CrimeRe: Amotekun Kills Two Kidnappers In Oyo by othermen: 7:56am On Aug 01, 2021
Our law enforcement officers would do better if they arrest the criminals or disable them in a confrontation without necessarily seeking to oust their lives.

Extrajudicial killing seem very much on the rise.

The officers life is sacrosanct, and often there is threat to their lives, but the threat should be managed reasonably. An apprehended suspect don’t have to be killed, a kidnapper wounded and in your care, don’t have to be shot in the head.

Responsibility must be demanded, should they exercise the irreversible force of taking a life, even a kidnapper still has right to life.

An officer can kill the person that has granted him a loan, and tag such person a kidnapper. Or even a young fellow whose only crime is living better and claim he is a cultist.

We can do better.

Science/TechnologyRe: Youverify Launches Youid, An All-in-one Security And Lifestyle App by othermen: 9:48am On Jul 26, 2021
Nigeria is very hostile to the youth. Most authorities (police etc) that request your identity card are willing to disregard your privacy. Now that you are presenting your phone as a means to check your Id, you may be creating an avenue for them to exploit you, they can’t afford your phone sadly and would be interested in how you afforded it or interested in the amount in your bank account.

For other institutions like banks, they often need a copy of your Id. They may equally be hostile. I hope this concerns are addressed. It is sure a great idea.
PoliticsRe: Why Sunday Igboho Cannot Be Extradited Without Due Process, By Femi Falana by othermen: 10:05am On Jul 25, 2021
This is a country where DSS laid siege on the National Assembly and raided judges and justices home in the deep of the night, kidnapping them with no recourse to common sense or decency.

I’m sure Mr Falana SAN know these things.

PoliticsRe: Burial Of Hassan Ahmed, Army General Who Was Murdered In Abuja by othermen:
Maybe the general was after the bandit so much, that the bandits and terrorist apologist co sponsors in the high places- gave him away.

May God’s comfort be with the family.

It is perhaps those that killed the seminarian, Michael Nnadi and others the other day that now wait, ambushing generals. That's what happens when you look away, the bandits are only attacking christians, one day, they will be hungry for your blood too.

When Nigerians protested against insecurity, it was the military that shot the protesters down. I hope the Nigeria military comb the whole of the road and apprehend the culprit and also apprehend the circumstances that created the culprits.

If only the military protected Nigerians when they wanted good enough, the general would be alive.
Nairaland GeneralRe: What Kind Of Landlord Are You Trapped With? Share Your Experiences. by othermen: 6:51am On Jul 10, 2021
You’re actually not trapped when he is asking you to go. He might have taken a loan or mortgage to get the house, he has obligations too.

Next time, when you want assist, do less inculpating. It is not your landlords’ fault that you are not meeting your obligations to him or your obligation to your employer. Than it is anybody’s fault, your whole situation seems as a result of your mindset.

You should reevaluate your approach and reset your mindset and stop seeking validation for your own failings and hoping for an education in how to be irresponsible to your landlord.

If you get your request today; with that mindset, you will be here again next year and sadly with that mindset, you may not see the value of this, how it is worth more than your rent; but then in the least, it teaches you what not to dwell upon, when your purpose is to seek help.

Zuma’s disrespect is one thing. In China, he’ll get the chair for his corruption.
There has to be accountability! And I pray Bubu will be alive to face his own music, to answer for those killed on his watch, simply because they want good enough, to answer for the judges intimidated in the dead of the night, to answer for DSS recklessness and disregard for the dignity of human lives. That is Bubu’s legacy and he and his cohort shall face the music, not merely in posterity.
Foreign AffairsRe: "Presumed Assassins" Of President Jovenel Moise Arrested In Haiti by othermen: 7:48am On Jul 08, 2021
Almost misleading is misleading. The real story is the so called suspects have been killed. And the real question is why kill them when you are yet to retrieve information about their sponsor? And the answer is, it is just a cover up, to a high profile political assassination.

Christianity EtcRe: Methodist Church Nigeria Cuts Ties UK Counterparts Over Support For Gay Marriage by othermen: 7:00am On Jul 03, 2021
Importantly.
PoliticsRe: Methodist Church Votes To Allow Same-sex Marriages by othermen:
I think it is wrong to impose your preference upon another and that is why I am much uncomfortable with the practices in Africa where homosexuals are pronounced criminals and convicted. Homosexuality is most prevalent in our prisons anyway and such action is not only counterproductive but evil as well. I think adults should be allowed to do whatever they want as regards their sexuality insofar consensual and the law should protect them.

As a believer however, I am much disappointed in the position of the Methodist church. The church should be courageous enough to tell people having such tendencies or attraction that it’s a sin which as all sins negates the desire of God and offends him.
The church should have open doors however , welcoming those with such tendencies, having a therapeutic exercise with them in a bid to cure them of such tendencies. The hospital is made for the sick and so should our churches.

We must be warm to sinners, and pray God shows mercy to them as He has shown to us... but allowing the church to become the altar of what God has called forbidden is reckless and shows the prevalence of the world in the church, than God in the church. It gives false hope to the offenders of God’s will, and permeates a culture in the church, that it is normal to have such attraction or preference.

As the church goes south, and the instrument of the gospel becomes more worldly, and the heart of the gospel is sourced in the acceptance of the world; there would continue to be such dangerous and reckless compromises.

How many churches in Nigeria in solidarity against TB Joshua ban from YouTube for calling homosexuals as demonically possessed, suspended their own YouTube account?

It is so, too with Twitter, which increasingly is made the new church, where a tweet about the commandment of God is considered offensive and has severe consequences but yet our fathers in the Lord remain there, compromising in a bid for its acceptance.
CelebritiesRe: TAMPAN: I Can Never Be Silenced - Iyabo Ojo Reacts by othermen:
I admire the courage of both ladies and hope that justice is served on the accused.

I am also glad they are calling out the immoral and atrocious habit in the movie industry; where established actors demand aspiring thespians offer their bodies or dignity in exchange for movie roles. I hope they are courageous enough to mention names.

Their decision to confront the perversion may cost them their existence or rank in the industry, but not their laudable standing in posterity or goodwill.

That said, I also understand the disposition of the association.

I don't think the association leadership is demanding that she/they be quiet.

Rather, the association has condemned the behaviour of the accused.

I think what the association want is that both actress cease the advertisement of the obvious equivalence they embolden to the public between the accused and many in the industry.

The leadership has the responsibility to demand that both actors stop asserting that the behaviour of the accused is popular among members of the industry on the basis of their members choice to be quiet or on the basis that their silence may infer, the fellow is only accused, not convicted and that the video evidence has not done for them, enough convincing.

That position of the leadership is what any reasonable leadership will do; not look away, not acknowledge, not incline any position that is detrimental to the association or its members, not even promising a scrutiny.

The association would look inwards however, if specific names are mentioned and this will be better, than the very noisy vandalism of the association's non existent reputation.

CrimeRe: One reported Dead, Vehicles Broken-in As Robbers Attack Motorists On Long Bridge by othermen:
Crazy times.

I was in the food market recently and if you have been there too, you would see the many families that now struggle to eat a meal daily.

Actually, it is beginning to be so with the Nigeria average family- these Buhari days, eating more than ones is a luxury only the wealthy can afford. Even the staple garri.

So these boys on the bridge are victims, they left home, in search of jobs to support their families- but there are no jobs. Even those with postgraduate degrees are applying to be assistants and drivers and still are unemployed...

but then these boys I have earlier called victims soon graduate from being victims to becoming notorious terror themselves; creating too for many, worse situations than that which produced them.

They are available for the sustaining of the politicians that put them in those situations; it is some of them, attacking those who demanded more equity from the government, it is some of them, hijacking it, it is these boys that will be used to kill or maim their messiahs.

So initially, the boys in order to survive take on crimes... but sadly, rather than rob those who made them impoverished (the politicians and their sponsors), they rob those like their fathers, struggling to put a meal on the table for their families, they maim them.

The driver that is maimed or ‘robbed’ loses his job. His own young son has to drop out of school and join the road too. Luckily, he is lynched in his first attempt by the experienced robbers, who now find their vocation becoming congested.

It goes on and on... till there are many robbers than their are to be robbed... while the policeman in order to afford a living rent out his gun for the night to the boys.
CelebritiesRe: Adetutu OJ Rants About Her Daughter's Religious Assignments (Pix) by othermen:
Doing religious studies doesn’t mean you are being indoctrinated with a certain belief.

What CRS taught me that year was reconciliation, forgiveness, fortitude, charity and tolerance. I think these virtues exist in other religions as well... in Islam, in the Odu Ifá. The purpose of education is to expose us to that which we do not know, to help us have an understanding or enlightenment and make us more accepting... and those that cannot listen to others or to the contrary are not yet educated and that is why I think that Mrs Adetutu's concern should be listened to as well.

However, having listened, I cannot commend her activism, as it lacks premises or reason... but even the absence of such premises or reason shouldn't be the basis of disrespecting another's view. While I think her request should be respected, I hope she allows herself to be informed of the likely consequences of her action which sadly it is her child suffering. Such consequence includes but is not limited to the insight the little girl would be losing but also the opportunities that such knowledge or evidence of such knowledge affords. The little girl however may be made to take an hybrid civil & moral education class to lessen the lack or withdrawn from the school altogether and taken to that which suits the backward, retarding and hindering definition of education that Mrs Adetutu has.
