Hello guys, please could I fill the ds 160 form before paying Visa Application and Sevis fees?

A kind person stated earlier that one has to go to the bank (GT) to pay the VIsa application fee. However I read on the website that it can also be paid through internet banking. I was wondering whether there is any disadvantage that comes with paying online.
I paid via GTBANK internet banking portal. No disadvantage

This should be directed to the family. This is where I core problem lies. Imagine as a kid your parents earn between 100-400k each and yet they find it hard to give you monthly stipends of at least 1k but spend on unnecessary things like filling the house with different species of clothes (mothers) fathers spend on buying drinks everytime visitors are around. Come to think of it in my POV I will be annoyed and it will be difficult to confide in my parents. Secondly peer groups from the first example you have a friend who also has parents of the same calibre as your parents and they do the opposite, they give monthly stipends to him natural instincts will tell you"Dude shey you Sabi where mommy dey keep money, just go carry 2k she no go observe". Man me in such position ama do it not minding what will befall.
What manner of words are these? You have NO EXCUSE to steal, and NO ONE is responsible for your decision to steal or cheat. Kindly change your "entitlement" mentality, it will get you close to nowhere. Thanks.

Mehn I pray y'all get your visas o so y'all can see the other side of the world. FYI, kiddo is an informal greeting. Same way most of you think "Hey" is a word that shouldn't be used on elders when actually "hey" is a greeting.

I wish we can learn not to be so fast to attack. Come to think about it, you are trying to go through a path other people have gone through, so you are their kiddo with respect to that path, so am still correct to address you as "kiddo" on this thread. If you come to the city where I live in, i can pick you up at the airport, accommodate you and help you find your way around town. So yes, you are "kiddo" in that regard.

And that post is not in any way about enthusiasm dampening. It is not even dampening anything at all.

Age might be a big factor in the part of the world where you are right now but age is not a big deal in the part of the world where you are aspiring to be. You will learn that soon kiddo
Young man... You better learn and stop justifying rubbish! undecided Even your defense is full of contradictions. You feed no one here but yourself. So, stop this silly arrogance, pick your knuckles and move your silly self out of this thread if you will not be respectful and cordial in your conversations. Nonsense! angry

It is not an act of rebellion. They are doing what they think it's best to keep their school community safe.

Governor Dewine of Ohio issued a mask mandate for 7 Hotspot counties in Ohio and you think it sounds rebellious for a school to decide to go online?

Trump wants all schools to reopen without regard to safefy. He even threatened to withdraw funding from schools that don't reopen.

Harvard and ICE have kukuma sued this policy, let's see how it's pans out
I have no issue with the decision. Just stating my reaction to the stuff.

It sounds quite rebellious, and ofcourse highly optimistic as you have rightly noted.

ISFS: More information about the fall semester

Hello ,

I am writing to follow up on our email from last night regarding the guidance that has been provided by SEVP related to the 2020 Fall semester.

First, I want you to know that we are doing everything we can to advocate on behalf of all international students at local and national levels. Second, you truly are such an important part of our Ohio University family and our Athens community. Third, we completely disagree with this guidance as we know the untenable position this puts many of you in. And finally, you are welcome and wanted in our community and as such we will continue to advocate for reasonable and supportive guidance for those of you who have entrusted us to support your education and growth here at OHIO.
Please keep a few things in mind as we navigate this guidance together:

Please keep yourself informed through emails that ISFS will send to you.

Please try to keep your focus on the here and now and not let the constant barrage of news and social media posts add stress to your life when we do not know if this guidance will stand.

Please do not make any immediate academic/life decisions based upon this guidance until you have spoken with both ISFS and your academic advisor.

As you may know, yesterday the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) issued long-awaited guidance for the Fall 2020 semester. For Spring and Summer semesters, SEVP granted universities and students a great deal of flexibility to adapt to the curricular changes made in response to the COVID-19 outbreak. It was our hope that the same flexibility would be granted for the Fall. However, yesterday’s guidance has removed some of the allowances that were granted previously.
Ohio University has adopted a hybrid model of teaching for the Fall, meaning that there will be a combination of in-person and online classes. This new guidance does allow students to pursue studies in the U.S. under this model. However, there are some limitations you need to be aware of:

Degree-seeking students can take extra online classes. However, they must also have at least one face-to-face class.

Students are required to take the fewest number of online courses possible to allow them to make normal progress towards their degree.

Every student must be issued a new I-20 form that confirms they are adhering to the two above rules.

According to the guidance released on July 6, 2020, students currently outside of the U.S. cannot keep an active SEVIS record while pursing online courses from abroad.

On July 7, 2020, contradictory information was provided by SEVP, and we are now waiting on clarification before providing further information.

Students in the Ohio Program of Intensive English (OPIE) are not allowed to take any online classes.

The guidance also states that if a university must move to an entirely online format during the course of the semester, students would need to either return home or transfer to another institution.
There are many questions about this guidance that remain unanswered. We have contacted our SEVP liaison to ask for additional details, especially about the existing plan for the university to move from in-person to online after Thanksgiving.
Once we have more details from SEVP we will be able to issue some recommendations that will help you determine your best options for the Fall semester.
There are many institutions that are standing up for all international students who are in the U.S. or wish to come someday to study. We hope this outpouring of support for students and advocacy against unreasonable guidance will result in a change to what was provided by SEVP yesterday. It is our goal that you be supported to remain at OHIO regardless of the teaching methods used during this unprecedented time we are facing with the continuing CO-VID crisis.
Our whole team at ISFS is here to support you, and we welcome your feedback and guidance and please do feel free to share your concerns. We will continue to provide the best support and advocacy that we can. You are welcome here, on our campus, in our community, and in our country.
Sincerely,
Diane Cahill and our ISFS team

Na wa o... everybody just dey shout "stolen destiny" as if they are destiny keeper. Nigerians are too superstitious than logical. You just want to kill this guy before his days are truly over...

Guy... free your mind abeg. That's a new experience for you. Not everything you see for life you should bring to nairaland. Lots of misguided fellow who will just jeep pronouncing judgement as if they are moral judges. Most of them practice witchcrafty.

I personally believe all you experienced are biological and mostly psychological. All the snake and cockroach feelings, our mind plays lots of tricks on us...especially when you are dealing with stolen waters... and they tend to produce physical symptoms as we brood on them.

Forget all these religious shenanigans. Gather yourself together. Your destinies are in your hand. Go back to God and sincerely apologise (as you are a christian). You can go to clinic for std test, but I'm a bit convinced you've not contracted any from the lady.

The rejected money... you both were obviously scared over what happened. She is as scared as you.

PS: please o, biko... religious people should quote me. I won't dignify you with a reply; this is my personal contributions

(1)You can go ahead and pay your sevis fee at this time since you have everything handy (I-20). You can pm Walspring on here, I think he help people pay for sevis fee.

(2) You can go ahead and book your visa interview but make sure It’s within 120 days to the start of your program indicated on your I-20.

(3) Nobody here can predict ur chances of getting the visa cos we r not visa officers. Just prepare and build your confidence level n convince the VO to approve your visa. Furthermore, being married n having a kid is a plus for you cos ur home ties r strong with them back home in Nigeria.

Good luck.
Thank you Sir.

Thank you for the help so far.

I got a PhD admission to MCB at Ohio University with full tuition waiver and teaching assistantship. My i-20 came in last week and there was no deficit. However, I was asked to hold $2k for initial survival.
Stated on the i-20, program starts August 12, 2020
Class begins August 24, 2020
Earliest admission date: july 13, 2020.

MY ENQUIRIES:
1. Can I go ahead and pay my SEVIS fee now? Who can you refer to help me with making the payment in USA?

2. Should I go ahead and make my Visa payment and pick an appointment date now? Won't it be too early considering that August is the resumption. If not, when will be the right time to apply?

Thank you

As much as I am tempted to ignore this thread, I won't! For the sake of people who genuinely want to learn.

Federal & State Civil service entry points

(1) SSCE: Gl 1-4 (messenger is GL. 1, clerical staff is GL. 4)..terminal point is around GL. 6-7, except you cross to technical staff with training certificates.

(2) NCE: GL. 7 (Terminal point is GL. 14 - I might not get this terminal point right. I will check the gazette of service when I get to work tomorrow)

(3) ND: GL. 6 (Terminal is around GL 14 as a technical supretendent)

(4) HND: GL. 8 (Executive cadre. Terminal is GL. 14. You can NEVER exceed this unless you go for your BSc. Not even with a PGD. With exception of Accountants with ICAN/ANAN)

(5) BSc: GL. 8 (Professional cadre. Terminal is GL. 17. No limit actually. Chartered acct enter with GL. 10)
...............................................

This opinion of mine is never about BSc/HND dichotomy. And it is never to drag with any Polytechnic student. It is to encourage you if you are currently running an NCE programme. YOU ARE VERY MUCH ON TRACK.

Finish up your NCE, work small and go for your degree (part time studies isn't bad actually).

... And if you have an ND, if you can afford the luxury, please don't go for an HND... Rather go for a BSc.

My sincere piece. I bow out. Thank you

Irrespective of whereever you've worked, with a due respect sir, you do not know what you're saying. I have a degree so I'm not writing for a partial perspective.

ND, to a good extent, is far regarded than NCE. Let me even tell you a secret. In all the government recruitment exercises that have been advertised including EFCC, NCE is categorised with ND. ND would fetch you a far better position anywhere in Nigeria than NCE.

NCE without a degree is a waste of time. As a matter of fact, NCE holders are seen as the lowest on the pyramid.
Ok Sir. I've heard you. I hope the wise will pick what they need to.

Lie.
They might not be respected among the ignorants. Kindly get to labour market and see an NCE holder being employed over an HND holder to teach. TRCN is a big issue for non-educators now.

NCE is not an end, but a means to an end. I always wished I had one.

Start planning for your degree... Btw, with an NCE, you might not need a B.Ed again as it were... A BSc might just do.

Good. You can never lack work. And the more innovative you are, the more your financial strength grows.

Now, take time and save money to apply for all these FCE part-time degree programme in Physics/Maths. You are a hot cake bro... Anywhere in Nigeria.
EducationRe: Difference Between NCE And SSCE by oracle009(m): 10:21pm On Feb 17, 2020
Op... Please, your statement is a misguided one.
NCE is better than ND or HND in the current Nigeria (you can argue as much as you want). I plead with anyone interested, rather go for an NCE than ND o. With time, you will add your degree.

NCE is a professional certification and this pays both in short and long runs. The problem is when an NCE holder wants to work in a bank. YOU ARE A TEACHER! Please, avoid ND at the expense of NCE.

FYI: I don't have NCE, ND or HND. I was however a Federal Polytechnic lecturer till 2019.
