Corruption starts from the little places. Our willingness to pay in order to jump a queue or access a service or eliminate whatever challenge.

Sadly, your experience is not a strange one to many here. I only pray that we become very courageous to set right the wrong that we see.

If you demand accountability and insist there would be no place for such misbehavior as you have experienced... and you allow them to understand how you can escalate it all and how it is a criminal behavior, their actions, the rest of us, the not so exposed, may learn courage from you...and the fellows there would behave appropriately at least if not to others, to you and yours alone.

In this country, we the people make things difficult for each other. And that is why there is little hope for the nation, as selflessness and steadfast courage against the inadequate is not a virtue we are instilled or inculcated.

CelebritiesRe: Asa: Why I’m Not Married Yet by othermen:
It is probably because you have built walls around yourself.
However if you let love in or ever experienced it in its full, then you would know there is nothing as desirable as it.
We make choices, and we make them based on our knowledge or affection and in your case, principles- that you have become enslaved to.
With the right person, marriage enhances. It is never the elimination of you and it doesn't have to be the elimination of your space.
But that shouldn't even be your fear. If it is, we both know it is false fear.
Your salvation is getting someone stronger than yourself, that loves you regardless or that can oust whatever passion in that private time of yours with his presence. But that is your fear and that is why you have walls and maybe you cannot even attract such in the many distractions you encounter.

One day we all wake up expired.
RomanceRe: Here's Why I Avoid Working Under Female Bosses! by othermen:
There is nothing wrong with female bosses. The issue is most of us have upbringings where we are wired to expect women to be quiet or in the uttermost, agreeable.

It is more about our normalisation and to take direction from women or report to the same is untypical and this often colors our interaction.

The woman understands this very well, she had similar upbringing, that it is a society where competence or achievement is secondary to gender and she has to respond to this hostility by sometimes being defensive; sadly other times, she comes across as difficult or demanding.

But if you are competent in what you are assigned and diligent as well and respectful as well- to everyone. You may overcome whatever insecurity there may be, as often the insecurity is from you, the man.

How is trump a dictator though? The media spins his desire to protect Americans from looting and anarchy as dictatorial tendencies. Trump is not a dictator. Rather, he allowed the rule of law. He allowed CNN to unendingly harass him, twitter could restrict his reach , he had power but didn't use it.

We know dictators. They shot at peaceful protesters in Lekki.
Foreign AffairsRe: See What Will Happen If Trump Refuses To Vacate Office. by othermen:
Trump had over 70 million votes. Both candidates have record votes. He is demanding probity; aside having a right to do so, he has reasons to with the report of voting systems malfunctioning in some counties.

The media has emboldened folks to be corrupt with the votes, anything to get the orange man out is fair and good-+ even if that includes ballot rigging. I hope it is not so and ensuring it is not so, is to have a reexamination and some recounts.

Trump is popular across the world, and he had a remarkable presidency. Neomarxians have not done the education Trumpism has inculcated through his interesting relationship with the media. Did he start a war? He brought nations together, nations that have been historically hostile and how was the economy before the pandemic?

And the pandemic is the only campaign against him. Black folks were shot by police during Obama's time too. Wanting law and order shouldn't be an evidence of racism.

China approaches. I hope we all get strength for real issues anyway; I am Nigerian. Let us talk about our own.

EducationRe: Opinion: Many Nairalanders Are Bad Advisors? by othermen:
Many engineer's now work in peripheral operations in the bank; the teller you met yesterday is likely one. nothing is wrong in being a teller.

Requires additional resources such as contacts to do good with a law degree these days; many young lawyers are trying to get into the HR profession. Sons of SANs such as Falz knows there is more to reach and earn in the entertainment industry.

My doctor does freelance to sustain himself. Those with means have left the country. For years now, he hasn't earned above 400 dollars a month. The few lucky ones get good shot in parastatals or multinationals. My other female doctor friends now sell hair, body creams and bags to support all.

Many of the economists I know, work in customer service in the bank. Ask five customer service officers you meet, 3 of them had a degree in economics, and a good grade at that.

Many do not have knowledge about the demands of the labor market or what the labor market values and they are inculcated by the prestige attached to their discipline, which makes them also foolishly conceited - as it limits their chances for something good or great.

Prestigious discipline won't feed you. If you are not extraordinary or from a background where such discipline is grounded, you will have a lots of struggling to contend.

If you are a young person; do a little asking around, go to a court, observe the lawyers, ask a lawyer, 'I am considering Law, what are the challenges I might face in terms of building a career, ask them what course they would rather have taken or done' attend a career class, where you meet HR professionals; enquire from that Medical Doctor, he will likely tell you about that his laboratory scientist friend that he may refer you to outside his own employ, makes more sense financially.

And yes, young doctors these days are taught to generate revenue for their private clinics; they will give drugs you don't need, require you to do meaningless tests...and if you appear rich, they might sustain whatever difficulty that made you approach them.

Again, in addition to coming on this platform to ask about what to do with your career, also meet real people out there already in the field or labor market. When you see some individuals with first class, searching for jobs for years, or you see a discipline professionals trying to get out of the country- it is a reference to your own future experience.

Ask questions and don't go with the whole nonsense that a course is prestigious because it is professional, but know that often because it is professional, those that do have very limited opportunities. Be humble, be friendly and do good within your reach and the good will seek you out. That carpenter friend or tailor, stay in touch with them, advise them on branding, introduce them to others, become their business partners.

Consider disciplines that trains you to become entrepreneurs as well. As op suggested you can already have a big fish farm with tens of individuals in your employ before concluding your degree in fishery for instance. Don't allow the illusion of prestigious derail you.

The campaign against Mr Tinubu continues.

In a sane country, the prison would be his only protector from being lynched.

Have no sympathy for these looters whatever their color or allegiance may be. Be sure, none of them is on your side, have your interest or gives a hoot about you and I hope everyone of them goes down and they will.

They have ruined our nation; and they are set to ruining next whatever future there may be.

The money that could have been put to equip the medical clinic or school in your constituency; they have wasted on one bottle of wine and siphoned to their bullion van masters.
EducationRe: Doctor Or Lawyer Which Profession Has More Intelligent People by othermen:
What makes one intelligent is not the profession than it is the individual's personal achievement. Becoming a doctor requires good mental ability but there is more complexity in engineering or becoming an astronaut than there is in medicine.

When you meet a certified accountant or economist, some physicist or even a neomarxist...you would appreciate the quality of other disciplines as you have appreciated that of law. But again, there are obtuse lawyers too and medical doctors that make terrible decisions in the simplest of things.

Think too, artists(painters, authors, composers) pioneers, inventors...the Nobel laureates, the Goethe's, Einstein's...

So again, the measure of intelligence is not the profession than it is the individual's personal quest for it. At the basic, you find both the medical and law profession demanding but the accomplishment of either is not an assurance of intelligence. It can be an assurance of capacity as most educational attainments are.

Foreign AffairsRe: Macron Calls On Europe To Quit Dependency On US Arms by othermen:
Europe should be an adult already.

Trump's America foreign policy is looking like an emphasis on its own domestic problems and inadequacy. The UK made a similar choice in the 20th century.

It is costly to be the world superpower and when the position had better returns, and Europe and its racist ideology scrambled and partitioned Africa, and looted and derived all they could- they yet knew the cost, when the war came.

The war is coming.

America may burn from inside looking at the extremism from the left and the unhinged media seeking to see it burn. There are powerful nations that can be sponsors to this. 'See China' China has the intelligence to be.

This would be America's primary distraction from those who want Trump's America to protect them yet wouldn't meet their obligation to NATO. China can take the place of America, promising security. Europe shifts a little knowing the tendencies of China.

China is approaching the resurrection of Genghis Khan; and again it would be the superior race.

Soon the repercusion of migration will begin as the seeds of Islam is awaken, and it will spread its tentacles as it should, where there shall be none except Almighty Allah.

Europe would regret its contention with America about IRAN, when IRAN gets its nuclear weapon and thereafter destabilise the region in its quest to tyrannize and subjugate the middle east- then save el zakzaky and empower him to be emperor over its Nigeria's crusade of Shia. ISIS would be a friend of the west but iran's might will crush it. And though IRAN would be the first force but China would still be standing from a distance, the only liberator, in its time to dominate the world. That dominates, liberates.
As China and Islam is like potassium and water. China would require our liberty and subjugation to liberate us. The US would still be in flames, and Europe will be a protectorate of China.

Learn Chinese language today.

martineverest:
do u even know what Amazon looks like at all?....obudu got European vegetation and climate
Obudu and Amazon are both tropicals. But tropical whathuh

Amazon is a tropical rainforest, but it also has grassland or savannahs. Check out the “Amazonian Savannahs or grasslands” .

Obudu has rainforests, savannah/grassland too.

Referring to Obudu as a tropical, is in reference to its mountainous forest. It is situated on a plateau.

If we are making references to how far they are from the equator; on that latitude, we still don’t have a feature to distinguish it from being tropical as Obudu is situated within the tropical climate zone; you may disagree and however genuine you may, the plateaus in Amazon still have more in common to be comparable and it’s what they have in common that has been the basis of the comparison.

Amazon is primarily flat and low-lying, but it’s very large(6.7M square KM), that the plateaus it has from the Guiana highlands, to those on the Brazilian highlands cover a far much more vast area than Obudu (400-1600 square KM) where only about (40 square KM) is a plateau. The plateaus in Amazon (2000M) also have higher elevations than that of Obudu(1500M)

Obudu is situated within the tropical climate zone. It’s not a temperate grassland, it’s instead a tropical mountain resort. Can a tropical mountain resort have a grassland?? Yes. On the Obudu plateau, you will find the montane grassland. You will also find the same grassland in the Amazon.

Why are folks so arrogantly ignorant? and what is even European vegetation and climate? Basic knowledge will tell you Europe is a continent with diverse places and diverse climate and all... varying between the southern and the rest... but again...
TravelRe: Obudu Mountain Resort Looks Like Europe But Nigerians Don't Value Their Own by othermen:
Simplyleo:
Yes, to a human being with brain who values his own, it is even prettier than Europe.

This is about nature, not technology.

A human being with a working brain is more comfortable in an environment where he is treated as a human than where he is seen as a gorilla. undecided
If anyone is interested in seeing scenic places and landscape, Europe is not the second or third choice. Australia, New Zealand, the South America and even Asia 'are' comparable and comes to mind; that is the idea behind my earlier remark.

That it makes no sense to compare Obudu to Europe in that sense, and of coz you have amazing landscape there too, I mean in Europe but when folks here go to Europe, they are not going there to see landscapes.

And to say it is prettier because it is Nigeria makes little sense, appreciating landscape and nature goes beyond that and one can be objective in one's judgment notwithstanding and that is what Obudu needs, objective assessment.

And even you Sir, won't turn down the opportunity to move out of here. There are some who see this place as a zoo and would take their chances with being seen as a gorilla, than the challenges or threat to life, they suffer here. but again, not my point.

Like Europe? Not like the Amazon?

Modified
If anyone is interested in seeing scenic places and landscape, Europe is not the second or third choice. Australia, New Zealand, the South America and even Asia 'are' comparable and comes to mind; Obudu is a deep, and same with Amazon, (which similarly has grassland and mountains) so you can compare...that is the idea behind this remark. Really interesting that I have been referred to as having inferiority complex for such a simple assertion, question and clarification.
