TWoods: I am a christian... but i am tired of reading this demonstrably false acknowledging of "God" anytime we obtain immigration benefits the rest of the world takes for granted. Yours is a profile i have seen all too often - well prepared, going for degrees that are in line with their previous degrees, good grades, and best of all - proof of full funding from a well respected US school. Except for rare cases, people with these profiles typically get their visas approved... without having to claim that it was all a miracle. You do others a disservice, rather than preparing hard like you've done, you perpetuate the Nigerian idea that all it takes is "miracles", even when presenting fraudulent documents at their visa interviews. He said it's God , he said its a Miracle , yes thats what he believe , leave it at that, is it your miracle? Your oversabi seems too much Alaye We go on and on bashing mysteries, miracles, religion...God.. whatever our comprehension of science cannot explain. We elevate empirical science to levels that Darwin and Freud never even imagined. Whatever cannot pass our basic tests of empiricism is untrue and unacceptable. Why not? Science has always got our backs; antibiotics, airplanes, telephony, information..., science is there, handling it all with gusto. But we forget that the simple things of life; love, laughter, pain, joy, happiness, agony, sorrow all defy empiricism. You cannot synthesize laughter in a lab nor happiness in a petri dish. You cannot bottle joy for sale nor peace as tablets. There's no agar to culture a smile and brew pain. No matter our gains in science, death defies pathology and psychiatry cannot reach the bottom of the human mind. Should we continue to accept that all we see is all there is? Should we elevate science to that podium above all else because it peeps into the galaxies and tells us of the birth of stars and black holes? Why were the stars born? If science on its match to unravel the mysteries of existence taught the discerning mind anything, it is ad TS Elliot puts it, that realization that "all our knowledge leads us closer to our ignorance," for the more we know, the more we know we do not know. Those with true knowledge will develop a sense of awe and bow (even while still searching!); the man with half-knowledge will mount the chariot of banal hubris and go gallop to town spewing inanities at faiths and those who bow. |

TWoods: Sorry... you haven't had to fly to international airports and be treated like a criminal, not because of anything you've done, but because of the willful dishonesty of those who happen to share the same passport with you by accident. This is not about "because you made it", its about doing the right thing, especially for those who loudly proclaim "god" in every post here.
A country is nothing without its people. A country does not magically happen, it is simply a reflection of what its citizens are willing to accept. The countries we are running to did not develop a better life by magic or because they have a special blessing from a deity... they did so by holding themselves to strict moral codes of conduct, a thing we despise. This is a zoo, not because God made it so, but because you and your ilk think it is morally justified to cheat to obtain a "better life"... one built on the backs of the morally honest. Everyone wants a better life, they are just not willing to put in the work to achieve it, rather preferring to steal, lie and cut corners. My tone isn't the problem, you are.
I am fully justified in despising those who "just want to use their uncles Statement, obtain visa and hustle over there to pay the tuition fees". Thanks to them, we are now required to provide our grandmother's blood to obtain a visa that others have no trouble getting. Those people callously think only about themselves, forgetting that their actions are the reason others will never ever get the freedom to explore other countries. Yes, i will always spit on them, no problem. Show me any German thread of US visa aspirants... i dare you. Alaye, welcome back , what's always your problem with God or people that called him, your believe is yours in absolutism, leave people that call him to theirs, A more critical look at the whole Nigeria , religions and God will make you realize its not the peoples fault to ask for prayer , We are not stuck because we are "too religious". We are too religious because we are stuck. Just put permanent power in transformers and prayers to get light won't be there. No? You have left the shore for long and you might not really know situations of things to details Here, We pray for things governments in Japan and Norway and Sweden provide easily, or even free. Here, thieves and criminals openly steal votes and money and yet declare that "power comes from God." When taken to task to deliver according to the oaths of their offices they ask the people to pray to god to guide "their leaders." And yes, the people will pray because that's all you left to do. How many can afford acyclovir? How many can afford Augmentin? Prayers is the key to everything. Even worse the religious organizations are furiously stepping in to fill up the vacuum left by government. The Nigerian would rather trust the pastor that preaches about his welfare every Sunday and takes pragmatic steps towards making his life better than trust a president who routinely fails in everything even while promising to do more. It's not about the country being backward because we are too religious. It's about we running to religion because nobody has our backs. |

You answer to Why GU is too generic , try and tailor your answer to your school , think of what peculiarity make the school different from others? Any research on going ? Are you in talk with any professor ?Is there any research lab or students initiative that interest you ? These and other features will make you arrive at a better answer to this question . |

sharwama: TALE OF AN APPROVED VISA Written by Miss Sharwama I remember my heart pounding as I had my bath at 4:30 a.m. yesterday. I was so afraid, I couldn’t even sponge properly. I kept asking myself, “Sharwama after all the noise you have been making on NL, what if you get denied?” “What if you stutter and can’t make eye contact with the VO”… As I applied cream on my chocolate skin, I remember hearing a very gentle voice “Sharwama be still and know that I am God, I have gone ahead of you to make the crooked places straight”. This really gave me courage. My uncle drove me to the embassy; my interview was at 6:30 a.m. and I got there right on time. I followed all the processes and protocol kini and then I came face-to-face with the visa officer. I paid no attention to the window number. I said a mental prayer “Father, the hour has come, glorify your daughter” and the Lord spoke to me “Sharwama, I have glorified you before and I will do it again”.
VO: Good morning and how are you? Sharwama: Good morning. I am not sure how I feel; I have butterflies in my stomach. VO: (Smiles) I understand how you feel, this won’t take much time. Pass me your I-20, passport and SEVIS receipt (I did) VO: Why do you need this visa? Sharwama: I want to pursue a masters in Biology Program at East Tennessee State University, Johnson City, Tennessee. I can’t do that if my visa isn’t approved. VO: I see here that your sponsor is your mother but you also have a graduate assistantship, I am impressed! Sharwama: I am glad you are. VO: I will be approving your visa (hands me the white paper with circled location. Gave me back my I-20 and SEVIS receipt. Said the whole tyonteugdfvcvnm, jklpewszxcvbnmi but I didn’t hear anything. When she was done talking, I was still staring at her. The next person was already behind me) VO: You can leave now Sharwama: Is that all? You didn’t ask why I chose ETSU, the schools I applied to, what I have been doing since, you didn’t ask my study plan or even what this degree would do for me or my plans after completion? (She was about interrupting but I burst into tears) Sharwarma: Do you know how much the bank charged my sponsor in order to print statements of her multiple accounts? Or the stress it took to colour-print my GRE and TOEFL scores? I nearly had an accident you know. So what would I do with these papers now? Maybe you don’t know this, but I spent the last three months of my life, waking up in the middle of the night to rehearse for this interview and all you did was ask THREE questions? Would you please interview me again? Her mouth was wide open, her eyes were all out of the socket, and she was in utter shock! Next, a security officer approached me. I knew he would show me out. As he led me, I tightly held on to the white paper and my documents. For some reason, I turned to the VO and saw her smiling at me. I wiped my tears and smiled back. Right there in that moment, I knew she would go to bed with memories of a crazy girl who had her F1 visa approved effortlessly and just couldn’t believe it. Yes, I remember tasting something in my mouth, kinda tasted like Ribena and I kept licking my mouth till I opened my eyes and saw Martins, my little nephew with Ribena in his hands. It was 7:30 a.m.; I jumped out of bed, knowing I would be late for work. I hurriedly had my bath, brushed my teeth, there was no time for the normal early morning pooing. I ran out of the house, stopped Keke and entered. As he drove me, I couldn’t help but smile. Although, I knew my boss would query me for coming late, I was grateful because my beautiful dream was worth it… Written by the girl who keeps seeing V.O’s in her sleep. Inspired by samdgreat2011’s approved visa Chai!!! Humor at its best.. this is wonderful subtle humor. I found you downright hilarious. I have a personal preference for fairheart, you and few others comments here , Even today reading your past comments never fails to elevate my moods. For some reason this sticks in the mind. After so much checking/biometrics, I finally found myself in front of the young man in window 2. Friendly but thorough (he spent close to 30 mins with a family in front me, and gave a yellow paper)
Below is my transcript. Note that I couldn't use word for word what transpired.
Congratulations sir Go and prosper
vo: what are you going to do in the US
me: I'm going for a PhD degree program in Physics at Florida State University. I would be specializing on condensed matter physics.

Researches on magnetic fields and the likes are carried out there which is what I'll also do.Dr xyz research on fabrication of nanomaterials which are used for solar energy harvesting attracted me too. And considering Nigeria for example, our hydropower has failed us, and people are going solar, so there's a need for more researches there because of the growing demand (he listened to all the story, typing on the system, looking at me, and nodding)
vo: can you name the top schools in physics
me: Harvard, Stanford and ehmmm British Columbia
vo: How many programs did you apply to
me: I applied to 7 other schools
vo: Is FSU your preference
me: ehnnnn, I actually have FSU and USF as my preference.
vo: what do you do
me: I teach Physics in an advanced level college.
vo: do you have a degree in Physics
me: Yes, I have a first class bachelors degree in Physics and also a masters in Physics.
vo: which school
me: University of Ibadan, here in Nigeria.
vo: who will be funding you.
me: I have an assistantship and also the deans doctoral scholarship from the school.
vo: are you traveling alone
me: yes
vo: you're married
me: yes, with a child
vo: so your wife will be coming to join later
me: ehnmm, yea, not yet because we have a little baby. she has nothing doing there for now.
vo: what is mustard seed unilab (he picked that from my ds 160)
me: it's an educational center that prepares students for utme; university admissions.
vo: what's the meaning of mustard seed
me: its a very small seed that grows to become a very large tree, ..
vo: when will you be traveling
me: ending of July because school resumes August 2.
vo: (gives my i-20 and sevis back to me, includes the EducationUSA orientation stuff. Searches for the white paper) Pick your bla bla in 3 working days
me: (receives white paper with a smile, just put in my folder jejely with what he earlier passed across) Thank you sir.
Saw one handicapped guy selling white handkerchief outside; bought with joy and overpaid wella.

Nativeborn: Good afternoon lovely people. Hope you are having a great day? For me it's a sad one! I have been refused f1 visa twice this month. On the 8th and 13th of May (today). The consular officers didn't really ask much from me. The first said I wasn't qualified because of my intended purpose of visit (212 denial) and today's own reads 214 (I don't have tie, employment etc...). Of course I do, and all the documents are in the folder but they never even ask for them. On my way home, I stayed at GTbank to make another visa payment hoping to fill the ds-160 form again tonight. Is it a good idea? The soon is resuming on the 28th of May, yes I can still be lucky to have a close date like I did earlier. Should I defer my admission or try applying again? I might be able to convince the consular in the next interview that I have properties, job, family etc.. Damn! Something is wrong somewhere Please you guys should help me out. I have three countries visa on my old passport, they didn't even bother to check ah!
I have all the TOEFL, GRE, IELTS, my school is St. Mary's University St. Anthonio, Texas
Thanks and God bless you all. The provided info isn't enough to proffer a possible solution to your predicament, detail your visa transcript , for people to see.thanks |

A mail was sent to me which contained a link to filling a form for my i20 which I did immediately. when applying in March, I submitted my dad's bank statement to the schoo which covered for Dec 2018 to March 2019. I got a mail from the school last night insisting I submit statement from 3 most recent months I.e Feb, March and April/May. My dad has been out of the country hence I cant get his bank statement. I want to know if it's okay to use my mom's bank statement since she is around. I plan to mail the school informing them of change in sponsor before they issue me form i20.
Please I need suggestions or advice before I take the above steps. Thank you all Write the advisor and notify her of the change of sponsorship, then attach the new bank statement , and fill another financial affidavit form to reflect your mom as sponsor. there is no problem so far your soa is genuine. |

fairheart: I will also say something about the value of GA, GTA, and scholarship offers on your I-20s. Imagine a University in the US offered you GA of $15, 000 to $20, 000 (which is usually renewable)? Convert $15K to Naira. That's a whooping N5.3!!! If you are offered as high or close as this, I would suggest you see it as winning a huge competition, like the one sponsored in Nigeria by Verve and all these companies. Just imagine it. If you are not from a well-off background, this is huge. N5 is not bean-cake in today's Nigeria. And these GAs, GTAs, scholarship opportunities are like treasure. You should value it and let the value of the free-money drives your enthusiasm. If those without GA are grooming themselves morning and night for a successful interview, someone with award should do more. I know some of you are very religious and hope for favour, but yet, do your best.
Education is the US is very expensive, but if you have managed to cut out all those expenses with the offer of a GA, GTA (couple with stipend), I think you should be very, very, grateful and do all you can to secure a visa on that i-20!
I am saying this because some of you look at these scholarship on paper as "small thing." It is not; it's huge! It would be unfair to just say God bless only you , I pray God bless all that concern you too |

fairheart: lols. You don talk am finish. They get maad connect! Do you know professor Pius Adesanmi, who died recently in the Ethiopia air crash , Once upon a time, Pius Adesanmi invited his mum, Mama Adesanmi to come visit him in Canada. That was not to be because she was denied a visa to go visit her son. Pius and Mama were sad, however that didn’t deterred Mama from reapplying for the visa after a six months waiting period. Again she was denied! Mama reapplied a third time for a visa to Canada and was denied. She then told Pius that she will visit him in Canada on one condition : “If the Canadian high commission comes to her house at Ilorin and stamp her passport with the visa.” Mama was simply saying she is done with the effort of obtaining a visa to Canada after three denials. And it came to pass, that the Canada Department of Foreign Affairs invited Pius as a guest speaker for an event. Trust Pius not to waste an opportunity to vent when one presents itself. He reluctantly accepted the speaking engagement. After his lecture the Oga at the top in charge of all High Commissioners went to Pius to give him kudos for a job well done. During the tete-a-tete, Pius told the Oga that he is unable to understand why his mother was denied visa to come and visit him. Three days after the event in Toronto, a dark, heavily tinted SUV with a diplomatic plate number pulled up in front of Mama Adesanmi’s house at Ilorin. The Canadian High Commissioner sent his aides who drove all the way from Lagos to Ilorin to go and stamp Mama Adesanmi’s passport with a visa to Canada in her living room, with a letter of apology personally signed by the High Commissioner. That was how Mama’s prophesy came to pass and the people who denied her visa three times, brought the visa to her house, even when she didn’t apply for a visa. As Chinua Achebe puts it, “If a child washes his hands he could eat with kings." Pius was cool like that! Leg pass leg brother |

Okeyogwo: Good morning everyone It feels good to be here. Please I have some questions to ask friends on this platform for clarity sake.
I have been booked for an interview at the US embassy, and it happened that my form i..20 bears the name of the company whose financial documents I submitted to the school during my admission application as my sponsor. Along the line, just of recent an aunt of mine has been willing to give me her statement of account along side with a letter of sponsorship.
My question now is this, should I forgo the company's statement of account and go with my aunt's own since she is willing to be the sponsor or is it advisable to go with the both statement of account with the notion that I have two sponsors.
Then lastly, I also want to know the approach one needs to follow while going to embassy if you have a company as a sponsor?
Thanks you. This question has been answered several times , you can go with your aunty's own but just to avoid story that touch , mail the school and inform them about the sponsors change , submit your aunty statement and ask them to issue a new i20 carrying her name . |
