Good morning famz.
Please I need your guidance on how to get my provisional driving license application form filled. Please, which of the number on my BRP is the serial number?
And apart from the serial number column, do I need to fill any other thing on the form? Thanks

Your personal allowance of £12,500 e.g before tax has to be divided by 12 if you are paid monthly or by 52 if you are paid weekly for e.g. let us assume that your tax code has got a M1 or W1 at the end, it will not be accumulated if you joined your job midway through the tax year.

Example 1
Someone with tax code 1250LM1 joins 6 months into the tax year, your personal allowance will be £12,500 divided by 12 . (£1,041.67 ) before tax is deducted on a monthly basis.

Example 2
If your tax code is 1250L and you join your job 6 months into the tax year you will have to accumulate a personal income of £1,041.67x6 (£6,250), before any tax is deducted. You might end up not having any tax deducted in your first months pay.

Example 3
If your tax code is BR this means that your have another job where you have used up your personal allowance and you will not have any personal allowance in this new job, so your money will be taxed without any personal allowance.
To avoid this kind of situation you can either ask your new employer to give you a P46 to sign . On that form make sure you tick statement B stating that this is your main job. Or you can phone the HMRC with your new employer’s PAYE reference code and they will adjust it for you by sending them a tax code notification.

Also when it comes to phoning the HMRC it depends on who you talk to. Like most government departments, some of their staff are very unhelpful and try to fob you off. While you will get that one staff who will take their time to help you and explain to you in such a way that you will understand. If you get one unhelpful person hang up and phone again until you can get help. Unfortunately in my line of work we have to deal with the HMRC and most of their staff are utterly useless. Sometimes it’s like dealing with the Nigerian civil service.

Wow!!!
Thanks for taking ur time to painstakingly explain this to me. I'm so grateful. Thanks alot

Is this your first or second job?
Have you previously left a job and you have not asked for form P45?
If your employer put you on a pension scheme, total deductions can also go up
Get in touch with HMRC and let them know your primary job and if there is need to change your tax code

Thanks for the response. Actually, this is my first job, nd my accumulated income since August till now is not up to 12,000 pounds yet.
I called d HMRC to inform them abt this development, but they were giving me some unreasonable excuses that they have to divide the expected accumulated taxable income by 2 and that since my accumulated income is more than 6000 pounds presently that I have to start paying tax. This explanation is not yet clear to me though

Good evening everyone. Pls I want someone to give me a brief estimate of the percentage of tax and NI that is supposed to be deducted from the gross income of someone earning a gross amount of 860 pounds per week( working 10 hours daily on an hourly rate of 11.45 pounds) for 6 days a week.

I want to knw dis because I realize that I'm charged an exurbitant amount weekly which is more than the stated 20% I used to hear.
Thanks

Good afternoon famz.
Pls I need your help. I did sky tv installation last week with the hope that I will be able to access football channels on my tv in the UK. But to my disappointment, I have not being able to watch any football match. I realized that most matches are aired on BT sport channel which I don't have subscription for. I will have to pay additional 28pounds monthly so as to upgrade my initial 40pounds sky tv monthly subscription in order to access football channels . That is a total of 65 pounds monthly to watch football channels. Pls is there anyone here who can help me with a cheap alternative solution to dis issue. Thanks

This is wrong. You now need ATVs whether you leave the airport or not. This will be checked during the check-in/boarding process and you won't be allowed to proceed. I transited through AMS when I visited Nigeria last year and someone who was meant to be on my flight was denied boarding due to the absence of an ATV.
Luggage (except hand luggage) was not seen or handled by passengers till we got to the UK.
Pls, wat about those using Qatar airways who will have a stopover at Doha for 7hours before heading to d uk(destination point), do they also need a transit Visa even when they already have a uk visa?

Please, I would love you guys to put me through how I can get a job in the UK. I am a graduate of biochemistry with a research lab work experience of few months which I doubt will be relevant in searching for a job in the UK. Please, I just need a job so as to be able to gather money to do some courses to upgrade my Nigeria certificate. Thanks in anticipation for your prompt response.

Note, I am on a dependent visa which runs from now till 2025
