Lisa Quast, CONTRIBUTOR Mar 6, 2017 4:00 AM You attended the party of a long-time friend and ran into a lot of people from high school that you hadn’t seen in years. During chit-chat over appetizers and drinks, you could feel the friendly competition heating up. While comparing career accomplishments, you were shocked to learn that the kid from school with the genius IQ, the one all the teachers thought would be spectacularly successful, had struggled with his career. How could this be, you wondered. This was the person everyone thought would invent something that would change the world. It turns out that intelligence might not be the best indicator of future success. According to psychologist Angela Duckworth, the secret to outstanding achievement isn’t talent. Instead, it’s a special blend of persistence and passion that she calls “grit.” Duckworth has spent years studying people, trying to understand what it is that makes high achievers so successful. And what she found surprised even her. It wasn’t SAT scores. It wasn’t IQ scores. It wasn’t even a degree from a top-ranking business school that turned out to be the best predictor of success. “It was this combination of passion and perseverance that made high achievers special,” Duckworth said. “In a word, they had grit.” Being gritty, according to Duckworth, is the ability to persevere. It’s about being unusually resilient and hardworking, so much so that you’re willing to continue on in the face of difficulties, obstacles and even failures. It’s about being constantly driven to improve. In addition to perseverance, being gritty is also about being passionateabout something. For the highly successful, Duckworth found that the journey was just as important as the end result. “Even if some of the things they had to do were boring, or frustrating, or even painful, they wouldn’t dream of giving up. Their passion was enduring.” What her research demonstrated is that it wasn’t natural talent that made the biggest difference in who was highly successful and who wasn’t – it was more about effort than IQ. Duckworth even came up with two equations she uses to explain this concept: • Talent x effort = skill • Skill x effort = achievement “Talent is how quickly your skills improve when you invest effort. Achievement is what happens when you take your acquired skills and use them,” Duckworth explained. As you can see from the equations, effort counts twice. That’s why IQ and SAT scores aren’t a good indicator of someone’s future success. It’s because those scores are missing the most important part of the equation – the person’s effort level or what Duckworth calls their “grittiness” factor (their level of persistence and passion). What does that mean for you? It means that it’s OK if you aren’t the smartest person in the room or the smartest person in the job. It means the effort you expend toward your goals (perseverance) and your dedication throughout your career journey (passion) are what matter more than how you scored on your SAT or an IQ test. Why? Because grit will always trump talent. Or as Duckworth notes, “Our potential is one thing. What we do with it is quite another.” Culled from Forbes.com |

By Ryan Whitwam on July 7, 2017 China is known as the home of the endangered and adorable panda, and now there’s a new panda that could be spreading to the whole world. Only this one doesn’t eat bamboo — it eats sunlight. A company called Panda Green Energy has built a solar panel array that looks like a giant panda. It’s the cutest power plant you’ve ever seen, and the company wants to start building them in other parts of the world. The grid is located in Datong, a city in the northern province of Shanxi. It covers about 248 acres (1 square kilometer), making it a respectably large solar power facility. There are plenty larger ones, including the Tengger Desert Solar plant, which has a size of 43 square kilometers. The largest one in the US is just 13 square kilometers in area. The power generation capacity of the panda array is 100MW, about what you’d expect from a solar power farm of this size. That’s enough juice to power more than 8,000 homes. The creators hope it will generate 3.2 billion kWh of power in the next 25 years. That’s the equivalent of burning more than one million tons of coal. As for how it was made to look like a panda, that’s thanks to the clever use of two different solar panel technologies. The lighter panels are thin film photovoltaic (PV) cells, and the darker ones are monocrystalline silicon PV cells. The result is a happy panda sitting on a plateau. The solar power farm was built with the help of the United Nation Development Program (UNDP), which has focused heavily on promoting renewable energy to China’s youth. The nation’s rapid industrialization in recent decades has led to severe environmental consequences. In fact, the UNDP and Panda Green Energy will run a summer camp in August for Chinese teenagers. Panda Green Energy is currently working on building a second panda solar array at the same site, but it also wants to expand to other locations. Early plans are in place to deploy panda solar arrays in Fiji and the Philippines. It aims to build 100 such solar power facilities around the world in the next five years. Of course, not all areas are suitable for solar power because of climate and lack of infrastructure. Solar power doesn’t always get as much support as traditional forms of energy. But really, who can object to such a cute power plant? Culled from www.extremetech.com/

Let's do d math, principal, P=5,000,000 assumed interest, I=15% add 200,000k yearly. for 20 years 200,000k is 200,000/5,000,000=0.04 of P =5,000,000*(1+0.15+0.04)^20 =162,147,117.3 for 10 years =5,000,000*(1+0.15+0.04)^10 =28,473,418.9 |
ihedioramma:for compound interest, 1,000,000 * (1+15%)^10=4,045,557.7 break down, assuming u get same 15% yearly, that's 1+0.15 of your principal, P. 2 years would be (1+0.15)(1+0.15) of P 10 years would be (1+0.15)^10 of P |
Keld Jensen, CONTRIBUTOR Albert Einstein’s was estimated at 160, Madonna’s is 140, and John F. Kennedy’s was only 119, but as it turns out, your IQ score pales in comparison with your EQ, MQ, and BQ scores when it comes to predicting your success and professional achievement. IQ tests are used as an indicator of logical reasoning ability and technical intelligence. A high IQ is often a prerequisite for rising to the top ranks of business today. It is necessary, but it is not adequate to predict executive competence and corporate success. By itself, a high IQ does not guarantee that you will stand out and rise above everyone else. Research carried out by the Carnegie Institute of Technology shows that 85 percent of your financial success is due to skills in “human engineering,” your personality and ability to communicate, negotiate, and lead. Shockingly, only 15 percent is due to technical knowledge. Additionally, Nobel Prize winning Israeli-American psychologist, Daniel Kahneman, found that people would rather do business with a person they like and trust rather than someone they don’t, even if the likeable person is offering a lower quality product or service at a higher price. With this in mind, instead of exclusively focusing on your conventional intelligence quotient, you should make an investment in strengthening your EQ (Emotional Intelligence), MQ (Moral Intelligence), and BQ (Body Intelligence). These concepts may be elusive and difficult to measure, but their significance is far greater than IQ. Emotional Intelligence EQ is the most well known of the three, and in brief it is about: being aware of your own feelings and those of others, regulating these feelings in yourself and others, using emotions that are appropriate to the situation, self-motivation, and building relationships. Top Tip for Improvement: First, become aware of your inner dialogue. It helps to keep a journal of what thoughts fill your mind during the day. Stress can be a huge killer of emotional intelligence, so you also need to develop healthy coping techniques that can effectively and quickly reduce stress in a volatile situation. Moral Intelligence MQ directly follows EQ as it deals with your integrity, responsibility, sympathy, and forgiveness. The way you treat yourself is the way other people will treat you. Keeping commitments, maintaining your integrity, and being honest are crucial to moral intelligence. Top Tip for Improvement: Make fewer excuses and take responsibility for your actions. Avoid little white lies. Show sympathy and communicate respect to others. Practice acceptance and show tolerance of other people’s shortcomings. Forgiveness is not just about how we relate to others; it’s also how you relate to and feel about yourself. Body Intelligence Lastly, there is your BQ, or body intelligence, which reflects what you know about your body, how you feel about it, and take care of it. Your body is constantly telling you things; are you listening to the signals or ignoring them? Are you eating energy-giving or energy-draining foods on a daily basis? Are you getting enough rest? Do you exercise and take care of your body? It may seem like these matters are unrelated to business performance, but your body intelligence absolutely affects your work because it largely determines your feelings, thoughts, self-confidence, state of mind, and energy level. Top Tip For Improvement: At least once a day, listen to the messages your body is sending you about your health. Actively monitor these signals instead of going on autopilot. Good nutrition, regular exercise, and adequate rest are all key aspects of having a high BQ. Monitoring your weight, practicing moderation with alcohol, and making sure you have down time can dramatically benefit the functioning of your brain and the way you perform at work. What You Really Need To Succeed It doesn’t matter if you did not receive the best academic training from a top university. A person with less education who has fully developed their EQ, MQ, and BQ can be far more successful than a person with an impressive education who falls short in these other categories. Yes, it is certainly good to be an intelligent, rational thinker and have a high IQ; this is an important asset. But you must realize that it is not enough. Your IQ will help you personally, but EQ, MQ, and BQ will benefit everyone around you as well. If you can master the complexities of these unique and often under-rated forms of intelligence, research tells us you will achieve greater success and be regarded as more professionally competent and capable. culled from forbes.com |
Darkness falls across the land The midnite hour is close at hand Creatures crawl in search of blood To terrorize y'awl's neighborhood And whosoever shall be found Without the soul for getting down Must stand and face the hounds of hell And rot inside a corpse's shell The foulest stench is in the air The funk of forty thousand years And grizzly ghouls from every tomb Are closing in to seal your doom And though you fight to stay alive Your body starts to shiver For no mere mortal can resist The evil of the thriller hahahaha haha hahaha!!! |

Another from The Bravery, Time won't let me go. "Whenever I look back on the best days of my life I think I saw them all on T.V. I am so homesick now for someone that I never knew. I am so homesick now for someplace I will never be Time won't let me go. If I could do it all again I'd go back and change everything, but time won't let me go I never had a 'Summer of 69' Never had a date of my own. All these precious moments you promised me would come in time. So where was I when I missed mine? Time won't let me go. If you gave me back those years I'd do it all better I swear Time won't let me go. Ba ba ba ba ba... If I could go back once again, I would change everything, yeah. If I could go back once again I'd do it all so much better. Time won't let me go. Time won't let me go. If I could do it all again. I'd go back and change everything. But you won't ever let me go." |
Hi, it's remarkable how these lyrics by The Bravery define my current state of mind, you can see for your selves. "Sometimes I feel like I wanna leave this place for good, under the ground. I'll live down there without a sound, and never hear these hissing voices all the same. I'll disappear cause living makes me feel ashamed. I must believe, there's more above us and below I must believe, stranded with this bitch called hope, it keeps me here when all I wanna do is go. It keeps me here when all I wanna do is disappear if this is it, all we have and ever will. If this is it, time is running out and I am standing still, i'll leave today cause there's nothing left to keep me here, I'll fade away, I'll turn my back and disappear." It's a recurring theme since I set foot here in nija, since I was a teen. I am much older now and it's the same thing. How can you explain a grown ass man longing for his preteen years, who enjoy listening to themes from my all-time favorite cartoons; rensi la strega, sasuke un piccolo guerriero, l'uomo tigre, occhi di ghatto, Ken il guerriero, i cavalieri dello zodiaco, vultus cinque, l'ape magga and so many others, I am past 30... |
