There is not nothin like feminism, take it or not. Those who are callin for feminism are ungrateful because of their greediness. They will neva fight to go to war, to do vigilante etc. If they wanted security they would not ask for women like them to be their security and their drivers are men. If they really believe that women are equal to men, all the first ladies should have women as their security or whenever there is fire outbreak only women firefighters should be release to do the job so we can know the truth.

This will be interesting.. Many of them who call themselves feminist are just hypocrites. Preaching what they can't do.

It's relevant today though. Feminism in it real sense has done alot of good, from empowerment, self awareness, rights etc etc.
Exactly!!

The original aim itself is what every sane person should support. Even if some set of people are deviating from the set aim, sane people should still stick to supporting the original aim.

But our Nigerian men wanna throw away the baby with the bath water. What are they scared of?

They claim the misguided feminist wanna eat their cake and have it. Even our men want to eat their cake and have it.

You can't want your wife to work and earn like you, then slave at the home front without your supporting, all in the name of submission. It won't work.

I'm very Pro-family and anyone that knows me outside here knows that. The original aim of feminism is necessary, while maintaining reasonable family and societal values.
Good!
You're balanced. You're not one of those ladies who just joined it as a bandwagon because its a trend now.
These ones no nada about it, they are the ones misinterpreting it. Most of these folks practice misandry and think its feminism.
I call them "Facebook femisnists ".
..
Real femisnists don't necessarily make noise, you see feminism in their words and actions. Selah

Yes it relevant. But there should be a balance between feminism, culture and custom. Women should be empowered but not at the expense of their primary duties as wife and mothers.
Aren't you contradicting yourself?

To me, feminism is much more complicated in marriage. In marriage, there can never be two equals, there has to be a leader.
Evolution and cultural influence has made a man assume that role naturally and willed women to take the back seat. If both parties reach a conclusion on how to run their homes and decides on who does which chores and how collective money is spent, I think society(me and you) owes it to them to stay outta their buisness and leave them to manage their own life.

In other words, it is not compulsory the woman performs all the chores. . The couple can decide what they want.
Oh my!
This is exactly the real deal. All ye fake femisnists out there tainting the name. Read this!
You're very balanced!

Love ur humor always.

Just Watch as little broke dick heads will hijack this thread.
As if it's women that made them broke.
To me a true feminist is a woman who works hard enough to buy herself a trophy husband/ boy toy.
Our boys are now professional gigolos. They are ready to lick a woman's anus of she can pay.
Nigerian men are more of gold diggers than women!
The only thing is most of our rich women respect themselves unlike rich men in Nigeria who can sleep with almost anything under skirt.
Is this all feminism is about?
What wave do you suscribe to?

And this figure is based on?

Look, there's nothing wrong with a man running the home. . . .a team has to have a leader. But we can't discredit the effort our mothers put into marriage too, raising us from day 1 till now, working their àsses off to still support their husbands in the monetary aspect and basically being there to take all our complains.

That she isn't the bread winner doesn't mean she isn't involved in show running. Let me ask you, was your father solely responsible for giving you money for everything you needed growing up?
This is awesome!

Feminist is relevant to the extent of the laws of Nigeria. The laws of Nigeria, despite it's medieval outlook is pretty fair to women. For instance, women can do just about anything a man can do. However, the problem has never been the absent of laws but the implementation.
I don't get you. Do you mean it is relevant or irrelevant?

Feminism as defined by Wikipedia (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Feminism)

"Feminism is a range of political movements, ideologies, and social movements that share a common goal: to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women.[1][2] This includes seeking to establish educational and professional opportunities for women that are equal to such opportunities for men.

Feminist movements have campaigned and continue to campaign for women's rights, including the right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave. Feminists have also worked to promote bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence.[3] Changes in dress and acceptable physical activity have often been part of feminist movements."

Now lets start with the question of "is the woman gender disadvantaged today?"
In our society today especially in Nigeria much preference is given to women today, even in our relationships its the girlfriend that enjoys the fringe benefits. In the wake of any disaster women and children are given preference, yet men have never complained and said this is "inequality".
Considering the definition as obtained from Wikipedia, lets critically look at this:
"to define, establish, and achieve political, economic, personal, and social rights for women"
In Nigeria today Women have social, political, economic, personal, and social rights. Women contest for political positions in Nigeria today, Women are head of coporations in Nigeria today.

"right to vote, to hold public office, to work, to earn fair wages or equal pay, to own property, to receive education, to enter contracts, to have equal rights within marriage, and to have maternity leave"
As earlier stated Women have the right to vote, and earn equal wages with their male counterparts, they own properties and have access to education. Is it realistic to have equal rights in marriage? Can there be 2 leaders at the same time?

"bodily autonomy and integrity, and to protect women and girls from rape, sexual harassment, and domestic violence"
Men also suffer rape and domestic violence so why is there a special movement for women on that. Only on the exceptions of religous sections of the country that restrict women's bodily autonomy. At that is an issue with religion not men. right?
.....
Thanks for reading to this point. I have not made any conclusions but i have only drawn realistic applications of feminism in Nigeria today.

I will like to know what you think. Is feminism relevant in Nigeria today? FACTS ONLY INTELLIGENT COMMENTS

Family / Re: Do You Think Intertribal Marriage Should Be Encouraged? by OrdercityWeb: 5:03pm On Aug 23, 2017
tolajay:
Dear OrdercityWeb,

I see your quest to hold an intellectual conversation on this issue, howbeit, without considering the realistic points of sociology, culture and human existence. So, your position might only be academically relevant and nothing more.

You stated all your perceived reasons for why intertribal unions shouldn't be encouraged or established, with the preservation of culture and identity leading the pack. You, however, failed to state in specifics what you mean by identity and culture (at least for clear understanding by all). This is further expressed in your counters to other contributors' comment on the the evolution of culture and identity.

Let me ask you, what role does cultural affiliation play in the development, successes or failures of an individual - major, medium, minor? You referenced Solomon being a man of dual tribe/race, how did that contributed to his disadvantage, success or failure in life?

Now, who and what rule says that humans (an individual) should only have a single cultural leaning all of his/her life? The human mind is quite adaptive, especially, at its formative (childhood) stage. A child grows up seeing his mum switch between two 'cultures', apparently, s/he believes that that's the way to life and go through life and sees no issue with that. Just before s/he goes outside to see loads of singular cultural homes, his/her mind, thoughts and outlook are already formed that dual 'cultural' lifestyle ain't no problem. No confusion, no wahala. (I'm a product of this, not through marriage but through environment - Yoruba growing up in an Igbo community).

I won't dwell extensive on the role of intertribal marriage in breaking the tides of tribalism...someone already did.

Look around marriages plagued by domestic violence and instability, are they all intertribal? You've not see a Yoruba man beating his Yoruba wife to stupor?

To get the conversation flowing, you might to be specific about your understanding of what culture is, that way, we'll all be on the same page.

Mind you, depending on the level of understanding of tribal couple (Igbo/Yoruba based in Lagos), they can decide to strictly call the child by an Igbo name, learn Igbo language first, get affiliate with the Igbo pattern at his earliest stage and of course learn the Yoruba pattern much later (not out of compulsion, but the prevailing environment is simply empowering to do that).

InterTribal all the way.........

Thank you for your response @Tolajay

@ the first bolded portion of your comment, if we leave the REALITY of human existence, sociology and all are we then being realistic? I think we are rather being IDEALISTIC. That's like having an utopian society in our imagination where all things go as planned and in order.

@the second bolded portion of your reply, this the point i am making. What then is the identity of the child? i personally growing up learned about other cultures. we all do either directly in school or in directly on the streets.
BUT the question of who am i? Where am from? What are the values of my culture? are undisputed.Realistically if we keep encouraging intertribal marriage we are going to get to a point where we do not know or care about our idenity. A case in point is AFRICAN AMERICANS

@your other questions i think they have been answered in my repsonse to others on the thread. And if not its an idealistic rather than a realistic idea.
