Edo State governor, Godwin Obaseki, has been endorsed for a second term, POLITICS NIGERIA exclusively gathered.

This development is coming as the rift in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is being laid to rest.

This paper reported how the rift between the national chairman, Adams Oshiomhole and Mr Obaseki, had posed a threat to his re-election as the Governor.

However, a reliable source, who is also a close ally of Mr Obaseki told this paper that since the party has made reconciliatory moves, it has agreed to return Obaseki as the Governor.

Meanwhile, when this paper reached out to the spokesperson of Obaseki, Crusoe Osagie, on Thursday, he refused to comment.

Nonetheless, he debunked allegations that Obaseki plans to join the Action Alliance (AA) since some party stakeholders were opposed to his ambition.

"They are all lies," he told our reporter.

Also, he confirmed that the National Chairman has settled scores with Mr Obaseki following the intervention of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Recall that the reinstated Deputy National Chairman, North, of the ruling All Progressives Congress APC Sen. Lawal Shuaibu, said for the party to make headway in the forthcoming governorship elections in Edo State, the incumbent governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki remained its best bet.

Mr Shuaibu who was returned to the party after the Comrade Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee NWC extended an olive branch to all officials on Wednesday, spoke to journalists about the chances of Obaseki.

Asked whether the altercation between the governor and Comrade Oshiomhole was a time bomb waiting to explode during the elections, Shuaibu said, “It is not a time bomb. We all heard President Buhari during the last NEC meeting announce that any governor who has performed deserves a second term."

Prosecutors are seeking to extend the detention of 39-year-old Ronaldinho and brother Roberto Assis, while defense lawyer Sérgio Queiroz says they should be freed because they are not a threat or flight risk.

The Brazilian brothers were arrested Friday night in a hotel in Asunción, Paraguay's capital, and accused of using false Paraguayan ID documents.
Queiroz had said Ronaldinho, the 2002 World Cup winner and former Barcelona star, was preparing to take a flight back to Rio de Janeiro, where he lives, shortly before the arrests.

Ronaldinho and Assis had said they went to Asunción for business reasons.

The former footballer and his brother said the documents were offered as a gift by a Brazilian businessman, Wilmondes Sousa Liria, who has been jailed.

Ronaldinho's passport was seized in November 2018 because of a lawsuit over alleged environmental crimes. Authorities said the former Barcelona star did not have the necessary environmental license to build a fishing platform on the shores of the Guaiba river in his hometown of Porto Alegre. With unpaid damages of $2.1 million, Ronaldinho's passport was seized, along with that of his brother, to prevent him from traveling.

In September of last year, however, the star reached a deal with prosecutors and got his documents back. It was not immediately clear why he and his brother did not use their Brazilian documents for the trip to Paraguay.

Pls who can help us in ughoton community okpe local gvt area just 3km from warri refinery. The former governor of the state Emmanuel Uduaghan has a girl friend who owns a pig farm in the community. She discharges pig shit in adjacent lands by people's houses and this has caused serious air and water pollution in the community. Several attempts to get her to construct sewage tank and treat the pig waste has proved abortive. She has bribed the useless elders of the community and asks landlord who meet her to "go and die". Delta state ministry of health and environment are forming deaf and dumb each time their attention is called to this problem. Pls any body who can help us should come to our aid, we need help, we are dying of smell and water pollution, our properties are wasting away since people don't want to hire them.
