural lands untenable, jeopardizing the livelihoods of countless families. The serenity of the lush forest that connects the Giwa and Maradun regions has been supplanted by turmoil, pushing communities into a desperate state of existence.

“The recurrence of violence and lawlessness in Zamfara has created a paradoxical environment where the act of farming has become a treacherous undertaking. Although farmers have cultivated their lands, they face insurmountable challenges in harvesting their crops, risks that include violent reprisals from extremist groups that are reportedly operating with impunity.

“The farming prohibition imposed on refugees exacerbates an already dire situation, as those who seek solace in agricultural endeavors are met with hostility and potential retribution.”

He lamented that the State’s leadership, particularly the governor who is the chief security officer, appears to have either underestimated the severity of the crisis or has been leaving in isolation or in total denial or woefully ill-informed about the realities on the ground.

He said reports suggest that individuals have been reduced to conditions akin to slavery, trapped in a cycle of hunger and poverty with little to no assistance from the government tasked with their protection. In a region where food security has been shattered, basic necessities become luxuries, pushing many to the brink of survival.

Azzamfari stressed the pressing need for reconciliation among warring factions and societal groups within Zamfara because the very fabric that sustains these communities is fraying under the weight of violence and mistrust, which has been exacerbated by a growing culture of fear. Notably, Islamic clergy who advocate for reconciliation are subjected to threats and violence, illustrating a profound disregard for constructive dialogue. It is alarming to consider that the Ulama—figures vital to community development—are marked for elimination simply for espousing peace.

He lamented further that the setting up of volunteer forces by governor Lawal to enforce compliance with state policies raises ethical concerns. While the intent may be to restore order, empowering vigilante groups, especially in a volatile setting, only worsens the cycle of violence and further alienate the affected communities. A sustainable and peaceful resolution cannot be achieved through fear tactics or violent reprisals; it must involve strategic dialogue that incorporates all stakeholders, including the marginalized voices of the affected populace.

He advised that to begin mending the torn fabric of Zamfara, the government must prioritize open channels of communication and community engagement. It must also ensure that humanitarian aid reaches those in desperate need, establishing safe conditions under which farming can resume. Acknowledge the farmers, traders, and families who have persevered through adversity despite the odds stacked against them.

He warned that the current dependencies on violence and intimidation can lead only to further despair. It is imperative that the government not only acknowledges the reality of the situation but also actively engages in reconciliation efforts that restore hope and security for all residents.

The path forward must be paved with collaboration, empathy, and a firm commitment to rebuilding shattered lives and communities. Only then can the people of Zamfara reclaim their dignity and emerge from this disaster with resilience and strength.
PoliticsArewa Citizens Action For Good Leadership Demands Investigation, Prosecution by Orabi(op): 1:08pm On Aug 17, 2024
The Arewa Citizens Action for Good Leadership (ACAGL), strongly condemn the recent protests and bloodshed that marred the demonstrations and call for a thorough investigation and prosecution into the circumstances surrounding these events.

The group’s spokesperson, Saeed Sulaiman Umar, criticized the violence and destruction that tainted the demonstrations, which resulted in substantial economic losses in Kano.

Umar said: “We wish to address the recent national protests that took place across Nigeria, during which alarming developments have come to light.

“Our organization, having prudently withdrawn from participation in the protests due to concerns over potential hijacking by criminal elements, has now been vindicated as our worst fears have been confirmed.

“ACAGL strongly rebukes the looting and vandalization of public and private properties and businesses that took place in Kano which costs the states and its good people losses worth billions of naira.

“This is one of many fears that forced ACAGL to earlier announce withdrawal from the protest although there were many genuine people who simply wanted to register their complaints to authorities.

“Similarly, reports have emerged of protesters in Kano and other states waving the flags of a foreign country. This troubling act raises serious questions about the underlying motivations and influences propelling some protesters. Such behavior not only undermines the legitimacy of genuine grievances but also suggests a deeper, more insidious agenda aimed at destabilizing our nation.

“We have also learned that the accounts of certain individuals and groups alleged to have sponsored these protests have been frozen by the authorities. This action is a significant step towards uncovering the truth about the orchestrators behind these demonstrations. However, it is only the beginning, and much more needs to be done to safeguard our nation from both internal and external threats."

In light of these developments, ACAGL hereby makes the following demands:

We call for a total and comprehensive investigation into the roles played by foreign interests and their collusion with certain Nigerian elements in infiltrating the protests and the display of foreign flags. The involvement of external forces in our national affairs is a serious breach of sovereignty that must not be tolerated.

ACAGL concurs that the accounts that have been frozen must be meticulously scrutinized. Should the owners of these accounts be found guilty of supporting terrorism or engaging in activities that undermine the security and stability of Nigeria, they should face the full weight of the law. Such individuals are betrayers of our country and must be held accountable and responsible for their actions.

We demand the diligent prosecution of those found guilty of conspiring with foreign entities to disrupt the peace and unity of Nigeria. This should serve as a deterrent to others who may harbor similar intentions in the future. Nigeria cannot and will not allow itself to be a battleground for foreign interests.

The ACAGL remains committed to the pursuit of good governance, justice, and the protection of interest of Nigerians especially at grassroots. The recent protests, and the disturbing revelations that have followed, underscore the need for vigilance and decisive action in the face of threats to our national unity.

We urge all Nigerians to stand firm in defense of our country and to reject any attempts by foreign or domestic actors to sow discord among us. The interests of Nigerian and Nigerians are paramount, and we must collectively work to preserve it without surrendering our sovereignty to any foreign interest.
PoliticsArewa Integrity League Exposes Matawalle's New Smear Campaign Against Gov Dauda by Orabi(op): 4:23pm On Aug 16, 2024
The Arewa Integrity League, has accused Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle of orchestrating a deliberate media smear campaign targeting key political figures.

The group claims that Matawalle has manipulated false reports to falsely implicate Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, former NSA Aliyu Gusau, and Defence Minister Badaru in criminal activities allegedly tied to his former aide, Bashir Hadeja.

Spokesman of the group, Comrade Musa Garba, in a statement, emphasized that Hadeja’s involvement in a recent family dispute within Matawalle’s household raises further suspicions about the Minister’s motives.

Garba said: “Matawalle stands accused of orchestrating a false report linking Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal Dare, former NSA Aliyu Gusau, and Defence Minister Badaru to the alleged criminal activities of his former aide, Bashir Hadeja.

“Bashir, who for many years managed Matawalle's Gold mining site deals in Zamfara as his Special Assistant, was recently embroiled in a Matawalle family feud. This context raises suspicions about Matawalle's motives.”

The group noted that Matawalle has been at loggerheads with Governor Dare and former NSA Gusau for years, with tensions escalating in recent weeks. By roping in Defence Minister Badaru, Matawalle aimed to create confusion and falsely implicate him in the scandal.

He said that Matawalle's cheap media antics are well-known and are using Hadeja's case to settle scores with his political enemies and drag down others to cover his tracks.

The group warned Nigerians to be cautious of Matawalle's misinformation tactics, exposing his plan to use Hadeja's situation to tarnish the reputations of his adversaries.

It added that the former NSA Gusau is “More sophisticated, beyond Matawalle's smear campaign and no Nigerian would believe Matawalle's media campaign against the man.

“As for governor Lawal Dare, it is obvious that Matawalle is uncomfortable that the current governor is doing his best to rescue the state from Matawalle's destructive legacies. This expose aims to set the record straight and alert the public to Matawalle's smear campaign.”
PoliticsInternational Conspiracy: $50,000 Blackmail Plot Targeting Matawalle Aims To Des by Orabi(op): 2:07pm On Aug 12, 2024
By Suleiman Abbah

The revelation by Ambassador Abdul Danbature of a $50,000 blackmail plot against Nigeria's Defence Minister Bello Mohammed Matawalle has sent shockwaves across the nation. This disturbing report, originally brought to light by the Pacific News Times, exposes a dangerous scheme aimed at undermining Nigeria's national security by tarnishing the reputation of a key government official.

The earlier emergence of a video featuring a notorious bandit leader making baseless allegations against Minister Matawalle, coupled with the timing of these allegations in conjunction with the foiled #Endbadgovernance protests, paints a grim picture of an orchestrated campaign intended to destabilize the North and weaken the federal government's machinery.

Danbature's disclosure that the financial inducement was offered to tarnish the image of a senior government official suggests a meticulously planned campaign with potentially dire consequences. The ambitious offer to assassinate the character and reputation of a key defense figure within the Nigerian government is emblematic of a troubling trend of international interference in the country's internal affairs.

The context surrounding this blackmail plot suggests a more comprehensive agenda at play, drawing connections between the alleged smear campaign and strategic socio political events transpiring in Nigeria's northern region. The correlation between these events and the presence of media narratives featuring unsubstantiated accusations against Minister Matawalle hints at a local conspiracy with the potential involvement of international collusion.

This revelation highlights the vulnerability of Nigeria's political system to external interference and manipulation. It raises questions about the integrity and security of the country's government officials and institutions. If a Defence Minister can be targeted for blackmail, what other key figures in the government are at risk of being compromised?

The implications of this blackmail plot go beyond just one individual or ministry. It speaks to broader issues of corruption, influence-peddling, and foreign interference in Nigeria's political landscape. It raises concerns about the extent to which the country's sovereignty and national security are being threatened by external actors seeking to manipulate and control key decision-makers.

The fact that the offer came through a local intermediary suggests that there may be domestic collaborators involved in this nefarious scheme. This raises questions about the extent to which corruption and collusion are undermining the integrity of Nigeria's political system and eroding public trust in the government.

Ambassador Abdul Danbature's decision to expose this blackmail plot takes courage and integrity. It demonstrates a commitment to transparency, accountability, and the rule of law. It sends a strong message that such attempts to undermine Nigeria's national security will not go unchallenged and that those responsible will be held accountable.

The involvement of external actors in Nigeria's internal affairs is a cause for concern and requires a coordinated response from the government, law enforcement, and security agencies. It is essential to identify the individuals and entities behind this blackmail plot and to take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The ongoing machinations aimed at disrupting the relationship between the President and Matawalle serve as a reminder of the complex interplay of power, loyalty, and influence in Nigerian politics. The Minister’s steadfast defense of the President’s ideals highlights not only his indispensable role within the administration but also underscores the threats felt by those who perceive his growing influence as a challenge.

The engagement of foreign collaborators in this political tug-of-war signifies more than mere transactional politics; it reflects a deep-seated anxiety among self-appointed adversaries of President Bola Tinubu. These individuals perceive the Matawalle's growing influence and proximity to the President as a direct challenge to their aspirations and agendas. In a political landscape that is fraught with volatility, the Minister emerges as a singularly indomitable force, showcasing not only loyalty but also a nuanced understanding of the complexities involved in governance.

Indeed, Matawalle's ability to cross these treacherous waters, marked by both external pressures and internal dissent, positions him as a crucial bulwark against the multitude of storms that threaten Tinubu and the administration. His unwavering support for the President’s ideals, coupled with a strategic vision for the future of Nigeria, illustrates why he is increasingly seen as the only reliable figure amidst a cacophony of competing interests. This reality is particularly disconcerting for those who feel their political capital waning in light of the Minister’s ascendancy.

Moreover, the deliberate attempts to create rifts between the President and Matawalle seem to stem from an understanding that collaboration between these key figures is essential for reinforcing governance and addressing the myriad challenges facing Nigeria today. The Minister’s role in fortifying this collaboration and enhancing the President’s support base cannot be overstated. His commitment to the President’s agenda reflects a rare blend of political acumen and visionary leadership, qualities that his detractors find increasingly threatening.

As Nigeria navigates its multifaceted challenges, the Minister's position as a reliable ally of the President will undoubtedly continue to play a pivotal role in shaping the country’s political landscape and ensuring that Tinubu's ideals of governance are effectively promoted and defended.

The timing of this revelation, during a period of heightened political sensitivity, indicates that there are concerted efforts to destabilize Nigeria's leadership and create chaos and confusion. It is imperative that the government remains vigilant and takes proactive steps to safeguard the country's national security and protect its key officials from external threats.

The fact that a foreign source was willing to offer such a significant sum of money to compromise the Defence Minister's credibility underscores the lengths to which some actors are willing to go to achieve their nefarious objectives. It is a stark reminder of the dangers posed by external interference in Nigeria's political affairs and the need for constant vigilance and decisive action to counter such threats.

As Nigeria's political environment grows increasingly complex, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu must remain vigilant and proactive in countering destabilizing maneuvers aimed at undermining the government. Collaboration with international partners who share a vested interest in maintaining peace and stability in Nigeria is crucial. It is imperative for the international community to respect Nigeria's sovereignty and support its government in upholding law and order.

The issue of national integrity and security is of paramount importance for Nigeria, a nation facing numerous internal and external threats to its stability and democratic order. Nigeria's unity and security are constantly under strain from various sources - an insurgency and banditry in the North, ethnic and communal tensions, secessionist agitations, and the infiltration of criminal elements. Robust and proactive measures are absolutely necessary to confront the forces of destabilization and safeguard the principles of democracy, peace, and good governance.

Decisive action is required to neutralize these threats and reaffirm the government's capacity to protect its people. Crucially, this effort must involve a united national front, with all arms of government, security agencies, and the general public working in concert. Divisive partisanship or sectarian loyalties have no place when the very foundations of the Nigerian state are at risk.

Politicians, community leaders, and opinion-shapers must rise above narrow interests and rally the populace around the common cause of preserving the country's territorial integrity and social cohesion. Beyond the domestic front, Nigeria also requires the understanding and support of the international community.

As the most populous country in Africa and a regional powerhouse, Nigeria's stability is intrinsically linked to the peace and security of the entire sub-Saharan region. A destabilized Nigeria would have dire consequences, from exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in neighboring countries to fueling the scourges of human trafficking and irregular migration.

Therefore, Nigeria's bilateral and multilateral partnerships must be anchored in the principles of mutual respect for sovereignty, the promotion of peace, and adherence to international legal norms. While the international community has a legitimate role to play in encouraging democratic reforms and upholding human rights, its interventions should not be employed to undermine Nigeria's legitimate efforts to restore law and order.
Peaceful protests are a constitutional right, but violence and destruction of public property cannot be tolerated in the name of protest. Ultimately, the defense of Nigeria's national integrity and security is a responsibility that transcends partisan politics or ideological divides. It requires a comprehensive strategy that combines robust law enforcement, intelligence-gathering, and conflict resolution mechanisms with a unifying national narrative that resonates with all Nigerians.

Only through such a concerted effort can the country overcome the specter of chaos and uphold the democratic aspirations of its people.
PoliticsGroup Accuses PDP Lawmaker Of Undermining Tinubu Government by Orabi(op): 11:45am On Aug 12, 2024
APC Diaspora group has accused the member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato North/South federal constituency of Imo State, Hon Ikenga Ugochinyere of undermining the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The group alleged that Ugochinyere of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is rallying opposition forces in the country in preparation for the 2027 general elections.

“Some members in the House of Representatives are concerned at the subtle campaign currently embarked upon by the opposition legislator - Ugochinyere - to target the petroleum sector and portray the APC-led federal administration officials supervising the sector as complicit in the alleged maladministration of the sector,” the group said.

The group said “Last Friday, he led five other members to meet with former President Olusegun Obasanjo in Abeokuta where the former leader openly charged the legislators to work towards a reformed Nigeria where the country is transparently and efficiently run.

“Ugochinyere had explained that the lawmakers were in Abeokuta to confer with the former President on a wide range of national issues and to also express their solidarity with the former President and equally learn from his fountain of extensive knowledge on development and good governance especially at this challenging times.

“He said that Obasanjo saw the future of the country and worked towards it, having been at the helm of affairs as the President between 1999 and 2007 during which he laid foundations for strong reforms that brought progress.”

The group said the lawmaker commended the former President for the various reforms implemented under his administration and blamed past governments for not consolidating them in the interest of Nigerians while hoping that the present administration will find a way to make things work differently.

“If successive governments had consolidated electricity reforms, foreign policies, civil service reforms, and digital reforms, among other things, today, we would not be facing the economic challenge that is fighting us,” the group quoted the lawmaker.

“If not for the foundation you laid in 1999, things would have been worse, and at that time you were doing it, most people did not see the future of Nigeria. We can see your effort in transforming telecommunication reform in the country. That you did in the civil service reforms, the establishment of anti-corruption agencies.”

The group stated that the lawmaker “is believed to be reaching out to opposition elements and businessmen who are not happy with the administration to sensitise them to rally against the re-election of the APC under Tinubu’s presidency in 2027.”
PoliticsEndbadgovernance: South-east Deserves Special Recognition From Tinubu Govt, Says by Orabi(op): 7:32pm On Aug 11, 2024
As part of the ‘EndBadGovernance’ movement, the youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Sunday, demanded special recognition from President Bola Tinubu administration, citing the need for the South-East region to deserve special recognition.

The youth wing of apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, on Sunday, described the non-participation of the entire South-East in the nationwide EndBadGovernance protest as historical.

It could be recalled that the entire South-East shunned the hunger protest which lasted from August 1-10 across the country.

The National President of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, Mazi Okwu Nnabuike, in a statement, said it was not by chance that Ndigbo boycotted the protest.

Okwu said it was a demonstration of the love and support Ndigbo had for the President Bola Tinubu administration.

He stated that the Igbo youth group held a series of meetings with affiliate youth organizations where all of them saw reasons not to be part of the protest.

He said: “We took this stand to make Mr President understand clearly that we are solidly behind his government.

“There was a series of engagements with the various affiliate bodies of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, after which we all came to the conclusion that the protest was not needful. From there, we agreed to scale it down to the communities where we were also able to make the people see reasons with us.

“Having said this, we want to in a special way thank all the affiliate bodies of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide, religious, traditional and community groups, as well as market unions and CSOs for heeding to our call.”

Okwu, however, urged the President Tinubu government to in a very special way reciprocate the love shown to his administration by Ndigbo.

“This should be done in the area of ensuring the creation of an additional state for the South-East, correction of imbalance in appointments, release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and adequate funding of the South-East Development Commission, which will aid rapid infrastructural development in our region.”
PoliticsIgbomustgothreat: Rebuild Arewa Initiative Condemns South-west Call For Igbo Exi by Orabi(op): 9:11am On Aug 04, 2024
The Rebuild Arewa Initiative for Development (RAID), a socio-cultural organization dedicated to fostering peace, unity, and development in Northern Nigeria and across the country, has strongly condemned recent calls for individuals from the South East, particularly the Igbos, to leave the South West region and for Yorubas to exit the South East region.

RAID, in a statement by its Director Strategic Communications and Publicity, Comrade Bitako Abubakar Umar, describes these calls as disheartening and unfortunate, especially during a period when Nigerians are grappling with significant hardships and hunger.

The organization views such divisive rhetoric as contrary to the principles of unity and coexistence that underpin the nation.

Umar said: “The RAID considers this act as quite disheartening and unfortunate for such a divisive call at this trying moment of Nigeria where hardship and hunger alone is hitting hard on Nigerians.

“For us in RAID considers it deeply saddening, worrisome and contrary to the principles of unity and co-existence that binds us as a Nation. Such a call is not only impracticable but divisive and also endangers our peace and security as our constitution guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country.

“We in RAID urge all Nigerians to stand united against this divisive rhetoric and to champion unity, tolerance and understanding that our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously.”

PoliticsCNG Welcomes FG Decision To Sell Crude Oil In Naira To Domestic Refineries by Orabi(op): 3:57pm On Jul 31, 2024
The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNG), on Wednesday, welcomed the Federal Government's decision to sell crude oil in naira to domestic refineries as against earlier arrangement of payment in the US dollar.

The coalition views the decision as a positive step towards strengthening Nigeria’s currency, economy and ensuring self-sufficiency in oil production.

CNG, in a statement signed by its Comrade Charanchi, said its advocacy efforts have been vindicated by the Federal Executive Council’s directive to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd to sell crude oil in naira for domestic consumption.

Recall that on April 20, 2024, the CNG, in a statement called on the Federal Government to accept naira in lieu of the US dollar for the purpose of purchasing crude oil from domestic refineries.

The statement highlighted that selling crude oil to the Dangote Refinery in naira would not only lower fuel prices but also significantly benefit the Nigerian economy. “This practical solution will positively impact millions of Nigerians,” the CNG noted.

The group believes that this approach will enhance transparency, boost local capacity, support the naira, and ensure consistent availability of affordable fuel.

Therefore, the CNG is certain that this approach will enhance transparency, boost local capacity, and contribute to the growth of our refining sector, support our currency and make fuel consistently available at affordable prices.

The CNG’s advocacy, which had over the last few months been in the news, has been vindicated by the Federal Executive Council’s instruction to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Ltd to sell crude oil in Naira for the purpose of domestic consumption.

He said: “We believe crude oil transactions in naira in Nigeria will make the PMS permanently available and eliminate artificial scarcity that fuel importers have been using to milk Nigerians dry.

“Today, the CNG is pleased to see that President Bola Tinubu has taken decisive action in this direction. We view this move as a win-win for Nigeria, Nigerians and the refineries.

“We commend the President for taking this bold decision and we urge him to recommit more energy to addressing major obstacles that strangle revival of our refineries and by extension stunting our economy through fuel importation.

“The CNG reiterates its call to the Federal Government to make genuine efforts to revamp state-owned refineries in Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Warri to deepen competition among domestic refiners to enable Nigerians access quality and affordable fuel.

“By taking further decisions to resuscitate Government refineries, the President's resolve to provide a lasting solution to Nigeria's paradox of oil-producing but oil-importing country will be permanently addressed. The only way to address the fuel crisis in Nigeria is to refine fuel locally to completely remove the use of dollars in the process.

“The refineries must also be revitalized and upgraded in order to meet our local needs to exterminate the import-dependent fuel crisis that is being orchestrated by the importing cartel.”

He urge the Federal Government to sustain this momentum and continue implementing policies that prioritize Nigerian interests.

The CNG appeals to domestic refineries to take advantage of this opportunity to produce high-quality petroleum products that are cost effective and make it reasonably affordable to Nigerians devoid of exploitation.

“The CNG strongly suggests to Mr. President that activities at the Kolmani oil well in Bauchi-Gombe Axis must continue swiftly to consolidate on the significant progress already made. The enthusiasm and the resources committed to the work must be pursued rigorously in the interest of the country,” he added

The CNG emphasizes that having our crude oil produced in the country is an important component of our national security and the economy which should be pursued and guarded to protect national interests for a strong and prosperous Nigeria.
PoliticsCCNN Withdrawals From Nationwide Protest, Charges Govts To Address Hunger, Hards by Orabi(op): 12:24am On Jul 29, 2024
The Concerned Citizens of Northern Nigeria (CCNN), has explained its position on the proposed nationwide protest.

Initially, we actively participated in mobilization of people to partake in the protest considering the prevailing conditions of insecurity, hunger and starvation in the country.

However, after considering the following circumstances surrounding the protest, the CCNN Jigawa State Chapter including its 27 LGAs branches hereby announce its withdrawal from the planned Nationwide Protest. This decision was reached in consultation with the 20 Affiliate Associations in Jigawa State.

The Jigawa state Co-ordinator of CCNN, Muhammad Bello Aliyu, said that the decision comes after careful consideration and a thorough assessment of the potential risks and consequences of participating in the protest.

As concerned citizens, we prioritize the peace and stability of our region. We have witnessed the devastating effects of protests in some countries, where initially peaceful demonstrations escalated into violent conflicts, resulting in loss of lives, destruction of property, and long-term instability.

In the same vein, here in Nigeria, we recall the devastating experience of the #EndSARS protest, which was initially peaceful but later hijacked by elements with ulterior motives. The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other groups exploited the situation, leading to widespread violence, destruction of property, and loss of lives. We cannot afford to repeat such a scenario in Northern Nigeria.

We cannot afford to gamble with the security and well-being of our people. The North has faced numerous challenges in recent times, and we must not create avenues for further destabilization.

Moreover, we are aware of the possibility of conflict merchants infiltrating the protest, exploiting the grievances of our people to further their own interests. We will not provide a platform for those who seek to divide and destroy our nation.

Our withdrawal from the protest is a proactive measure to safeguard the interests of Northern Nigeria.

Notwithstanding, today, Nigerians are suffering from insecurity, hunger and starvation. The economic situation in the country has worsened, leaving many without access to basic necessities. It is imperative that the government at all levels rises up to the occasion to find solutions to these pressing issues.

We call on President Tinubu to implement policies to stimulate economic growth and job creation and provide support for vulnerable populations, especially the poor and marginalized.

The CCNN charged the government to address the root causes of insecurity and work towards lasting peace.

Specifically, the CCNN presents the following specific demands to the Government:

Government must work tirelessly to tackle end insecurity bedeviling our communities.
Government must end the current hardship in Nigeria immediately.

Government should revitalize our refineries and reverse petrol prices to a reasonable amount.

Government must reverse electricity tariffs. Bring tertiary institution fees back to their previous rates.

Reduce cost of governance as well as salaries and allowances of all political office holders.

Restrain from the foreign loans and reduce tax on citizens.

We are quite aware that most of the promoters and sponsors of the protest are not even living or working in Nigeria. Many of them are diaspora Nigerians who are based and working in foreign countries.

Therefore, we will not provide a platform for conflict merchants to exploit the situation and worsen the suffering of our people.

We urge all concerned citizens to join us in prioritizing peace and stability in our region. Together, we can build a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come devoid of violence.
PoliticsNigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Worldwide Urge Nigerians Shun Protests, by Orabi(op): 12:04am On Jul 29, 2024
he apex leadership of the Nigeria Ethnic Nationality Youth Leaders Worldwide, on Sunday, organizers of the planned nationwide demonstration to shun protests and embrace dialogue with the federal government, stating that protests are not the solution to Nigeria's problems.

The group's decision follows reports of a youth-led nationwide protest planned to address the country’s economic hardship. However, federal and state governments, including President Tinubu, have appealed to the youths to postpone the planned protest. Religious and traditional institutions have also called for its cancellation.

The President General, Niger Delta Ethnic Nationalities Youth Leaders/President General (NENYLCW), Comrade Terry Obieh, disclosed this in Abuja, during a press briefing, said that after meeting and reviewing the situation, the group has declared its non-participation in the protest and condemns it in its entirety.

He said: “We have observed closely over the past few weeks as a section of Nigerians planned what they called nationwide protests against bad governance. We took the time to analyze the intent of the protest and its organizers.

“We are aware of the current hardship in the country, but it is essential to remind Nigerians that these problems are surmountable.

“All we need is to chart a common path forward through constructive criticism and engagement through a robust, nationwide dialogue campaign, sensitization, and movement, free from unwarranted interference and intimidation.

“We are informing Nigerian youths that we are not part of the protest because we were not involved in the planning. Regrettably, some identified individuals and politicians have decided to weaponize the pain and anguish of downtrodden Nigerians.

“We are fully aware that hoodlums are planning to hijack the process. As the apex youth organization in the country with over 407 ethnic nationalities organizations, we were not included, while politicians and other personalities abroad are planning to weaponize and use hapless Nigerians to achieve their inordinate selfish motives.”

He said to urgently prevent the hijacking of the protest and the escalation of violence in our country, we call on Nigerians to abandon the proposed national protest and join hands with our organization.

“Unfortunately, there are credible security reports that this protest will be hijacked by the enemies of the country, who are determined to set the country ablaze, as evidenced by the #EndSARS and Kenya's disturbances.

“We reaffirm our earlier position of solidly supporting the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, based on verifiable evidence of his good intentions to lift Nigeria and Nigerians out of adversity.

“While we acknowledge the challenges facing the country, we do not believe that protests are the solution. Instead, we should all remain patient with the government as it makes conscious efforts to restore the country's fortunes.

“Without hesitation, we reiterate that the entire Nigerian youth has confidence in President Tinubu's government and would not do anything to jeopardize its efforts. In most cases, improvement follows a period of difficulty, and that is the current situation in the country.

“Anyone seeking to use the youth as sacrificial lambs and instruments of violence under the guise of protest should look elsewhere. Never again will we allow ourselves to be victims of such a nationwide evil action.”

PoliticsNorthern Elders Forum Condemns Efforts To Undermine Dangote Refinery by Orabi(op): 3:50pm On Jul 26, 2024
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF), expressed strong disapproval of recent attempts by some vested interests to undermine the Dangote Refinery, a landmark project by Alhaji Aliko Dangote.

NEF also highlighted the refinery's potential to transform Nigeria’s oil and gas sector, providing much needed refining capacity and reducing the country's reliance on imported refined products.

The Convener of NEF, Professor Ango Abdullahi, in a statement, criticized efforts to thwart the progress of what is hailed as the largest single-train refinery globally and a symbol of national pride and technological advancement.

He noted that the Dangote Refinery stands as a testament to Dangote’s commitment and resilience in overcoming significant challenges to build a state-of-the-art petroleum refining facility in Nigeria.

Abdullahi said: “Northern Elders Forum (NEF), is watching with sustained interest, the unfolding drama being orchestrated by some powerful vested interests, to frustrate the good example which the nation's leading investor and foremost African entrepreneur, Alh. Aliko Dangote represents, by defying all formidable odds to build a private-owned world class, ultramodern petroleum refinery in Nigeria.

“Dangote refinery, which is reputed to be the biggest single-train refinery in the world, is a technological marble that showcases the most advanced innovation in the trade field and also the symbol of our national pride.

“This remarkable business feat, which ordinarily should instantly earn him national encomiums and accolades, has paradoxically ignited the malicious fury of enemies of our dear country, who are strategically located in the Oil and Gas sector of the economy and have been wrecking havocs over the years.

“Through many subterfuges resulting into the crippling of our nation's refining capacity and the ruthless imposition of a ruinous regime of massive refined oil and other sundry products importation to the detriment of our national growth and economic global competitiveness.

“In this wise, the lamen table and highly troubling commentary against the Dangote refinery, that came out from the NNPCL and its other sister regulatory body, smacks of a glaring attempt to demarket this epochal national achievement and premeditatedly drail the economy from the path of healthy growth and stability.

“For thirty (30) years, the vested interest that runs the NNPC cartel, ensured that the nation's four refineries were rendered comatose and incapable of refining the badly needed Petroleum to meet our domestic consumption.

“Nigeria became the object of global ridicule, as we are the only OPEC member nation without refining capability and heavily dependent on mass importation of oil and other derivatives.

“We wish to reiterate at this stage, that, Nigerians who mostly bear the brunt of escalating cost of fuel pump prices, frequent fuel shortages and the rampant poverty and joblessness which some of these unwholesome insider and shoddy business deals clearly perpetuate, will no longer fold their patriotic arms and allow a few well entrenched powerful individuals to continue taking the economy of the nation hostage, and thus.

“In treacherous connivance with some foreign interests, continue to condemn our dear nation, to a permanent state of shortages, social crises, economic and industrial underdevelopment.”

NEF praised the intervention of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr. H. Lukoberi, in addressing the situation.

The forum further reaffirmed its support for Dangote, emphasizing the importance of defending the refinery as a significant step toward national prosperity and economic stability.
PoliticsNorthern Group Frontiers Condemns Reps Call To Suspend NMDPRA Boss by Orabi(op): 7:57pm On Jul 25, 2024
A group, Northern Group Frontiers, has condemned the House of Representatives' motion calling for the suspension of Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) Chief Executive, Farouk Ahmed.

It would be recalled that the House of Representatives on Tuesday urged President Bola Tinubu to suspend Ahmed for his "unguarded comments" about the quality of products produced at the Dangote Refinery.

The lawmakers requested that Ahmed should be suspended pending an investigation into the allegations against the authority.

Reacting to the issue during a press briefing in Abuja, the Northwestern Co-ordinator of Northern Group Frontiers, Ambassador Abdul Usman, criticized the House's move.

“We are appalled by the House of Representatives' resolution to sack the Managing Director of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, over alleged ‘unguarded comments' on local refineries.

“This action reeks of desperation and blatant bias, exposing the lawmakers' shocking allegiance to Dangote's monopolistic interests. The same Dangote who has consistently employed unethical tactics to undermine his competitors, including BUA, is now being shielded by the House of Reps,” Usman said.

The group called on the House to retract its resolution and uphold fairness and independent investigations into Dangote's business practices.

They emphasized the need for protection for whistleblowers and industry regulators.

Usman also questioned Dangote's business practices: “The House of Reps should also thoroughly investigate how, since President Obasanjo's era, Dangote has been the only investor buying all available Black Oil in Nigerian refineries, shutting out rivals and manipulating the market.”

The same Dangote who has consistently employed unethical tactics to undermine his competitors, including BUA, is now being shielded by the House of Reps. We recall:

1. Dangote's bounced cheque that led to the freeze of BUA's assets.

2. The orchestrated land grab that shuttered BUA's sugar refinery.

3. The deportation attempt of BUA's expatriate staff, thwarted by presidential intervention.

These instances demonstrate Dangote's ruthless pursuit of monopoly. Yet, the House of Reps chooses to target the NMDPRA boss for speaking truth to power.

We condemn this gross injustice and demand: The House of Reps to retract its resolution and uphold fairness.

An independent investigation into Dangote's unethical business practices.

Protection for whistleblowers and industry regulators who dare to speak truth to power.

For balance, the House of Reps should also thoroughly investigate how, since the era of President Obasanjo, Dangote has been the only investor buying off all the available Black Oil in Nigerian refineries, shutting out his rivals, thereby manipulating everything.
