Biafran4life: I don't get why Dan cement will go to seek money from the bond Market when they have plenty retained earnings which some oga call oxygen. There might be some reason for this,I would do same if selling bonds is cheaper. You know the retained earnings are mostly invested in other securities. What if the bulk of the retained earnings is currently bringing in 12% interest and this new bonds are for like 8% interest? |

onegentleguy: I couldn't find the link to the 2 articles I read in the past on how the make-up of the body mechanism of Africans give them a slight edge as it concerns covid-19. ...one of which I recall, was even from a medical journal. Will post it as soon as I can find it.
On the part about the role the wheather(high temperature) plays in cushioning the impact of the virus, there is NO doubting that. ...Google is ur friend. Even in the western world, they are praying that summer comes in earnest.(even POTUS and Dr fauci mentioned it in one of their press briefing) Different scientists have also emphatically stated that the current impact from the virus wouldn't have being much felt if the breakout hadn't started out around the winter period. They say the wheather would have at least helped limit the level of impact on humans. ...again, Google is ur friend !! That's what has played out in Africe my dear. Are blacks in the USA made up of a different body mechanism than what we have in Africa? Coronavirus is infecting and killing black people in the United States at disproportionately high rates. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/04/07/us/coronavirus-race.htmlUAE is far hotter than Finland or lets say Greece and yet UAE with over 8500 case, Finland at 4000 and Greece at 2400 cases. By tomorrow or next Nigeria will have recorded more than a 1000 case. It is too early to make such conclusions. |

BAMOFIN1: @all two quick questions: 1) do you know whether some traders trade on the NSE using computer algorithm as they do in the US? 2) do you know if there is any stock tracker/software specifically for trading on the NSE (aside from the not too good yochaa on play store) which can alert me whenever a preselected stock has reached a predetermined price range? Thanks. If you know python you can implement it using selenium and some other web scraping modules. You can code it to run on top online platforms like Morgan Capital. Assuming it is not popular on NSE you can have am advantage sha. I am currently learning candlesticks patterns and after that some other TA tools. When I am through I might try to write some code to automate trades. |

wuwu2: I am just trying to learn TA having followed @bbm and @fxuser on this forum for a year now. I just looked at zenith charts and my impressions; After a serious gap down in March, it had since formed a strong support at 10.64. From April, however, it has been on an uptrend. This differs from the general downtrend @meshpips showed. The current most likely support, should it fall again, is at 13.48 and 12.62 respectively. The current uptrend should it continue, should reach a decision point at 16.98 (I suppose that's why @oracle expects price to reach 17. Now from here, the possibilities are to break the resistance, which if it does, it's likely to have a consolidation around there, with a gradual continuation pattern for the uptrend. The other possibility is 16.98 forms a new resistance, and it reverts to support at 13.48. What do you think? @meshpips, @oracle, @bbm, @fxuser NB...strictly for academic purposes Please where can I get access to these charts, any website or service ? Thank you. |

meshpips: Greetings everyone,
if you currently have ZENITH shares in your holding, please do well to sell it off between 15.89 (price already touched this level) last week and 16.35 region.
I expect price to sell off and retest the 11.90 support and possibly deeper in the sub- ten level before we can see further buying.
All the best everyone! Nice chart, is it a paid service? |

pluto09: If you are outside Lagos, you can submit through your banks though it may take time. It is advisable you start the process as early as possible not necessarily when dividend has been declared. Some banks are very helpful and responsive.
Some registrars are easy and straightforward, the e-dividend mandate will get activated with just the e-dividend form. Some are not that simple and they will ask for signature specimen, you will need your broker for help with these ones. Some registrars are difficult and non responsive, they will not pick your calls nor reply your mails, you will need wisdom and time to get through with those ones. Thank you sir. Do you have any Idea in what category is Veritas Registrars (difficulty of registration, I live very far from Lagos)? I noticed they cover zenith bank shares. It is like I will only be keeping selected companies for dividend collection (one or two), since registration can be difficult. I assume someone can make close to the dividend yield by entering the market somehow near the dividend payment period and exit just before it. |

Justcul: Based on point 3 Firstregistras are the best in my opinion. I had first hand experience with them. Africaprudential on the other hand demanded for specimen through my brokers and therefore made it difficult for me to get my dividends, since I live far away at the moment. Did you submit your forms by email through your broker? |

He will deny it if there's sanction o. Lol. Hi Mcy56, please can you give a summary of the requirements for e-dividend. I heard it requires a current account, is that true? Does it take very long to process? Do I need to repeat same process for each individual share? Do I have to present the form in person, or can I do it electronically? |

Tvegas: The shares you bought are "Ordinary Shares" not Preference shares or Debenture(Bond) hence you have little or no say in this matter. We should study the weaknesses inherent in the assets we hold to have a balanced investment philosophy. I also recall how Stockwatch marketed this as the next best thing in those days.
If there is room to bargain higher or institute a court case shareholders should please do that but i doubt if it wont be a fruitless exercise. At the end investors should learn the lessons hidden here and move on. I don't think what you wrote there is correct as described in this excerpt from investopedia, I know it is the American way but I am sure in Nigeria common shareholder's rights would not be too different. Common Shareholders’ Main Rights 1. Voting Power on Major Issues. Voting power includes electing directors and proposals for fundamental changes affecting the company such as mergers or liquidation. Voting takes place at the company’s annual meeting. If the shareholder cannot attend, they can do so by proxy and mail in their vote.1 2. Ownership in a Portion of the Company. Previously, we discussed a corporate liquidation where bondholders and preferred shareholders are paid first. However, when business thrives, common shareholders own a piece of something that has value. Common shareholders have a claim on a portion of the assets owned by the company. As these assets generate profits and as the profits are reinvested in additional assets, shareholders see a return as the value of their shares increases as stock prices rise.2 3. The Right to Transfer Ownership. The right to transfer ownership means shareholders are allowed to trade their stock on an exchange. The right to transfer ownership might seem mundane, but the liquidity provided by stock exchanges is important. Liquidity—the degree to which an asset or security can be quickly bought or sold in the market without affecting the asset’s price—is one of the key factors that differentiate stocks from an investment such as real estate. If an investor owns the property, it can take months to convert that investment into cash. Because stocks are so liquid, investors can move their money into other places almost instantaneously.2 4. An Entitlement to Dividends. Along with a claim on assets, investors also receive a claim to any profits the company pays out in the form of a dividend. Management of a company essentially has two options with profits: they can be reinvested back into the firm (thus, one hopes, increasing the company’s overall value) or paid out in the form of a dividend. Investors do not have a say as to what percentage of profits should be paid out—the board of directors decides this. However, whenever dividends are declared, common shareholders are entitled to receive their share.2 5. Opportunity to Inspect Corporate Books and Records. Shareholders have the right to examine basic documents such as company bylaws and minutes of board meetings. In addition, the Securities and Exchange Act of 1934 requires public companies to periodically disclose financials.3 Most companies produce two versions of their annual report. The 10-K version must follow the filing requirements set by the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).4 6. The Right to Sue for Wrongful Acts. Suing a company typically takes the form of a shareholder class-action lawsuit.5 For example, Worldcom faced a firestorm of shareholder class-action suits in 2002 when it was discovered that the company had grossly overstated earnings giving shareholders and investors an erroneous view of its financial health.6 |
